Post by Elminster Aumar on Dec 26, 2008, 7:46pm Tombstone was founded in 1877 by a prospector named Ed Schieffelin. Ed was staying at what was then called Camp Huachuca (wa-chu-ka) as part of a scouting expedition against the Chiricahua (chir-i-cow-uh) Apaches. During his time there he would venture out into the wilderness "looking for rocks", all the while ignoring the warnings he received from the soldiers at the camp. They would tell him, "Ed, the only stone you will find out there will be your tombstone". Well, Ed did find his stone, and it was Ghostrock. So, remembering the words of warning from the soldiers, he named his first mine The Tombstone. It wasn't long before word spread about Ed's strike. Soon prospectors, cowboys, homesteaders, lawyers, speculators, gunmen and business people flocked to the area in droves. In 1879 a town site was laid out on the nearest level spot to the mines, known at that time as Goose Flats, and appropriately named "Tombstone" after Ed Schieffelin's first mining claim.
Points of interest: Schieffelin Hall
This is where the "respectable" people in town go for entertainment. It opened in June of 1881. It was built for the people of Tombstone by Ed Schieffelin's Brother Al.

This place is another story. It is a saloon, theatre, gambling hall and brothel. No self-respecting woman in town will even walk on the same side of the street as the Bird Cage . It opened its doors on Christmas Day 1881 and runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Earlier this year, The New York Times reported, "The Bird Cage Theatre is the wildest, wickedest night spot between Basin Street and the Barbary Coast." The Bird Cage is named for the cage style crib compartments suspended from the ceiling. It is in these "Bird Cages" that the "ladies of the evening" entertain their customers.
The Rose Tree Inn
One of the first adobe buildings constructed in Tombstone, it was built by A.C. and Alice Robertson in 1880 for the use of offices and a boarding house for the Vizina Mining Company.

The Epitaph published its first edition on May 1, 1880. The newspaper was founded by John Philip Clum, a former Indian agent and Tombstone's first mayor. Clum was living in Tucson, Arizona and publishing a newspaper, the Tucson Citizen, when word began to spread about the discovery of Ghostrock in Tombstone. Clum decided that Tombstone was a favorable location for a new journalism venture. Clum had a Washington Hand Press, originally shipped by boat from New York to San Francisco and used for printing various gold mining boomtown newspapers, shipped from San Diego to Tucson by rail transport. The press was transported from Tucson to Tombstone by oxcart. Clum named his new publication the Epitaph as a rebuff to associates who predicted the newspaper's early demise.
Town Marshal's Office
This is where the "law" of Tombstone resides, such as it is. The first Marshal, Fred white met his demise at the hands of "Curly" William B. Brocious in a vacant lot where the Birdcage Theater now stands. Brocious was drunk and he (or his companions) were firing pistols into the air. White instructed Brocious to surrender his pistol, which Brocious did, handing it barrel first to White. Although no one is completely certain, apparently the pistol's hammer was "half-cocked" back over a live round (it contained six live rounds), and when White grabbed the barrel and pulled, the weapon discharged, shooting White in the groin. Brocious was arrested by Wyatt Earp and his brother Morgan, who were working as Pima County sheriff's deputies at the time. Wyatt pistol whipped Brocious during the arrest. The current marshal is Virgil Earp, who is also the Deputy C.S. Marshal for the region. Tombstone attracts it's share of vagrants, fortune hunters, outlaws, and ne'er-do-wells, as well as legitimate citizens; why are you here? Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by dungeoneer on Jan 2, 2009, 10:03pm Brett comes walking into town, looks around, sees The Bird Cage, smiles, Maybe later he thinks to himself. Walks farther, sees the Shiefflin Hall, walks in. looks around, tips his hat to any Lady who he catches looking at him. Anyone looking for someone to do an honest days work for them? A lone man rides into town from the south. He's dressed in fine work clothes of European design, but wears a hat that resembles the more familiar cowboy hats, as well as a pair of cowboy boots. His black horse seems to know where its going without direction from his rider. He pulls up at a house on the corner of Second and Allen streets, tethers the horse in the back and enters.
Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by cpanthersfan on Jan 3, 2009, 3:10pm A lone male comes walking into town wearing dusters, boots, cowboy hat and a gunbelt containing two pistols. He carries a backpack with a rifle on it as well. He goes toward the town marshall's office but doesn't go inside. He is looking on the outside apparently looking for wanted posters. Starting Post Post by emishi on Jan 3, 2009, 8:20pm Arriving at Bayou Vermilion Railway's Tomestone Station, at what the railroad considers high noon, Major Beauregard Laurent rises from his seat, after allowing the other passengers to disembark first. Grabbing his valise and rifle, the Confederate officer palms his cane, rises from his seat and makes his way to the rear of the coach. Favoring his left leg, the Major gingerly descends the stairs to the platform and makes his way to the station master. "Good day, sir. I've a trunk, horse and mule to be retrieved from your train." Pulling a two and a half dollar gold 'Liberty' coin from his vest pocket, he slides it across the counter to the man. "If you would be so kind as to have the animals stabled and the chest carried to your best hotel or boarding house, it would be much appreciated by a war-wearied veteran." "I also could use some directions to said establishments, as well as, the Marshal's office, assayer's and army recruitment office." The officer takes pen and paper to hand to draw a rough map as the station master relays the information. Arrangements having been made to keep the excess weight from inflaming his leg, Beau turns and slowly makes his way deeper into the town, following his map, acquainting himself with the layout of Tomestone. When Brett asks about a job the man behind the bar spits a mouthful of tobacco spit, hopefully, into a spittoon behind the bar and says, " Naw, aint got no jobs here, yah might check one of the ghostrock mines or, if'n yah aint too keen on hard work, someone jus' came and put up that thar poster over yonder." On his way into the house Alekzander notices this poster hanging from a lamp post. The picture is of a local widow woman who often did housekeeping and took in laundry for the more "affluent" residents of Tombstone. Outside of the usual type of wanted poster for criminals scattered all across Arizona territory Dante sees a poster apparently hung by the local newspaper. Heading towards the boarding house he was planning to stay at the Major notices the above sign hanging in a dry goods store window.

After dropping his things off at home, Alek heads over to the paper office to see what's up with the widow.
SaskatoonSaskatoon Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by emishi on Jan 10, 2009, 6:15pm Moving stiffly along, his left leg slowly awakening from the inactivity of the long train ride, the Confederate Major limps his way along the streets of Tomestone, noting the location of pertinent businesses for future reference and nodding gentlemanly greetings to the citizens whom cross his path. Passing by the livery noted in his directions, Beau enters and greets the owner... checking on his animals and paying the upkeep fees for the next week. Finishing his business there, the Major continues onward to the boarding house, where he takes a room and pays for a week's stay. Moving his items to his room, Beau takes a bit of time to unpack his valise, clean up a bit and settle in before continuing his tour of the town. As the Major strolls along, he takes note of more than a few missing person notices and since he's settled most of his more pressing needs, he decides to locate the Epitaph and inquire about the situation. You all arrive at the newspaper at about the same time. As you open the door a bell rings, alerting the proprietor of your entrance. you see a man at the back of the shop cussing what must be a press. When he hears you enter he turns around and says, " can I help y'all ?" Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by emishi on Jan 11, 2009, 12:07pm "Well sir, I don't know about these other fine gentleman, " indicating they're unknown to him, "But I'm here to inquire about the numerous posters I've seen hanging about the town... I'm speaking of the one with the widow-woman gone missing." "My name is Beauregard Laurent, Major CSA, late of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and these are my credentials," holding forth his military identity papers. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by cybersavant on Jan 11, 2009, 11:21pm Alekzander Derrick "Hallo. i'm Alekzander Derrick. I just returned home to Tombstone and saw deese notice. I know the vidow."
Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by cpanthersfan on Jan 12, 2009, 12:11am The lone drifter speaks up, "Naw. I'm just here to make some money for a bit. Saw these posters. Reckon I'm here to earn that money. Yes sir. Aw, I'm Dante. Just call me Dante. Howdy to you all." He sets down his backpack to give his arm and shoulder a rest. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by Elminster Aumar on Jan 12, 2009, 12:11am "You must be talkin' bout the ones of the wida' lewis", the man responded. "Her sister came in here yesterday. Said her boy had come over to the house sayin' his ma hadn't been home in bout two days. She'd looked all over town but there was nary a sign of her anywhere. She came in here offerin' her last dollar for me to print some posters for her. Everyone knows though that the family is poor as Nevada dirt so I just told her ta bring me a picture of some sort, if she had one, and I'd make the signs for free. It just seemed the neighborly thing ta do." Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by cpanthersfan on Jan 12, 2009, 12:14am Dante responds, "Aw. That's mighty nice of you. Yes sir." Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by dungeoneer on Jan 12, 2009, 4:06pm Brett smiles, tips his hat to the Man. That was a nice thing to do for the family. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by cpanthersfan on Jan 12, 2009, 5:54pm Dante responds to Brett, "Aw, I don't know. I'm kinda used to working alone, but I reckon it'll speed things along. Locating a missing person is tricky. Yes sir." Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by emishi on Jan 12, 2009, 8:45pm Stowing his credentials back in his wallet, the Major nods to each of the gentlemen, standing with him, as they introduce themselves and state their reasons of interest. "Well, kind Sirs," he addresses the three interested men, "It's my intentions to do everything within my power to lend assistance to the ladies in question. As for the reward, well as far as I'm concerned, that's a moot point... that is, as long you defray any of my expenses a bit, you three are welcomed to split the majority of the money." Post by emishi on Jan 15, 2009, 9:51pm "Well Brett, perhaps we should question the sister first. She may have other pertinent information that she may not even be unaware of. Something she and the widow may have talked about in passing." The Major scratches his chin in thought, "Likewise, the son. He may have overheard something during his mother's gossip." Planning a line of action, he continues, "Then I suggest we retrace the route from the widow's home to her employer, looking for anything suspicious, questioning any shopkeepers along the route. Then we visit her employer and speak with anyone she may gossip with at her work." Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by bookwormsub on Jan 16, 2009, 7:25pm A woman dressed in buckskin rides into town on a brown and white pinto. She is darkly tanned - obviously she spends much time outside. There is a pistol on her hip and a rifle in the saddle holster. Her auburn hair was tied back in a simple ponytail. She rode slowly, not in any great hurry, and finally arrived at the Tombstone Epitaph. She left her horse by the hitching post and walked inside just in time to hear the others talking about the missing woman. She closes the door and leans against the wall, listening. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by emishi on Feb 8, 2009, 11:41am Leaning over, the Major grabs the drunk by the scruff of the neck and slowly drags him back to the wooden walkway. "Help me get this gentleman back inside and out of the sun," he says to the others. Stiffly kneeling down over the unconcious form, Beau quickly and efficiently removes any weapons the man may possess, then rises and enters the establishment... walking directly to the bar. "Barkeep," the Major says, to gain his attention. "Keep these under wraps until our friend there awakens from his slumber," motioning over his shoulder to the drunk being unceremoniously dropped in a chair, as he slides any weaponry across the bar. Pulling a two dollar gold piece from his vest pocket, he slides it across the bar. "For your troubles Sir." Beau nods his thanks and head back outside. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Brett arrives at the Birdcage. In the balcony he sees " ladies" of the night plying their trade. On the floor are several games of chance going on. the stage is occupied by dancing girls and the bar seems to be open.
The rest of the group arrive at what seems to be a run down, but clean home. You check the directions given to you at the Epitaph and this is your destination. There is a boy of about 7 playing in the yard. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by dungeoneer on Feb 9, 2009, 2:46am Brett gets a brief smile on his face as he looks around the place, "I knew I made the right choice coming here. I could get to likin this town." Post by bookwormsub on Feb 9, 2009, 3:29am Susan smiles as she sees the boy playing. "Ah. The innocence of children." She walks up but is careful to not scare the boy, "Excuse me son. Post by bookwormsub on Feb 10, 2009, 3:26am Susan smiles, "Yes, please." She watches as the boy runs into the house. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by dungeoneer on Feb 10, 2009, 7:43pm Brett pulls out a quarter, lays it on the bar. Might be here awhile, keep em comin. looks around, turns back to the Bartender. You ever get any Woman coming in here, not the working girls, maybe to gamble, or, in the company of a Man? Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by Elminster Aumar on Feb 10, 2009, 11:34pm The bar tender looks up at Brett, "This ain't the kind of place what attracts respectable women, if you know what I mean. Now their husbands, that there is a diffrent matter altogether" he says with a wink.
The boy goes running into the house yelling at the top of his lungs, " Auntie Margarite, There's some strangers here want ta' see ya'." Eventually a rather homely looking woman comes to the door. She is wearing a checkered dress and a white apron. Her graying hair is up in a bun, but it has come loose She looks to be in her late 40's or early 50's. " What can I do fer ya'", she says. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by emishi on Feb 13, 2009, 8:24am "And a good day to you ma'am," Beau says, bowing slightly and tipping his hat. "I believe it's the other way around... what we can do for you," he states good-naturally. "These fine folk and myself have taken up the investigation and intend to search for your missing sister," he informs the lady. With a sudden thought, the officer looks momentarily askance. Shaking his head and grinning a bit sheepishly, the Major corrects his oversight with his best southern drawl. "My, my. Where are my manners. It seems introductions are in order. My name is Beauregard Laurent," he says, sweeping his hat off his head in a grand bow. Then turning to introduce his companions with a flourish of his hat, he continues in turn. "This fine gentleman here is Alekzander Derrick. The young buckskin-clad lady there is Miss Susan. And this grim gentleman here goes by the moniker Dante." He mocks a bit of a conspiratorial whisper to break the ice and says, "I apologize for the incomplete introductions, but it seems they haven't entrusted me with their surnames as yet. " Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by cpanthersfan on Feb 13, 2009, 9:01am Dante tips his hat at the middle-aged lady and stands by for now. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by Elminster Aumar on Feb 14, 2009, 1:07am The woman looks the Major up and and down then says," Come on in." Then begins to brush the entire company inside. Inside the house is like the outside, worn but clean. There are two old rocking chairs and a tattered davenport in the front room of the house, as well as an old cofee table. The woman scoots the child outside saying, " Joey, run along outside and play, us grownups need ta' talk." Then looking at the group she says, " Have a seat, please. The thing sold like hotcakes here, every miner in town wanted one, and The Professor made out like a bandit. He built that fancy house outside o' town and married a local girl. His detector had a problem with it though, I guess it was a problem at least. It couldn' tell the difference between Ghost Rock ore an' Ghost Rock dust or gas. So, long about a year ago, a group of miners, one of them the wida's husband, find what they think is a major Gost rock vein in one of the local mines begin diggin' into it. Turned out that it was nothing but a pocket of dust but the miner's hackin' into the thing set off an explosion causing a cave in. Well, when he got outta that mine he was so het up that he grabbed up a six shooter and went after The Professor to shoot him. He found him too, but, The Professor's wife got in the way of the bullet and was killed instead. The Professor, staring down at his wife's body, didn' say a thing. Post by Elminster Aumar on May 25, 2009, 10:54pm OK, to move this on I'm gonna use the GM gimme privilege and say Alekzander eventually struggles his way over the fence, since the die roller doesn't seem to want to let him. entrance into the house.
Once everyone is in the yard you spot what looks like a kitchen
Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by bookwormsub on May 26, 2009, 5:17am "Well, lets see if it's unlocked. I certainly hope so." Susan walks over and tries to open the door. She will do so carefully first just trying to knob, waiting a moment, then slowly opening the door, peeking inside once the door is barely open then she will continue to slowly open the door - unless there is something on the other side. Susan walks up on the back porch(13), ( yes I forgot that little detail ), and gently opens the door. As soon as she does, the stench of death hits her nostrils. Peering inside the crack she has made she sees she is looking into an alcove, ( the extreme eastern end of 17), with a door across it from her. She hears the buzzing of flies coming from the main part of the room. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by bookwormsub on May 28, 2009, 1:50am Susan quickly jerks her head away from the opening and covers her mouth and nose. "I think someone is dead inside," she says through her hand. She will then draw her own gun again and go inside the house - still covering her nose & mouth. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by dungeoneer on May 28, 2009, 9:10pm Brett frowns, covers his mouth and nose by tying a handkerchief around his neck and pulling it up, draws his gun, follows Susan inside. Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West. Post by Elminster Aumar on May 29, 2009, 1:24am When Brett and Susan make their way into the kitchen proper the smell grows stronger, as does the buzzing of the flies. Seated at the kitchen table they see two children, or at least what once must have been two children, their flesh rotting from their bones, flies surrounding them. The children seem to be involved in a card game. They hear one of the children say, "King of Hearts ?". The other one replies, " Go fish." They are seated one facing away from you, one facing towards you. Upon seeing you, the one seated facing you says, " Food !", and jumps up from the table. The smell of the rotting flesh is so strong it is making you sick. ( Fort save ) Re: Tombstone: A Tale of the Weird West.
