5. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY RU40 WCDMA BTS SW release, WN8.0, introduces support for extension system module for RF sharing configurations. When implementing the FSM capacity addition to a operating RF shared site, some issues need to be taken in account: • WN8.0 0.x releases requires an additional re-commissioning as workaround to overcome a fault in updating of BTS database and losing visibility of 2G ESM on SEM. The problem has been corrected in WN8.0 1.0 release. • Relocating of the 3G system module – 2G system module synchronization cable may be needed in 3G master system module. • Re-commissioning of 3G BTS is required to get system module HW re-allocated to operate in a desired BTS SW configuration. This can be performed either during onsite installation or scheduled for a later maintenance task.

6. DETAILED DESCRIPTION 6.1

Onsite installation phase

RU40 WCDMA BTS SW release, WN8.0, introduces support for extension system module for RF sharing configurations. Adding HW capacity with th e extension module to RF Shared 3G Flexi BTS does not initiate additional operations as such. When the extension FSM has been TS-SRAN-SW-0018 - 3G extension system module insertion in 2G-3G RF sharing - Page 3/7 © Nokia Solutions and Networks 2014 Version 2.0 Confidential

connected and powered, the module will automatically updated to BTS databases and become as available resource as well visible in SEM.

6.1.1

Relocating the 3G system module – 2G system module Synchronization cable may be needed In the previous RU30 BTS SW releases, WN7.0, the optical IF4 (OPT-EXT1) in 3G master FSM was defined for the synchronization and Ethernet connection between the 3G master FSM and the 2G ESM. Now, when the extension m odule is attached to the BTS, the o ptical IF 4 and 5 (OPT-EXT1 and OPT-EXT2) need to be dedicated for the optical RP3-01 link between the 3G system modules, see the Figure 1 below. If the existing cabling is not complying with this, it is needed to relocate the optical cable for 2G-3G synchronization to the optical interface 3 (OPT-RF3) in 3G master FSM.

Figure 1 Optical IF connections with extension s ystem module and RF sharing 6.1.2

In WN8.0 0.x release an additional re-commissioning required to re-appear 2G SM WN8.0 0.x releases requires exceptionally an additional re-commissioning as workaround to overcome a fault in updating of BTS database when a new system module is introduced to RF sharing configuration. The problem causes that after connecting and powering up the 3G extension system module, the 2G system module becomes invisible in 3G SEM and alarms like Baseband bus failure and Increased BER may occur on RP3-01 interface towards the radio module. To update the databases correctly and get the 2G system module visible again, it is needed to perform re-commissioning for 3G BTS. No any action is required on 2G BTS. In recommissioning of 3G BTS no any parameters need to be changed, e.g. re-sending the existing commissioning file or running through the Commissioning W izard without changes is sufficient. The problem is corrected in WN8.0 1.0 release, which enables again that the extension module can be introduced as hot insert installation into an operational BTS without the additional re-commission.

6.2

After onsite installation phase re-allocate of the added extension FSM resourc es in SW configuration

When the extension module is introduced as hot insertion installation into a n operational BTS, depending on the BTS configuration, it is common that the capacity addition provided by extension system module does not become utilized opt imally e.g. the HSPA schedulers are remaining in the master system module and onl y the Rel.99 CE becomes directed to th e new HW capacity provided by the extension module. Thus, it is needed to perform activation of new plan/re-commissioning of BTS for to get the HW allocated to operate in a desired BTS SW configuration e.g. more HSUPA capacity added, sector based pooling introduced, etc. The re-allocation of HW resources can be performed either during onsite installation or scheduled later for the low traffic time or in the parallel with another maintenance task.

7. SOLUTION / INSTRUCTIONS Detailed guidance regarding available s ystem module extension kit extension, HW module installation steps and cable configuration schematics are described in RU40 Operating documents. General working scheme and main steps for adding 3G extension module to the 3G - 2G RF shared NodeB are described below: 1) Install the 3G extension FSM modu le to BTS site. 2) Check the Sync hro nizatio n and Ethern et between the 3G FSM and 2G ESM

The synchronization and Ethernet connection be tween the 3G master system module and the 2G system module that is done with optical connection (Figure1); -

from 3G master FSM optical IF 3 (OPT-RF3) to 2G ESM optical IF 4 (OPT4/EXT)

In case that there is already existing connection but not complying with this, it is required to relocate the connection in 3G FSM (master). Disconnecting the optical cable from the o ptical interface 4 (OPT-RF4) and reconnecting it t o optical interface 3 (OPT-RF3) initiates site reset for the 2G BTS. Before relocating the cable, it is recommended to block the 2G BTS resources to handover the ongoing traffic. 3) Connect the optic al RP3-01 link between master system module and extension module

Two optical connections is required respectively (Figure1); from master FSM optical interface 4 (OPT-EXT1) to extension FSM optical interface 4 (OPT-EXT1) from master FSM optical interface 5 (OPT-EXT2) to extension FSM optical interface 5 (OPT-EXT5)

4) Connect DC power to the inserted 3G Extension module. 5) In WN8.0 0.x releases to perform re-commi ssioni ng for 3G BTS.

After connecting and powering up the 3G extension system module, the 2G system module main remain invisible in 3G SEM. To get the 2G s ystem module visible again, it is needed to perform re-commissioning for 3G BTS. No actions is required for 2G BTS. In re-commissioning of 3G BTS no any parameters need to be changed (unless the step 6 is done at the same), e.g. re-sending the existing commissioning file or running through the Commissioning Wizard without changes is sufficient 6) Re-alloc ate HW resou rces

Re-allocate HW resources by re-commissioning of BTS/plan activation for to get the HW allocated to operate in planned SW configuration. This can be performed either during onsite installation, or scheduled later for the low traffic time or other maintenance task.

8. NOTES 8.1

Relocatin g the 3G SM – 2G SM sync hro nizatio n cable causes reset of 2G BTS

Disconnecting the optical cable from the optical interface 4 (OPT-RF4) and reconnecting it to optical interface 3 (OPT-RF3) in 3G s ystem module initiates site reset for the 2G BTS. Before relocating the cable, it is recommended to block the 2 BTS resources to handover the ongoing traffic. The 3G BTS and the shared Radio modules remain operational during the reset of 2G BTS.
