GERMAN QUARTETS EDITOR'S NOTES It is with great pride that Southern Music Company and The Complete Homist
present this wonderful collection of 88 Gertnan horn quartets. Originally edited by Heinz Iiebert and published by Hofmeister of Leipzig, it includes hunting tunes, waltzes, lieder, opera excerpts, folk songs, hymns, Christmas pieces, and marches. The fourth hom part is old notation bass clef. In all German titles that use the character ccS", it is pronouced like, and may be interchanged with, the two letters ccss". Following is a glossary of German terms used in this edition: ausdrucksvoll: expressive besinnlich: reflective, contemplative bewegt: moved, rather fast breit: broad et.rangen: hurry, urge forward duster: melancholy, gloomy, somber etwas: somewhat· feierlich: solemn, c.eremonious frei: free frisch: fresh, brisk, lively frohlich: merry, cheerful, geheimnisvoll: mysterious, mystical gemutlich: genial, easy-going geschwind: quick, fast getragen: sustained, slow, measured innig: heartfelt, sincere kriiftig: strong, robust, powerful tandler: a country dance in 3/4 time, a slow waltz langsam: slow langsamer: slower March, 1988 Houston, Texas
