* Keep the hi-hat the notated style until notated otherwise. ** The second hi-hat is normally kept loose, so the style notations are typically not necessary. *** The bell of other cymbals will also be notated with a diamond notehead. **** On the rare occasion this is necessary, other indications will be made to make this clearer. ***** For reference, the average three-tom setup would use the high and mid rack toms and the high floor tom. Rototoms and timbalitos are rarely used except in the largest drum sets. - All ghost notes are notated as smaller versions of the above noteheads. - In most cases, I only notate the 2nd (bolded) crashes when there is a clear distinction heard on the recording, especially if I'm familiar with the drummer's setup. Also, assume the bolded x represents crashing the first ride, unless it is stated that the drummer uses two rides (a rare occurrence).
