JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Translator [Six positions available] Commitment: Minimum 4 hours/week, part time, volunteer position. Job Description: The Paradigm Shift Project (PSP) is looking for skilled translators in Spanish, French, Hindi, and Khmer to help prepare film subtitles, interview transcripts, and educational materials. If you are fluent in both English and one or more of these languages, have good writing skills, and value the opportunity to contribute to the success of an organization, this may be the perfect volunteer position for you. Specific Responsibilities: In close communication and collaboration with the Executive Director, translators will undertake a number of duties relevant to their language skills, including but not limited to: • Translating English Educator’s Toolkits, film summaries, and other PSP promotional materials (brochures, flyers, etc.) into French and Spanish text • Translating English subtitles into French and Spanish for PSP’s films • Transcribing and translating spoken Hindi, Thai, and Khmer interviews into English text for film subtitles • Translating English film summaries and PSP brochures into Hindi, Thai, and Khmer text • Copy editing written documents for accuracy and readability • Maintain clear and consistent communication with PSP staff on all related matters Qualifications: • Fluent writing, reading, and oral skills in English and the relevant language • 1-3 years experience desired, but not necessary • Solid knowledge of computer software including Word • Excellent writing and comprehension skills • Must be able to exercise judgment and work independently taking initiative as need be • Must be able to be in close contact with PSP staff via phone, Skype, and/or email • Team player with a passion for contributing to the work of The Paradigm Shift Project Other Information: This is a part-time volunteer position. Most work can be completed from home with email correspondence, but occasional meetings will be required with our Development Officer and/or Executive Director via Skype/phone. Additionally, volunteers will be required to promote and attend semiannual fundraising events where possible.
