Preface This tutorial is primarily about post-processing and plotting features of Visual-CAST. It describes methods to post-process CAST analysis data. The tutorials are designed to serve the needs of engineers, students, teachers and the casting community at large, who routinely use Visual-CAST as post-processing software. All examples used in this tutorial are available in the ProCAST installation under the folder $ProCAST20061/examples. It is recommended to copy all example files to a location with read/write permissions. The manual is divided into basic and advanced training tutorials. •
Basic training tutorials describe how Visual-CAST can be used to perform simple postprocessing and plotting operations.
•
Advanced training tutorials take a closer look at some of the key post- processing and plotting and reporting features in Visual-CAST.
At some point, however, the reader should be able to break from the basics and move to the advanced topics. The Table below lists the various hands-on-tutorials and approximate time estimates for executing them. We close the course with a brief note on the features and tools that are not covered in the training tutorials.

Prerequisites: Before executing this tutorial, we recommend that you install and launch Visual-CAST from the list of available contexts Objective: This tutorial describes in brief the general features including the Graphical user interface, the Menus, Explorer, and Command Window of Visual-CAST. Description: Visual-CAST is a plug-in application hosted within the PAM-HOST environment. Thus, a lot of the basic interface functionalities are provided by the PAM-HOST application while more specific tools are introduced through the Visual-CAST plug-in. When the user holds a valid Visual-CAST license, the Visual-CAST option appears in the context list. When the Visual-CAST context is active, the Visual-CAST icon (
) is displayed in the upper left
corner of the application window. Visual-CAST may also start directly from the ProCAST Manager with a right mouse click on the “ViewCAST” button and selecting Visual-CAST in the scroll down list. In this chapter the following features are introduced: •

Description of components of the graphic user interface •
The window area, where models and curves are displayed in one or more windows.
•
The menu bar, where all the functions of the active plug-in application are accessible through thematic pull down menus.
•
The explorer, where the loaded curves and models are displayed in a tree structure
•
The Model Window, where users can see all model related operations in right click.
•
The message console window, where system messages are displayed.
•
The command console window, where viewer commands are executed.
Plot window •
Curves are visualized in the plot window. An example is shown below.

The active plot window is always displayed with a green color border. A plot window can be made active by clicking the mouse anywhere on it.

Menu Bar •
The menu bar is a thin strip at the top of the PAM-HOST application window, where all the pull-down menus are displayed.
•
Each “context” features its own menu, so the menu bar changes with the active “context”.
•
Each pull down menu consists of a list of options.
•
Menus are used in the standard manner found in all menu-driven commercial applications. You can use the mouse or the standard keyboard shortcuts to navigate through them.

Explorer Explorer presents curve data in a structured format using a tree hierarchy. It lists all the imported results and curve data. The information is displayed in two views, Explore view and Page view. The explorer display is toggled On/Off through the tool button
on the standard
tool bar. The tabs “Explorer” and “Page” indicate object view and page view respectively. It can be used as a shift between Explorer and Page views. Explorer View

Usage In selecting the plot title the corresponding plot will be selected, in selecting the curve name, the corresponding curve will be selected. By right clicking All Pages, Page, Plot, Curve; a context-based menu will be displayed for manipulations.

To animate the contour in continuous steps. Go to the animation tool bar and click on the icon Play Forward

In the posted Contour Panel > click on the Display button to post the Display Control GUI -> Toggle on OFF in the posted dialog to visualize the contour in Free Surface Off mode.

Click on Menu Options -> Free Surfaces -> ONLY -> to visualize the contour display in only free surfaces region.

In the Result list of the Contour Panel -> change the default result to Shrinkage Porosity to visualize the porosity with the Cutoff value above 0.01-> Go to Last Step in the Animation Controls Toolbar > you can see the porosity region with the Cutoff value above 0.01.

In the posted Contour Panel change the contour Categories to Fluid to visualize the fluid flow results.

Scale Control and Settings •
Click on the Scale button of the Contour Panel or click on Scale Control

Click on Save RGB > save the modified spectrum color to the training folder with Modified_RBG.rgb > Click on Reset RGB to reset the spectrum to the original patron

Change the tab from Preferences > #Levels to 10 > Click on Value… > from the posted Settings Panel change Font Family to Ariel, Bold and Size to 14.

Create Text and Table blocks •
Invoke Visual-CAST.

Click on the Appends New Page

Make sure Page 2 i.e. P2W1 is the active window.
