VAS-PC Java Version Error Messages

Notes:  The following procedures must only be performed by advanced users or IT professionals.  Read the information that follows in its entirety before proceeding with any instruction steps.  Should you have any questions or concerns on the following procedures, call the DTSS team at 800-896-1298 for assistance.

1. Introduction The VAS-PC program installed on VAS 505X and 6150 diagnostic devices relies on a specific Java version to execute various commands as well as display information in a desired format via Java Virtual Machine (JVM). It is critical that the device has the required version of Java installed for the program to operate successfully.

2. Symptoms Various error messages generated by either the VAS-PC application or Windows operating system will indicate a problem with the installed Java version. Examples: During GFF/GF sessions, the device returns a VAS-PC error message starting with:  “ASAM-MCD ……”  “EDIABAS……” When attempting to clear faults during GFF or VSD sessions, the device returns a Windows error message starting with:  “VASEGD.exe ……”  “GFS.exe….” In all cases, click on the VAS-PC or Windows error message “Details” button to confirm if the issue is related to, or caused by the installed Java version.

3. Cause If any of the above error message details mention a Java issue, the Java version being used by JVM is not allowing proper VAS-PC functions. It is likely that an incompatible Java version was inadvertently installed while the device was connected to the dealership network.
