MELISSA: The Rider basketball team just got back from a successful trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the Hoops for Hope Classic, where they walked away with two wins. The Broncs lost the other two games that were part of the Hoops for Hope Classic but were able to bounce back where the sun must have done them some good. The first winning game was against Jacksonville, where the Broncs took away an 86 to 71 win. The last game of the classic was against the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee where the Broncs won 74 to 60. The Rider Broncs will be playing LaSalle in our home court for Academic achievement night on November 29th.

SAREEN: Westminster Choir College is ringing in the holiday season with its annual Princeton Evening of Readings and Carols. This event at the Princeton University Chapel has been part of the school’s tradition for over 20 years, and will take place on December 7th and 8th at eight o’clock in the evening. The performance features the freshman and sophomore class choirs, the world-renowned Concert Bell Choir, members of the upperclassmen Symphonic Choir, and the Solid Brass Ensemble. Tickets are no longer available, but

you can still listen to the performance streamed online through WWFM – The Classical Network on Christmas Day. (Close up of Melissa) (GRAPHIC: Photo of student cramming for exams)

MELISSA: As finals are creeping up on the Rider University student body, there are some tips to a non-stressful finals week. According to U-S News and World Report there are five ways a college student can prepare for the stresses that are going to pile up.

(Cut to: TEXT list, “Tips to Stress Free MELISSA: Students listen up: first, you should make a schedule of all the work and studying Finals”) you have to do. Second, set reasonable (TEXT: “Make a studying list”) expectations that you can actually get done. (TEXT: “Know your limits”) (Cut to: Close up of Melissa in studio)

MELISSA: No need to take away time to shower, just set limits…for everything.

(Cut to: list, “Don’t cram for the exam”)

MELISSA: Third, don’t stay up late and cram the night before. Take care of yourself during finals week.

MELISSA: You could do a lot better on your finals if you sleep. Get lots of sleep but don’t overdo it. This is the week you choose studying and sleep. MELISSA: Fourth, eat well and go to the gym. Your body will thank you later and you won’t have problems while studying. MELISSA: Don’t reach for those energy drinks and reach for the fruit. Lastly, take advantage of all the help you can get. The tutoring services in the BLC actually work. MELISSA: Now here’s our field reporter John Herbert covering the holiday lighting. JOHN: Thanks, Melissa. I’m John Herbert, the reporter out in the field for today, and we are at the Moore Library where a festivity of lights is soon to occur.

JOHN: Many people, like Joe, are excited to see the lights return to campus this year. It’s a B-ROLL: (Midshot of students around the night of beautiful lights, good friends, and warm food that was unfortunately cut from the library) budget last year.     (Midshot) – TEXT: “Aimee Simone, Rider AIMEE: I’m really excited for it. My freshman year, we had the lights on the library, and we Student/Photographer” loved it. We thought it was great. And then sophomore year, you know, December came around, and there were no lights, and we were really disappointed. So when we found out they were bringing them back, it was really cool. The flames have (Close up of Sareen in studio) died down at a local home in Princeton Township where a mistakenly dropped lit (GRAPHIC: Photo of burning home) cigarette was responsible for starting a massive fire. Residents of the house evacuated and made the call to the Princeton Police Department this past Friday. According to police, the cigarette was laying near a pile of dry leaves and a plastic rain diverter, where the fire began and quickly spread to the outer wall and deck area of the house. Several fire departments helped out at the scene, including Kingston, Plainsboro, and South Brunswick. Firefighters had the fire under control in just under an hour. MELISSA: The Broncs give back. less fortunate. Coach Kevin Baggett said, (GRAPHIC: Second photo of team “Serving a meal at the Trenton Area Soup members at soup kitchen as Melissa reads Kitchen was very beneficial for our whole quote) team. It was an opportunity to help those in our community who are less fortunate and give our guys a chance to see how fortunate they really are at this point in their lives.” 11 players and the whole coaching staff were there to lend a hand. SAREEN: For those of us who have difficulty focusing on work when sitting on our laptops, there is an app that will help us be more (GRAPHIC: Screen cap of Self-Control productive: Self-Control. This app blocks access to certain websites for a set period of Application) time. You can choose to block yourself from accessing sites like Facebook, Twitter, and your email for a set amount of time, but still have access to other sites online. You also get (GRAPHIC: Screen cap of application to choose the amount of time these sites are blocked. Here’s the catch, though – once the timer) timer is set, it can’t be undone and will run all the way through, even if you try deleting it or restarting your computer. Be efficient and get your work finished without distractions and get GRAPHIC: link – “selfcontrolapp.com” some Self-Control. Visit self-control-app-dotcom to download. (Close up of Sareen)
