If “ Magical Pleasantries ” give you any ideas to work on, then I will be amply rewarded. Yours Magically, T

of th e w ay across there is stretched a piece of elastic, pressure w ith th e finger releases one ball at a tim e. A C IG A R E T T E D R O P P E R . I once had a cigarette dropper, it w eighed about a pound and w as as thick as a dictionary, and worked som etim es. . This idea is, a long tub e, th e circum ference being a little larger than th a t of a cigarette. A t one end of th e tub e attach five or six threads, to th e other ends attach pins, one pin to each thread. T he threads hanging inside th e tub e and of such a length, th a t w hen a cigarette is attached to th e pin on the thread,

the cigarette w ill be three parts out of th e tub e. To th e top end of th e tub e on th e outside is affixed a spike or safety pin, so th a t it can be attached to. th e coat on th e inside. To load th e tube, take one of th e threads, attach a cigarette to sam e and drop it inside th e tube. D o the sam e w ith th e rem aining cigarettes, it w ill be seen th at only one cigarette w ill oom e to th e bottom of th e tub e as th is cigarette k eeps th e rest from falling down, until .it is taken off the pin. 25

C OLO UR C H A N G E T H R O U G H F IS T F A K E . Robertson K eene once explained a very good tr ic k ; th a t of passing a silk liankerchief through the fist, it changing colour in th e transit. The only difficulty w as th at after the silk w as in th e tube there w as not m uch room to insert th e finger. The idea being th a t th e silk w as poked into th e tube w ith the forefinger, on th e second last poke, th e m iddle finger w as in serted and th e tub e w as carried aw ay on this, th e final poke being w ith th e forefinger, then the silk entirely drawn from the fist and shown both sides.

M y idea is this, instead of having a single colour change tub e you have tw o tubes, about tw o in ch es long. T hey are soldered together at th e sides and one end of them closed on one tub e only. In th e open tub e place th e silk th a t changes co lo u r; g et th e fake into the left fist, you know how, w ith th e closed tube at th e bottom . Take th e other silk and push it into th e closed tu b e, w hen half w ay in pull th e other one into view from th e open tub e and from below th e fist. P oke again and get th e silk clear from th e open tube and keep it from falling by gripping w ith the little finger. N ow push m iddle finger into th e tube and carry som e aw ay into th e right hand, give a final poke w ith th e forefinger and show silk both sides. The m oves for this trick are not m ine, th ey were evolved by Mr. K een e m any years ago, to w hom full credit is due. I t is only th e fake for perform ing this effect for w hich I claim any originality. 26

Neat, practical ad easy, this effect is just the thing to put a touch of novelty into any programme. A piece of thin cord is examined and passed twice round the centre of a stick. The ends are held by members of the audience yet tho cord comes away free from the stick on the command of the performer, and may be again examined. No complicated tw ists or faked cords. No clumsy methods that work sometimes but not always. J ust a neat and clever idea th a t you can work successfully as soon as you receive the apparatus. Useful in innumerable tricks and needs no skill. Price 10/T H E D E M O N A L A R M C L O C K S F R O M H A T.

In this new method six alarm clocks are produced from a borrowed hat and unlike the old method, every clock produced is ringing loudly as it is taken from the hat. The din produced by the six clocks ringing furiously together, makes this one of the biggest hits on any programme it is possible to have. Beautifully made and ju st as easy as the old way. If you want to be up to date you must have this. I t will wake up the most blase audience. Used a t the I B.M. Convention by Gilly-Gilly. The latest thing in hat loads. A realistic loaf o f bread of the long French type is produced from a borrowed hat. The loaf is far too long to be got into the hat and cannot be distinguished from a genuine loaf a t quite close quarters. With this fine production article we supply full instructions for loading that enable the production to be made easily, cleanly and without fumbling.
