Validating the “Battery Lock” claim The battery lock issue happens with the weaker battery which has less immunity to the radio signal at the low frequency. The way to reproduce this failure in the phone level is also used as the customer claim validation method in the CS center to confirm the return of “Phone Can’t Power On” or “Phone Turns off Automatically” is caused by the “Battery Lock” issue. 1) Test Set-up up We use the “Self Internal Radio Signal Interference” test to validate the battery lock issue. By utilizing the embedded “Engineering Test” mode in the phone software to request the

phone unit to transmit the maximum power at the requested radio band and frequency, frequenc we could reproduce the failure in the phone equipped with weaker battery. When phone is transmitting the maximum power and stays on the table, once the battery lock mechanism is triggered, phone will shut down in a sudden automatically.

2) Test Procedure

Step 1 – Enter in “Engineering Mode”

Switch on the phone, and input the combination key *#*#3646633#*#* (is equivalent to *#*#ENGMODE#*#*) on the dial pad to get into the “Engineer Mode” embedded in the phone software. Note: test could be done without the t SIM card.

Step 2 – Select “RF De-sense De Test”

When entering into the Engineer Mode, select the option “RF De-sense De Test”

Step 3 – Select “TX Test” In the “RF De--sense Test”, select the “TX Test”, and “LTE” telephony technology to trigger the phone self internal radio signal transmittance by adjusting the requested test parameters. You will be forced to get into “Flight Mode”. Press “OK”.

Step 4 – Set up the test parameters In the “TX Test” set-up set menu, adjust the requested test parameters and corresponding values for “Band”, “UL Bandwidth”, “VBR Length”, and “Power Level (dBm)” in accordance to the product variant setting listed in the table below

Step 5 – Press “Start” to transmit the radio signal Once the parameters are accurately set up, press the “START” button on the screen to get phone unit start to transmitting the requested radio signal at the requested frequency and power level.

Note: if you do the test with SIM card, you would be requested to “Reboot modem”. Press “Reboot”

Please ensure that the phone radio starts successfully. Once the modem is activated successfully, the success message “START Command Succeeded” will pop-up pop on the screen.

Step 6 – Check the “Battery Lock” When phone is transmitting the signal, put thee phone on the table. Monitoring the screen status whether or not it keeps showing up for 2 minutes (test time is 2 minutes, you could first set the phone sleep after 2 minutes in activity). activity If Battery Lock issue happens, phone will shut down immediately and a screen becomes black. Long press the “Power Key” to verify whether phone is really off. If phone succeeds the test, the screen will keep still on during the test. test Note: when putting the phone on the table, please avoid putting any metal material around the phone within 50cm, which means the phone need 50cm keeping-out area without any object containing metal

around/above the table (such as PC, laptop, instrument, etc.), etc.) desk top surface also should not be metal but table legs can be metal. The metal material will distort the test result. And to restart the phone after battery lock issue, a USB cable with wall charger needs to be connected to the phone.
