This book contains blessings and amulets which bring you luck wherever you may be.

Please note that the information and advice presented in this book fall solely within the scope of personal knowledge and advice, based on the wide and long-standing experience I have gained over many years. This advice is not a substitute for medical treatment or mental care, or any other treatment. I do not take any responsibility whatsoever for the results of carrying out my advice and ideas. Be careful with the use of the advice, behave wisely and remember, the responsibility is yours alone.

This book is dedicated to my father and my mother, of blessed memory, who in their great wisdom knew how to pass on to me the knowledge and wisdom of the Kabbalah, the importance of giving and accepting one’s fellowman with love. I heard the sentence “Love thy Neighbor as Thyself” many times. It was always important for them to teach me that human beings are not identical and therefore one must accept each person for himself. We are all creations of the Creator and thus we are all committed, each one to the other. In addition, I thank my wife Yael and my daughters Gabriela, Liat and Noam, who in their great wisdom know how to accept with understanding my demanding work which does not always leave me much time for them.

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

“Every person who causes unnecessary suffering to animals, which are all creations of God – distances himself from the Divine Spirit and fortune and will bring on himself troubles and sickness, may the Allmerciful protect us.”

About the Author Already from an early age, Itzhak Mizrahi underwent mystical experiences that manifested themselves in channeling (communication with spirits), while the Kabbalah and the Zohar accompanied him, lighting his way. The occupation with mysticism and Kabbalah is like a trail of knowledge and practice extending down the generations of his family, whose roots are planted firmly in these fields and whose name goes before them, heralding their help and great and tremendous contribution to others. This assistance, extending over far reaching areas, grants many people positive and wonderful changes in an illuminating way, all this with close and strict guidance according to ancient teachings and long hidden knowledge that was passed on as an inheritance from father to son and from generation to generation. Throughout the ages, there were always Sages in the royal courts and in central places - soothsayers and prophets who bestowed their advice on the basis of their familiarization with the stars and with hidden sources like the Kabbalah, the Holy Zohar, the Bible, and more. The roots of the Kabbalah emanate from geniuses (Geonim) and the very understanding and implementing of the knowledge, enables opening what is concealed in man, so as to recognize his limits and use his skills to full personal attainment and even to control his fate in the best way and with the aid of guiding people, like Itzhak.

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Introduction This book is a collection of virtues (segulot), spells, amulets and other good advice from the words of the Sages. For the first time, virtues and amulets are published, after they were kept in my family for generations and passed in secret down the ancestral line, among the other practical Kabbalah advice. The information introduced in this book is about the purity of the Kabbalah and it bears no connection with impurity or sorcery. You will not find here advice like:”Take out the wolf’s eye, dry it and carry it in your purse to ward off the evil eye…” or “Cook a live frog in order to remove this pain or the other”. This book on the Kabbalah is clean from any action that is likely to cause any kind of suffering to animals. Nowadays, one can skip all those actions that cause animal abuse. All the advice in the book are easy to perform and accessible to everyone. In addition, for the first time, advice is introduced here about how to recognize invalid virtues, how to know that what is given to us is kosher and not faulty, how to recognize defective holy works that cause impedance and failures in life. Part of the information in this book was compiled from Kabbalistic sources like the Book of the Zohar, the Book of Secrets (Raziel the Angel), prayer books and books of Jewish traditions from diverse denominations. This book will serve one and all in everyday life in solving different problems that arise at any given moment: Problems of health, marital relationships, livelihood, love, betrayal, the evil eye and sorcery, lack of success and absence of luck, etc. 11

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Practical Kabbalah What is Practical Kabbalah? There are two strata of Kabbalah: Theoretical Kabbalah - This is the deep instruction revealed by the Kabbalah at the Creation - the internal light of the Lord at the Creation and the infinite, everlasting and encompassing light of God. Practical Kabbalah - Practical Kabbalah makes use of the wisdom of the Kabbalah to influence events occurring in the world and in man’s life. Sometimes, practical Kabbalah invites spiritual forces like angels and other beings that exist in the universe and commands them – or swears them in, to carry out an act or to fulfill a certain position in tangible reality. 400 years ago, the Holy Ari, (Rabbi Isaac Ben Solomon Luria) of blessed memory, ruled that in our generation, we are forbidden to involve ourselves in practical Kabbalah, since we do not have the possibility to purify our bodies. Occupation with practical Kabbalah by anyone without the proper knowledge is very harmful. When the founder of Hassidism, the Baal Shem Tov, was still a young righteous man, he encountered a dangerous situation. In order to flee, he had to cross a river. Since he was familiar with the mysteries of practical Kabbalah, he knew how to pronounce the secret names of God. By doing so, he received strength to cross the river and was spared. It is said that, all his life, the Baal Shem Tov regretted having been forced to use practical Kabbalah which had been forbidden for use by the Holy Ari, of blessed memory.

According to the Kabbalah, involvement with it is permissible for a married man over 45, the father of at least three children, who was in the past a learned scholar (Talmid Huchum). Women are forbidden to deal in the Kabbalah and, in particular, to read other people’s fortunes in the Book of the Zohar and to be involved in practical Kabbalah. The reason for this is that a woman is in different periods of impurity during her life and occupation with the Kabbalah at a time of impurity is likely to bring disaster on her and on her family or those around her. It is known that the Kabbalah is a secret that could cause a man to lose his mind and, therefore, many restrictions are placed in the way of whoever wishes to be involved in the secret. Today, there are women and very young people who learn Kabbalah in courses and workshops. These studies are superficial only and do not deal with the secrets of practical Kabbalah that emanate from the Kabbalah and the Zohar. Is it appropriate to receive advice from Kabbalists? Inviting spiritual powers to perform man’s will is strictly forbidden. Nevertheless, there are other actions that although not forbidden constitute only a superficial part of the Kabbalah. Sometimes people go to a “Kabbalist” and request that he determines if their partner is suitable for them, according to the names of the potential couple and according to calculations of the Kabbalah. Kabbalists make these calculations in many ways. However, it is important to understand that this is very superficial and insignificant. It is not recommended at all to ask for such advice. This type of calculation is not considered to be forbidden practical Kabbalah, but does not provide answers in depth. A true Kabbalist is a man who developed from the spiritual aspect as a result of his innocent efforts to help his fellowman. From this, he achieves real spiritual senses and does not use technical or superficial devices. A real rabbi, for instance a Hassidic rabbi, is therefore the 14

right address to contact for all questions about life. This truly righteous person involves himself in the internal study of the Kabbalah to such a tremendous extent, that he achieves a feeling of reality deep in his soul and he knows what to recommend every person who approaches him for help.

Are Amulets Considered as Practical Kabbalah? Are they beneficial? Amulets are at the border of practical Kabbalah. There is a reference to amulets in the Torah. When a great, wise scholar writes holy names (without saying them out loud) on a card and places the card into a receptacle worn by the recipient, or makes use of it according to the advice of a Kabbalist, there are likely to be very great medical and spiritual powers to this action. During his early life, the Baal Shem Tov, since he was a healer, would make use of amulets. At the end of his life, the Baal Shem Tov no longer used to write the names of the Almighty on amulets, but his first name only: either “Israel, son of Sarah” or “Israel, son of Eliezer”. So was the perfect amulet that was given by the Baal Shem Tov. It is known to us that the Rabbi from Lubavitch gave dollars to people so that they would donate the money to charity. He gave an actual material gift, but this gift was tied to the spiritual commandment (mitzvah) of charity. Due to the existence of the commandment of charity by man, the person who performed the charity could be blessed. The Sages of Blessed Memory (Chazal) say that whoever receives a coin from Job (who was a righteous man), receives a blessing. There is a source in the Torah that indicates that receiving a coin from a great, righteous man brings a blessing. That being the case, we see that there are permitted amulets. The determining factor in their effectiveness is the righteousness and the intention of the person who provides them.

The Book of the Zohar as the Principal Source of Practical Kabbalah Starting from 1280, the first sheets of the central composition of Kabbalistic literature, the Book of the Zohar, began to appear. Academic research relates its composition to Rabbi Moshe De Leon and the date of its writing from 1280 to the death of the author in 1305. The book, related by Kabbalists to Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai and his group of disciples, did not receive fame or publicity and was known only to the Kabbalists. During the 15th century, innovations in the doctrine of the Kabbalah diminished, but in 1492, there was a deep revival of the Kabbalistic doctrine as a result of the expulsion from Spain, and the center of gravity moved to the town of Zefat. The sanctification of the Book of the Zohar and its wide-reaching influence grew as a result of the trauma of the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492. The doctrines of the Kabbalah gave extensive coverage to the yearning for redemption of the grieving people suffering from the crisis of exile. The Kabbalah and the Book of the Zohar emerged from the domain of the closed sect of the members of the Kabbalah and spread to the masses of the House of Israel An additional thrust to the circulation and sanctifying of the Book of the Zohar came in the 16th century, with its publication (for the first time in Mantua). Its influence reached its peak amongst the Kabbalists of Zefat, in particular the Kabbalah of the Ari, many of the innovative mystical ideas of which emanated from the interpretation of the Book of the Zohar. The Zohar turned to be the main source of occult teachings, and earned itself a canonical place next to the Bible and the Talmud. Nevertheless, throughout the generations, from the beginning of the appearance of the book and up to the Age of Enlightenment, there were those who opposed it for various reasons, and the debate around the Book of the Zohar continues today. 17

Structure of the Ten Spheres (Sephirot) The model of the Ten Spheres of Kabbalah represents the process of consolidation of the divine energy frequencies that gradually descend from the highest and most spiritual stratum (Crown -Keter) to the most corporeal (Kingship– Malkuth). The structure and order of the Spheres is very important. The position of each Sphere gives us information about its qualities and also about its reciprocal relationship with the other Spheres. The position comprises two parameters: Height of the Sphere: The higher the Sphere, the more spiritual and metaphysical it is, and thus, it is supposedly, closer to God. The Spheres that are situated one above the other have similar characteristics and they reinforce each other. Side of the Sphere: There are three sides, “pillars” or “lines” in the language of the Kabbalah - right, center and left. Spheres that are situated one next to the other are Spheres that contradict each other and carry out between them a dialectical relationship of antagonism and completion. Each side has its own special characteristics: Right – the “male” side: This side is characterized by active forces, with a tendency to expand and spread without complexity and detail. Left – the “female” side: This side is characterized by passive forces with a tendency to be reduced and enter into definitions and details. The Center Line – The “mating” side. This line is characterized by balanced forces, seeking to unite the opposites, the male and the female, and to reach perfection. The Spheres are structured in the shape of the human body and are divided into two groups: 18

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

The three upper Spheres are called in short “First Three” (Gimmel Rishonnot)” These Spheres are generally known as “the brain” (Mochin) and they represent the human head and the forces of reason and thought. The seven lower Spheres are called in short “Lower Seven” (Zayin Tachtonot). These Spheres are generally named “the building Spheres” and represent the human body, from the chest downwards, and the emotional and practical forces. Sometimes, the First Three are described as the soul, in relation to the Lower Seven, which are the body. There is a wealth of allegorical analogies to the Lower Seven Spheres. One of them is their analogy to seven historical role models, called the seven Shepherds. These seven figures are also the guests who visit the Sukkah.

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

The Ten Spheres Following are the Details of the Ten Spheres: Crown (Keter) The "Crown" is the highest Sphere of all. The name of the Sphere indicates that it is not an integral part of the system of Spheres, but is found above them, just as the crown is not a part of the body but is rather placed above it. Usually, the Crown Sphere is known as "Nothingness", since it represents the empty space that preceded Creation. The quality ascribed to "Crown" is the willpower that sets everything in motion. The Sphere of the "Crown" represents the stage at which a vague desire is awakened for something, while what it is and how it will be achieved is still not known, but only the need exists for the "something" unknown. For many reasons - including the fact that this Sphere is not altogether considered as being a part of the other Spheres, as well as the question of whether the "Crown" has its own power or is only a "pipeline" and vessel, just like all the other Spheres – the "Crown" is not always counted as part of the array of Spheres. Consequently, it was necessary to add another Sphere, "Knowledge" (Da'at). This is the Kabbalistic system of the Hassidic Chabad movement.

Wisdom (Chokhmah) "You will find Wisdom in nothingness". The Sphere of Wisdom emanates from within the Sphere of "nothingness" that is the Crown. This Sphere is the beginning of the divine conception and design of the Creation. In this Sphere, the will of the Crown is revealed and the 21

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

first impression appears that is a general answer to the question "what do I want?" As hinted in its Hebrew name: Wisdom (Chokhmah) is equal to "what power?".

Understanding (Binah) Understanding is the receptacle of Wisdom. It takes the idea that is created by Wisdom and interprets it, trying to ascertain how it will be possible to actually realize it. Now the initial idea starts to become more understandable and it receives shape and details. Understanding is to be compared with the womb, receiving the male seed – Wisdom, and giving it a body, which is the Sphere of the Building. The Sphere of Understanding is also related to the ability to contain antagonisms and to integrate opposites. The Sphere of Understanding is also called "Alma Edhiro" (Aramaic), meaning "the world of freedom" – the source of free choice. It is also the source of repentance (teshuva) - the ability to turn evil into good.

Kindness (Chesed) This is the Sphere that brings divine good and infinite abundance into the world, without any account and reduction. Just like the soul of man, it symbolizes the power of love and the desire to improve the other. This is a benefit that has no bounds, neither from the point of view of quality, nor from the point of view of quantity and does not take into any consideration whatsoever the ability of the receiver to contain it. Abundance like this is likely to be problematic for a number of reasons: It does not allow the receiver any independence, like a parent who does not leave his child for a moment and does not let him cope with challenges by himself. In addition, such power does not consider the needs of the receiver at all and, instead of benefiting him, can harm him, like a fatal "bear hug".

22

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Severity (Gevurah) Severity is the Sphere that reduces the bestowing of Kindness on whoever is worthy of it. While Kindness is a Sphere of benefit, in Severity there is a dimension of law and justice. The existence of Severity provides a certain explanation to the problems of evil in the world, although the main source of evil is not to be found in the divine Sphere, but in the acts of mankind themselves that prevent good from reaching them, because of their acts of evil behavior. This Sphere is also known as "Judgment" (Din).

Beauty (Tiferet) Beauty is the Sphere that mediates between Kindness and Severity and constitutes a compromise between the abundance and the limitation of Judgment. The harmony that it brings is what turns it into "Beauty". Another name given as a result of this is “Truth” (Emet), in its capacity of reconciling Kindness and Judgment. An additional name given to this Sphere is “Mercy” (Rahamim).

Eternity (Netzach) Eternity is a sister Sphere to Splendor (Hod). It is linked to the figure of Moses and represents a constant flow of continuous, endless giving.

Splendor (Hod) Together with the Sphere Eternity, Splendor is considered to be the “legs”, the strength that holds and supports the rest of the upper Spheres.

23

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Foundation (Yesod) The Foundation Sphere is attributed to masculinity. It receives abundance from the Spheres above it and transfers it to the “Kingship” Sphere. Foundation is the force which connects high divine ideals to “low” reality and makes the transition from the heavenly to the earthly world.

Kingship (Malkuth) Kingship, also called “Divine Spirit” (Shechina), is attributed to femininity. It absorbs the abundant energies from “Foundation” and passes them to the material world. It is not active on its own but passive and it has no power itself, but serves solely as a receptacle. This is characteristic of the female image attributed to it. The Divine Spirit is the Assembly of Israel. The term “Divine Grief” symbolizes the sorrow of Divinity, which is the world’s divine inspiration, when it is most distant from the divine Spheres that are a source of vitality.

24

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

The bold sexual metaphors that have grown up around the last two Spheres, that deal with the way “Foundation” joins with “Kingship” and transmits abundance to it, are one of the reasons why young people are forbidden to be involved with Kabbalah.

Luck

What causes a blockage of luck? Blockages can be caused due to a number of reasons. The most common is the evil eye: The evil eye can be cast by a family member, or close friend, who is not intentionally malicious, and the person with the evil eye on him is likely to be totally unaware of it. Numerous cases of the evil eye are caused by relatives, even when there is no apparent reason for jealousy or hatred that can bring it about. One way of causing the evil eye is excessive arrogance. Another reason for a blockage in luck is likely to occur as a result of a vow that was made but not kept. Mostly, we tend to make vows in situations of deep sadness or great happiness, without giving them the appropriate seriousness. Our unique, emotional state at the time of the vow is likely to cause us to forget the vow from then on. On the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), there is a special prayer for the annulment of vows, but the Day of Atonement comes only once a year and throughout the year a vow could have negative ramifications on our lives. A miscarriage or relations with a married man can cause depression or negative energies, which are reasons for blockage of luck.

26

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Another quite common reason is sorcery. Nowadays, many people tend to use sorcery or are assisted by sorcerers in order to achieve different goals, for example: restoring lost love, making someone love us, locking (to cause blind love), binding (not to allow and, of course, to keep away an enemy or competitor in love or business). One can diagnose whether a certain person has the evil eye on him by wearing a very thin silver necklace around his neck. If the necklace tears during a period of 30 days, for any reason, one can conclude that that person has the evil eye on him. This is just one of many ways of diagnosing the evil eye. Additional ways are also known to be customary amongst different ethnic groups, each group having its own special ways. The next stage is to prepare an amulet or virtue for release from the evil eye. Few people know the true work of sorcery. All those who do not know, bring on themselves or on those on whom they perform the ceremonies of sorcery for them various blockages in all walks of life, causing damage to luck and success, etc.

27

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

The Beautiful Child (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Hezi (fictitious name) aged about 39, came to me for consultation as a last resort after he visited numerous mystics who tried to find the root of his problems. Nothing worked out for him in his life and everything appeared blocked: He was unable to keep a job for long periods, was unsuccessful in his relationships with women, had hardly any friends, and at his advanced age was still living with his mother. In the opening of fate that I performed, the most simple and basic reasons for his condition were revealed. Hezi was a handsome child (he also confirmed this himself), and it was more than likely that he had been given the evil eye by a person or people who envied him, causing him blockages and impedance throughout his life. The opening of the Book of the Zohar revealed the term “Evil Eye” (Eina Beesha) twice – meaning that the evil eye that was cast on him was still at full strength. According to Hezi, due to his serious condition, all the mystics he approached sought the effects of the true sorcery that was allegedly performed on him. Nobody imagined that a simple and basic factor like the evil eye could be the reason for his problems. I wrote for Hezi a personal amulet to protect him from the evil eye. After about two months, Hezi told me that significant changes had taken place in his life: He found a new job that he liked; He met a nice girl who became his girlfriend; He is accepted and liked by those around him; and He has met new people and widened his circle of friends. Most important of all, Hezi at last left his mother’s home and now lives with his girlfriend. 28

A Blessing for Success and Protection in Every Way and Deed

This blessing may be copied (photocopied), folded and kept in your pocket or purse or carried on your body. You should write your name and the name of your mother on the back of the amulet. (For example, if your name is Michal and your mother’s name is Rachel, write: Michal, (daughter of Rachel). The blessing, written in gothic, Angel script (the Theban alphabet), will bring success and safety to whoever carries it. 29

Good Advice for Blessing Ourselves: Usually we light a candle in remembrance of others or for a good virtue for someone else to have good things happen, blessing, livelihood and health for them. Now we will light a candle for ourselves. Few people know this, but this is not only good but necessary. Moreover, thinking for ourselves is a blessing and virtue. This blessing is very powerful and will grant us success and make our wishes come true. Light a white candle on Sunday and say: “Answer me, my Lord, Answer me. I put my trust in you that you will bring upon me only good things and you will make my wishes come true and you will answer me. Give me, God ….” (here just talk to God and let him know what you want for yourself - good health, good relationship, livelihood and abundance for you and your family - each one from his own feelings and self expression). Trust me, it works. The power of the prayer is highly known.

Virtues (Segulot) from the Kabbalah What is a virtue (segula)? A virtue is something that you believe will bring you luck, protect you from harm, open the ways to wealth and fortune. More than once, at least, each and every one of us found a coin or some item that we attributed as bringing us luck and success. The virtue, in contrast to the amulet, is not written according to the name of the person or his date of birth and his mother's name. It is an object that we believe in and it is our faith that gives it its power. For example: A businessman who signs all his contracts with one pen in

30

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

particular and no other does so because he believes that this brings gives him luck in his business. An additional example is people who close deals and contracts only on a specific date or day because they believe that it will bring them luck. People attribute numbers to their luck and assume that if they do anything that includes the lucky numbers - it will bring them luck. On many occasions, people find their own virtue that they believe will bring them luck, or they approach a Kabbalist and ask him for a virtue. This will empower their faith in the object they received because it was given to them by someone with "authority". There are virtues that have been passed on from generation to generation, have been proved to work and are considered successful and effective. Some actions are considered virtues, like scattering salt against the evil eye or hanging garlic at the entrance to the house against ghosts and bad spirits or any other misfortune, or knocking on wood to cancel any negative utterance that was said by a person near you, or the belief that carrying a Book of Psalms will give you protection from any harm and ward off the evil eye.

Health Kabbalistic medicine, in contrast to conventional western medicine, sees a person as a whole. The model that guides the perception is that whenever there is optimal equilibrium in all levels of a person’s existence - spiritual, mental, emotional, energetic and physical – there will also be a condition of good health. Sickness is a sign of energy blockage, or low energy, caused from various reasons related to each one of these levels and also to the person’s lifestyle and his patterns of thought. The role of Kabbalistic medicine is to trace the source of the illness and to remedy the real cause that lies behind the screen of symptoms. Since the basis of existence for everything in the universe is the genetic code concealed in Hebrew letters and their combinations, Kabbalistic medicine utilizes the different combinations of letters, comprised in amulets and virtues, for healing purposes. In addition, it has been found that Kabbalistic medicine makes use of the special herbs and natural remedies customarily used in folk medicine for generations.

Tip – for Refreshing Energy: Washing your face and hands in flowing spring water will cause an immediate regeneration of energies and will greatly re-charge you with a lot of energy. Virtues for Proper and Healthy Eating: These are the ten, most important Kabbalistic rules of eating, for good health and protection against illnesses that emanate from bad eating habits and an unbalanced diet. Food should be chewed very, very thoroughly before swallowing. Eating should not take place in times of anger or troubled thoughts. The best time for eating meat is between sundown and when the stars are visible. The night meal should be light and not include high-fat food. Eat food that is easily digested before anything difficult to digest. Do not eat pastries that are not well baked. It is better to eat hard boiled eggs, rather than soft boiled. Beware of eating fish that is not fresh or not cooked enough. All fruit and vegetables must be washed before eating. Eat plenty of garlic and onion and drink less alcohol. Lastly – eat slowly and enjoy the meal as much as possible. In this manner, you will look after your health. 34

The Sickly Child: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Itai’s mother approached me for consultancy via the Internet after she almost lost all hope: Itai had been sick for two and a half years without any clear reason. He jumped from one sickness to another without time to get better and strengthen up and his medical condition had declined even more. I examined the situation with the aid of a calculation of Itai’s name, his mother’s name and his date of birth, and I discovered a problem, as a result of which I asked the mother to come to me with Itai to open his fate. When the mother came to me with her son, I checked in the Book of the Zohar and found that the boy had the evil eye on him in a particularly severe way, and this is what caused his bad state of health. Apparently, the evil eye had been cast on him, without any evil intention, by a barren woman whom the mother knew. The woman’s jealousy (natural and understandable) of Itai’s mother in her happiness in her young son was enough to cause him such serious damage. I made the mother a personal amulet to protect the boy and she placed it next to his bed. Ten days later, I was told that little Itai had completely recovered from his illnesses and his energies were going from strength to strength.

Virtue for Recovery and Protection from Illness: Take the shell of half a pomegranate, empty it from pips and dry it in the sun for a week. After one week, you will have a kind of dry cup from pomegranate peel. Add to this cup a little frankincense, 7 myrtle leaves, salt, 7 garlic cloves and a parchment with the person’s name, Hebrew date of birth and name of the mother. Wrap it all in red cloth 35

and tie it with a red string. Place the virtue underneath the bed of the sick person for one year. Amulet for a Sick person: Make a mixture of a garlic clove, cut in half, a teaspoon of honey and a pinch of coarse salt. Put all the mixture into some tin foil, close tightly and warm on the stove a little. After heating, wrap in white cloth, tie with a red string and put under the mattress of the sick person’s bed. Upon recovery, bury the amulet in the ground, far away from home. Virtue for a Sick Person in a Serious Condition: This virtue is intended for a sick person in a serious condition, whose chances of recovery are slim. Take a white chicken egg. Write on the egg the name of the sick person, his Hebrew date of birth and his mother’s name. Wrap the egg in tin foil and place it under the bed of the sick person for three days. After this time, bury the egg in the grounds of a Jewish cemetery, preferably near a fresh grave. Virtue for Good Health – Speedy Recovery from Sickness: Take a snake skin. Write on it the name of the sick person and his mother’s name and leave in hot water for 24 hours. After this time, take out the snake skin and bury it in the ground far away from the home of the sick person. Pour the water that is left over the legs of the sick person and, God willing, he will recover from his sickness in a very short space of time. Amulet for Good Health and Recovery: Take 3 date pips and three garlic cloves and sprinkle a little salt over them. On a piece of leather or parchment, write the name of the sick person, his mother’s name and his grandmother’s name on his mother’s side. Wrap all this in tin foil and hide in the bed of the sick 36

person. This virtue will help speedy recovery and will bring the sick person back to you speedily. Amulet for Good Health: Draw and write this table of letters on kosher parchment, place it under the pillow of the sick person for three days. After this period, burn the amulet in the sick person’s room and, God willing, he will make a speedy recovery.

For Healing Kidney Stones: In order to relieve the problem of kidney stones, there are a number of virtues likely to cure and ease the sick person’s suffering. A – The most common virtue is to take a goat that was not milked for three days and three nights, and after that to milk it and give the sick person the hot milk to drink - and the stones will break and pass out of his body. B – Soak three cloves of garlic in a cup of red, sweet wine (some add a tablespoon of honey). Leave to soak for a night and a day and give it to the sick person to drink. Repeat this action throughout one week – and the stones will pass out in the sick person’s urine. 37

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

C – Cook celery, one onion, 5 cloves of garlic and some oatmeal in 3 liters of water for 6 hours on a low heat. Give the sick person one cup of the soup to drink in the evening and one cup in the morning, and he will not feel the pain of the stones in his kidneys. Ear Problems: The Kabbalah has many remedies and advice for treating earache or inflammation: For earache, trickle a little lukewarm olive oil into the ear – and the pain will pass. For earache in children, trickle mother’s milk straight into the ear and the pain will pass immediately. In the case of an insect entering the ear, warm a little butter with a little salt, rub it into the ear – and the insect will come out. For continuous earache, fry a large onion, cool the oil and trickle 5 drops on the painful ear. The pain will pass in one hour, at the most.

Anxiety: (A true case that was treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Ariel (fictitious name), aged around 16 never left his house. He did not take part in school trips, did not go to youth camps and never slept at friends’ houses, since every time he was supposed to spend the night away from home, he was seized by a terrible anxiety attack that made his parents come and take him back home in the middle of the night.

38

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Ariel’s mother called me to arrange a consultation meeting since she felt that her son was not capable of leading a normal life like other youths of his age. When the two came to my office, I performed an opening of fate and the results I received determined that I needed to perform on Ariel a restoration of his incarnations. During the restoration, it became clear that in his past incarnation Ariel was a boy who was abandoned in the Holocaust. He lost his parents and looked for his way, walked and walked, until he fell and died abandoned without a living soul nearby and without anyone being able to know his fate. This trauma passed with Ariel to his present existence and was the reason for his great anxiety at being abandoned and left without his parents. I prepared for Ariel Kabbalistic material for removing anxiety and explained to him at length how to use it. From now on, every time he gets into an anxiety attack, he can overcome it easily by himself. I heard lately from Ariel’s mother that the lad goes out and enjoys himself, goes on trips with his friends, was recruited to the army and completes all the experiences that he missed in his former childhood. Amulet for Removing Anxiety: Write the following amulet on white paper or kosher parchment. Place in the hand of the anxiety sufferer for every anxiety attack and, God willing, his condition will be greatly relieved. Tried and tested.

Improving Memory: Write on kosher parchment the inscription appearing in the following amulet. Roll it up and attach it to your body. In any exam or any activity that requires memory, you will pass with great success.

Withdrawal from Addiction: Apart from the writing of amulets with angels swearing for withdrawal from addiction, there is an additional possibility for quitting smoking, alcohol, drugs and more. You must keep permanently the Rue plant in your pocket and smell it at least 3 times an hour. Each time you smell, say: “Answer me my Lord. Answer me. Give me the strength to overcome my negative desires. Don’t let my strength weaken along this way”.

Enemies There are a number of virtues and amulets against enemies, in order to subdue and even neutralize their influence. You need to close the enemy’s mouth and cause him to be your friend instead of your foe. Following are few advice against enemies.

40

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

To Subdue an Enemy or Bad Neighbor: Urinate into any kind of metal container. Add a pinch of salt and cover. Wait 3 days and on the third day, pour the urine over the entrance to the enemy’s or neighbor’s house. This action will subdue your enemy and stop him from bothering or harming you any more and he will not speak of you badly again. To Subdue Those who Hate You: On a holiday or after the Sabbath goes out, read Chapters 35 and 55 from the book of Psalms opposite the house of the person who hates you and at the end of the prayer spit at his house or at him 3 times – and he will become your friend and will not harm you again. Repeat this action three times. To Silence the One who Hates You: Take a new rope the length of your body. Tie 10 knots in it and with each one say: “I tie the mouth of (say the person’s name and the name of his mother) so that he will not speak of me badly and will not slander me”. Afterwards, bury the rope in the cemetery or in the enemy’s garden. To Subdue every Enemy and Trouble Maker: Write the following on parchment:

The Home There are numerous virtues and amulets concerning the home and its inhabitants. There are things that you need to do before building a house and there are those that you need to do on entering the house. It is preferable, of course, to keep your house purified in order to prevent arguments and disputes amongst the members of the household, and other hitches. In the writings of the Kabbalists it is found that anyone who builds a new house in a place where there was never one before, takes the place of pests who will consider this house as their own. Thus, anyone who builds a new house, needs to ask a writer of amulets or any scribe to write on kosher parchment an amulet to remove the pests. The amulet should be fixed above the threshold of the house and is also advisable to be placed under the windows. Here is an example of an amulet for the entrance to the home:

Entering a New Home: Upon entering a new home, a big virtue is to make a charity dinner, or to give a donation to feed the poor. Negative Energies in the Home and their Influence: The wisdom of the Kabbalah teaches us that our home absorbs, receives and transmits energy. In every action we take, for instance: becoming angry; fighting; arguing; etc., our mood influences the feelings of energy in the home. Every negative remark that comes out of our mouths, like: cursing, shouting, emotions and wasted thoughts or any kind of negative outburst - all these stay between the walls of the home. The words we use create positive or negative “angels”. The expression “walls have ears” is not a myth: The walls of the house absorb and remember the energy that is transmitted between them. While we are in the house, the things that are said there and the things that are done there reflect on us and influence us. It does not matter whether actions or words that have already been forgiven or forgotten by us are concerned. Their influence still exists. Furthermore, if people with negative energies used to live in our house in the past, or there were negative actions, and the house is not purified, just by living in the house we are exposed to the accompanying influences, even if we are not aware of it. The phenomenon of “sleeping disorders” can derive from a low energy situation in the house. A sick person staying in the house inadvertently attracts to himself negative energies, which cause depression and negative feelings – and these “are absorbed” into 44

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

the walls of the house. In this manner, the house is characterized by a feeling of “sickness and lack of vitality”. The sick person has diminishing positive energies and, therefore, his presence in a low energy environment slows down the healing process. His presence in a positive energy environment can help him to recover. There are quite a few houses with souls that did not continue on their way any stayed locked within the walls.

Purifying the Home: There are many ways of purifying the home. Following are a few examples: Purifying with Candles: As is known, fire is the best form of purification. Thus, you need to wash the house and light 7 candles (preferably on an aluminum tray) and place the candles in every room of the house for 10-15 minutes. Finally, leave the candles to go out in the living room. Once the candles have gone out, squash the aluminum tray with the candle remnants and bury it in the ground. Do not throw out the remnants of the candles in the garbage. Repeat the action 3 times a year. This will ensure a home clean from negative energies and purified all the year round. Purifying with Water and Fire: For a period of 28 days, light a white candle next to the kitchen sink and while the candle is alight, turn on the tap in the sink so that there is a slow trickle of water only, until the candle is finished. Repeat this 45

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

action every day regularly for an hour more or less. On Fridays, you must light the candle before the Sabbath comes in.

Purifying with Frankincense and Myrrh: Frankincense and myrrh are known to be Kabbalistic materials which were used to purify the Temple. These materials are mentioned several times in the Torah and the Books of the Kabbalah. Some use these materials by burning them and scattering the ashes in every corner of the house and others use them as essence and sprinkle 3 drops in every corner of the house. Either way – the house will be purified by using frankincense and myrrh. Purifying with Rain Water: This virtue is aimed at purifying the home and its surroundings. In order to perform the purification, you need to collect rain water in a glass container only and keep it in glass bottles with a cork or plastic stopper. The water must not be in contact with metal. Rain water is considered pure and clear. Fill a plastic spray bottle (like a glass cleaning spray) and spray the inside of the house once a week, or after the visit of an unwelcome guest or someone who causes a feeling of negative energies in the house. It is recommended to spray the inside of the house whenever there is a feeling of tension or argument between the members of the house. Do not mix the rain water with other materials (smelling substances). It is recommended to keep rain water all the year only in glass containers. This action will keep the house purified and clean energetically, which will contribute to the peace and tranquility of the home and its occupants. 46

Converting negative energies to positive ones: To change and convert negative energies and feelings of discomfort with positive ones, take a common "Rue plant" and strike it on your hands, the right and left one alternately. Afterwards, smell your hands for a few minutes (I smelt better things in my life but it does work!). Very soon, you will have a positive sensation in your body and you will feel how all the negativity is converting into good and calming energies. Safeguarding the Home: Write on a wooden board (cedar) the following signs:

Hang the board over the entrance to your house, and evil and sickness and pests will not come to your home. This is a well-known and powerful amulet for protecting your home against any evil spirit. Amulet for Safeguarding the Home: This amulet is tested and known as an especially strong safeguard, protecting the home from all pests, devils, spirits and night ghosts. Write on four kosher parchments:

Fold and wrap each parchment, and hide in four corners of the house.

47

Purifying the home: Put clear spring water or melted snow in a glass bowl in the house. This will cleanse the house for at least 28 days. Afterwards, change the water. Watering a plant with this water after 28 days will speed up its growth. A Good Tip: When a big problem hangs over you and there is no solution in sight, write the following on kosher parchment:

Place the parchment under your head, and a solution will come to you in a dream.

Thief – Theft There are many ways of identifying a thief. There are virtues and even amulets against thieves and for eliminating them from our vicinity. To Identify the Thief: A – Take kosher parchment and write on it the names of the people you suspect of stealing – each name on a separate parchment. The size of the parchment should not be more than 1 cm x 4 cm. Fill a clay bowl with water and pour in one drop of Kiddush wine. Place all the parchments with the names on the water and say out loud: “Answer me, Lord. Answer me. Obliterate the name of the thief that appears on the water”. If one of the parchments sinks in the water and the name is erased, then this is the thief. If not – then the thief is not one of the people you checked. B – An additional way: Take a loaf of bread that was baked the same day. Take a knife with a black handle, and write with the blade of the knife the following names: Adriel, Samael, Viiroel, Zidekiya. Cut the bread while saying: “I swear on you bread by the power of these names that are written on you that you will not reach the belly of the thief”. Give all those present a piece of the bread to eat, and the one who is not able to swallow the bread is the thief. Tried and tested.

The Real Estate Deal: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Marina (fictitious name), an elderly woman who contacted me, told me that she had been surfing “The Israeli Practical Kabbalah Center” website for a long time and that she wished to make an appointment for a personal consultation with me. When Marina came to my office, she told me that she has been investing in real estate for many years, and that she recently received a tempting offer: An empty plot of land in a town in the center of the country was ready for building with all the approvals and the required infrastructures, and the owners of the land were looking for an additional investor in the construction project, who for a modest sum (US$ 100,000) could receive two apartments in the new building. Marina, who was enthusiastic about the opportunity after her lawyer had also invested in the project, came to ask my advice as to whether or not she should join the deal. In opening her fate, I found that it was very unadvisable for her to join in the deal. Marina did not seem to agree with what I said, paid and left. A month and a half later, Marina came to me a second time – with a bouquet of flowers and chocolates. Her story was as follows: On the night after her first meeting with me, she could not fall asleep, but tossed and turned, debating about whether to join the venture. On the one hand, the deal seemed to her to be really attractive and everything seemed to be kosher and promising. On the other hand, an inner voice told her to listen to my advice and not enter as an investor. Two weeks after she visited me, a report was published in the press about a group of five people who sold plots in a building project to investors, took money from them and then disappeared. Marina would have been one of those who were swindled….If she had not taken my advice, she would be poorer today by US$100,000! 50

When a child goes on his way, you need to say after he leaves: “Return in peace and may the Almighty look after you everywhere you go”. After saying this sentence, throw a little salt from the door entrance, outwards. When a man goes on a long journey, his wife needs to say: “Go in peace and return in peace and may no harm befall you. May you not be tempted unnecessarily, and may your love for me stay kindled and strengthen with every passing day until you return to me, in the name of Barkiel, Petesron, Bit and Teftefia”. When a woman leaves the house, her husband needs to say: “Who will find such a woman of valor? Godspeed! May the Almighty look after you and no harm befall you. May you not attract any other man with your beauty, in the name of Ozer, Azaria, Hazan, the Lord be it”. Anyone going away for an extended period should lay a small stone at the entrance to his house before he leaves and say: “In the name of the Almighty, who listens and does, may I leave in peace and return in peace. May no harm befall me along the way and may the Lord command his angels to look after me on my journey, and I offer this milestone for my safe journey. Amen, Amen, Amen”. For Traveling by Car: In order to safeguard against accidents, theft or damage, write the following on kosher parchment with kosher ink, fold and tie it with red string, then hide it in the car so that it cannot be seen by the public eye. 53

The Shop Next Door: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) A few years ago, Tova (fictitious name), the owner of a children’s clothes shop, came to my office. Tova had been running the shop for a few years and was in serious financial difficulties. The business seemed like a total failure. Nothing she did to improve the situation had helped. Her money had all gone and Tova was facing the shop’s closure. As a last resort before abandoning the business, after I was recommended to her, Tova came to me for consultation - simply because she felt she had nothing more to lose. In the opening of her fate, I discovered that her luck was closed. All ways to success were blocked for her. Perhaps someone had cast the evil eye on her, or something else was blocking her way to success. I recommended to Tova that I would write for her the King Solomon’s seal for fortune, capital, livelihood and abundance. She needed to put this on the wall of the shop, behind the cash register in a place where it could be seen by all the customers of the shop. I wished her good luck and left the seal to do its work. Five months later, Tova came to me for an additional meeting – and this time – for consultation on “happy” subjects: As a result of the immediate success of the “treatment” she received, the shop opened and began to bring in a lot of money. Tova decided that from now on, I would be her advisor in everything concerning livelihood and finance. She came to consult with me now as to whether to rent the shop next door, that had recently become vacant, or whether to rent another much larger place somewhere else for the business which had grown tremendously. I advised her to rent the shop next door, to renovate it, and to adjoin it to the existing shop.

56

Today, Tova employs two full-time workers in the shop and has also added toys and shoes to her stock of children’s clothes. It seems that her flourishing business will keep her very busy for years to come! A Virtue for Livelihood and Success: Put a little salt in tin foil and place it in one of your pockets. In order to guarantee livelihood and success, change the salt every day. A Virtue for Safeguarding the Business and Preventing Theft: Put into a snakeskin (a piece of skin shed by a snake), kosher parchment on which is written the first name, mother’s name, father’s name and Hebrew date of birth of the owner of the business. On the other side of the parchment, write: “In the name of Hatamiel, Uriel, Keshriel”. Add a little coarse salt and wrap it all in tin foil. Hide the wrapped snakeskin in the business, so that it cannot be seen by the public eye. A Virtue for Success in the Following Day’s Business or Studies: This virtue is intended for those who wish for special success on the following day, in business, an examination, work interview, or important meeting. Pour a little warm olive oil into a small bowl. Stand, barefoot, in the doorway of your home and say: “May success await me When I leave my home And until I return From all my ways and deeds. And I will return in good spirits. Amen, Amen, Amen. Pour the oil over your toes (not in a sitting position) and then enter your house and do not go out until the following day. (It is advisable to perform this action late at night). You may wash your feet and go to sleep. All the next day will be in the sign of blessing and success. 57

The Small Contractor from Herzlia: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Shlomo (fictitious name) was a contractor from Herzlia I had known for many years. One day, he came to my office for consultation. He was about to submit a proposal for a large building project in Germany and to compete in a tender with large, well-established companies around the world. The partner who was supposed to submit the proposal together with him had gone bankrupt, and Shlomo did not have anyone to share the expected funding with him. Needless to say, Shlomo considered the matter as lost from the start, mainly because of the serious competition he was up against in order to win the project. On opening the Book of the Zohar, I received a particularly encouraging answer. I recommended him to go to the bank and request a loan to cover the part of the expenses that the partner who had quit was supposed to pay. I asked Shlomo to bring me the project proposal brochure and I gave him some Kabbalistic substances to scatter among the pages. Against all odds and to his great amazement, Shlomo won the huge building project. In the meantime, he completed the building venture with great success - a venture that brought him millions of dollars and turned him into a real-estate icon of international class!

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Relationships and Love According to the Kabbalah, the purpose of coupling is to create a powerful, energetic connection between two people, male and female, that will help each one of them perform his spiritual work and so attain a connection with the higher worlds above. Therefore, the relationship must be based on spirituality. In order to have a relationship, the man and woman need to strive to find their complementary side, so that together they can perform the work that is designated for them at the spiritual level and accomplish the rectification (tikkun) of their souls while they are still alive. Sometimes, it seems to us that married couples in our vicinity, experience difficult and complicated marital relations and that their decision to get married was a mistake. If we remember that there is nothing in the universe that is by chance and there is a guiding hand that coordinates everything, we will be able to understand that even a problematic marriage plays a very important role in the spiritual rectification of the couple: Precisely, by way of the difficulties and challenges which their relationship brings them, the spiritual work will be performed in full. Therefore, according to the Kabbalah, the relationship will not be built necessarily out of finding "the twin soul" but from the magnetic attraction of a complementary soul to the life of the person, that is necessary to perform the spiritual work imposed on him. At the level of the material world, we are not clearly aware of the essence of the soul, the goal of the present existence and the identity of the complementary soul that will help it in its rectification (tikkun). Thus, practical Kabbalah recommends different ways to connect us to the spiritual level, at which we are able to check whether our partners can indeed perform the joint spiritual work. 60

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

In addition, practical Kabbalah comes to the aid of people who have difficulty, for various reasons, in finding their designated partner, or those who have difficulty in establishing a loving relationship that will result in marriage.

Mutual Compatibility – This step is one of the most important in the whole relationship. Firstly, you need to check whether there is compatibility between the man and the woman interested in binding their fates together forever. Many ways to check the compatibility of a couple entail an analysis of the letters of the couple’s names and the use of numerology. It is important to note that many people do not succeed in entering into a good relationship that can lead them to the wedding canopy (Chuppah) and to the marriage ceremony because of a name that might be problematic. Names that cause failure in relationships are names which include in them a double letter and especially a double Holy Letter. Holy Letters are: the Hebrew letters Yod, Vav, Hey and it is highly recommended that there will be at least one Holy Letter in the name. A name like Shoshana (in Hebrew), for example, contains the double letter, Shin. A name like Nilli (in Hebrew) contains a double Holy Letter. Generally speaking, these people will not be really happy in their relationship and they will give in and forgive their partner too quickly in order to maintain the framework of the relationship. How to check if a Couple is Compatible? Firstly, you need to check the lucky numbers of the couple: The lucky number is calculated according to the date of birth. For example: You need to add up all the numbers of the date of birth, then add the figures of the result one more time until you get a single number. 61

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

This is the lucky number of someone with the birth date 5.3.1977 Calculate like this: 5+3+1+9+7+7 = 32 And then: 3+2 = 5 The lucky number is 5. If the final result is 10, then the lucky number will be 1: After calculating the couple’s lucky numbers, you need to add the results of the numbers together. For example: if the lucky number of the man is 6 and of the woman is 2 – the couple’s lucky number will be 8. Below is a table showing the numbers and the couple’s compatibility. The results given here are not unequivocal. There may be inaccuracies due to personal lucky numbers: 1. If there is cooperation and decisions are made jointly, the relationship will be very good. If one of the couple tries to run the relationship by himself, the relationship will be doomed to failure and there are likely to be tensions and arguments. 2. A very good relationship: Consideration and understanding, concession rather than stubbornness. Only outside intervention can disrupt the couple’s harmony. 3. Such a relationship will be under constant testing. The relationship needs to be tightly maintained. Argument or dispute could cause betrayal and loss of trust. The relationship is good, but always in danger. 4. The relationship will be run with wisdom by both partners, based on understanding and give and take. The couple will always know when to forgive, or to turn a blind eye, when necessary.

62

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

5. A very good relationship. In this relationship, there will be a lot of luck. There will be no cause for arguments between the couple and the relationship will continue without a break. 6. Difficulties are expected to crop up, every step along the way. The couple will always overcome the problems, but these difficulties are likely to continue throughout the relationship. The good relationship and love will survive and will help the couple to overcome the obstacles. 7. There will not be separation in this relationship. There is a lot of understanding and give and take between the couple. Both of them will learn to read one another and they will communicate without the need for words. 8. A boring relationship. Neither one of the couple will have the courage to change the existing situation or to get up and go. There is lack of progress and no mutual encouragement. 9. This relationship is not recommended at all. It is doomed to failure and usually ends in divorce. The couple will not be satisfied with their mutual life together. In most cases, this kind of relationship began under social pressure.

What Will your Partner Look Like? (For women only) A special virtue for young women, interested in seeing what their future partner will look like. This virtue has been known for many years in the history of the Jews of Spain. I do not know where it started or how accurate it is, but it is 63

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

a custom amongst the Jews of Spain for viewing the future partner of a young girl who, for a long time, was unable to form a relationship. What is needed to observe the partner? A bowl 20x30 cm in diameter. Water up to a third of the height of the bowl. One third of a cup of olive oil. Pour the olive oil into the bowl with the water in 7 measures. Place 7 garlic cloves around the bowl close by it. The young woman (girl) who wishes to see the face of her future partner should look down at the oil in the bowl. At the first stage, she will look to see all her face reflected in the oil, from a distance of approximately 20 cm. After around 5 minutes and even less, a nebular will appear in the oil. Grey or white mist will be reflected in the liquid and the image of the intended partner will appear inside. There are additional ways to perform the ceremony of looking at the intended partner. Every ethnic group has its own slight changes, but the method specified here serves as a basis for all groups. My mother, for example, used the leftover oil from the Sabbath candles for this purpose. I do not recommend that married women should try this virtue. It is likely to bring bad luck on their relationship.

How to Keep Love, Bring Love into Our Lives and Prevent our Partner from Being Unfaithful: There are many virtues and amulets for love. Everyone has his love out there waiting for him and he needs to find it by himself. Not always, will a prince on a white horse arrive on the young girl’s doorstep. Sometimes, the young boy or girl will have to look for the prince or princess designated for them. Here, the secrets of practical Kabbalah will come to our aid, assisting us to find love more easily, or to remove any obstruction that prevents us from attracting the love of the one in whom we are interested (of course, not by sorcery, God forbid, but by removing every obstacle in the way of love).

Binding a Partner: This is permitted only for married couples. If one of the couple is attracted to someone else, it is permitted to perform binding between them, and this is because the Jewish prenuptial agreement (ketubah) is a binding agreement. The binding must not be done in a way that will deprive one of the couple of his/her freedom, but in order to remove any interest in another person that could harm the couple’s relationship. Binding may be performed between a couple when there is a danger of the family being broken up due to external intervention, such as another woman being interested in the man, or another man being interested in the woman, or interference from another person in the running of the family or in the children’s education, which causes intensive arguments in the family, etc.

“Stealing” the Bridegroom: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Dalit (fictitious name) aged 24, came to me for consultation after she was doubly betrayed: She told me that Noa, her “best friend” stole her boyfriend (Ronnie) from her, after she had been in a relationship with him for 3 years – and a wedding had been discussed. Dalit knew that her friend Noa had approached an Arab woman dealing with sorcery who performed an unfair “binding” of Ronnie with Noa, even though she knew that Ronnie was in a serious relationship with Dalit and that they were planning to marry. An opening of the fate in the Book of the Zohar, revealed that Dalit and Ronnie were very compatible together. I suggested to Dalit that she adopt two actions to rectify the situation:

The use of “Aduk” – Kabbalistic material intended to separate Noa from Ronnie and a King Solomon’s seal to revoke the sorcery that had been performed by the Arab woman, bind the relationship and bring back love. 10 days after Dalit took the Kabbalistic material into her possession, there was a rift in the relations between Ronnie and Noa. 20 days later, Ronnie came crawling back to her “on all fours”, and their relationship was renewed.

To Attract the Love of a Woman: Write the following seals on a fig leaf. Soak the leaf in red wine for 24 hours. Wash your face with the wine. Concentrate well on the young lady and say: “May it be that I will be your husband and protector and you will be my wife".

In Order for Your Love Wishes to be Fulfilled: Write these seals on your right hand in kosher ink. Erase them by dipping your hand in a bowl of wine. Drink the wine and every request related to love will be fulfilled.

To Cause Someone to fall in Love with You: Write the name of the man or woman on the handle of a new knife. Leave the knife for 3 days and nights in the Book of Psalms. Cut an apple into two with this knife, while saying these words: “Answer me God, answer me” and give the one whose name you wrote on the knife half of the apple to eat. If he/she eats it all, he will fall in love forever. If he/she eats a little, his/her love will be short. 67

Passionate Love Attraction: Write the following words on kosher parchment and touch the woman whose love you want with the parchment – and she will follow you forever:

The Renewed Marriage: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Gilat (fictitious name), a woman in her thirties, came to me in an extremely low energetic state and under unbearable emotional and mental distress. Gilat told me that her husband had been ignoring her for a long time and showed no desire to get close to her. In parallel, Gilat had met a man at her place of work who she liked very much. She was seriously considering developing a romantic relationship with her work colleague because of the severe distress and loneliness she was experiencing. In spite of this, all thought of the possibility of betraying her husband caused her additional mental pressure, since she felt that she was not built for a double life. Gilat came to me for consultation as a last resort before her marriage broke up. She longed to revive the love and attraction of her husband towards her at any price. In the opening of her fate, I discovered that a lot could be done to help her. Her marriage had a good chance of revival and the option of betrayal would have severely complicated things for her. 68

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

I recommended to Gilat “Habat El Barrake” for bringing back love and for binding the relationship and restoring her husband’s sexual attraction towards her, and “Bab El Arous” to arouse sexual attraction between the couple. A month and a half later, Gilat called me to thank me. Her marriage had improved and she was very grateful for coming to me for consultation before taking erroneous steps that could have caused her serious guilt feelings and the loss of her marriage.

A Virtue for a Woman to Cancel Bad Luck in the Relationship: The woman needs to cut her finger nails, but not in any order: once on the right hand and once on the left hand. She should put the nail cuttings in a piece of white, linen cloth, add a little of her hair and her partner’s hair, write on the cloth the names of the couple and the names of their mothers and hide it in the house, preferably in the clothes closet.

A Virtue for a Man to Keep his Marriage: This virtue has been used in Judaism for hundreds of years: The man needs to urinate through his wedding ring on the night of the full moon. This action needs to be repeated for 3 moons. It will remove every obstacle to his married life.

69

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

To Cause a Man to Love: This is a big and powerful secret that is tried and tested, to cause a man to passionately love a woman: The woman needs to write on any stationery the following names behind the photo of the man and the writing needs to be very accurate, so that all the signs appearing here are written on the back of the photo. After writing, she needs to burn the photo and say: “Just as these names are burning together with you, so will your love for me be like the fire burning in these names”. The photo ashes must be scattered on the ground.

A Virtue to Strengthen the Relationship: To strengthen a relationship that has been weakened due to external intervention, like parents or friends, or any other factor, take a carob with 7 pips, (you can count the pips on a dry carob), write on the back of the carob on one side the name of the woman and her Hebrew date of birth and on the other side of the carob write the name of the man and his Hebrew date of birth. Add a pinch of salt and a garlic clove. Warp in tin foil and put it under the couple’s bed for 7 days.

70

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

After 7 days, open the carob, take the pips out and hide them in different corners of the house. Throw the rest of the components into the garbage or bury them in the ground. This action will strengthen the relationship between the couple and prevent outside influence.

A Virtue for Opening a Blockage in a Relationship: This virtue for opening a blockage in a relationship can be performed by parents whose children suffer from delays in finding partners or bachelors who are unable to form a satisfactory relationship. Take an egg and write on it the name of the son/daughter, the Hebrew birth date and the name of the mother. Calculate with numerology the Gregorian birth date (of the son/daughter), (add all the numbers in the birth date and decrease until you get a single number). The results of the calculation will determine the number of days you need to place the egg under the bed of the blocked person. In the event that you do not know the exact birth date, the egg should be placed for 9 days. At the end of the period, take the egg to an open area out in the open air (preferably at night) and then say: “This is a penance for breaking the blockage in the relationship of (say the name of the person and his/her mother’s name). Send him/her, Lord, with your loving kindness the woman/man that you intended for him/her." Throw the egg up towards the sky. After this ceremony, go back home and wash your hands 7 times. If the egg did not break when it fell, it is a sign of great delay and perhaps even sorcery or binding that prevents the relationship. It is recommended to go to a person authorized to remove the impedance.

A Virtue for Bringing back a Partner: Write on a piece of white cloth the name of the partner and the name of his mother and add these names: Metatron, Heron, Karon. Burn the cloth while whispering: "You, (say the name and the mother's name), return your love for me (say your name and your mother's name) and give me all your love, as long as you will live and there will be no-one else but me". Repeat this process for 7 days, preferably every day at the same time. This action will return the love of the man and strengthen it. This may also be performed by a man on a woman.

A Virtue for Bringing back lost loves This virtue is well known for its great power to bring back a partner’s love. You need the entrance key to the house, garden, storehouse, etc. and a garment or photo of the person you want to return his love to you or to a loved one. Break the key, wrap the fragments in the garment or photo of the person designated, and put it in a hidden place in the house or yard for 21 days. Every 7 days, turn the virtue (the wrapped key) 360 degrees. At the end of the 21 days, throw everything into the garbage. Within less than one Hebrew month, the love will come back.

The Man who has Lost Desire for his Wife: The woman needs to take a white paper and write on it the following names Machtirel, Argaman, Uriel, Anktam, Pastao, Ata, Taser, Li. The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

The Bound Bachelor Girl: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Moran (fictitious name) aged 27, came to my office for consultation. She told me that for the last seven years, since she finished her army service, she had not been successful in forming any relationship – and there was no serious boyfriend on the horizon. In the opening of her fate, I discovered a married man in her life. Although she used to meet him only very occasionally, the complex and problematic relationship with him closed all the possibilities that might be open to her for a suitable partnership. On the other hand – she could not possibly break the connection with the married man since he was also her employer. I explained to Moran that only once she had a real boyfriend suitable for her, could she break away from the relationship with the married man. For this purpose, I prepared for her a palm of the hand amulet (according to the lines of her hand), that was dedicated entirely to the subject of a relationship. After a little more than 40 days during which the amulet was in her possession, Moran met a young man, close to her age, who she really liked. She came to me to check the compatibility of the relationship and, indeed – the young man suited her amazingly. Today Moran is happily married. In retrospect, I discovered from Moran that the married man with whom she had the connection, had taken her photo without her knowledge, printed it and wrote on the back of it things that were not clear to Moran. My conclusion was that most probably the man had bound her to him in an unnatural way (an act of sorcery in order to bind, lock her, etc.). The seal of the palm of her hand that she received from me to strengthen her, successfully revoked all the influences that were against her and helped her to find the right partner. 78

Strengthening the Connection between a Couple: Take an egg and write with a marker pen the names of the couple and their mothers’ names. Pregnancy and Fertility All the virtues and amulets introduced here share a single goal: to cause a woman to become pregnant. A Virtue for Pregnancy: This virtue helps the woman who wishes to get pregnant. The woman needs to take a red string, dip the edges in the wax of a candle which was used for a blessing in a circumcision ceremony (Brit Mila) (part of the candle needs to be melted). Afterwards, the woman will make a wish to become pregnant and will say: “In the name of Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, Raphael, Haniel, Hasdiel, Sendalphon and Metatron, may pregnancy come to me quickly and not be delayed for me or my husband”. After she finishes uttering these words, the woman needs to tie the red string around her belly. The string needs to stay tied to her body for one month, including the time of her menstrual cycle.

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

I opened their fates in the Book of the Zohar and found that the obstacle to fertility was hidden in a certain deed the man had performed in the past and as a result of which his way to starting a family was blocked. I suggested that they use the fertility belt of the Righteous Man (Tzadik) from Morocco and, at the same time, I wrote for them the King Solomon’s seal for fertility and success in every way and deed. After 14 months, the couple called me to consult with me regarding names for the twins that were born to them (a son and daughter)! Seal for Pregnancy: And it was said unto him: “Even if she is a hundred years old – she will conceive”. Write these seals on Thursday at sunset, tie to the woman’s hand, and she will conceive.

Incantations Originally, incantations came from prayers and pleas that we asked from the divine strength or the dark forces. Incantations are requests and sometimes demands and commandments to angels, demons spirits or ghosts. The strength of the incantation is stipulated by the will of the person who performs it. Incantations have their own ceremonies which amplify their strength and the focus of the person who is performing the incantation. Incantations are part of ceremonies that were customary in Ancient Egypt. Sorcerers and magicians used them in many ways. Positive incantations are attributed to people as pleas to God for help, health, livelihood, changes for the good in difficult situations. There are incantations in all kinds of prayers. For example, in the Jewish tradition the prayer “Hear O Israel” (Shema Yisrael) is said in a whisper and in the Islamic tradition there are parts of a prayer that are whispered while bowing towards Mecca. There is also another side to incantations - the negative side: Incantations and swearing to cause harm, illness, misfortune, failures and anything that will harm a person and his surroundings. These kinds of incantations are mostly performed by the swearing-in of demons or souls that will love to abide by the command of a person and deliberately do harm: For example, a sorcerer’s command to a demon or a spirit that is bound to him and obeys his wishes to whisper the specific name of a person at night ("Go out at night and whisper this person’s name while he sleeps and harm will come his way). Most people to whom this kind of incantation is addressed will come to severe harm – spiritual or physical. 84

Incantation for Binding an Adulterous Husband: About an hour after the husband falls asleep at night, the woman needs to stand by his legs approximately one meter away from the bed and whisper in his direction: “You will not have another woman but me”, and gently touch one of the husband’s legs, quietly and carefully so that he will not wake up. The action needs to be repeated at least 12 times in succession. It is recommended to repeat the whole process at least twice in the same month - something that will guarantee faithfulness and prevent the man from being unfaithful.

Incantation for Strengthening a Woman’s Love for a Man: It is recommended to do this late at night. Take a teaspoon of salt and throw it into the fire (this can be done on the stove) and whisper: “I take from (name of woman and woman’s mother) the resistance and the fear that struck her, so that she will love me with all her heart with a powerful love, and she will always be at my side and love me as long as she breathes. Amen, Amen, Amen”. It is recommended to repeat the process for 3 consecutive nights. This action will remove all undue resistance from the woman. Incantation for a Woman who has an Argument with her Husband: Take a handful of flour and a handful of coarse salt and mix together. 85

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Add a silver coin. Add 7 grains of black pepper. Put it all into a piece of white linen cloth and tie with a red string. Wet the contents with flammable substance, ignite and whisper: “Just as this mixture goes up in flames, so will burn the resistance of my husband (say his name and the name of his mother), and mine, his wife (say your name and your mother’s name). His love for me will return and he will love me with a burning love and he will take notice of what I said. Amen, Amen, Amen”. After the fire, wash the coin and put it into the husband’s pocket.

Incantation to Bring Back an Unfaithful Partner: You need to do this on Friday morning. Take a little of the unfaithful partner’s hair or a piece of his/her nail that he/she cut. Add a little salt, wrap everything in a piece of white cloth, and burn it. While it is burning, whisper: “Just as this part of the body is burning, so will burn the love of (say the person’s name and name of his/her mother) for other women/men and he/she will return to me and love me. Honest and true passionate love for me will continue as long as he/she lives. Amen, Amen, Amen”. Bury the ashes that remain near the entrance to the house.

Incantation for Forgetting Unrequited Love: Take 3 hairs from the man or woman you want to forget and put them in a little bag with salt. Bury this in the ground for 3 days. After 3 days, burn the hairs in the flame of a memorial candle and say: "May the memory of he (or she), from whom I took this hair from his/her head, be burned out from my memory. Incantation for the Intense and Binding Love of a Partner: (This is intended for married couples only!) Take an egg and make a small hole in it. Take out the contents of the egg and dry it for 3 days. Write on parchment the name of your spouse and on the other side write: by the Archangel Sharpiel I ask you on behalf of the Lord of Hosts to instill burning fire in the body and heart of (say the name of spouse and his/her mother's name) from head to toe, aflame in the name of Nuriel, Dalakiel, Rukiel, Kabachiel, Sharniel and Sachaniel. To Cause Intense Love: Write the following words on kosher parchment and touch the one you love and want their love with the parchment and they will follow you through fire and water, no matter what:

To Cause Love and Attraction (also for a woman): Take 10 white, fresh papers and write on each one, one of the following names: Tamudin, Persum, Kipin, Vidishin, Vabshin, Magadesh, Kadesh, Tevavbia'a, Elkaba, Tesdodi. Put the names in a water container and after an hour pour out the water at the entrance to the house of the one you desire. When he/she steps on the water, their love will be yours forever.

Advice: 1. Immediately at the end of a wedding, bury the glass that the bridegroom broke under the wedding canopy (Chuppah). This glass symbolizes the destruction of the Temple and keeping it could cause the destruction of the home and divorce. Do not distribute pieces of the glass amongst the bachelors – this is likely to cause delays in finding partnerships – after all, this glass symbolizes destruction.

Sorcery This chapter is not an educational one. There are many kinds of sorcery, but I present here samples of the most common ones in order for you to understand that there are forces in this world that can inflict so much harm and that this is something for which we should be on the lookout. What is Sorcery? Sorcery is a ceremony in which the sorcerer performs actions of powerful energetic force which bend nature to his will. The purpose of sorcery is to carry out acts that will cause changes (mostly for the worst) in the course of a person’s life or somewhere along the way. The sorcerer is assisted by various means to achieve his goal, such as – calling up the souls of the dead, using objects and making concoctions for the purposes of sorcery. There are many kinds of sorcery: sorcery performed with food; sorcery performed by word or ceremony; sorcery performed at burial 90

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

and these are considered to be the most impure and the most difficult to remove; sorcery performed with drink; sorcery carried out with the aid of swearing-in devils and angels of destruction, etc. Different nations and ethnic groups have diverse types of sorcery which characterize them. However, sorcery can be characterized by one common denominator: control over another and the elimination of his freedom, something which contradicts the ways of the Torah – indeed the Almighty gave us freedom, and no-one has the right to take our freedom away from us. Anyone engaged in sorcery brings on himself and on the next seven generations to come diseases, troubles, lack of luck and obstruction in all his deeds and ways. The act of the sorcerer is considered an impurity and woe betide the Jew who engages in such defilement. Sorcery has a unique quality, which is to maintain its efficiency on the person on whom it was inflicted. In other words, the person who was bewitched does not know that sorcery was practiced on him and he will do anything to prevent others from having the spell removed from him. The victim will always claim that everyone is talking rubbish and that there is no such thing – and this is in spite of the fact that he will not have any explanation for the strange and bizarre things that befall him. In general, the bewitched person will not cooperate to remove the spell. Only after the spell is revoked will he understand that, indeed, his freedom had been taken away from him.

Sorcery and Magic in Judaism: To this day, the history of Jewish sorcery in ancient times was rarely studied, for various and unusual reasons, partly understandable and partly a mystery. The first book that was discovered on this issue was published in the modern era almost a hundred years ago - the Book 91

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

of Secrets (Sepher Ha-Razim), a book of sorcery from the Talmudic era. It is known that already during the Bible period, the prophets and leaders of Israel preformed miracles, part of which seem to us today to be sorcery in all intents and purposes: The focus was on exorcism alone. In the Book of Tobit (also called the Book of Tobias), an act of exorcism is described for the first time. Hundreds of years later, Josephus Flavius tells us about a Jew, named Elazar, who exorcised demons several times in the presence of the heads of the Roman army. There are testimonies that in the Qumran library songs were found that were intended for exorcising demons and evil spirits and it is assumed that the inhabitants of the region used these songs and prayers during the period that they resided there. In the Hellenistic culture as well, holy men and priests dealt, among other things, in magic and sorcery. The Sages of the land of Israel at that time considered these acts, including exorcism, to be a way of healing people and treating inexplicable phenomena. Quite often, we may read in Talmudic literature that the Sages of the Talmud and Mishnah dealt in sorcery. In general, it may be said that in ancient times it was not possible to separate religious life from magic and sorcery, as modern man can today. Magic and sorcery were an integral part of religion and among the various acts of sorcery on which there is information in Talmudic literature, we know of three cases of exorcism performed by Rabbis, although there are many more cases of sorcery that took place but about which we do not have exact details. Exorcism amongst Jews was considered as medical treatment, not like nowadays: Today we think that exorcism is an act of magic. The ancient perception was that a person who became sick was possessed by demons and that exorcism would cure him. 92

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Medicine and the ancient folk theories recognized exorcism as an act of healing as today modern medicine fights the viruses that penetrate the body of the modern man.

Different Methods of Sorcery: Sorcery in food: This is done by putting in the food of the person to be bewitched different substances that passed a certain ceremony or were dipped in substances that will cause the bewitched person to change his behavior towards or thoughts about another person or himself. Sorcery by word or ceremony: This is usually performed by swearing in demons or souls of deceased people. The performer of the ceremony swears and obligates the dead or demons to go and perform acts commanded by the sorcerer, and this is done by presenting an offering or performing another action in return. These ceremonies are mainly recognized by those who deal in voodoo. Sorcery in burial: This type of sorcery is considered the most difficult to perform, and also the most difficult to remove from the bewitched person. It is usually performed with the aid of an object or photo of the person for whom the sorcery is intended. In this type of sorcery, it is possible to harm the person in almost every way – even to cause his death. Most acts of this kind of sorcery are performed in the cemetery, when at the end of the ceremony all the material or everything that was done is buried in a fresh or old grave – all according to the type of sorcery. At the end of this sorcery, it is possible to close the luck of the bewitched, distance friends and family from him/her, block his/her personal relationship and all contact with his/her partner, and cause serious illness and even death. Those dealing in this type of sorcery without the proper knowledge or 93

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

accurate instructions are likely to cause serious and irrevocable damage. Sorcery in drink: This type of sorcery is performed in a similar way to sorcery in food, but most of the spells with drink are aimed to bind people to a suitable or unsuitable personal relationship. Sorcery in drink needs to be renewed frequently, once a week or once a month. Many think that a woman’s menstrual cycle is a cause for the binding of a couple, which is not correct: This is a superstition – this act causes the woman to be more and more bound, but not to the man on whom sorcery was performed. Sorcery by swearing in demons: This sorcery is very well known in Judaism. Many Yemenites dealing in mysticism and practical Kabbalah know the secret of the swearing in of demons. The sorcery is performed by a call to demons, usually inside a locked room, in order that, God forbid, there will not be any interruption during the ceremony, which could cause the performer of the ceremony to lose consciousness, or even worse. The summoning of demons is performed with the aid of prayer and saying sentences from practical Kabbalah. As soon as the demon appears, the sorcerer will command him to go to the person and do certain things to him. Sometimes the sorcerer will request the demon to reveal someone’s fortune. The most dangerous aspect of this type of action is that sometimes the demons behave very violently towards the sorcerer. I was personally present once at such an event, when in the middle of the act, the sorcerer started to scream that he was being beaten and when he went out of the room he was covered in cuts and bruises and needed medical treatment. How to Discover if Sorcery was Performed on Someone? Fill a glass bowl with almond oil or olive oil, wrap the bowl in black paper and look at the oil. 94

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

If you see your reflection in the oil, you are not bewitched, but if not, indeed you have been bewitched.

The Captive Girl: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Rebecca (fictitious name), an ultra-orthodox woman, called me and told me that her 17- year old daughter, Shlomit, a good girl and excellent student, had fallen in love with Adel, an Arab boy who worked in the building near their home. Shlomit, blindly in love, left home in a hurry and went after Adel to his village to be with him there. Of course, the story was kept in strict secrecy by Shlomit’s parents among the community in which they lived. When Rebecca came to me for consultation, I opened the Book of the Zohar and found that it was most likely that Shlomit had been bewitched and she was not aware of what was happening to her and into what situation she had fallen. I suggested to Rebecca to write for her a seal for invoking angels that she needed to wrap in one of Shlomit’s garments and leave in her room. In addition, she needed to use “Aduk” in order to separate Shlomit from Adel. Rebecca took my advice and used Kabbalistic materials in order to get her daughter back. After a few weeks, tension and arguments started to arise between Shlomit and Adel, disputes and fights tore them apart, and Shlomit returned home without knowing anything about the things that had been done to make her come back. 95

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

I personally can testify that Shlomit was not in love at all with Adel and was unaware of the meaning of her actions that were due to the sorcery performed on her by him.

How to Recognize Someone Who Had Sorcery Performed on Him: Should a person suddenly changes his ways without any logical explanation - for instance, from hate he will turn to love without any explanation - there is a suspicion of sorcery. Illogical and inexplicable actions - for example, a sudden attraction to somebody without any explanation, even if it means destroying the family - can testify to sorcery. Disputes and arguments without any visible reason can indicate sorcery. The lack of ability to form a relationship, even though everything points to there not being any problem, can indicate sorcery. Should a person start to behave strangely or say strange and illogical things, it can be a sign that sorcery was performed on him. A Way of Discovering Sorcery: Write on an egg in black ink “Masiel, Kochviel, Halbiel. Show me what is on me”. Place the egg under the bed for 3 nights and in the morning of the third night break the egg at the entrance to your house. If there is blood in it, sorcery was indeed performed and if there is no blood, there was no sorcery.

Amulets and Virtues for Revoking Sorcery: A Virtue to Revoke Sorcery: The bewitched person needs to urinate on hot coals and inhale the steam. After performing this action, the coals should be buried far away from the house.

Amulets to Revoke Sorcery: 1. Write on parchment or white fresh paper the following seals:

Then say: “In the name of these seals, no harm will be done to (person’s name and mother’s name) and no act of sorcery or impurity will stick to him". The person needs to keep the amulet in his/her purse or bag for 40 days and then bury it in the ground.

The Male Model from Bat Yam: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) One day, Michal (fictitious name), a girl in her twenties, came to my office and told me a strange story: All her family and friends suspected that her brother, Lior, had married a certain girl because sorcery was performed on him. I asked to see a photo of Lior. He was a very handsome and attractive man, with a good look in his eyes, who made a partial living by working as a model. I asked also to see a photo of the girl Lior had married. To my surprise, I saw a girl who was totally unsuitable for him: Debbie had coarse, hard, facial features lacking in any harmony, a thick, ungainly body and her appearance was disgusting and gave you the shivers. It was interesting to hear from Michal that Lior had fallen hopelessly in love with Debbie and was not prepared to listen to a word said against her. He took no notice of his friends who claimed she did not suit him and he cut off all contact with friends and family who did not like Debbie. He slowly, slowly distanced himself from all those who loved him and withdrew into himself and his strange married life. When I opened the Book of the Zohar, it was clear to me, without any doubt, that intensive sorcery had indeed been performed on Lior – the kind of sorcery that repeats itself once a week in order to maintain and strengthen its effectiveness: Debbie’s mother used to visit them one morning a week and bring them dishes containing various enchanting substances, which caused Lior to stay under their influence blindly. I explained to Michal that it would be very difficult to revoke the strong sorcery performed by Debbie’s mother: The sorcery repeated itself every week without leaving any chance of escaping from its 99

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

influence. The only thing that could help in such a case was either if Debbie’s mother stopped the sorcery on her own initiative or if the sorcery was cancelled by her death. Until the day she visited me, Michal had gone to quite a number of mystics to ask for their help in separating Lior from Debbie. Many of them tried different methods, but not one of which worked, and they took a fortune from Michal in payment. Lior and Debbie stayed married for around 4 years. After 4 years, Debbie’s mother died. At the end of the seven-day period of mourning (shiva), Lior woke up in the morning and looked with sober eyes at his wife lying beside him. He was seized with panic. He quickly dressed, packed a few clothes and quietly left home and went back to his parents’ house, leaving Debbie the apartment and all their joint possessions. His great luck was that Debbie had been unable to conceive from him due to being so overweight. Since then, Lior always wears a pendant to protect him from the evil eye and sorcery.

A Virtue to Revoke Sorcery: The bewitched person should urinate on a nail once a day for three days. On the fourth day, he should affix the nail under his bed and say while attaching the nail: “I insert this nail into the heart, palm and soul of whoever performed this act of sorcery on me, and took away my freedom, which was given to me by the God of Israel. Everything he does to me in future will come back at him and stick to him”. The Amulet The amulet is one of the accessories of the greatest weight in human history. Since ancient times, the amulet was used as a remedy for everyone. This remedy was used also for achieving success and luck and was commonly used amongst the ancient Egyptian gods. These gods regularly wore an amulet around their neck for protection and cure. The use of amulets was copied also in modern times and nowadays many use them. The amulet is characterized by its ability to give the wearer a feeling of protection. An example of this is the use of the amulet by Turkish soldiers, who in the battle field, will not be separated from it even for one moment. An additional example is drawn from the ways of the Sumo warrior, who carries the amulet inside the knot of the diaper on his crotch. As with men, the amulet is also used by women. Pregnant women in Arab countries do not part from the amulet and use it during the entire period of their pregnancy. Over history, amulets become more sophisticated, sometimes becoming jewelry. This is evidenced by the beetle (scarab) which is the most famous amulet in history. The beetle amulet represents a symbol of devotion to the Sun God Ra. In Egyptian belief, the dung beetle was a symbol of the creation of the universe and divinity.

103

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

According to the Kabbalah, Judaism used the same beetle as a symbol of infinity. The Egyptian cross “Ankh”, which has a ring on top, was a very holy amulet like the beetle. This symbol, like the beetle, represented strength and eternity. In Christianity, the cross held a central place as an amulet. From the Middle Ages, they began to make amulets influenced by the Kabbalah which included names of angels or names of God. The Christian mystics also wrote amulets in Hebrew letters, and were inspired by the influence of the Kabbalah. Amulets are divided in general into two central categories: amulets used as jewelry; and amulets based on seals, Angel script and ancient Hebrew script. Amulets that appeared later were considered to bring strength or solve problems for those who wore them. Examples of this may be surveyed from ancient Egypt. In Egypt it was believed that the wearing of snakeskin was a therapeutic virtue. It is likely that the way of the snake in shedding and renewing its skin symbolized rebirth and was connected to medicine. The Egyptian snake goddess, Meretseger was considered the keeper of the Valley of the Kings, and women who could not bear offspring knelt in front of her statue. A snake entwined staff is also a symbol of the Roman god of medicine, Aesculapius. Among the Indian tribes in America, the snake is associated with thunder and lightening. Snake staffs were used by the Indians in ceremonies to bring down the rain and ensure the crops. Other symbols of fertility beside the snake are: fig leaves that serve as a virtue for fertility and for those suffering from sterility (men and women alike), blue cloth – as a virtue for the birth of sons, red cloth as a virtue for the birth of daughters. As can be seen, color itself is a virtue for protection. In the Arab tradition, the color blue was used to expel demons and spirits. This 104

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

use appears in the well-known, Arab “Hamsa” and in mixtures of leaves and all kinds of spices tied in a bundle. Additional uses of protection symbols were taken from the plant world. Various religions used garlic for driving demons away and as a protection against the evil eye. Garlic served as a central component also in ceremonies for exorcising devils. Judaism, unlike other religions, made unique use of its characteristic amulet, namely: the “mezuzah”. In the Jewish home, troubles and sickness are immediately associated with a faulty mezuzah or the absence of a mezuzah. In a number of streams of Judaism, marital harmony and fertility are considered dependent upon the validity of the mezuzah. In certain periods, Jews used to tattoo amulets on their bodies. These customs came to be forbidden by religious leaders who undermined the tattoo as part of the ceremony of sorcery performed by non-Jews. Written amulets usually include passages from the Bible, names of angels and the names of God. In order to write an amulet, Kabbalists emphasize the knowledge of the right combination of holy names and, in parallel – the combination of the names of God (the names of God and the angels are derived from the name of the person and the name of his mother, respectively). Certain amulets contain the swearing in text from ancient Kabbalah scripts. Hebrew amulets are usually written on parchment made from kosher animal skin, but there are those who write amulets on different objects, like branches and leaves, clay bowls and even on the body of the person requesting the amulet.

105

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Permitted and Forbidden Amulets – Amulet Laws: In recent years, many mystics and rabbis dealing with the writing of amulets suddenly appeared. The writing of amulets is a profession in itself and not everybody can write them. Incorrect writing of an amulet is likely to cause a worsening of the problem which prompted the request for an amulet to be made to the writer. The basis for the writing of amulets is the knowledge of the times and dates for writing. The calculation of times and dates of writing requires extensive knowledge in the numerological calculation of the name of the requester, his date of birth and the name of his mother. Any person can write an amulet for himself on any material and even can photocopy any picture that can serve him as an amulet. Everyone can choose any object to serve him as an amulet. The person who receives an amulet may and it is even compulsory to open the amulet given him in order to verify that it is indeed written for him and that there was no mistake in his name or date of birth and the name of his mother. If the possessor of the amulet is told not to open it – it means that the writer of the amulet has something to hide. Even certified scribes can make mistakes. Thus, it is recommended to open the amulet in order to see what was really placed in our hands. An amulet must be written on kosher parchment in kosher ink only. Amulets that a person makes for himself written on simple paper are permitted and are not invalid. Amulets written by a scribe or mystic on paper are considered invalid and are of no value. According to the Kabbalah, women are forbidden to write amulets. How can we know if the amulet is made from parchment or paper? Parchment cannot be torn by hand alone. By trying to tear the amulet, we will know whether it is made from parchment or paper. If it tears – it is paper. 106

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

It is forbidden to enter a cemetery with amulets. There are amulets which are forbidden to be used by women during their menstrual cycle, or are forbidden to be taken into the toilet (thought to be a place of impurity), since amulets contain holy names or name of angels. The scribe of the amulet will specify all the prohibitions when he gives the amulet to the receiver. Amulets which do not comprise the name of the person who ordered them and the name of his mother are not considered amulets, but virtues only. Diverse and varied objects which are industrially manufactured, like the Hamsa, pendants and rings, are not considered amulets, even if they contain holy names, impressed in them. We should be wary of wearing pendants and rings or any other jewelry that contains holy names, God’s name or angels’ names, since we may be unaware that it is forbidden to go to the toilet with such objects and we may not always pay attention to the fact that it is forbidden to take holy names to places of impurity. A large amount of the blockages in our lives comes from the lack of knowledge of such prohibitions.

Forbidden Books of Psalms: The cynical exploitation of holy books for personal and political advertisement knows no bounds. This is common, to my regret, only in Judaism. A Muslim or a Christian would never advertise anything in their holy writings. Advertising in holy books invalidates the book, especially when it is written in the Book of Psalms: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of anything” Books of Psalms with pictures of Rabbis or tombs of the Righteous (Tzadikim) are invalid. Do not carry or use such books. They must be archived.

107

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Completion of Usage of the Amulet: What should we do with an amulet that is no longer used or of interest? Of course, I would not recommend to just throw away the amulet. There are amulets which contain passages from the Torah or special blessings which include names of the owner of the amulet, the names of his family, or holy names or names of angels. Thus, throwing the amulet into the garbage is likely to bring bad luck on its owner. The amulet must be buried in the ground, preferably in a cemetery or next to a cemetery. Amulets that contain passages from the Torah are considered like the Torah scrolls and must be archived or buried. I met a lot of people who threw an old amulet into the garbage and brought upon themselves terrible troubles and general misfortune. Since there are many who are unable to come near the cemetery, it is recommended to archive the amulets in a synagogue. Every synagogue has storage boxes. Improvement in Working Conditions: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Miri (fictitious name), about 35 years old, came to my office. She told me that she had been a factory worker for the last 5 years, and during the whole period suffered from harassment from her work co-workers and direct supervisor. She requested assistance in improving her working conditions, stopping the harassment against her and helping her to be liked by her superiors. In opening the Book of the Zohar, I could not see the continuation of her work at the same factory and the message received was that she would soon find herself in a completely different place.

108

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

I wrote her a seal, an angels swearing amulet, according to her request. After a week, Miri called me and told me that the factory where she worked had closed and that all the workers had been dismissed. From the beginning of the period that the amulet was in Miri’s possession, she and her husband went through difficult times, during which arguments and tensions brought out a lot of anger and resentment. I explained to her that in order to create a new reality in her life, she needed to pass a period of cleansing and purifying the negative energies which she had been experiencing for a long time. The placing of the amulet in her possession accelerated the process. At the end of a period of 40 days from the date she received the amulet, Miri informed me that she had found a new place of work, and that she was very happy in her work there. The atmosphere at home had calmed down and she was enjoying peace and harmony. Homemade Amulets (From an article in Yediot Ahronot on Y-Net) We wash the floor so that our house will be clean from dirt, but how can we “wash away” negative energies from our home? Following are some tips for preparing homemade amulets from the kabbalist Itzhak Mizrahi

Achieving Peace and Tranquility among the family Members: Take a white handkerchief and write on it the names of the people who live in the house according to the order of their ages, from oldest to youngest. Add the numbers which make up the date of birth of each one, so that the final number, which is a single number, is his lucky number. 109

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

For example: The date of birth is 20.11.1974, 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 4 = 25, 2+ 5 = 7. 7 is the lucky number. Under each name, write the lucky number, and then add the lucky numbers of all the members of the house and the final number, which is a single number, is the lucky number of the house. Write this on the handkerchief as well. Take a few grains of sugar and grains of rice, and put them in the handkerchief. Wrap it into a bundle and tie the handkerchief with a red string. Put the amulet under the mattress of each one of the members of the house for the number of days which signifies the lucky number of the house. For example: If the lucky number was 6, put it for six days for every member of the house. Transfer the bundle according to the order of ages from oldest to youngest.

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

The Evil Eye The phenomenon named the “evil eye” is well known to us all. What is the root of the damage caused by it? How can we protect ourselves from it? The human being has the power to inflict damage on others in three ways: in a deed, that is to say, an act performed with his hands and feet; in speech – by spreading slander, gossip, and the like, and also by cursing. Both positive and negative thoughts about someone else have considerable power, as we shall see later. Firstly – we need to understand how the curse works. As soon as a person utters a blessing or curse, the words that are said are sometimes picked up by certain angels who have the power to elevate them to heaven – to the spiritual echelons. In the case of a blessing, if it is the opportune time, it will perform its action, and its effect and influence will come down to the materialistic strata. In the case of a curse, God forbid, the words that were said evoke a denunciation of the person and cause his notebook above to be opened and checked. If he does not have enough merits in his favor, severe judgment can, God forbid, catch up with him. Thus, the Sages of Blessed Memory (Chazal) said “Do not take lightly the blessing of a layman in your eyes”, because even if things were emitted from a simple man’s mouth, they sometimes have the power to make an influence between good and evil. Secondly – I will explain how a person can cause damage by his thoughts. The Book of the Zohar points out that when a person looks at others with the evil eye – that is to say, with envy – immediately an angel of destruction takes possession of the eye and can harm the person who

111

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

is being looked at. This is because the moment a person’s thoughts are evil, evil also wants to stick to him. Furthermore, if the person wants to transgress: the sin looks for an object to stick to. Thus the Sages of Blessed Memory (Chazal) said that the eyes are the pimps of crime since through the eyes the person is attracted to sin. Therefore, if a person wishes to become spiritually purified, he must actually begin by protecting the eyes. How Does the Evil Eye Cause Damage? Everything in Creation has a pipeline from heaven through which it receives its vitality. Through this pipeline, the heavily abundance transcends to man. However, there are things that are capable of weakening or endangering this channel even if for a brief moment. For example, a person who enters a dangerous place, because he knowingly exposed himself to danger, causes his notebook in the higher echelons to be opened and checked, in order to determine if he has accumulated enough merits to make a miracle for him and save him, or not. From this we learn that the “evil eye” can weaken this channel of abundance, thus causing the person quite a large part of the various troubles in his life. From the words of the Sages of Blessed Memory (Chazal), “No blessing is but what is hidden from view” the explanation is brought to us that anything conspicuous that the eye can see, endangers us in weakening the channel of abundance. This happens because the angel of destruction stuck to the eye of the person, whose thoughts are evil and his eyes are evil in themselves. There are certain virtues that are useful in rescuing us from the evil eye and even revoking it, but this is not the place to extend and elaborate on this. The best thing to do is to keep away from a situation that is likely to attract the “evil eye” to a person. 112

The person who harms others by his evil eye is not usually aware that he is causing damage. My advice, therefore, is that everyone should get into the habit of looking at everything with a good eye and not from hatred or envy. Thus, the words of King Solomon in the Book of Proverbs (22:9) will be carried out: “He that has a bountiful eye shall be blessed”.

Diagnosing the Evil Eye: According to Jewish tradition, everyone has the possibility to check whether the evil eye is on him or not. One of the ways of checking the evil eye is with the aid of oil and water. Fill a bowl with water and place it under the bed or next to the bed, near your feet for one night. In the morning before any action, take a tablespoon of oil (preferably virgin olive oil) and pour it slowly on to the water in the bowl. If all the oil floats on the top of the water, it means that the evil eye is not cast on you. If part of the oil sinks (a few drops), it means that it is very likely that you have the evil eye on you. If all the oil sinks, it is likely that sorcery was performed on you.

An Amulet against the Evil Eye – For the Business: Take a pinch of salt and 7 garlic cloves. Write on fresh white paper the following seals:

Wrap the salt, garlic and paper in white cloth and tie it with white and blue string. Hide it in the business in a place not visible to the public.

An Amulet against the Evil Eye – For the Home: Thread 7 cloves of garlic on a red string, like a necklace. Wrap in red cloth and place in a visible place in the house. It may be hung in the entrance to the house, over the entrance door.

To Remove the Evil Eye from Children: Write the name of the child and the name of his mother on a white egg with a black marker pen. Add his date of birth without commas or spaces. For example: If he was born on 12.8.2006, write 1282006 without spaces or additions. Leave the egg under the child’s bed for 3 nights. On the fourth night, while the child is sleeping, break the egg on the ground, cover it with sand and say: “Here shall be buried the evil eye that stuck to (say the name of the child and the name of his mother). Afterwards, wash your hands thoroughly.

An Amulet against the Evil Eye on Children: Write on an egg the name of the child, his Hebrew date of birth and the name of his mother. Place the egg (uncooked), spread with honey and wrapped in tin foil, under the bed of the child and leave it there for 7 days. After seven days, burn the egg in the tin foil, far away from the house and say: “This egg will be atonement for the sins of 114

(say the name of the child) and a protection against the evil eye and any harm”. Repeat this process twice a year. This action will protect the child from the evil eye throughout the year.

An Amulet against the Evil Eye on a Woman: Tie a red string around the big toe of the right foot and a blue string around the big toe of the left foot for 3 days every month. The three days must be consecutive. This action will remove the evil eye and protect against it throughout the month.

An Amulet against the Evil Eye on a Relationship: Write the names of the couple and the names of their parents on a bay leaf or fig leaf. Wrap it in tin foil and hide in the house. If the amulet is discovered by anyone, it needs to be prepared anew. This action will protect the relationship from jealousy and the evil eye.

A Silver Chain against the Evil Eye: The wearing of a simple silver chain without any pendant will protect us from the evil eye. When the evil eye is cast on the person wearing the necklace, the chain is likely to break without any visible reason. In such a case, the chain should be thrown away in the garbage and you should take care to use a suitable amulet.

For Protection against the Evil Eye: On many occasions we feel that guests who come to our houses cast an evil eye on the house, or leave negative energies after them which cause arguments and restlessness in the house and among the family members. The best, tried and tested way to neutralize all influence of such people and generally to protect the members of the house from any guest who is likely to leave negative tracks is to light candles before these guests arrive. This action will purify the house and prevent the evil eye or negative energies. You should light the candles opposite the entrance to the house and before the guests arrive.

A Virtue for a Woman to Protect her Relationship against the Evil Eye and Separation: Take a few leaves of green, fresh, hyssop (zaatar), dip them in honey and wrap everything in tin foil. Place a photo of the couple in white cloth and wrap it with the leaves dipped in honey. It is advisable for the woman to keep this small bundle in her bedroom in a hidden place. It is recommended to repeat this action at least twice a year in order to preserve the relationship for a long time.

Advice: If a person has nightmares for 3 consecutive nights, he should say three times running: "Shadai, Raphael, Raziel”, and he will sleep soundly, the sleep of the just and have sweet dreams.

Dybbuk What is a Dybbuk? In the sources of the Sages of Blessed Memory (Chazal), the dybbuk is called “spirit of madness”. Mostly, these are spirits of people who passed from the world without completing their rectification (tikkun) that is to say, whatever was imposed on them from heaven to do for their benefit - and they seek a human body to enter, so that they can complete the rectification on the material level. According to various mystic beliefs, the dybbuk is a phenomenon whereby the spirit of the deceased penetrates the body of a living person and takes control of him. According to some of these beliefs, the dead spirit is permitted to do so as a result of the sins of the living person. The spirit of the deceased asks for asylum, so to speak, in the body of the living person from the demons that harm it. Yet, it is stated in the Book of the Zohar that Rabbi Yehuda said: “The spirits of those who committed the sin are the ones who cling to the living”. The evil spirit sticks to a person to cause him sickness and harm or to hide from the destructive blows of his superiors “and can enter sometimes the body of a living person, without the permission of his superiors”. The phenomena expressed by a person overcome by a dybbuk are as follows: Aggression towards others and towards oneself; twitching of the body; twitching of the face and rolling the eyes back; loss of consciousness; speech in a language and syllables that are incomprehensible; cursing; expressing disgust of different religious and social values; etc.

In Judaism, belief in dybbuk is considered to be part of the Kabbalah, and it was very common amongst the Jews of Eastern Europe. In Christianity, also, there is belief in dybbuks: In England, they distinguish between “dybbuk”, the Jewish term, and “possession” although there is no significant difference between the descriptions of both phenomena. What Damage is caused by the Dybbuk? Not more than two generations ago, lived the Kabbalist Rabbi Yehuda Patia, of blessed memory, who dedicated a considerable part of his life to the care and treatment of spirits that stuck to living people. In his book “Offering of Judah” (Minchat Yehuda) he brings dozens of testimonies on dybbuks and spirits that he extracted from people that approached him. In his book, he wrote that “Sometimes the dybbuk causes a person sorrow and sickness, without a remedy, and sometimes the dybbuk causes the person to have evil thoughts like adultery, heresy, and the like. Great exertion is required to remove this dybbuk … The dybbuk that enters a person does not let him do things that he himself would not like to do, like smoke cigars or drink liquor.”

Why Does the Dybbuk Invade a Person? Rabbi Yehuda Patia adds that the dybbuk invades a person either “to torment him for a transgression he committed and though entrance is easy, removal requires great effort” or “to go inside in order to escape the demons’ blows.”

What Can Assist in Expelling the Dybbuk? The Sages of Israel, because of their many virtues, succeeded in taking out dybbuks by swearing in, banishment and placing amulets of the holy names on the inflicted. “…when the particular spirit hears the chanting, it hurts him and brings him more agony than the blows of the demons and the flagellations of the grave”. Why are there Few Cases of Dybbuks Today - Unlike in the Past? In the past, dybukks were sharp and glaring proof for all to see, of the existence of reward and punishment, as mentioned in the Torah. Nowadays – there is no need for the phenomenon of the dybbuk to prove the free will of man. The form of the leadership of the Almighty in modern times is hidden and not revealed, thus unnatural phenomena of this kind diminished. Moreover, it is likely that in heaven spirits of the dead are prevented from invading the living, since nowadays there are few who have the ability to extract them. Are there Testimonies Describing Cases of Expelling Dybbuks? Rabbi Shmuel Vital tells in the introduction of “the Gate of Reincarnations” (Shaar HaGilgulim) about his personal experience in taking out a dybbuk: “Thursday, in July, 1666 in Egypt, there was a case of a spirit that entered a young girl, Esther, daughter of Rabbi Yehuda Weiser. She was lying like a stone covered with a white sheet and Rabbi Weiser told me that a spirit had entered her and he asked me to take it out from her body with my wisdom, from what was decreed on me in heaven. I called a dozen wise scholars and directed my powers to rectify the soul and spirit, and immediately as I finished the word “Go out!” three times, her leg was lifted upwards in front of all the people and the dybbuk went out from her small toe”. 119

The movie “the Exorcist” tells about a young girl of 12 could Regan who discovers supernatural powers, like the ability to hover in the air. Her mother tries to find a medical cure for her daughter, but to no avail. She requests the help of the priest Damien Karras. Karras is convinced that a dybbuk has taken possession of the girl and asks another priest, Father Merrin, to perform an exorcism. From my experience, the most effective treatment for dybbuks is the writing of a King Solomon’s seal in the name of the sick person, the name of his mother and his Hebrew date of birth. The seal needs to be written according to determined dates and times and placed next to the sick person. Additional ways of expelling a dybbuk are swearing in of angels and prayers next to the sick person. It is recommended that at least 3 rabbis are present in such ceremonies. This is actually the action of exorcising a soul that invaded the body and took it over.

The Dybbuk: (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) Ada (fictitious name), an elderly ultra-orthodox woman, came to my office with her son. Her reason for coming was that she had been experiencing unusual, strange feelings and physical phenomena in her body and soul unexpected behavior, sentences that came out of her mouth without control, and in extreme cases also heretical thoughts about her religion. The rabbi of her community thought that her body had been possessed by a dybbuk, and since he knew me as an expert in the treatment of releasing trapped souls he recommended that Ada should contact me. After I opened the Book of the Zohar, it became clear that indeed a dybbuk possessed Ada and the soul that resided in her body was the soul of a man who in her youth she had promised to marry. 120

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

His name was Baruch, a boy who was passionately in love with her in the days of their youth. Baruch’s family and Ada’s family were neighbors and the youngsters were deeply in love and decided to marry. For reasons beyond her control, Ada’s family had to leave for another city. In time, due to the geographical distance and the difficulty to keep in touch with Baruch, Ada forgot her promise to marry him, moved on with her life and married another man. The disappointed Baruch stayed emotionally faithful to Ada although he married someone else and set up a family. At a mature age (over 60), Ada started to feel all the symptoms she told me about. It appears that during the same period, Baruch died and his troubled soul which had not fulfilled its love, penetrated Ada’s body. I decided to write a seal for the release of souls, to be hung in Ada’s room. After three months from the day of receiving the seal, Baruch’s soul was released from Ada's body and she testifies to the fact that she came back to herself.

The Book of Secrets (Sepher Ha-Razim) The Book of Secrets is one of the greatest and most significant books of secrets in Judaism and in particular in mysticism and the Kabbalah. The book is one of the most ancient Jewish mystical books and its source is from the time of the Talmud. According to what is written at the beginning of the text, the book was given to Noah, the son of Lemech, by the Angel Raziel, written in sapphire stone, and it gives 121

detailed instructions on how to perform miracles, extensive knowledge on everything concerning the science of the upper strata, the seven heavens, names of angels that operate in them and their roles. In the Book of Secrets, there is a large variety of amulets, virtues, angels and demons swearing in order to achieve different goals, such as: good health; fertility; livelihood; pairing of couples; and success. There are very few people who know how to interpret what is written in the Book of Secrets and to make use of it.

ANA BEKOACH

The prayer “Ana Bekoach” is one of the strongest and most powerful in Judaism, from the point of view of its energetic frequency. It would not be an exaggeration if I say it has the ability to literally “raise you to the skies”. This is due to the combinations of the holy letters hidden between the lines. It is recommended to say the prayer “Ana Bekoach” every morning or before an important event, a romantic date, job interview, etc., as the Holy Ari instructs. After saying the prayer “Ana Bekoach” in the morning, it may be said during the day however many times you wish, without any limit. You can say it before an important task, whenever a special problem occurs, or in any event in which there is need to communicate with the higher realms. These higher realms are worlds in which our strength and our awareness are unlimited and we can be opened to everything new - worlds in which there are unlimited possibilities, abundance, knowledge, awareness and inspiration. The prayer “Ana Bekoach” helps us to open up to everything coming from these worlds. 122

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Throughout generations, the prayer “Ana Bekoach” was of great importance amongst Kabbalists and mystics who knew the tremendous role of the combination of letters in the prayers in our life. Thus, it is possible to find “Ana Bekoach” set inside amulets, signs in the synagogue and illustrated windows, in order to give strength and help us to elevate to the upper worlds. In fact, the main aim of our spiritual work is to elevate ourselves beyond the limitations of the five senses and to remind ourselves every day that the materialistic world does not limit us and that our awareness has the ability to climb up beyond matter.

72 Names of God

What are the 72 Names? In Judaism, God has no name, since He is something beyond definition. The word “God” in Hebrew (“Elokim”) is made up of the words, God (El), goddess (Elah) and gods (Elim), i.e. singular, feminine and plural. The word “Jehovah” in Hebrew is a combination of the Hebrew words for “was”, “is” and “will be”. This, in fact, comes to show us that our conception of time as past, present and future is an illusion – everything that exists is the same thing that is found beyond good and evil or any other definition.

The miracle of the crossing of the Red Sea is one of the most important in the history of the Jewish people: The Children of Israel are at a dead end and do not know where to turn. In front of them stretches the Red Sea, behind them the army of Pharaoh. They turn to Moses, in desperation. Moses turns to God. God gives a surprising answer – simply go into the Red Sea – trust in me, Moses and yourselves and the miracle will truly happen. The secret of deciphering the 72 names: Once a year on the Day of Atonement, when the Temple was still standing, the High Priest would mortify himself and dress in white. The masses would wait outside the Temple. This day was the only day in the year that he would enter the inner sanctum, where the Holy of Holies was kept, inside which was the original Ark of the Covenant from the wanderings of the Children of Israel in the desert. The High Priest would utter the 72 names of God according to a secret formula that passed down from one High Priest to another only. The Formula: The way that the names are abstracted from the passages, is by writing the middle passage from end to beginning and placing the passages one on top of another: Every three letter column combination indicates a name of God. There are those who believe that the combination of these letters in Kabbalistic virtues relates to solving problems in all walks of life. They represent the link between the spiritual and material worlds. The combination of the letters connects us to the source of power by means of which we can control all the aspects of our lives and change them for the better. All that is needed is to look at them and whisper them and their mighty strength will be revealed. 129

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

The 72 names of God originate from three passages in the book of Exodus, Chapter 14:

Passage 19: “And the angel of God which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went before their face, and stood behind them”. Passage 20: “And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night”. Passage 21: “And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided”. If we write these three passages without spacing, when they are in a chain shape (passage 19 from right to left, passage 20 from left to right and passage 21 from right to left, we get the following arrangement: ‫ויסעמלאךהאלהיםוילךלפנימחנהישראלוילךמאחריהםויסעעמודהענןמפניהםויעמדמאחריהם‬ ‫הלילהלכהזלאהזברקאלוהלילהתאראיוךשחהוןנעהיהיולארשיהנחמןיבוםירצמהנחמןיבאביו‬ ‫ויטמשהאתידועלהיםויולךיהוהאתהיםברוחקדיםעזהכלהלילהוישםאתהיםלחרבהויבקעוהמים‬

Now, if we read the combination of letters from top to bottom, we will receive 72 words of three letters each. These are the 72 names of God. Among them, can be found the words “Ray” and “Uum”, known as Indian mantra. 130

Demons

Identification and Protection from Demons: The demon, to distinguish from an evil spirit, is a being that was created on the sixth day at twilight according to Jewish belief and the written sources. The whole role of the demon is to disrupt the lives of humankind on earth. Demons do not have the ability to physically harm people, but only frighten or cause bad luck in the house where they reside. What Are the Signs for Identifying Demons at Home? The most common sign is the disappearance of objects without any logical reason and finding them in another place after a while (sometimes after a few days). It is customary to say about a lost object that the demons hid it. Additional signs of demons are: light breezes in the house, when the doors and windows are closed and there is no reason for wind entering; a strange odor (usually unpleasant) coming without a reason and disappearing; objects falling and breaking without any reason or that stood in a steady place, as if an invisible hand pushed them; the cracking of a glass object for no reason; opening or closing of doors and windows (mainly closet doors in the house). Usually, demons spend many hours of the day in the toilet, but they are not active during the day. Back in the Middle Ages, it was known that demons do not like to be near metal – any type of metal. Thus, the likelihood that demons will be present in our times in modern houses is low, since in every house or room there is nowadays a higher 131

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

percentage of metal than there was once. Nevertheless, there are still houses or rooms without metal of any kind and in such places the likelihood of finding a demon is higher. Wooden sheds and storerooms are an ideal place for demons. Thus, there is a belief that a horseshoe with seven holes is a virtue against demons and the evil eye. To this very day, it is customary in many villages in Europe to fix a horseshoe over the door of the house or storeroom, if it is made of wood. One of the most common ways to identify demons at home is to scatter flour around the bed before sleeping and in the morning to check if there are footsteps of a chicken or goat. This way was known in the Middle Ages, since it was thought that demons have chicken or goats’ feet.

Ways to Protect Ourselves from Demons: Most of the ways to protect ourselves from demons are similar to the ways for protecting ourselves from the evil eye. The color blue is known as a color which signifies the sky and demons are known to reside in darkness. Hence, in the Arab tradition, it was customary to color the doors of houses blue in order to expel the demons. The blue eye is also used as an amulet for expelling demons. Three garlic cloves, tied together in linen material constitute a barrier for demons, and of course – the horseshoe is known for its power to expel demons from the house. A ceremony for purifying the house drives away the demons that reside there. As I previously mentioned, a variety of different types of metals keeps demons away from the house.

The Power of the Names and the Letters The Hebrew letters constitute the internal genetic code of all of Creation. They make up the internal essence of the upper spiritual energy, a force that is drawn from the highest spiritual strata on to the material world. Every combination of letters contains within itself the energy that carries the meaning of all the letters together – therefore, a name made up of a certain combination of letters represents a unique essence.

What is the hidden energy of the Hebrew Alphabet? Every letter of the Hebrew alphabet has an energetic meaning. As each digit has its own energetic meaning, so does the letter as well: Every letter in our name has a meaning. It tells us a story about ourselves and by understanding the meaning, we can bring ourselves to a higher awareness. In fact, every person can take the letters of his name and check what they tell him about his inner being. According to the Kabbalah, the letters making up the names given to a person have a lot of meaning about his character, luck and the role of the soul in our world. According to the Jewish faith, the one who decides the name of the newborn child is God. He is the one who determines the fate of the soul by the name he puts in the mouths of the parents. The parents are used as a vessel only for giving the name and there is a saying: “the Rabbi can help with everything, except giving the name”. Every one of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet has tremendous magical power - each letter represents a number of elements in the universe. 134

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Names given to people in the name of a deceased relative are given out of the wish to remember or pass on the attributes of the deceased – the good and the bad together. In a number of ethnic groups in Judaism, it is not customary to give newborn babies the names of people that are still alive for fear that the baby, or the living person after whom he is named, will die earlier than expected. Names given to newborn babies without the consent of both parents can disrupt or disturb the function of the newborn during his life, impair his destiny or the role of the soul which came back for rectification (tikkun) and received a name that does not suit its purpose. In Judaism, it was customary from time immemorial to change names of children who developed various sicknesses in their childhood or were born with defects. There are those who favor adding a name or letter to the existing name in order to change the fate of the newborn baby or person in his maturity. The decision to change a name or add letters needs to be made by someone who has the capability to calculate and to know the meaning of the existing name and the meaning of the change, as I will elaborate later. Every letter has a good and evil magical force. The change of letter in a name, for better or worse, needs to be balanced in a way that will change the name to a positive one and so open the luck of the person for good and for the true purpose of the soul in its current incarnation. When discussing the strength of the letters in the name of a person, only his private name is taken into consideration. The meaning of the family name is inferior and, all in all, just assists in identifying a person in society. 135

The Fates of Ahitophel Ahitophel the Gilonite, (a citizen of the city Giloh), was a biblical figure of great wisdom. He was the advisor of King David and afterwards the advisor of his son Absalom. His son, Eliam was one of the thirty mighty men of David (Samuel II, 23:34). The expression “advice of Ahitophel” signifies bad advice, which can be misleading, but the truth of the matter is that the advice of Ahitophel was good and correct advice, as the Bible testifies: “And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, the counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahitophel. For the Lord had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahitophel , to the intent that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom.” Samuel II, 17:14) The table of the Fates of Ahitophel was found in ancient manuscript in Yemen, and it is said that once a king decreed an evil sentence on the people of Israel and they fasted until this table was revealed to them. It is a great secret according to the Kabbalah and it is tried and tested. In this table it is possible to ask anything and it will give the correct and true answer, but there are a few limitations and restrictions of how to use it: - It requires concentration of thought and quietness at the time of the question; - It should not be asked in jest, because otherwise it will give another answer; - You can ask only once a day; - You may only ask one question and no more; 146

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

- You cannot repeat the same question again, except after a period of 28 days; - The question must be asked only at the hour that there is sunlight and not after sunset; - You may not ask the question on the Sabbath and not when the Sabbath goes out, because you will not receive the right answer. Before raising the question, you need to say: “God is a part of my being and my existence, and he will encourage me and take care of my livelihood and destiny. God please help me with this deed that I am about to do and my way will be successful because you are with me”. Ask the question out loud and place one finger on the table while your eyes are closed – and the answer will be at your fingertip.

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Angels The Angel: Jacob fought with an angel. The angel is a supernatural being, existing according to the beliefs of various religions, including Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Usually, the angel is described as a heavenly, spiritual creature, sent to perform a divine mission, or as a messenger transmitting the word of God to human beings (similar to the human prophet).

The Concept of the Angel in Judaism: In Judaism, the initial meaning of the word “angel” was “messenger”; but due to the repeated references to “Angel of the Lord” in the Bible, the current, religious meaning was added. Angels also appear in human form and they have the power to be visible or invisible. In the Bible, many revelations of angels before human beings are introduced. For example: the three angels who were sent by God to Abraham; the angel who came to tell Manoah about the birth of his son Samson. According to the Sages of Blessed Memory (Chazal), when Joseph looked for his brother, he met a man who was actually the Angel Gabriel in the figure of a man. Warning: According to one of the beliefs of Judaism, you must not pronounce the names of angels out loud, from fear that if they are called by name they are likely to appear and when they see that they were called for nothing, they will hurt the person who called them.

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

Traditionally, angels were created on different days of the week according to types. On the first day of the Creation of the world, the “Angels of Mercy” were created and they enjoy eternal existence as immortals due to their day of formation. On the second day of the Creation, the “Angels of Judgment” were created and among them the Angel of Death. On the fifth day of the Creation, all the other angels were created, while man was created only on the sixth day. According to one of the opinions, God creates angels for a certain mission, and when they complete this, they are immediately cancelled. At the head of the entourage of the arch angels stands Metatron (who was given 70 names) and he is the supernatural figure closest to divinity. According to the Book of the Zohar, he looks like the figure Ezekiel saw in a vision, who is sitting on the seat of a chariot and is known as “the little man”. Furthermore, according to legendary tradition, a man can sometimes become an angel, as in the case of Hanoch, mentioned in the Book of Genesis, for his elevation in purity. However, unlike Hanoch, the angels “Aza” and “Azael” descended from the world of creation to the world of action since they objected to Hanoch’s ascension to Heaven. Moreover, they took for themselves “daughters of men” as is told in the Book of Genesis (6:2-4) and fell into the temptation of the material world. According to the interpretation (Midrash) of Genesis, even plants have their own angel responsible for them, looking after them, and directing their destiny. It is said that there is no angel with two missions. Ministering angels sing once a day. A person who does a good deed (miztvah) creates in this a good angel. 161

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

The Book of the Zohar distinguishes between ministering angels and angels of destruction, between angels and mercy and angels of judgment and between angels of male character (influential and leaders) and angels of female character (influenced and led). In the Talmud and in Kabbalistic literature, there are different types of nicknames for angels, such as Seraph, Cherub, Arel and more. The Cherubim are terrifying angels of destruction. Their appearance is described in the vision of Ezekiel, the Prophet. They are described as four-winged animals with four faces: “And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth face of an eagle” (Ezekiel 10:14). Their role was to carry the divine carriage. Furthermore, they were positioned in order to prevent entry back into the Garden of Eden. The Seraphim are celestial beings created from burning substance. “Each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he did fly“(Isaiah 6: 2) and they proclaim to one another about God: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory”, according to the vision of Isaiah, the Prophet, (Isaiah 6:3). The Hebrew name “Seraphim” found its way also to Latin – “Seraphus”. Angels appear in their first names as well. For example: Gabriel - The angel of bravery and fire, minister of bravery, minister of judgment, stands on the left side of God at the Throne of Glory and expresses the face of the lion in Ezekiel’s vision.

Michael – The angel of kindness and spirit, minister of art, song and creation, stands on the right of the Throne of Glory and expresses the face of a bull in the vision of Ezekiel. Uriel – The angel of justice, light and wisdom, in command of the army of angels and the netherworld, stands behind the Throne of Glory and manifests as an eagle in Ezekiel’s vision. Raphael – the angel of kindness, the best of angels, in charge of healing: he cured Abraham after he was circumcised and Sarai before her pregnancy with Itzhak. His place is behind the throne of Glory and he manifests as a figure with the face of a man in the vision of Ezekiel. These four angels represent the four winds of Heaven, the four streams that flowed from the Garden of Eden and the four elements of the universe (according to the Kabbalah – fire, water, air and earth), and the four letters of the Hebrew name of God. Use of the Names of Angels in Practical Kabbalah: A person, who writes the names of the angels according to the letters of his name on kosher parchment, will increase his luck by seven and will be protected from all evil. Every angel’s name chosen is good, because his luck brought him to choose it. The parchment needs to be kept in a purse or hung around the neck. For example: Bar B - Barot A -Adir R - Raziel 163

Divine Power (A true case treated by Itzhak Mizrahi) This story comes to emphasize the fact that sometimes, in spite of all our efforts and endeavors to bring back love and make changes in our lives, there still exists that same divine power which determines things. Hila (fictitious name) aged 22, came to me after she had been in a serious relationship with Yuval for 4 years, during which they lived together for two years. Hila and Yuval were a long-standing, steady couple and everyone among their friends and family knew that they were destined for one another and that the date of their wedding was approaching. They even planned where they would go to for their honeymoon. A few months before the planned wedding (which was supposed to take place when Yuval finished his studies), Hila came to me crying hysterically and told me that Yuval had suddenly and without any reason cut off all connection between them. She was in great distress, because she already imagined herself and Yuval as a married couple surrounded by children, just as all her friends and family had expected. As a first step, I opened the Book of the Zohar in order to check if there was good compatibility between Hila and Yuval. I discovered that they were a very well suited couple, and there was no blockage and no external, negative action had been performed against them which was likely to cause their separation. As an initial treatment, I wrote for Hila a seal for the return of love. After 40 days from the day I wrote the seal, there was no 169

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

improvement in the situation and Yuval had still not renewed contact with Hila. In view of this lack of success, I decided that a ceremony of particularly great force needed to be performed to bring back the love. The ceremony was complicated and powerful and included the photos of each one of the couple and the use of various Kabbalistic materials. A ceremony like this takes place in exact and strict timing – usually on Thursday night before midnight, and is an especially powerful rectification ceremony during which prayers and incantations are uttered. After I performed this ceremony, the results we anticipated were not achieved. There was not only no progress at all in the situation – but, in fact, quite the opposite. Yuval did not soften and did not show any desire to return to Hila and started to respond to her approaches in a cold and hostile manner. Needless to say, Hila was suffering badly and was in a very poor state of deep mental and emotional distress, but I felt that there was something happening that I could not control. About 4 weeks after the performance of the ceremony, Hila came to me very troubled and agitated and told me the following story: A couple of their mutual friends had married a few days previously. Hila and Yuval were invited as a couple, of course. Due to the circumstances, Hila decided to go to the event alone, and was surprised to discover that Yuval, who was a close friend of the bridegroom did not arrive. She supposed that the reason for this was Yuval’s lack of desire to be in her company, but she also felt deep down that something untoward had happened.

170

The Secrets of Practical Kabbalah ………………………….. Itzhak Mizrahi

The day after the wedding, Hila learned that Yuval was involved in an accident on the way to the wedding and was killed… My immediate intuition about the chain of events was that, were it not for this separation, Hila was going to be in the car together with Yuval and it was likely that she would also have lost her life. It appears that it was written above that her time to die had not yet arrived and the Almighty intended it to be this way. Yuval would have to leave her so that she could stay alive.

KABBALAH MATERIALS

The use of mystical materials has been known since the time of Ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptians used to concoct materials taken from plant life for various goals, such as: sorcery; medical usages, materials for luck and success, etc. Each material had its own virtue, way of use and unique method of operation. The secret of concocting the materials was not published openly, but passed down from generation to generation, usually between family members or between members of the Egyptian priesthood whose main specialization was sorcery. These materials were extremely powerful, and could give enormous strength to the person holding them, and therefore the essential knowhow was hidden and only very few got to work with them. No-one knows where the use of Kabbalistic materials began. It is only known that a large part of these materials appear in the Kabbalah and in various religious books. The most common use of Kabbalistic and mystical materials from ancient times and till this very day is in the countries of North Africa, Morocco, Libya and Egypt, but also in other countries, such as Yemen, Iran (formerly Persia), Syria and other Arab countries, use is made of mystical and sorcery materials. As stated, the preparation of the mixtures of Kabbalistic materials is kept in secret, since the mixing of the different materials on certain days of the month and exact dates will cause the material to act 172

according to the desire of the person concocting it, which gives it enormous powers. The number of the materials that make up the mixtures and the exact dosage require thought at the highest level and are the secret of success for the mixture to be effective on the person on whom we wish it to act. Following are a number of Kabbalistic materials, the secret of which was passed down from generation to generation in my family.
