The plasma torch is made up of three tubes that are usually made from quartz. These three tubes are known as the sample injector, the outer tube and the middle tube. A plasma torch can either be made all as one piece (where the tubes are all connected) or it be designed where the tubes and the sample injector stand on their own. The gas that is used to help form the plasma flows through the torch in between the outer and middle tubes of the torch. An auxiliary gas flows between the middle tube and the sample injector and there is a third gas that flows within the torch and it carries the sample.
