HOW TO MAKE A STAR KNOT

MAKİNG THE EYE

INSTRUCTİONS FOR THE PİNEAPPLE LLK KEY FOB. The first thing that you need to do is get the instructions for the LLK from Dan the "Alaska Museum of Fancy Knots".His instructions are required to complete the inlayed LLK. www.knotical-arts.com

First you need to made the LLK up to the point that you see above. The point that you see is with the foot rope knot singled with the ends tucked completely under the knot.

Take a piece of line the same size and the line used in the LLK but a different color. Using a self treading needle (available fromwww.knotical-arts.com and other sites) start treading the pineapple inlay.Starting at the point shown above.

After the first tuck, moving toward you make your second tuck at the location shown. The lower orange line is the one connected in line to the needle.

Rotate the key fob away from you and insert the needle in the location shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again rotate away you and continue treading the inlay. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again rotate away you and continue treading the inlay. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again rotate away you and continue treading the inlay. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again rotate away you and continue treading the inlay. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Here you will notice that you are going over a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again rotate away you and continue treading the inlay. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you will notice that you are going over a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

This is the inlay lay completed.DO NOT TIGHTEN THE KNOT YET.You do not want it to work loose while you are tying the LLK and the inlay.

NOW I AM GOİNG TO GO OVE THE LLK PART OF THE PİNEAPPLE INLAY.

In order to make the process easyer, you should completely tie the LLK but do not tighten or cut the ends of the lines.Take a piece of line the same size and the line used in the LLK, the same color as the line used to make the inlay in the foot rope knot.Using a self treading needle, start treading the pineapple inlay.Starting at the point shown above.Make sure that you start in the correct crossover position.

Here you will notice that you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper left line is connected to the needle.

Again rotate away you and continue treading the inlay. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again rotate away you and continue treading the inlay. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

This time you are going under two lays of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown.

The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Again you are going under a lay of the orange inlay.Go ahead and continue as shown. The upper line is connected to the needle.

Now you have the completed inlay of the LLK

Now, take the apart the LLK to the single pass throughout.

Top View of the single pass LLK

I am going to show one. all eight are passed the same.Paying carfull attention to the location of how to pass the line, insert a needle in the location shown. The white line pointing straight up is the line that is connected to the needle.(This is very important if you want the Pineapple LLK to look at its very best. This tuck the key to making the top doubled while leaving the sides single white and single orange.)

After the first tuck follow the location of the next tuck. The white line pointing up is the line connected to the needle. After this tuck stop and continue with the remaining lines of the LLK then double pass the top.

After the top is doubled tuck the ends of the white under everything and out.At this point, check the inlay and make sure that all of the inlay strands are being passed correctly. All of the over and under passes of the inlay should be the made the the same direction. If not, now is the time to fix it.

First tighten the orange line. You should tighten each color of line completely at least twice.

After the lines are tightened, cut and hide the ends on the LLK.

Next tighten the foot rope knot by working with the orange first then the white. You should tighten each color of line completely at least twice.

This is the completed Pineapple Little Lump Knot Key Fob.

INSTRUCTİONS FOR THE NEW PİNEAPPLE LLK. First you need the instructions for the LLK from www.knotical-arts.com I have made the instructions based on how I make the LLK.I make them by starting the wall knot counter-clockwise.Then the inlay is put in clock-wise.If you start clock-wise,then put the inlay in counter-clock-wise.

OK, you have completed the LLK to this point. All of the following is for the inlay. All O-U-O-U will be listed for total number cords.

The white dots are only showing the crossovers so that the needle placement is correct.Start by inserting needle in the place shown.

When making this tuck, make sure that you go under all four cords.(Make sure that one of the cords that you are going under is the cord coming from the core.)

Now make the second tuck.

OOO- Under everything to complete inlay.

Completed inlay.

Now take LLK apart to just a single pass.Do not remove inlay.Note where the stands are coming out.

I will show one.But all eight are passed the same. This is where the strands are hidden to make the sides single and the top double.

Hidden tuck completed.

Top before doubling.

Look where the needle is.It will be passed over the the hidden strand but under the top single strand. The second picture is of the same step.It shows to contunue under all strands and out the bottom.

Leave loops so that the next strand tuck can be completed more easily.(I forgot to leave one on the previous picture.)

Completed double up with loops remaining.

Tighten to remove loops only.

Tighten inlay first.I tighten opposite from inserting.I insert the inlay clock-wise,so I tighten counter-clock-wise.

Tighten the single and double of the LLK.I tighten all strands at the same time.

Cut all stands as close as possible. The strand on top has already been tucked and hidden from view.

All stands completly tucked and hidden.(The little bit of yellow seen is from the under-lying part of the inlay. It is normal.)

Completed.

INSTRUCTİONS FOR BRAİDİNG THE MODİFİED RUSSİAN SENNİT

This is my jig for making sennit braids. It is two can openers (Church Keys) laid back to back.A grove is cut on the far side of both just big enough for the plastic straps.

This is a side view of my jig.

On to the sennit.I place 13 of the strands into the jig to flatten them out.No special order at the beginning. After starting, all strands move in sequential order.

Close up of the strands laid flat.

Starting from the right, push two and lift two, push two and lift two, push two and lift two.You will have one strand alone. This will be used in the next step.

Close up of the push two and lift two.

Pull the odd strand thru the push two and lift two.

Close up of the pull thru.

After pulling it thru, lift the strand just pulled thru so that it is close to the 14th strand. The tension is important here. You need to use the same tension every time.If you pull it tight, it will be tight. If you pull it loose, it will be loose.Just as long as you use the same tension every time, it will look very nice.(I used a medium amount of tension for the instructions.)

Close up of the pull up and tension.

Now bring strand 14 up and over the just tensioned strand then slip it into the jig.

Straighten out and even all strands running through the jig. Then give the NEW 14th strand (the one to the right and up) another tension pull. Now you are ready to start over again for the next row.Repeat until the sennit is about 6 inches longer then needed.(The first couple inches are not good enough to use.)

For Synthetic line,I use a old knife heated by a propane torch to "Hot Knife Cut" the sennit.By using this method, the ends self seal themselves.By using the hot knife, you can cut the sennit on a angle that will fit into corners like a picture frame.

HOT KNİFE CUT STEPS: 1-determine size of rope /bell proportions 2-acquire tools 3-strop thimble 4-lay up puddings 5-cover puddings 6-finish covers 7-apply decorations 8-varnishing and preservation 9-hanging rope from clapper

NOTE:This is written with the amateur knotter in mind... for those who have experience already in knotying,I beg your indulgence if I over-stress some of the basics.

As always with ANY of the tutorials,if you feel you can clarify or improve the exposition in any way, please feel free to contact me,especially if you can do better pictures (a groundhog could do better pictures!) than I! If you would like to

take better pictures of the process and send them to me ( a bloody SQUIRREL could take better pictures than I !) I would be delighted to use them in the stead of these.EMAIL ME with any questions or comments you may have. (Incidentally, no financial interest in ANY of the companies or individuals mentioned... although I wish I did...)

Have YOU made something from the bellrope page's instructions? Here's a bellrope by David Considine using the instructions above and after varnishing.Damn nice work! OTHER EXAMPLES of ropes done with the aid of this tutorial (scroll down past David Largent's 69" monster!)

FİADOR K NOTS The knot shown in the figure below is a traditionally tied Fiador Knot.

The topology for tying a traditional Fiador is shown in the figure below.

THE JUGKNOT

SİMPLY CLİCK SPHERİCAL KNOT CALCULATOR The figure below shows how to tie a 5p4b expanded to generate a 24 facet globe knot.

Until I get all of the pages entered and links hooked up the items listed above maybe out of order and have to be accessed sequentially.

ANDEAN BRAİDİNG Below is a sample of 16 strand Andean Up braiding. The loop on the end is 8 strand Andean then the two ends are brought together and the 16 strand Andean is continued.

ODD PART THs the starting point for the expansions will be either the 3pX2b TH or the 3pX4b TH.The diagrams below show the 3pX2b and 3pX4b starting knot topologies as wll as a diagram of how to perform an AB crossover.
