THE SACRED RIVER The river Ganges starts star ts in west India and travels through the north into Bangladesh. It isn’t very ver y long: 2,520km. The Nile and the Amazon are longer, but the Ganges is very important to the people in India. 400 longer, 40 0 million people live near this river. It gives them food and water to use for washing their clothes clothes or having ha ving a bath.
