As this is the first month of our new-look Vaughan Review we’ve chosen a theme that represents the process we’ve been through with the magazine: ‘Cleaning and Housework’. Every once in a while we all have to don (ponernos) the rubber gloves and get scrubbing (frotar).

The Supermarket (El Supermercado)

If you’re living in an English speaking country for any length of time,or just visiting on a shoestring (con un presupuesto limitado),the chances are you’ll have to venture into a supermarket at some time. Don’t worry; the sentences below contain vocabulary that might come in useful. By the way, in English there is a clear difference between the expression “to do some shopping” and “to go shopping”.The former is used when we are talking about shopping as a necessity (i.e buying food and basics for the house) whilst the latter is used when we are talking about shopping for pleasure.

Spain has a long tradition of great tennis players, from Santana and Orantes, on through Bruguera, Vicario, Corretja and Conchita Martinez, right up to Nadal, Ferrero and Moyá of today. On the road En la carretera

There’s nothing worse than being picked up at the airport by an employee of a company you are going to do business with and finding you have absolutely nothing to talk about. This need not be a problem since you can always talk about the state of the road you are travelling along (as long as you have the appropriate vocabulary at your finger-tips). Work through this translation list and you will never have to endure this embarrassing situation again.
