West Visayas State University Lambunao Campus, Lambunao, Iloilo, Philippines. November 2022. Abstract This tracer study employed the descriptive survey research design. This study aims to trace the Senior High School Graduates of Bingawan National High School Batch 20182019. Specifically, it sought to determine their profile in terms of sex, civil status, SHS track and strand and employment of Senior High School Graduates. Using random sampling, the respondents of this study were the thirty respondents took part in this study. Of this total, fifteen (15) or fifty percent (50%) were female and fifteen (15) or fifty percent (50%) were male. The researchers made the survey questionnaire modifications to the survey questionnaire were made to suit this study. Frequency distribution method used to analyze and interpret the data. Majority of the respondents are currently proceed to college . Most of them have strong passion for the profession. Among the employed, majority of them have special occupation. This quantitative research employed the descriptive survey research design. Descriptive research aims to accurately and systematically describe a population, situation or phenomenon. In a tracer study, data is collected and analysed repeatedly over time. For monitoring and evaluation purposes, tracer studies are often designed to track changes at individual

level, following a development intervention. However, they might also focus on other units of analysis such as communities, organizations or policies. Tracer studies are most useful when change is intended to be long-term and significant. Tracer studies provide information that is valuable for all these actors; and this helps to inspire education, training and employment policies, curricula of education and training courses, guidance to help individuals decide on their education or training paths, and clearer judgements about (re)- skilling the labour force. This study aims to trace the graduates of Bingawan National Senior High School, in Bingawan, Iloilo, Philippines. Specifically, it sought to determine their profile in terms of gender, age and to evaluate their employment status and as graduates. Using random sampling, the respondents of this study were the thirty (30) random graduates. Fifteen (15) Boys and Fifteen (15) Girls of Bingawan Senior High School - Bingawan Iloilo in the year 2018-2019. Nine days upon the approval of the research title. Background of the Study Education in the Philippines contributes great possibility that all must have the courage to cope up in the challenges being faced. Having a diverse educational system helps to identify the different capabilities of individual to be productive in the future as a part of manpower in society. People must know what really the importance of education in every aspects either socially or economically. Department of Education (2010) with regards to adding the 2 years education in high school discussed that through this, every graduate must be fully equipped as they step to find work and to start entrepreneurial endeavor. Education and training systems have a key role to play in ensuring that opportunities are provided for all individuals to develop their skills continually in a lifelong learning perspective, enabling them to adapt to rapidly changing labour market requirements and conditions. Training and labour market policy makers decide on the configuration of education and training systems, employment policies and investments. Training institutions decide on the type and content of the training courses to be

delivered. Individuals and their families decide on their own education and training, while employers take decisions on how to enhance the skills of their workers. Tracer studies provide information that is valuable for all these actors; and this helps to inspire education, training and employment policies, curricula of education and training courses, guidance to help individuals decide on their education or training paths, and clearer judgements about (re)- skilling the labour force. Tracer studies are common research methods for educational institutions to check on the employability of their graduates (de Ocampo, Bagano, & Tan, 2012). Likewise, Rogan and Reynolds (2016) asserted that a Graduate Tracer Study (GTS) is useful for policy and equity implication in higher education. They have suggested that policies should not just focus on providing interventions for the school but also by concentrating closely on university students from the poorly resourced schools and at the earliest stage of their studies. They also argued that instead of confronting study choices to address graduate unemployment, Meanwhile, tracer study as a research strategy stresses that education mismatches appear to capture different aspects of the accuracy of the jobworker pairing, and therefore, have separate consequences for workers (both in monetary and non-monetary terms). Skill mismatches are recognized by employees as a serious relevant issue than education mismatches (Aure, et al., 2019).

R.A. 7722 mandates the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to “monitor the performance of the programs and institutions of higher learning”. One way to do this is to conduct a graduate tracer study looking at the employability and destinations of the graduates. In addition, one of the documents needed in accreditation is tracer study. Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc. Data generated from a tracer study could re-evaluate the factors affecting and contributing to the status of the employment of graduates. Based on extant literature, the majority of graduates landed on local jobs, particularly in the government sector (Aure et al., 2019). Tracer studies can be defined as retrospective analyses of graduates through a standardized survey, which takes place sometime after graduation (normally between 6 months and 3 years). Tracer studies are also known as graduate surveys, alumni surveys, or graduate tracking. Normally, the target population is a homogenous group of students / trainees who finished their studies at the same time (generation or

WEST VISAYAS STATE UNIVERSITY LAMBUNAO CAMPUS

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION LAMBUNAO, ILOILO

graduation cohort). Tracer studies are common in higher education, but are becoming more and more popular in vocational education. The general objective is to evaluate medium to long-term impact of education programmes. More concrete objectives include improving the education and training content and study conditions, improving the transition of graduates from education to the labour market, and to better matching the supply of skills with the demand for them. Tracer study questionnaire topics can vary considerably, but often include questions on study progress, the transition to work, work entrance, career, use of learned competencies, current occupation and bonds to the education institution. Tracer studies can give very important information about skills matching through the combination of objective and subjective data from the graduates. Apart from being able to measure the employability of graduates, and obtain feedback to improve the study programme, tracer studies allow aspects of horizontal matching (relevance of field of study for the tasks done in the job) and vertical matching (appropriate position regarding the level of formal qualification) to be measured. Tracer studies are flexible tools that allow the combination of a core questionnaire, where key elements are systematically asked, with ad hoc modules that allow information on aspects that are important at one point in time, or that are important for concrete institutions (or fields of study) to be gathered. The table show

some of the modules with the minimum number of questions that could shape a tracer study. Senior High School (SHS) refers to Grades 11 and 12, the last two years of the K to 12 program that DepEd has been implementing since 2012. Students begin to study in SHS the subjects that will introduce them to their preferred career path. High school in the old system consisted of First Year to Fourth Year. What corresponds to those four years today are Grades 7 to 10, also known as junior high school (JHS). Under Republic Act No. 10533 (Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013), you will have to complete Kindergarten, Grades 1 to 6 (elementary), Grades 7 to 10 (Junior High School) and Grades 11 to 12 (Senior High School) in all 13 years before you can receive a high school diploma. Students who belong to the K to12 generation but do not complete Grade 12 will be disadvantaged in that they will not be accepted into a college degree or technical-vocational certificate program without a SHS diploma. They will also miss out on an opportunity to learn skills that can qualify them for employment right after SHS, or prepare them for starting up a business. The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School (SHS) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop

Statement of the Problem This study aimed to track the necessary data pertaining to the Senior Graduates of Bingawan National High School from S.Y 2018-2019. Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions:

WEST VISAYAS STATE UNIVERSITY LAMBUNAO CAMPUS

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION LAMBUNAO, ILOILO

1. What is the general profile of the respondents in terms of sex, civil status and SHS track and strand? 2. What are the reasons of the respondents for taking their course (those who proceeded to college)? 3. What is the employment profile of the respondents in terms of present employment status, present occupation/job and reasons for unemployment (if unemployed)?

Hypothesis 1. The profiles of the respondents are the Senior High School Graduates and it is based on the sex, civil status, SHS track and strand and employment. 2. There is a significant difference in A Tracer Study of Senior High School Graduates. Definition of Terms For clarification and precision, the following are the conceptual and operational meanings: Tracer Study - Tracer study is as an assessment tool where the impact on target groups is traced back to specific elements of a project or program so that effective and ineffective project components may be defined (ILO Thesaurus, 2005).

In this study tracer, tracer study was used to determine the number of senior high school graduates who proceed to college, employed and unemployed. Senior High School – a secondary school level typically comprising the three highest grades. In this study Senior High School referred as respondents by the researchers. Graduates – a person who has a successfully completed a course of study or training, especially a person who has been awarded an undergraduate academic degree (Oxford Dictionary) In this study, graduates referred as the dependent variable that have a factor on A Tracer Study of Senior High School graduates. Delimitation of the Study The purpose of this research was limited on the Senior High School graduates that talked about their chosen career after they graduated Senior High School (SHS). Random sampling was used to collect data from potential respondents drawn from the total population of Senior High School graduates. The research was conducted using a questionnaire which was distributed to selected Senior High School Graduates in a form of a survey. This study used the descriptive research method employing a researchersmade questionnaire as a data gathering instrument. The researchers designed a survey

questionnaire for data gathering instrument. Thirty Senior High School Graduates of Bingawan National High School batch 2018-2019 served as the respondents of the study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

Significance of the Study The researcher was undertaken with the hope that the results would be beneficial to the following. Senior High School Graduates - To equip themselves into another journey of their lives as they explore their chosen career Teachers –This study assists teachers in becoming more vocal about the chosen career of Senior High School Graduates as they transitioned to their next chapter of their studies Parents - They will become aware of their children about their chosen career and guide their children.

Future Researchers – Result of the study may serve as guide and basis of the future researchers who wish to study more about A Tracer Study of Senior High School graduates.

Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature This chapter presents the related literatures for clearer understanding of the readers. Related Literature Senior High School The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop

lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. Each student in Senior High School can choose among three tracks: Academic; Technical-Vocational-Livelihood; and Sports and Arts. The Academic track includes three strands: Accountancy, Business Management (ABM); Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS); and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM). Students undergo immersion, which may Include earn-while-you-learn opportunities, to provide them relevant exposure and actual experience in their chosen track. The senior high school curriculum was found to be very useful significant in preparing the graduates for the exits. However, it is noteworthy to address that none of the graduates pursued entrepreneurship, and only one pursued middle skills development. It is recommended that programs and instructions be more adaptive to student's needs. Continued tracking of alumni for at least three consecutive years is also suggested to be conducted in the school and in other schools in order to be able to gather more concrete evidence with regards to the effectivity of the K-12 curriculum in achieving its goals. According to Official Gazette (2012), Senior High School is two years of specialized upper secondary education; students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school capacity. The choice of career track will define the

content of the subjects a student will take in Grades 11 and 12. SHS subjects fall under either the Core Curriculum or specific Tracks. Republic Act 10533, the K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School (SHS)) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. Senior High School (SHS) covers the last two years of the K to 12 program and includes Grades 11 and 12. In SHS, students will go through a core curriculum and subjects under a track of their choice (http://k12philippines.com/, n.d).  Filipinos are known to be competitive in the international community. However, our current education system hinders us from becoming even more competitive. Starting in the 2012-2013 school year, the education system of the Philippines was enhanced from the ten years of basic education to a 12-year program through an initiative called the K-12 Education Plan sponsored by the Department of Education (HubPages Inc. 2016). The K-12 program offers a decongested 12-year program that gives students sufficient time to master skills and absorb basic competencies. The K-12 program accelerates mutual recognition of Filipino graduates and professionals in other countries (K-12 Philippines, 2015) The academic year 2016-2017 is a big turning point in Philippine Education system since a vast makeover will happen. The new curriculum which is known as K to 12 Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum, under the newly signed K to 12 Basic Education Program Law.

In 2011, the Department of Education (DepEd) administered a shift to a fresh learning scheme — the K to 12 basic education program. Many people were resistant to the new education system. Despite this, the government is keen on revolutionizing the Philippine education. Related Studies Waugh 2013 cited, high standard of living, is an important part of culture and values. The education system has a significant and direct impact on the quality of our workforce our economic productivity and ultimately, our ability to prosper as businesses, as people, and as a nation rely on our public schools to provide highly skilled and educated talent. K to 12 is a solution to create opportunities that will help all children from the time they enter the classroom to when they join the workforce - McCleary. (2012) Republic Act K to 12 which is known as ―Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 or K to 12 Basic Education Program Law states that the graduate of basic education shall be an empowered individual who has learned, through a program that is rooted on soundeducational principles and geared towards excellence, the foundations for learnin g throughout life, thecompetence to engage in work and be productive, the ability to coexist in fruitful harmony with local and global communities, the capability to engage

Senior High School (SHS) will officially be implemented nationwide starting with

Grade 11 in SY 2016-2017 and Grade 12 in SY 2017-2018. The additional 2 years Senior High School is specialized upper-secondary education composed of a common Core Curriculum and Tracks. There are 8 core curricula or learning areas that include Language, Humanities, Communication, Mathematics, Philosophy, Science, Social Science and Physical Education and Health and 4tracks which include (1) Academic, (2) Technical-Vocational-Livelihood, and (3) Sports and Arts (4) General Education or Liberal Arts. Each track will have strands, which is also known as specializations within a track. Chapter 3 Research Design and Methodology Chapter 3 consist of two parts: (1) Research design, (2) Methods Part One, Research design describes the research design. Part Two, Methods describes the respondents, instruments, data collection procedure and statistical analysis procedure.

The following are: 1. The University must consistently commit itself to conducting regular tracer studies on the employment status of the Senior High School graduates. 2. Strengthen the curriculum by adding elective subjects that will teach students skill and expose them to other opportunities whenever a change of heart strikes the graduate and not pursue any job related to his degree 3. The Deans office, Guidance office and the Alumni Affairs should consolidate their effort to track Senior High School graduates and assess their need especially those have problems finding jobs related to their degree since employability of graduates affects the record of the institution.
