Felt   Felt can basically be divided into two types: wool elt or washable elt. Wool elt is recommended recommend ed or this doll. Tese quality materials help dolls look their ver veryy best.

Sewing and embroidery  Tese ornaments are embroidered and stitched together with embroidery floss. In case you´re not amiliar with one o the stitches, you can practice the stitches a ew times on a elt scraps beore working on a ornament. None o the stitches are difficult, but can take some practice to get perect. Always keep your stitches and the space between them consistent with your sewing tension.  Or, ithe yousame wantlength. to keepBeembroidery to a minimum, you can sometimes glue on certain elements, instead o embroidering them.  You can experiment and use your imagination to customize the project. 2

 

Embroidery stitches 1. A󰁰󰁰󰁬󰁩󰁱󰁵󰃩 S󰁴󰁩󰁴󰁣󰁨: Stitching a elt piece onto a elt surace. Place the appliqué on the background elt. Make tiny stitches perpendicular to the edge o the appliqué. 󰀲. O󰁶󰁥󰁲󰁣󰁡󰁳󰁴 S󰁴󰁩󰁴󰁣󰁨: Simple stitch over the edge o the elt. Also called whip-stitch, is used to attach two pieces o elt. Tis isn´t a decorative stitch, so always use floss that matches the color o the elt and make the stitches small and neat. 󰀳. S󰁴󰁲󰁡󰁩󰁧󰁨󰁴 S󰁴󰁩󰁴󰁣󰁨: Use a simple straight stitch to create a moti. moti. 󰀴. A backstitch gets its name because you create it moving the needle a stitch backward beore moving it orward to create the next stitch. 󰀷. F󰁲󰁥󰁮󰁣󰁨 K󰁮󰁯󰁴󰁳: Te French knot produces a rounded knot that can be used to create a series o decorative dots. o make it, bring the needle up at the point at which you want to make your French knot, hold the thread and wrap it around the needle twice, as shown. Bring the needle back to the starting point and put the point back through the abric very near where it emerged (be careul not use the same exact hole) . Pull the needle to the back o the elt and pull taut. o make a bigger knot, wrap more twists o thread around the needle and/or use more strands o floss in your needle. 󰀸. L󰁡󰁤󰁤󰁥󰁲 󰁳󰁴󰁩󰁴󰁣󰁨: Te ladder stitch is used to attach separate parts such as a doll’s head. It’s called the ladder because thestitches stitchesaslook a ladder pull stitchesthe tight to close the seam. Materials

. White elt (3” x 6”). . Orange elt (2” x 4”). . Scraps o pink and green elt. . Stuffing. . Embroidery floss: White, brown and orange.

. Embroidery needle. . Scissors. . Chopstick or pointy tool. . Artist pastels (red or pink). . 2 Saety eyes (4 mm) . Pencil or elt marker.

1. Print the pattern pieces on page 11 onto paper and cut out to make templates. race templates onto elt using a elt marker or pencil and cut out on the line. Cut careully so edges are vertical, not slanted. 2. Align the two ear e ar pieces (white + pink) and sew together with a blanket stitch. 3. Careully, make two tiny holes with the tip o a very sharp pair o embroidery scissors. 4. Insert saety eyes and connectors at back. 5. Tread an embroidery needle with two strands o brown embroidery floss and make the nose with a ew tiny horizontal overlapp overlapping ing satin stitches, and a single vertical ver tical stitch. Add two straight stitches at the base o the vertical stitch or the mouth, ollowing the positioning in the picture. Make bunny´s eyebrows by sewing two tiny straight stitches or each one and placing at a slight angle. 6. Overcast stitch the darts on ront and back head pieces with two strands o white floss, making sure to sew them up on the wrong side o the elt. 7. Use craf glue to fix the ears in position on the wrong side o the second s econd head piece. 8. Align the two head pieces together, right sides out. Tread an embroidery needle with a single strand o white embroidery floss and sew the two head pieces together with a overcast stitch. Stop stitching when opening is small enough or stuffing. 9. Beore ending overcast stitches, push in toy stuffing using a stick and stitch it closed. Knot thread and cut off excess. e xcess. 10. Paint the cheeks using artist arti st pastels. Rub the pastel on a piece o paper and then apply the resulting powder with a sof brush. 11. Tread an embroidery needle with two strands o orange floss and back stitch a ew horizontal lines across the carrot. 12. Overcast stitch the darts on ront and back body shapes with one strand o orange floss, making sure to sew them up on the wrong side o the elt. 13. Align the two body shapes together and thread an embroidery needle with two strands o orange embroidery embroidery floss. Stitch the pieces together around the edges o the body using overcast stitch, leaving the top open. 14. Ten, stuff firmly with toy stuffing. Continue to add a bit o stuffing so that the body is stuffed firmly all the way. 15 &16. Run a gathering stitch just below the neck opening and tighten the thread, closing the hole. 17. Position the head so that it overlaps the body. body. Pin head to body. Using Using an embroidery needle and one strand o orange floss, attach with embroidery thread using a ladder stitch and going round and round till the head is nice and secure. I it seems wobbly, go back around one more time with the stitching. 18. Glue or sew the shaf shapes on the neck, using the diagram as a guide. 5

Stuff 

1. Use the templates (see page 11) to cut two egg shapes rom the white elt, one rabbit shape rom the gray elt and a ew dots o green and orange elt. o cut small circles, cut into the elt in a spiral motion, turning the elt piece around as you sew, and making the spiral smaller until you you get the size o circle yyou ou want. 2. Stick the gray rabbit rabbit onto the right side o the egg ront, ront, using just a tiny tiny quantity o craf glue and sew it on, using one strand o dark beige floss and appliqué stitch. 3. Tread an embroidery needle with two strands o black floss and embroider the eyes using two French knots. Make eyebrows by sewing two tiny straight stitches or each one and placing at a slight angle. Embroider the nose with a tiny cross stitch, positioned between the eyes. Satin stitch the belly with two strands o white embroidery floss. 4. Place the tiny elt dots and sew them, onto the egg ront and back shapes, at random. Use one small cross stitch o matching thread to attach each circle. 5 & 6. Align the two t wo egg pieces together, together, right sides out. Tread an embroidery needle with two strands o white floss and sew the pieces together with a small overcast stitch. Leave a gap at the base o the egg and fill it with toy stuffing. When the padding is distributed, overcast stitch the gap closed. 6

1. Use the templates (see page 11) to cut two carrot shapes rom the orange elt and two shaf shapes rom the green elt 2. Careully, Careully, make a tiny hole with the tip o a ver veryy sharp pair o embroidery scissors. 3. Insert saety eye and connector at back. 4. E󰁭󰁢󰁲󰁯󰁩󰁤󰁥󰁲 󰁴󰁨󰁥 󰁦󰁡󰁣󰁥. Tread an embroidery needle with two strands o black embroidery floss and embroider the ace onto the orange piece, checking against the picture to get the placement right. Te right eye is i s made using a ew curving cu rving backstitches. Te eyelashes are made using a small straight stitch or each eye. e ye. Make eyebrows by sewing two tiny straight stitches or each one and placing at a slight angle. Embroider a small, curved mouth with a ew back stitches. Tread an embroidery needle with two strands o orange floss and back stitch a ew horizontal lines across the carrot. 5. You can make different carrots to create a garland, changing the ace expression. Tere are many nice ways to embroider eyes and mouth using saety eyes, back stitch and straight stitches. Just try out what you like best! 6. Use a dot o glue to fix the two shaf pieces in position on the wrong side o the second carrot piece. 7. Pin or hold the two sides o tthe he carrot together and overcast stitch around the edge with matching embroidery embroidery thread, leaving the bottom open. 8. Stuff firmly with toy stuffing. 9. Add a bit o color to it cheeks using an artist pastel or powder blush.

Assembling the garland

String together simple elt balls or pompoms and these ornaments to create this Easter garland. Make Make a loop and ti tiee a knot at one end o the baker twine. Measure 6 inches rom  rom the loop and tie a knot. With the large darning needle, stitch through the top o the elt ball with the barker´s twine. ie a knot at the other end o the ball. Measure 2 inches rom this knot tie another one.a Repeat t his this process you have added all balls and ornaments to theand barker twine. ie hanging loop at enduntil o the garland.

Ideas

Tese carrots, bunny and and egg also make lovely single ornaments. ornaments. Simple add a ha hanging nging loop at the top o each e ach ornament. Wi With th the large darning needle, stitch through the top o the bulb with the barker´s twine. Pull Pu ll the ends o the ttwine wine up, and knot the tails to create a hanger. I you are using your little carrot as a brooch, attach the pin to the carrot back. Sew a brooch finding securely to the center o the head back with doubled white thread. I you want, you can cover the base o the pin back with a small elt heart. 9
