“THAT’S NO MOON.” It’s Star Wars Day everybody! And look what I created t his past week: Crochet Death Star Cushion!

It was Jason who suggested I make a Death Star cushion and I eagerly accepte the challenge.

The first several attempts at making this crochet space station were frustrating because I couldn’t get the right spherical shape. This is where the internet (as usual) saved me from pulling out my hair. I found this r eally awesome sphere pattern calculator and all I did was enter the circumference in stitches (96) and it came up with a pattern for an ideal sphere. The only difficult part was countin and making sure I had the right number of stitches per round because the formula isn’t like your usual increase every x number of stitches by y number of times. So for this project I followed the calculated pattern and then added slip stitches made single crochet stitches to the back loops of the middle rounds to create the trench.

Pattern PDF is now available for purchase in the shop or shop  or you can find the patter  below. May the 4th be with you!

*Update* The pattern has been adjusted as I received quite a few questions about what the numbers in the pattern mean. I have also (hopefully) cleared u any confusion on how to start the first round in the Death Star and the super  laser. But if there’s still anything that is unclear please send me an email [email protected] *Another Update* I’ve made a video that explains the first couple of rounds, ho to make the trench, and how to make the surface stitches. Check out the youtube video here.

Size: Approx 24-27” circumference

Materials: -Size 4.50mm and 3.50mm hooks -Worsted yarn in grey, 1 7oz/426yd skein and small amount of lighter grey. I’m using Bernat – True Grey for sphere and Soft Grey for surface stitches. -Fibrefill for stuffing, approx. 5-6oz -Yarn needle for surface stitches.

Notes:  Numbers in pattern represent number of single crochet stitches to make. Example: Round 4: 2sc, inc, 3sc, inc, 2sc, inc, 3sc, inc, 2sc, inc (22 sts) Translates to: Round 4: sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, inc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, inc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st (22

sts) Unless otherwise stated, this pattern is worked in continuous rounds using stitch markers to locate the beginning/end of a round. Sizes will vary depending on stitch tension and how much stuffing is u sed.

Stitches Used Ch – chain Sc – single crochet Inc – increase (2sc in same stitch) Inc3 – 3sc increase (3sc in same stitch) Dec – decrease (sc2tog) Dec3 – 3sc decrease (sc3tog) BLO – back loop only Dc – double crochet Sl st – slip stitch
