Rationale: This written task is about the book Pride and Prejudice, written by the author Jane Austen. This is linked to the Part one of the course, it consists of a letter written by Lydia directed to Elizabeth, in which the main topic is their personal discussion about Mr. Wickham’s attraction towards Elizabeth. This task is exploring the context between the end of the 18 th century and he begging of the 19th century, a time in which there were still monarchies and in which the social and economic status were all that mattered for the families in the middle and upper class in England. It also shows the Victorian era with their manners and their moral values. The nature of this task emerged from my personal opinion in which I consider that it is important to show that someone from the Bennet family is not okay with the main character’s behavior, so that someone from the familiar nucleus gets the position of judging Elizabeth Bennet. Dear Elizabeth, As your sister, it is my duty to be honest and express my heart feelings. I want you to know how disappointed I am towards many of your attitudes. I thought you were the perfect example of how a woman should manage her reputation, especially her manners, but I think my expectative was too high. In fact thinking about you as one of the oldest sister in our family, I was 3

hoping you were enough mature to understand the crisis our family is suffering and how the modest income from our father, Mr. Bennet wants us to get married with a good man with a good economical an social status so we can have a great life in the future, but it won’t help if you keep Mr. Wickham away from me. You were teach to practice courtship to accomplish the objective of marrying a upper class man, you should have clear that this is the only objective you have in life as a human, for the first time stop being selfish and be conscious that the fact of marrying

someone like Darcy will make our family more popular and will give us enough reputation to start ascending in the social class level. Since I was a little girl I remember one of your bigger defects, your pride. You were always affected by you dignity and I think you never learn how to forgive and be honest with the people that are around you. And that is what Mr. Darcy is paying, the fact that you are always in doubt with the love you are really feeling and the worst thing is that you play with people’s heart and you don’t care. I will never forgive the

fact that my husband George Wickham was a victim of your charms, and it is hard to say it but I know he loves you more than he loves me. Lizzy, just recall the good relationship we used to have when we were little, remember how we use to have fun playing just the two of us when you were not being so prideful and all the rest of the family where fighting. This is all about loyalty, if we both can get what we want about the status this family needs, we will be happy with the man we love and most important our parents will be proud of the ladies they

raised up. Well… I know that me running away from Pemberly with Mr. Wickham isn’t the best way of getting married and getting to know a man from the army with someone but eventually they will understand that he is the right man for me, just like Mr. Darcy is the one for you. I just hope that we will get over this soon, but I need you to put from your part and at least apologize to me about this terrible situation we are going through. Try to put yourself in this situation I am going through, just imagine that the man you love is not fully interest in you. I know that together as

sisters we can get over this. So please if you marry Mr. Darcy, Mr. Wickham will understand that you are having the life you always wanted with someone wealthy by your side. Anyway Elizabeth, I am tired of people talking behind your backs about your reputation, you as one the oldest sister know that the image of our family is one of the most important thing for our family just like for the society we live in. The upper class from with Mr. Darcy belongs, is very judgmental about this type of behaviors and sincerely as your sister I do not want people

judging you for an attitude that you can change completely and turn things positive. Also take in account that Mr. Darcy is leaving the prejudice away to be with you, I mean, he changed his bad attitudes just to be with you, so I think that you should do the same thing and try to behave with a little more class, just like we were raised up. I would like us to meet and talk this personally, it is better so I can also listen to your opinion about what I am saying, when I arrive with Mr. Wickham we can have tea and discuss about us and get along, I expect the best attitude from you, and I also

apologize if I got a little bit rude at the beginning of this letter, just remember that the family goes first so please I am just asking you to respect my relationship with Mr. Wickham and work our differences and be the sisters we used to be when no man got in between us. Greetings, Your sister, Lydia Bennet
