EQUIPMENTS REQUIRED :
This standard specify the method for spot test of Nickel in ferrous alloy metal. This test specify the qualitative method for identifying metals and alloys in rapid way.
3.1Filter paper

3.2 Localize grinding for spot test.
3.3 Test solution no.1 & no.2
TEST PIECE : 4.1 The test specimen is rolled bar , ingot or may be forged piece. Test location must be grind.

TEST SOLUTION :
Test solution no. 1 :
100 ml HNO3,Conc. (Nitric Acid) + 125 ml of H2O (DM Water) + 25 ml of H3PO4 (Orthophosphoric Acid)
Test solution no.2 :
a) Dissolve 10g. of ammonium acetate in 30 ml. of ammonium hydroxide. b) Dissolve 1g. f dimethylglyoxime powder in 30ml. Hot C2H5OH, cool and add 60 ml. Glacial acetic acid. Mix both the solution (a) & (b).

PROCEDURE :
5.1 Select area in sample for Ni-spot test
5.2 Pouring of solution no.1 in in that area.
5.3 Place the filter paper in react area.
5.4 Adding of solution no. 2 on filter paper which shows pink colour development due to presence of Nickel.
6 EVALUATION :
6.1 The pink colour produce conforms the presence of Nickel 6.2 Percentage of Nickel is high as the intensity of colour increases. 6.3 6.4
Brown colour should indicate the less afinity of chemicals, hence signify the absence of Nickel. If the results are not conclusive against known sample of Nickel content, the test solution to be freshly prepared.
