WELL TESTING

We Are Well Testing

Solving challenges.™

Over 85 years ago, Halliburton introduced drillstem testing (DST) to the oil industry, establishing the initial standard for well testing. These early well tests provided an understanding of reservoir productivity, fluid type, and near-wellbore boundaries. Over the years, well testing has evolved dramatically to provide greater reservoir information.

Halliburton provides well testing systems that collect bulk and pressure/volume/temperature (PVT) samples to provide input for completion design, production facility design, and establishment of refining properties. Well testing systems also allow for safe collection of data necessary to perform interpretations that determine productivity indicators such as permeability, skin, and initial reservoir pressure.

Halliburton continues its leadership in well testing by providing solutions that are safe and environmentally responsible. The broad range of Halliburton products and services provide fit-for-purpose well testing solutions that deliver dynamic reservoir information required by clients.

FLUID SAMPLING & ANALYSIS

Real-Time Operations Today’s competitive environment demands quick decisions. With Real-Time Operations (RTO), Halliburton is optimizing resources, reducing risks, reducing the time required to carry out operations, and optimizing well testing budgets.

Accurate fluid sampling and analysis are keys to optimizing the profitability of an oil or gas field. Halliburton specializes in reservoir fluids sampling and provides a complete range of analytical services from routine wellsite analysis such as H2S, mercaptan, radon and mercury analysis through to laboratory based PVT studies. The samples, when analyzed, provide input for production facility design, completion design and establishment of refining properties.

Using powerful HalLink® satellite communications technology to bridge the distance between people and data, Real-Time Operations brings well test data directly to the experts, enabling Halliburton and the client to monitor and analyze a well test in real time without traveling to the wellsite. In addition to providing real-time access to data collected at the wellsite, the satellite communications system allows direct access to the Halliburton technical information network, direct voice access, and e-mail access from the wellsite. This means not only faster communication of vital information from the wellsite to support personnel, but also faster solutions for unplanned events.

Physical properties and chemical composition of reservoir fluids play a crucial role in all aspects of petroleum and reservoir engineering. Accurate sampling and analysis techniques often provide critical input to reservoir simulation models and help to optimize processing facility designs while boosting the profitability of an oil or gas field. Department of Transportation Approved Sample Cylinders

INSITE Anywhere® Drill View To facilitate real-time decision making during well testing, data acquisition products were integrated with the field-proven INtegrated System for Information Technology and Engineering (INSITE®) data management system. The INSITE system provides networked wellsite information that allows integration of well information for real-time analysis at the wellsite, at the Real-Time Operations Center, or in the client’s office. The INSITE Anywhere® service provides customized access to well data through an Internet connection without the need for complete installation of the INSITE system. The Halliburton surface readout (SRO) system, DynaLink, provides a reliable method of receiving real-time downhole pressure and temperature data for early retrieval of data for analysis and decision making. This electric wireline-conveyed system is capable of transmitting data across Halliburton annulus operated downhole Well Testing 5

Surface Sampling and Analytical Services Representative sampling of test separator oil and gas is an essential requirement for the vast majority of well tests. The T-FAS® separator sampling kit has been designed for ease of use and to provide a safe, static support for valves, gauges, and pressurized cylinders. The layout allows the operator to simultaneously take oil and gas samples from the test separator in a controlled manner to ensure representative samples. The sampling skid holds up to 2×20 liter gas bottles and one 700 to 1,000 cc oil bottle.

tester valves in drillstem testing (DST) applications, or can be hung off on wireline in bottomhole pressure survey applications. The SRO system uses an extremely rugged sapphire gauge that also stores data in memory mode. The data sample rate can be adjusted throughout the test without the need to physically retrieve the gauge.

Sample acquisition rates can also be logged during the sampling operation by use of digital pressure sensors, the pressure vs. time plots can then be printed out and included as part of the PVT sampling report. Department of Transportation approved mercury free gas and oil bottles are available in a range of working pressures and strict maintenance procedures ensure uncontaminated cylinder supply. Armada Sampling System Specifications

Armada Tubing Conveyed Sample Carrier

• Arrives at location fully assembled • Successfully tested for heavy/viscous oil applications

The system was specifically designed for extended service and is field proven in HP/HT environments. Each of the nine Inconel® samplers are rated for 400°F/200°C and 20,000 psi/138 MPa service and collect a 400 cc sample which is kept monophasic by the exertion of nitrogen pressure. A number of innovative features have been incorporated into the design to facilitate improved sample quality and prompt interpretation of the tools performance. For example the sample piston has a junk chamber for isolating the initial surge of potentially non-representative fluid during sample capture. The samplers are ceramically coated to prevent loss of components such as H2S and the sample pistons have a position location feature imbedded in it which allows its location to be tracked by non-invasive means. Consequently, within minutes of the recovered sampler being set down on the rig floor, the client can have a reasonable understanding of the success of his sampling program.

Certain aspects of the Armada system design impart significant operational advantages. The entire sampler can be assembled at the shore base and shipped offshore with a nominal nitrogen charge. On location all that is needed is to finish charging the nitrogen sections so that within hours of getting to location, the Armada system is ready to run in the hole. After a run the nitrogen section can be isolated under pressure and set aside for a second DST as needed. The samplers are also relatively simple in design and can be quickly redressed on location. This combination makes for a very robust and reliable tool that can deliver significant savings in rig time. Inconel is a registered trademark of Special Metals Corporation and Huntington Alloys.
