Developing Leadership with a Human Face At XIMB, we believe in humane approach to work and management with a deep sense of social and ethical responsibility. As a part of the program, PGDM Students at XIMB partner the upliftment of the underprivileged, and in doing so, impart fresh insights to society while gaining valuable insight about society itself. From the very start of the course, in the first term itself, students are involved in a very unique exercise – the execution of a socially relevant project as part of learning Organizational Behaviour. Working as teams, students seek out and work on opportunities for sustainable social development and solving social problems. In the process, groups and individuals learn to work together as a self directed team and gain exposure to the other side of life which will give them the human perspective as leaders of tomorrow.
The Human Face
The spectrum of projects undertaken by the various teams displays the diversity of the XIMB student community.
Empowering the Vision and Hearing Impaired XIMB students collaborated with the Orissa Association of the Blind (OAB) and converted a large amount of learning material to Braille. Additionally, learning equipment was also provided to improve their learning. Other supplies & Recreational Facilities were also given and setup. All this was rounded off with a Cultural even to celebrate it. Students had also worked with the Nursery school for the deaf at palashpalli to enhance and augment infrastructure by constructing lavatories and providing lighting
XIMB Students reach out to underprivileged school children—IBNLive.com Marketing platform for chocolates made by differently abled children. Taking the empowerment of the differently abled one step further, one project focused on creating greater visibility, and a sustainable income source for the welfare of the students of the Open Learning Systems through branding and marketing chocolates made by these children. The chocolates, branded ‘ChocOLS’ have been a great success among corporate clients, and elsewhere. The income generated from sales has been used to improve the living conditions, development of their cognitive skills, and provision of medical equipment.

Spreading computer awareness & literacy among youth Two groups set upon providing computer infrastructure and training. Madhurmayee Adarsh Shiksha Niketan, where the children of prisoners are housed, was one such institute. Academic help was also provided. Additionally, at the Anand mission ashram, a Computer center was setup. This would benefit the 70+ kids taken care of by the ashram.
Health & H1N1 Awareness The projects were running when H1N1 advisories were in effect, due to isolated outbreaks. Despite this, students took the initiative to go out to those who most needed it, and provide health checkups, awareness sessions, free medicines and counselling on the same. XIMB students played an instrumental part in raising H1N1 awareness in various communities in Bhubaneswar.
Ximb Students Reach out to orphans—Times of India Tree Planting Drive XIMB students were able to achieve widespread participation in its tree planting drive in collaboration with the bakul foundation leading to planting of saplings on a wide scale. This was done by motivating School students, as well as spreading the goodwill to the general public by increasing awareness, but giving away saplings as gifts (around 1000 were given away) and over 60 planted.
Charitable act lights up lives of deprived—The Telegraph Continued commitment to education & community development Over half of the effort covered learning institutions, ranging from city schools to alternative schools to institutes for differently abled, helping them in terms of improved infrastructure, educational supplies, sports and cultural events and medical camps. Apart from educational institutions, XIMB students also reached out to children directly in slums, mission homes, orphanages & community centres. A tangible difference was made in the lives of these children by the sheer variety of fun and celebrations they conducted – movie days, talent contests, Independence Day celebrations, painting sessions, awards, trips, quizzes etc. More often than not, they also bought the other stakeholders – the staff, the parents and society at large also into the picture. Infrastructure was also taken care of with the establishment, development & renovation of various facilities from learning centres, sports & recreation rooms, to toilets & bathrooms ensuring that all their needs were taken care of. The various workshops and sessions on vocational training, awareness & counselling contribute to nurturing sustainable social growth from within. By engaging in this effort for macro change on a micro scale, XIMB students take their first steps at embodying the change they want to see in this world.

Bhubaneswar Bhubaneswar, the ‘Temple Metropolis of India’ was once the capital of an ancient kingdom ruled by the Chedi dynasty. Today this bustling centre for commerce and religious activity is Orissa’s modern capital. The modern city of Bhubaneswar was designed by the German architect Otto Königsberger. In fact, the ‘new’ Bhubaneswar with its contemporary architecture and extensive infrastructure perfectly complements its historic surroundings. It epitomizes the fine balance of preserving tradition and encouraging change. It is well planned and is among the cleanest cities of modern India. Currently, the city is witnessing rapid industrial growth and is on the radar of some of the nation’s top corporate houses. It is an emerging IT hub and one of the fastest developing cities of India in recent years. Leading IT organisations like Infosys, TCS and Mahindra Satyam have set up their offices here. This confluence of the city’s old world charm and vibrant economy provides an ideal setting for XIMB.
