Welltec® at a Glance We thrive on innovative ideas and we are dedicated to move beyond the conventional

6

The backbone of Welltec’s progressive growth has been the design, manufacturing and development of the patented Well Tractor® - a downhole well bore intervention tool used for transporting diagnostic and maintenance equipment inside highly deviated and horizontal oil and gas wells. Through years of experience, gained since the initial commercial introduction in 1996, Welltec® has identified the need for clean, unique solutions to address the ongoing challenges of tomorrow’s intervention market. Innovative thinking combined with professionalism and a strong focus on quality has established Welltec® as a world leader in the development of cost-effective and value-creating solutions for vertical, horizontal and deviated wells. Today, Welltec® is regarded as the leading provider of robotic solutions worldwide, and we have amassed an impressive operating track record to clearly identify ourselves as the market leader.

Our only constant is change Changing situations require innovative responses

7

The Well Tractor® Story In 1987, the first ideas for a conveyance device

for horizontal well intervention were conceived

These original ideas led to the foundation of Welltec® in 1994. Throughout March 1996, the first commercial Well Tractor® field trials were carried out successfully in Norway. From there on, the Well Tractor® technology has changed the way operators plan and drill their wells. Our technology facilitated a step change in the technique of deploying logging tools into horizontal and highly deviated wells without the use of drill pipe or coiled tubing.

Lately, our areas of expertise have expanded from conveyance to also include well optimization. For instance, we have developed a series of mechanical services to supplement our tractor services, and this series will expand to include new tools. We will continue to revolutionize the well intervention technology to meet the demands of our clients and secure that we are constantly in a league of our own.

From the very beginning, Welltec® has focused on keeping the time frame from development and design of an idea to the final commercial application as short as possible, while still meeting the requirements of the Welltec® QHSE Management System. Welltec® has therefore established its own R&D, manufacturing, assembly, testing and control facilities.

Welltec® currently has +450 employees who support the operational activities. Support bases are located in Angola, Azerbaijan, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Congo, Denmark, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Russia, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., U.K., U.S., Venezuela and Vietnam. With the rapidly increasing demand for Welltec® services, we will expand our activities with new bases in the future.

At the well site, Welltec® carries out Well Tractor® operations with specialized field engineers. Each tool is preconfigured in advance by our team of experienced engineers to suit the necessary application and other company interfaces, as required.

8

Welltec’s technology has revolutionized the oil and gas industry

Pre-job Planning Based on years of experience, we utilize our own

WellSimTM is a program developed especially for analyzing and planning Well Tractor® operations. It is an essential tool when confirming the technical feasibility of the operation. WellSimTM predicts at what depth the Well Tractor® needs to be started and what pull is required to get to any given depth in a well. The pick-up weight is calculated along with a recommended weak point. The directional properties of the well, inclination, azimuth and dog legs, are taken into account along with restrictions and casing/hole conditions, friction, when calculating the toolstring and cable drag.

Gathering Logging Data While Driving Forwards We deliver what our clients want

– not what we think they need

Gathering data while driving forwards with a downhole conveyance device has always been a desire among petroleum engineers. In our efforts for continual improvement, we have gained the ability to gather logging data on the downwards production logging pass, and we have implemented this concept with the launch of the DC powered wireline Well Tractor®.

Welltec® has also refined the ability to transfer mud pulse telemetry through subsurface drilling assemblies when using the Coiled Tubing Well Tractor® as a constant weight on bit mechanism. We continue to push the boundaries of technology forward to add value to our customers’ activities.

25

Well Tractor® Services The development of deviated and horizontal wells has been limited by the available intervention methods. Drill pipe, snubbing and coiled tubing have been the traditional methods of intervention, but based upon the large quantities of equipment needed to facilitate these types of operations, they are sometimes cancelled before they start. Extending the reach of the traditional wireline is one of the most cost-saving and value-creating technologies in the well intervention industry applied in the last decade. This has enabled operators to carry out cost-efficient interventions, which have reduced AFE* costs and enabled an increase in oil and gas production. *

26

AFE - “Authority For Expenditure”

The original and revolutionary Well Tractor® technology has been developed and perfected by Welltec®. This technology has become the backbone of our company’s rapid rate of success and expansion. It is designed to complement the applications of both wireline and coiled tubing interventions. The rapid rate of utilization of our technology across the globe is a clear indicator of its ability to reduce costs and enhance safety within the operations. The Coiled Tubing Well Tractor® enables a smaller diameter of coiled tubing to be drawn further out into the well bore, beyond the point where coiled tubing buckles and stops. The introduction of composite coiled tubing technology, in conjunction with the Coiled Tubing Well Tractor®, opens up a whole new intervention technique. By combining the two, greater well depths can be achieved.

Wireline Well Tractor® The wireline Well Tractor® is designed to convey any conventional wireline toolstring used in the well bore, while pulling the wire-line behind it. The cable and tool friction are therefore compensated and allow the wireline string to be driven forward.

Coiled Tubing Well Tractor® The Coiled Tubing Well Tractor® is driven by the fluid pumped down through the coil. This powers the Coiled Tubing Well Tractor®, which pulls the coil downhole and pushes the toolstring ahead of it. The buckling effect will be reduced due to the pull at the end of the coil, resulting in extending the reach of the coiled tubing or the option to use a smaller coiled tubing.

27

Run in Hole Procedures

After the Well Tractor® has been rigged up over the well at the end of the electric wireline, it descends into the hole in a controlled manner. Due to gravity, it falls freely under the control of the wireline until the deviation of the well reaches a point where friction on the toolstring and cable prevents the string from progressing further.

28

The Well Tractor® is activated and the wheels come out of the tool body. The action of initiating the tool centralizes it in the well bore. Once the wheels establish contact with the casing, the Well Tractor® starts to move forward and deploys the logging tools into the horizontal well bore, taking the string beyond the original hang up point.

Once the toolstring reaches its objective depth, the Well Tractor® is powered down. It now resembles a passive sinker bar included within the toolstring so the wireline toolstring can be pulled out of the well bore.

Why Use a Wireline Well Tractor®? Introduction of intelligent wells

The wireline Well Tractor® allows logging tools to reach the end of the drilled horizontal or highly deviated well. It achieves this without the need for drill pipe or coiled tubing conveyance methods. It is a tethered, wireline deployed conveyance device, which pushes wireline toolstrings out to the end of the well bore. With the introduction of intelligent wells onto the market, the need for developing a contingency intervention plan has increased. The Well Tractor® technology is ideally suited to cover this new market with the advent of Welltec’s mechanical services. Prior to the introduction of the Well Tractor®, methods like drill pipe and coiled tubing were deemed the only feasible ways to access horizontal and highly deviated well bores. These methods require the mobilization of large quantities of heavy equipment and, subsequently, large numbers of personnel. This has a knock-on effect of increased operational risks along with increased time required to rig up and down the respective heavy equipment.

30

Reduction of operational hazards and risks

The introduction of the revolutionary Well Tractor® has catalyzed a radical increase in the application of wireline interventions in horizontal wells. This increase in wireline interventions has been a major influencing factor in the reduction of costs for intervention programs and also a major contributing factor in the reduction of operational hazards and risks. Furthermore, the safety of both people and equipment is enhanced when applying Well Tractor® technology. The wireline Well Tractor® also embraces and perpetuates the mitigation of risks associated with environmental impact. It has proven itself to be a key change agent in the quest towards establishing zero emissions and discharges. The key reason for the increased utilization of Well Tractor® technology has been the demonstration of a clear reduction in operating costs for the oil companies. These cost savings have been achieved due to increases in operational efficiency and well optimizations.

31

The Wireline Well Tractor® The electric wireline Well Tractor® is currently available in three sizes: 2 1/8, 3 1/8 and 4 1/2 inch outside diameter. They are optimized for pulling force and speed in conjunction with the downhole completion string. To provide good communication with the winch driver, the surface control panels are normally positioned inside the wireline unit. They power and control the progress of the Well Tractor® when it is inside the well. Diagnostic data is also relayed back to the surface. The Well Tractor® functions with an electric over hydraulic power relationship. The control, communications and power are electric, while the remaining parts and functions are hydraulic, allowing the use of a modular structure for the drive sections. This makes it possible to change the Well Tractor’s traction by reducing or increasing the number of wheels needed to drive the Well Tractor®, without affecting the efficiency. The wheels are grouped into sections of

four wheels per section. To increase the pull force of the Well Tractor®, it is possible to add extra drive sections. As a result of changing the number of drive sections, speed can also be adjusted. The wheels in each section are in line and pumped out with 180 degree phasing, incorporating two wheels on each side of the section. To ensure 360 degree wheel coverage inside the well bore or open hole, each drive section is subsequently phased 90 degrees to the previous drive section when assembled. When the Well Tractor® is initially powered up, the wheels in each drive section are hydraulically deployed out of the tool body. The wheels start to rotate automatically once they emerge from the body of the Well Tractor®. Each wheel contains its own independent hydraulic motor, which facilitates the rotation of the wheels and the forward motion of the Well Tractor®.

Fail-Safe Features The passive and immediate fail-safe features prevent the Well Tractor® from getting stuck in the well bore with the arms and wheels extended. The arms and wheels will retract automatically when the tool is powered down or disconnected, providing a flush outside diameter tool.

Why Use a Coiled Tubing Well Tractor®? Do you need extra pull force for your coiled tubing interventions in

In tortuous or extended reach wells, coiled tubing can buckle and the progress inside the well bore is halted. As a result, the forward motion of the coiled tubing stops while running in the hole. This is based on excessive amounts of friction. The relationship between the outside diameter of the coil and the internal diameter of the casing can also result in buckling of the coiled tubing. These common effects in extended reach wells limit the lateral reach capability of the coiled tubing and prevent the coil from reaching the toe of the well. The fluid driven Coiled Tubing (CT) Well Tractor® extends the lateral reach capability of coiled tubing in horizontal and deviated wells. The CT Well Tractor® pulls the coiled tubing into the well bore, overcoming the tendency of the coil to buckle and lock up. This allows

40

for the utilization of smaller diameter coil with less wall thickness or composite coiled tubing, thereby reducing the reel weight and removing the problems associated with crane lifting limitations. The use of the CT Well Tractor® also removes the need for “stiffening” the coiled tubing with pipe stiffeners. As a result, the life span of the coiled tubing is increased. Economic savings can be derived by using smaller quantities of chemical friction reducers when using the CT Well Tractor®. For electrical operations on coiled tubing, it is possible to configure the CT Well Tractor® with a mono feed through, enabling real time logging, electrical setting of plugs, straddles and electrically detonated perforation carriers to be deployed on coil.

41

The Coiled Tubing Well Tractor®

The Coiled Tubing Well Tractor® is currently available in three sizes - 2 1/2 inch, 2 1/8 inch and 3 1/8 inch outside diameter. They are optimized for pulling force, speed, flow rate and pressure loss in conjunction with the completion string. The fluid pumped down through the coiled tubing powers the CT Well Tractor®. A turbine powered by the fluid drives the hydraulic system and moves the tool forward. The CT Well Tractor® functions with a hydraulic over hydraulic power relationship. The controls and power source are completely hydraulic, allowing the use of a modular structure for the drive sections. This makes it possible to change the CT Well Tractor’s traction by reducing or increasing the number of wheels needed to drive the tool, without affecting the efficiency. The wheels are grouped into sections of four wheels per section. To increase the pull force of the CT Well Tractor®, it is possible to add extra drive sections. Changing the number of drive sections allows for adjustment in speed.

42

The wheels in each section are in line and pumped out with 180 degree phasing, incorporating two wheels in each direction. To ensure 360 degree wheel coverage inside the well bore or open hole, each drive section is subsequently phased 90 degrees to the previous drive section when assembled. When the CT Well Tractor® is initially powered up, the wheels in each drive section are hydraulically deployed out of the tool body. The wheels start to rotate automatically once they emerge from the body. Each wheel contains its own independent hydraulic motor, which facilitates the rotation of the wheels and the forward motion of the CT Well Tractor®.

Fail-Safe Features The passive and immediate fail-safe features prevent the CT Well Tractor® from getting stuck in the well bore with the arms and wheels extended. The arms and wheels will retract automatically when the tool is powered down or disconnected, providing a flush outside diameter tool.

43

Coiled Tubing Well Tractor® P e r f o r m a n c e

The maximum pull achieved with the 318 Coiled Tubing Well Tractor® is 3,500 lbs, which doubles up to 7,000 lbs in tandem configuration. It is also possible to achieve up to 10,000 lbs pulling force when stacking up three Coiled Tubing Well Tractors for extreme environments. By adjusting the fluid turbine system, the same pulling forces can be achieved when pumping fluid at low pump rates. To increase the ability of the coiled tubing to travel further within the well bore, nitrogen can be used to create a neutrally buoyant state. A foam type mixture can be used for adjusting the density. By creating a neutrally buoyant state, the resistance to the CT Well Tractor® pulling the coil is reduced and the travel distance is subsequently increased. Experience has demonstrated that different mixtures have no influence on the pulling force.

Features of Coiled Tubing Technology • Ability to gather real time, downwards logging data on surface at the same time as driving inside the well bore. This can be achieved through mud telemetry or by deploying the CT Well Tractor® in “stiff wire” intelligent mode • Ability to double or triple the downhole power applied with the introduction of the tandem configuration CT Well Tractor® designed to access extreme extended reach well bores, along with extended wash outs in the open hole well bore

44

• Ability to reverse and drive backwards out of the hole depending on the well and operational profile

• Compatibility with wireless casing collar locator technology • Acid stimulation

• Ability to drive in open hole as well as in cased hole • Proven and verified with ballistic systems i.e. pressure pulse detonation systems

45

Run in Hole Procedures After the Coiled Tubing Well Tractor® has been rigged up over the well at the end of the coiled tubing, it descends into the hole in a controlled manner. The injector head controls the descent of the CT Well Tractor® inside the well bore. The injector head also assists in pushing the toolstring into the well bore to a certain extent. However, the effects of friction and buckling can prevent the string from reaching the toe of some extended reach wells. Once the toolstring can go no further, when feeding the coil with the injector head, tension is applied to the coil and the coil string is raised up the well. The CT Well Tractor® is activated by pumping fluid or nitrogen inside the coil. As a result, wheels come out of the tool body. The action of initiating the CT Well Tractor® centralizes it in the well bore. Once the wheels establish contact to the casing or open hole, the tool starts to move forward and pulls the coiled tubing further into the horizontal well bore, taking the string beyond the original hang up point. When the toolstring reaches its objective depth, the CT Well Tractor® is powered down. It now resembles a passive sinker bar included within the toolstring so the proposed coiled tubing operation can be completed and the string can be pulled out of the well bore.

46

Type of Jobs The CT Well Tractor® works with different types of drive fluids, including drilling muds i.e. water, brine, acidizing fluids, pure nitrogen, comingled nitrogen/water or drilling mud.

With many years of experience, we can perform almost any service on coiled tubing including: • Clean-outs

• Plug pulling

• Fishing operations and other mechanical downhole activities

• Bleach cleaning & acidization

• Stimulation and fracture activity

• Perforating

• Shifting sliding sleeves

• Side track drilling with coiled tubing - acting as a constant weight on bit

• Cement bond logging and other cased hole logging

• Milling operations

• Hydrate/paraffin plug removal

Tandem configurations can access extreme extended reach well bores along with extended washouts in open hole, enabling operators to reach the toe of the well

Mechanical Downhole Services Electric wireline tractor technology has expanded well beyond the initial scope of conveying logging tools into horizontal cased wells. Redefining the current use of electric wireline is seen as one of the more exciting areas to develop. At Welltec®, we are focusing on applying this technology and we are viewed by the industry as ground-breaking in the application of new technology. Our mechanical intervention services allow operators to perform the following electric wireline operations:

• Opening and closing zonal isolation valves • Manipulating sliding door valves • Setting straddle packers for water shut-offs • Setting and retrieving gas lift valves • Setting and retrieving mechanical plugs • Fishing electric line and slick line tools • Removing scale bridges • Removing debris fill • Removing sand bridges • Cleaning nipple seats prior to setting straddle packers • Cleaning sub surface safety valves

Well Stroker ® Designed to apply a focused force downhole, the Well Stroker® anchors itself against the tubing and applies a bi-directional force on the end of the electric wireline. This makes it possible to apply up to 16 tons of force, strategically located on the end of the electric wireline in the horizontal well bore. The benefits of providing the Well Stroker® is that it can provide high pushing and pulling forces down-hole where and when required in order to easily set and pull plugs, shifts sleeves and valves.

50

• Cement plug drilling • Removing Inconel and Superchrome isolation valves • Scale milling • Removing barium sulfate bridges in dry gas wells • Establishing flow paths through flapper and ball valves • Removing downhole barriers • Cast iron bridge plug milling • Composite bridge plug milling • Nipple profile milling • Removing downhole debris barriers

Well Key ® The Well Key® is operated in conjunction with the Well Stroker® and is designed to open and close multiple sliding sleeves in a single run. When the tool is run in the hole, the keys are retracted in the body of the tool. The tool is selective and can be activated at a required depth where the keys will expand and engage a nominated profile. The Well Tractor® conveys the toolstring to target depth where the Well Key® engages the nominated profile, and the Well Stroker® applies the necessary force to actuate the sliding sleeve.

Well Miller ®

Well Cleaner ®

Well Stroker ®

Well Key ®

Well Cleaner ® In essence, the Well Cleaner® can be described as a hydrostatic bailer system that is deployed on the end of the electric wireline. The selective tool can be used to remove sand and debris from the inside of the completion string or to remove debris that has built up on top of downhole isolation barriers. The Well Cleaner® is suited to complement the Well Miller® in scale milling operations. With the recent introduction of the Well Cleaner® PST, it is possible to recover up to 500 liters of sand per run.

Well Miller ® Representing a technological revolution, the Well Miller® has been designed to mill and drill a wide variety of downhole obstructions. Bit designs have been developed to pressure equalize isolation valves and plugs and regain flow paths through isolation valves. The Well Miller® complements the removal of downhole barriers by drilling on the end of electric wireline. Other milling features include milling of cement plugs, removal of scale bridges and nipple profile milling.

51

Why Use a Well Stroker®?

The different aspects of mechanical interventions such as gas lift valve retrieval/deployment, setting and retrieving mechanical plugs, manipulating sliding side door devices and opening zonal isolation valves have historically been in the domain of slickline and coiled tubing. By employing the Well Tractor® in conjunction with the Well Stroker®, operators are able to carry out any type of slickline operation in horizontal wells on electric wireline. With the Well Stroker®, it is now possible to open and close zonal isolation valves and sliding side door valves. Setting and retrieving gas lift valves in highly deviated side pocket mandrels is also possible by incorporating the use of a standard kick-over tool. Retrievable

52

plugs can be retrieved on standard wireline with the use of the Well Stroker®. The force of the Well Stroker® can replace the use of explosives in packer setting applications, providing enhanced safety and easier logistics.

Case history: setting bridge plug The Well Stroker® is the holder of several world records. In July 2006, the tool was used to set a bridge plug under 300 Sm3/D X-flow offshore Norway, which was a world’s first. The result of the job was reduced water rates from 2150 to 150 m3/sd. Oil rates were maintained while water cut was reduced from 90% to 45%.

Retrievable plugs can be retrieved on standard wireline with the use of the Well Stroker ®

53

The Well Stroker® Recent developments have shown that it is feasible to perform mechanical interventions in horizontal wells by applying standard electrical wireline in conjunction with Well Stroker® technology. Since the Well Stroker® was introduced to the market in 2002, the tool has been used to shift sliding sleeves, change out gas lift valves, set and retrieve mechanical plugs and to conduct fishing operations. The Well Stroker® can open and close several sliding sleeves in one run. The advantage is that all these operations can be done without a rig. The Well Stroker® is normally run in conjunction with the Well Key® or a mechanical shifting tool and the Well

Tractor®, which conveys the Well Stroker®/shifting tool to the desired depth i.e. zonal isolation valve or packer. When the Well Stroker® is activated, it anchors itself to the tubing using a fail-safe hydraulic system. Once anchored, it applies an axially focused force, up to 33,000 lbs, through the attached shifting tool. The direction of movement is controlled from the surface each time it is activated. The design of the Well Stroker® is based on the same fail-safe design that is used for the Well Tractor®. Should an operational problem occur, the Well Stroker® is designed to default into safety mode. The anchors will collapse, preventing the tool from getting stuck.

The Well Stroker® is the equivalent of a downhole piston that can produce an axially focused force up to 33,000 lbs.

55

Why Use a Well Key ®?

Top connector Connects to the Well Stroker® above

The Well Key® offers the flexibility to run an intelligent shifting tool. The tool provides maximum flexibility in completion design for optimized production and intervention strategy. The Well Key® complements the concept of intelligent completions that do not require intervention.

Case history: opening isolation valve Anything that slickline can achieve in a vertical well can now be achieved in a horizontal well on the end of electric wireline. For instance, at a sub sea installation, the Well Key® was used in conjunction with the Well Stroker® to open a partly closed isolation valve on electrical wireline. As a result of the operation, full rate production was achieved. Additionally, substantial working hours were saved.

Bull nose The bull nose can be replaced with a bottom connector for connection of logging tools below the Well Key®

56

Shifting key The Well Key® can be fitted with two customized shifting keys, enabling shifting upwards and downwards

The Well Stroker® with the Well Key ®? To compliment the Well Stroker ®, the Well Key ® has been developed as a command controlled shifting tool for downhole valves The Well Key® is run in conjunction with the Well Stroker®, which applies the required force to shift a valve once the Well Key® has latched into the shifting profile. When the Well Key is located at the nominated depth, it is activated and put into “search mode”. Depending on the direction in which the valve has to be manipulated, the Well Key® is pushed by the Well Tractor® or pulled by the wireline until the Well Key® latches into the shifting profile. ®

Once the Well Key® has located the shifting profile and has latched into it, the Well Stroker® is powered up to shift the valve.

When the valve has been shifted, the Well Key® will disengage from the shifting profile and continue in search mode. When all valves have been shifted, the search mode will be terminated. The keys retract into the tool, allowing the wireline string to be pulled out of the hole. The use of active hydraulics while the key is in search mode prevents the tool from getting stuck in a sliding sleeve since the nature of the key is inactive. The keys on the Well Key® can be configured according to the specific profile, ensuring compatibility to a range of downhole valves.

Why Use a Well Cleaner ®? The Well Cleaner® offers the ability to selectively clean areas of the well bore and remove debris from inside the well. With the latest developments for this system, it is possible for electric wireline cleaning systems to remove up to 500 liters of sand per run from a well (depending on bailer size, type of sand and rig up height). It is being viewed by the operating community as a major breakthrough in the application of ground-breaking technology, reducing the cost of well intervention whilst enhancing production.

Case history: cleaning on wireline When attempting to run a PLT in a 90° deviated well, an operator had to cancel the job due to sand production early in the wellbore. The Well Tractor®, Welltec Release Device® and Well Cleaner® PST (Power Suction Tool) configured with 20.5 ft 4” bailer sections were run in hole and successfully recovered 250 liters of sand over the course of 16 runs.

60

Due to the highly modular construction, the Well Cleaner ® is the ideal system for removing sand, scale and other types of debris downhole

61

The Well Cleaner® The Well Cleaner® has been designed to remove built-up scale, sand and debris from the inside of the completion profile. It can be configured to fit specific well conditions, collect specified amounts of sand in dry gas wells or dislodge scale from inside the tubing wall. Depending on well conditions and the application, we offer liquid environment and dry environment cleaning systems. Areas of operation for the Well Cleaner® are cleaning nipple seats prior to setting straddle packers or picking up sand inside of the well bore. All Well Cleaner® operations are run on the Well Tractor®, which applies the constant weight on bit and holds the reactive torque away from the electric wireline. To optimize the cleaning of different materials and downhole completion items, it is possible to change the type of cleaning head attached to the end of the Well Cleaner®. Cost-savings are obtained as the tool can be configured to clean even very small areas of the well bore selectively.

Well Cleaner® operations are run in conjunction with a W e l l Tr a c t o r ®, w h i c h a p p l i e s t h e c o n s t a n t w e i g h t o n bit and controls the reactive torque.

Why Use a Well Miller ®? The electrically driven Well Miller® makes

68

it possible to mill and drill on wireline

Our milling technologies offer the opportunity to perform heavyduty well intervention with a light touch. The Well Miller® has revolutionized technology for the oil and gas industry as it enables operators to remove downhole isolation valves or barriers by milling and/or drilling on wireline. Various milling bits, all designed by Welltec®, are available for the Well Miller®. Welltec® also designs custom-made milling bits that enable the tool to engage any obstruction downhole. The Well Miller® has been used to remove isolation valves made of Inconel and Superchrome. It has also been used to remove Barium Sulfate scale bridges in dry gas wells.

In new wells, the Well Miller® has been utilized to establish flow paths through isolation valves, such as flapper valves and ball valves, which have failed to open. The flow paths have been established by cutting out and retrieving a section of the valve that would not open.

Case history: milling of flapper valve At a platform in the UK part of the North Sea, the Well Miller® was used to drill a 1” hole through a flapper valve, allowing full injection rates required for chemical squeezes. Total drilling time was 20 minutes, which was a considerable time saving compared to coiled tubing milling.

The Well Miller® With its ability to drill and mill on wireline, the Well Miller® represents the next generation o f i n t e r v e n t i o n t e c h n o l o g y.

In many situations, coiled tubing cannot apply the necessary weight on bit to deal adequately with scale build-up. Our wireline milling services utilize the Well Tractor® to ensure a constant, optimized weight on bit regardless of the extension of the well. The cutting face is specifically designed by Welltec remove the obstruction in the well bore.

The Well Miller® provides operators with the ability to carry out “keyhole surgery” in their completions on the end of electric wireline. This has a radical impact upon the cost of mobilizing conventional intervention equipment. Depending on the application, the Well Miller® also features the ability to pick up the cuttings generated during the milling process, which means that no debris is left downhole.

The Well Miller® provides revolutionary capabilities to oil and gas companies that seek to increase production while reducing costs.

The Well Miller® NPR milling nipple profiles and tubing collapses on wireline

Welltec® has designed, manufactured and tested a groundbreaking solution for milling nipple profiles; the Well Miller® NPR (Nipple Profile Removal) This solution includes a brand new milling bit that has been developed for the Well Miller® in order to expand the ID of the nipple profile from 3.895” to 4.45” in one run. The purpose of this new development is to expand the nipple profile IDs in order to allow e.g. straddle packers to pass through. However, the Well Miller® NPR can also be applied to partially deformed pipe due to collapse as well as to many other restrictions in the tubulars. For instance, the Well Miller® NPR was mobilized offshore and removed a tubing collapse in a 7” 26# tubing. The whole operation from rig up to rig down took six hours. The Well Miller® NPR provides precision milling without mobilizing heavy surface equipment for circulating and handling fluids and therefore, no risk of damaging the reservoir.

This new tool setup, electronics and software enable us to solve problems never before solved on wireline.

Case history: world’s first nipple milling on wireline The world’s first jobs took place in Indonesia in 2008 where an operator needed to remove a number of nipple profiles. Initially, they had considered coiled tubing but this would require a well kill first, which made Welltec’s lightweight wireline solution the preferred service. Welltec® mobilized with the Well Miller® NPR to enlarge the nipple profiles in eight wells and clear the way for further intervention services. The operator avoided a well kill and had tremendous cost savings compared to CT. Total operating time was 10.5 days and involved less equipment and less people. As of July 2009, Welltec® has successfully enlarged the ID of 16 Super 13 Chrome nipples from 3.697 and 3.570 to 3.7” for this operator.

The Well Miller® RCB

Milling on wireline and retrieving debris to the surface

Introducing the possibility to mill out obstructions and remove them to the surface, the Well Miller® RCB (Reverse Circulating Bit) stands for a technological breakthrough. When wells display lost production due to mineral deposits, the Well Miller® RCB can mill and also recover the debris in a bailer system. It is also the ideal solution to remove temporary cement plugs.

Furthermore, the Well Miller® RCB reduces the time and man power required for performing services, onshore as well as offshore. Compared to coiled tubing or rig work-over operations, savings in operation time and personnel can be reduced by more than 2/3. Combined with quick returns on investment, this makes the Well Miller® RCB a highly advantageous solution.

The Well Miller® RCB can be mobilized in a matter of hours together with the conveyance solution and required field personnel. This rapid mobilization makes pro-active maintenance of the well site attractive and avoids the cost of a full coiled tubing spread operation.

Case history: preventing costly recompletion

With its unique ability to operate across any depth range, pipe size, high temperature and pressure as well as flowing conditions, the Well Miller® RCB ensures that the well is quickly ready for production, exposed to fewer risks and eliminates a larger intervention in the well.

74

Due to suspension of a tubing collapse, an operator was about to pull the completion in a deviated well. As a last attempt prior to pulling the completion, Welltec’s newly developed Well Miller® RCB was called out. Configured with a 3.75” milling bit and two bailer sections, the system successfully milled from 9,890 to 9,940 ft in 20 minutes. After one run, seven liters of debris were recovered and the well was drifted open to 3.75” ID, proving that the tubing was intact. Mobilization was extremely fast for this job; from the meeting with the client until the tools were put onboard a helicopter only took six hours.

Welltec Release Device®

The Welltec Release Device® (WRD) is a command controlled release sub, which can be placed anywhere on the wireline toolstring. It can be placed below the Well Tractor® or directly below the cable head. The WRD is designed to facilitate maximum flexibility and can be used in multiple positions at the same time, assuring optimum reliability and dependability. It is possible to use multiple Welltec Release Devices® on the same toolstring as the tools are set to release at different times.

The Welltec Release Device® can be actuated in one of two ways: a) Command from surface b) A timer-executed release will occur after the toolstring has been static and not powered for a pre-specified period of time After the WRD is released, a fishing profile is provided on the toolstring, which is left downhole. This allows conventional fishing operations to take place.
