Description

Wastewater treatment of sugar industry Sources of wastewater: Sugar industry wastewaters are produced mainly by cleaning operations. Washing Washing of milling house oor, various division of boiling house like evaporators, clariers, vacuum pans, centrifugation, etc. generates gener ates huge volume of wastewater. wastewater. Also, wash water used for lter cloth of rotary vacuum lter and periodical cleaning of lime water and S! producing house becomes a part of wastewater. wastewater. "eriodical cleaning of heat e#changers and evaporators with $a% and %&l to remove the scales on the tube surface contributes organic and inorganic pollutant loadings to wastewater wastewat er.. 'eakages from pumps, pipelines, centrifuging house also contribute to wastewater produced. (#cept this, wastewater is also produced from boiler blow down, spray pond overow, and from condenser cooling water which is discharged as wastewater when it gets contaminated with cane )uice.

&ontaminants of wastewater: Sugar industry wastewater contains wash water with lost cane  )uice in various operations, detergents, bagasse particles, oil oil and grease used for lubrication, and lost sugar solids in process. *t is characteri+ed by high concentrations of nutrients, organic and inorganic contents. he ranges of &- and - are from //01 /!00mg2' and 3014000mg2' respectively. he p% and total solids concentration are 5.41/0 and 303!mg2' respectively. respectively. hese values changes from industry to industry. industry. *t also contains con tains heavy metals ion such as 6n 7!,&u7!,"b7!,&d7!,8e ,8e7!,&r79 etc.
