Quality Assurance and Ordering Information Quality Assurance
National Oilwell’s commitment to quality goes beyond its accreditations and certifications. In an effort to provide wellhead pressure control equipment that exceeds industry standards, National Oilwell now supplies certification data books standard with all new assemblies sold. The certification data books provide the user and well owners with the assurance that the equipment they are using is designed and manufactured according to stringent industry standards. The certification data book provides complete traceability of a tool from the original mill heat number to the final pressure test, and is traceable by a unique indentification number stamped on each part of an assembly. Documents included in the data book are: • Documentation Index • Copy of ISO 9001 Certification • Certificate of Compliance which lists all applicable codes and standards • Traceability Log which lists all critical components by part number along with identification traceability number • Hydrostatic/Functional Test Certificate with test recorder chart • Drawing with Parts List In addition to the standard certification data books provided, Bowen Quality Assurance Department will provide, upon request, the following records. These records are retained for a period of five (5) years: • Material Test Report • Heat Treat Certification • Mechanical Test Report • Inspection Certificate — dimensional, hardness, visual • Magnetic Particle Examination • Radiograph Inspection of Welds • Weld Procedure Qualifications (if applicable) • 100% Dimensional Inspection • Quality Plans For customers operating in the North Sea area, or requiring third party verification, Bowen is fully accredited to ISO 9001 by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) to provide equipment certified to the British specification DOE SI 289 and Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) as well as compliance to API requirements.

Features
Bowen Hydraulic BOPs are hydraulically actuated devices designed to seal around wireline, slickline, or coiled tubing. Bowen equips all Hydraulic BOPs with manually operated stems to allow closing in the event of a hydraulic failure, or to lock the rams closed when they are left closed for extended periods. These preventers are equipped standard with equalizer valve assemblies. A bleedoff valve is optional.

Bowen Manual Tool Traps are designed to prevent wireline tools from falling downhole in the event the wireline is inadvertently pulled out of the cable head. Bowen Manual Tool Traps are tough, dependable, and easy to operate and maintain. They are rated up to 5,000 psi working pressure and are available from 2" to 61⁄2" I.D. The Stop Dog and weighted Handle ensure that the Tool Trap stays in the closed or catch position. The handle also provides a convenient visual indication of the stop dog’s position. Features

The Bowen Hydraulic Tool Trap is a safety device installed at the bottom of the lubricator or wellhead setup, normally just above the BOP. It prevents the loss of wire tool strings downhole if the wireline is stripped from the rope socket. A tool stop with an opening larger than the wireline, but smaller than the subsurface tool, prevents the tool from passing through. Features

The Bowen Tool Catcher is designed to catch the fishing neck of the tool string if the wireline is inadvertently parted. The catcher assembly is fail-safe while in the catch position. Hydraulic pressure is only needed to release the fishing neck. Bowen’s unique design utilizes four spring-loaded pawls to catch the fishing neck. This proven design will engage fishing neck sizes ranging from 1" thru 13⁄4" O.D. without changing parts. The Bowen Tool Catcher is the most compact, lightest designed tool catcher currently on the market. The Tool Catcher is available in two models: a union upper connection by union bottom connection design and a flow tube integral ball check valve upper connection by union bottom connection design. The integration of the tool catcher and ball check valve significantly reduces the overall height. The customer will also realize a price reduction by purchasing the integrated assembly as opposed to purchasing two separate assemblies. Features

Bowen Series II Safety Ball Check Valves Bowen Safety Ball Check Valve
The Bowen Safety Ball Check Valve is one of many redesigned tools developed and manufactured by Bowen for wireline applications. These check valves are automatic pressure shutoff valves designed for use with wireline lubricators. The check valve is located near the upper end of the lubricator, just below the pack-off assembly. If the wireline is broken and blown out, or accidentally pulled from the lubricator, the well pressure will be safely shut in by the Safety Ball Check Valve. The redesigned Safety Ball Check Valve is available with specified union connections compatible with either standard or H2S service union assemblies. Features

Bowen Grease Injection Control Heads
In wireline operations where high pressure exists, reduction of wellhead pressure applied to the pack-off rubbers is essential to reduce the friction on the wireline to a minimum, and to effect a complete seal. Maintaining a complete seal is of prime importance where the operation being performed will not tolerate the loss of fluid, or where loss of fluid and gases would present a major hazard, such as on offshore rigs or near populated areas. The Bowen Grease Injection Control Head was specifically designed to perform this wireline sealing function in the most efficient and economical manner available. It will maintain a complete seal, with zero loss of fluid or spray (a must when working with high pressure and H2S).

Bowen Series II Grease Injection Control Heads
The Bowen Grease Injection Control Heads are available with single pack-off and dual pack-offs, and most are available with top connections for adding a Bowen Line Wiper. The use of additional pack-offs or line wipers are for conditions that require added sealing or cable cleaning. The Bowen Grease Injection Control Heads are supplied with a flow tube pin connection down for rigging up to various types and sizes of connections. For well pressures from 5,000 psi to 10,000 psi, three flow tubes are generally used. For pressures higher than 10,000 psi, four or more tubes are used. Additional flow tubes can be added if well or operating conditions demand it. Specify type of lower connection and measured line size to assure proper flow tube fit.
All grease injection control heads are rated for H2S. Lower connection used will dictate service.

Bowen Line Wipers are designed to wipe wirelines clean and to prevent loss of well fluids as these wirelines are removed from oil wells. Line Wipers are also used (in low pressure wells) to seal or “pack-off” around stranded cable. In this application, the flow of fluids and gases is minimized. Bowen Measuring Line Stuffing Box
Bowen Measuring Line Stuffing Boxes are designed to pack-off solid wireline of all sizes ranging from 0.062" through 0.108" line. Pack-off for 0.125" line is also available. If the line is inadvertently broken or the tools are stripped off while working under pressure, the Bowen Stuffing Boxes utilize a blowout plug to automatically shut-in well pressure. Bowen Measuring Line Stuffing Boxes are available in 5,000 psi to 15,000 psi working pressure, and for use in H2S or standard service. An EUE pin connection or integral Bowen Pin Section (with retainer nut on bottom) is also available. A lightweight aluminum Sheave Bracket Assembly to be used in conjunction with the stuffing box is available in 7", 10", or 14" sizes. Hydraulic Hand Pump Assemblies and optional high temperature packing are also available.

Bowen SS (Severe Service) Series Lightweight Riser
The Bowen SS Series Lightweight Riser is the result of National Oilwell’s commitment to product improvement. The SS Series Lightweight Riser is made from corrosion resistant material and is rated at 10,000 psi working pressure.
PUMP-IN SUBS
A 66% reduction of weight makes the SS Riser easier to maneuver and handle. The interface between the union and threaded riser tube employs a proprietary dual seal arrangement. The primary seal is metal-to-metal, with a secondary backup o-ring seal. All this is done without any compromise to structural integrity. Well site integrity is enhanced when the SS Series equipment is used. The Bowen SS Riser is readily available in 3" and 41⁄16" sizes and is rated at 10,000 psi working pressure. Features

The Bowen Chemical/Inhibitor Injection Sub is designed for injecting cable corrosion inhibitor or anti-icing agents directly onto the wireline as it enters or exits the lubricator string during wireline service operations. Utilizing union connections, the Injection Sub is installed directly below the grease control head or slickline stuffing box. The supply system is connected to the side inlet port where inhibitor or anti-icing agents can be injected as needed. Internal felt wipers aid in coating the wireline with injection fluids and limit the amount of fluids lost in the well bore.

Blanking Plugs and Blanking Caps are available for use on all Bowen Unions and on an assortment of other types of connections. Blanking Plugs and Blanking Caps are used as Test Fixtures when pressure testing equipment. They are also used as night caps for temporarily shutting in well pressure. Bowen Sub Sea Blowout Preventers
Bowen Sub Sea Blowout Preventers are constructed from special alloy steel and are specially designed to seal off or shear coiled tubing and wireline during sub sea well servicing operations. Bowen Sub Sea Blowout Preventers are low profile, hydraulically actuated units that are available with single or dual bore. The hydraulic actuator assemblies utilize an automatic locking device that locks the rams in the closed position and does not require the use of sequencing valves, thus reducing size and cost. Bowen Sub Sea Blowout Preventers are available in working pressures from 5,000 psi to 15,000 psi.

Snubbing Blowout Preventer
National Oilwell manufactures Bowen Snubbing and Universal Blowout Preventers that are designed to seal off tubing strings during well servicing operations which require snubbing pipe into or out of a well under pressure. Both of these rugged blowout preventers feature high pressure ratings in a compact size. The popular snubbing blowout preventers are completely hydraulic and are designed for fast ram seal removal and replacement. Both blowout preventers are rated for H2S service and are available with internal diameters that range from 29⁄16" to 71⁄16". Working pressures range from 10,000 psi to 20,000 psi.

endured years of actual field testing and has been proven to cause less wear to the line. Reduced line friction and increased bend radius of the sheave wheel also contribute to less wear on the line.
In a continuing effort to provide state of the art products, National Oilwell is pleased to offer a full line of Composite Rigging Sheaves and accessories for wireline operations. These Sheaves are quickly proving to be the industry standard. Design criteria for the Composite Rigging Sheaves includes: • Lightweight: The Composite Sheaves are up to 60 percent lighter than conventional sheaves.
• Durability and Strength: Designed to withstand the abuses of the rig site, the sheaves have high impact poly covers with cast 17-4 PH stainless steel components. Pull tests, traceability, mag particle inspection and X-ray inspection are standard procedures with each sheave.
• Safety: The Composite Sheaves were designed with personal safety in mind. A unique protective cover and guide prevent hands and clothing from becoming entangled. These Sheaves are much less likely to cause injury than other designs.
National Oilwell offers full support of this product line. This support includes accessories and replacement parts. Servicing of these composite rigging sheaves is also available at National Oilwell districts around the world.

ational Oilwell offers a wide range of Bowen Grease Injection and Hydraulic Control Systems for the wireline industry. From very basic units to the most sophisticated modular type package used in the North Sea, these units are considerably varied in design to meet the multiplicity of operating conditions, well pressure, power sources and packaging configurations required by the industry. National Oilwell’s basic line of Bowen Grease Injection Systems includes rugged and dependable lower cost units consisting of a power supply, grease pump, grease reservoir and control panel all mounted on a durable skid unit. These units are available in 5,000 psi, 10,000 psi and 15,000 psi working pressures, depending on the required output pressure. Either airdriven or hydraulically-driven grease injection pumps are available on these units. National Oilwell also manufactures a complete line of state of the art Modular Grease Injection Systems and Hydraulic Control Modules. This compact air operated control module is rated for up to 15,000 psi working pressure. It provides convenient remote hydraulic operation of pressure control equipment from a central control panel. Bowen Hydraulic Wireline Jars employ a patented hydraulic system similar to that used in the well known Bowen Hydraulic Rotary Jar. This system permits the operator to closely control the force of the blow over a wide range. from a light blow to one of maximum impact. These jars may be run on any measuring line or stranded wire line which does not require electrical continuity below the jar. They are particularly valuable in fishing, swabbing and permanent well completion operations The Bowen Hydraulic Wireline Jar consists essentially of a sliding mandrel within a hydraulic chamber. In the closed position, an integral piston on the lower end of the mandrel rests in the middle body cylinder. When strain is taken on the line, the top sub and mandrel are pulled upward, while the piston is impeded in its upward movement by hydraulic fluid. This fluid is restricted in it flow from above the piston by the narrow passage between the piston and the cylinder wall. Fluid flow is retarded, thereby delaying completion of the jarring stroke until sufficient strain has been taken on the line to strike a blow of required impact value. When the piston passes from the cylinder into the enlarged internal portion, fluid resistance ceases. The top sub and the mandrel then travel upward with great acceleration until the top of the piston strikes the middle body insert, transmitting the jarring force. The jar is closed after the stroke by slacking off on the line. A check valve in the piston allows free passage of fluid, permitting the jar to close freely. The 11/8", 11/4" and 11/2" O.D. jars have a two-piece middle body insert and bushing combination, designed to simplify replacement of the high pressure seal assembly. Bowen Knuckle Joints, when made up in a string of wireline tools, provide strong flexible joints to permit angular movement on the string in a crooked hole. The Bowen Knuckle Joint consists of only two parts — a pin section is formed around the ball of the box section to form an integral unit. If desired, a hole can be drilled lengthwise in the knuckle joint to permit passage of conductors.

Bowen Knuckle Jars combine the functions of a knuckle joint and a short tubular jar. The socket of the pin section is formed around the box section to form an integral unit. Since the ball slides freely in the cylindrical recess, the tool when in the open position will pivot to permit angular movement of the string. Bowen Single-Strand Rope Sockets are designed for use with measuring lines having diameters of .062" to .092". They can also be used on stranded lines with diameters up to 3/16". Specify line size when ordering. The Single-Strand Rope Socket consists essentially of a body and a grooved bronze plug. The line is threaded through the body and wrapped around the plug in the grove provided. The plug is then pulled tightly up into the body taper. The pressure of the pin of the tool which is connected below the socket aids in wedging the plug in the body, while strain on the line keeps the plug tightly wedged in the body, eliminating the possibility of the line slipping out. Bowen Slip-Type Rope Socket — Overload Release Type
Bowen Slip-Type Rope Sockets are designed for use with small stranded lines, through 3/8" diameter. They may be used with conductor lines, provided that electrical continuity below the rope socket is not required. This rope socket features simplicity of construction and easy assembly. It consists of a body, sub, carriage, slips and set screw. The slips are designed to cause the line to break under severe loading at a specific percentage of the full line tensile strength. Five breaking strength slips are available for 50%, 60%, 70%, 80% and 90% of line strength. The desired percent must be specified when the slips or assembly are ordered. If during the running tools become stuck, the operator is assured that the line will break at the rope socket rather than up-hole, allowing retrieval of the wireline. WARNING: The rope socket is susceptible to damage from wrench marks, corrosion. etc. which will substantially reduce its strength. Pipe wrenches should not exceed 18" and should be used only on the heavy wall portions of the rope socket body. Magnetic particle inspection is recommended on a regular basis.

Bowen Sinker Bars
Bowen Sinker Bars are used with wireline tools to provide additional weight to a string of wireline tools. They are especially useful when used in conjunction with wireline hydraulic jars. By adding weight to the string, the speed of the closing operation is increased, and the jar ring blow is intensified. Bowen Sinker Bars are available in a range of sizes, lengths. and weights, with or without fishing necks, to suit any wireline operation. Wireline Retriever
Bowen Tubular Jars can be used as an up or down jar. It is particularly useful in permanent well completions, to pull both up or down as a way to aid in pulling, fishing, or gas lift operations. To jar down, the Bowen Tubular Jar is actuated either manually or by the use of a reel. It is available with either a 20" or 30" stroke.
