That’s right. You see, our mums were friends. In fact, they still are friends. You could say that our families are friends. True. Our families often do things together, like celebrating birthdays, going out and that sort of thing. And sometimes holidays too. Do you remember that holiday we had in Spain? Yes, that was really good fun. We had a great time! Anyway, we’ve grown up together, more or less. We’ve always been to the same schools, but we’re in different classes now. I don’t think we really have the same interests, though. I’m really into sport – swimming, netball, athletics. You don’t like sport much, right? No, I don’t. don’t. Music’s my thing. Music Music lessons and playing with my band. So, when people say you need to share the same interests as your friends, that’s just not true.

No, it isn’t. We haven’t got the same personalities, either. You’re easy-going and patient whereas I’m very energetic but a bit impatient and sometimes moody. So why are we best friends? Nathan  Good question. I think it’s because we understand each other. I can talk to you about lots of different things, good and bad, and I think you know how I’m feeling. Kitty Definitely. It’s been a brilliant adventure! We’re a family but we’re also a team and each person has different responsibilities. That’s right. Dad’s very practical. He’s the car mechanic and he repairs things. He’s also the cook. Mum’s the person who plans the journeys and chooses the places to go. She writes our blog and she also helps Daniel and me with our

projects.

and then we’d join some other children to listen to a story. Now I read mostly fiction fi ction – all types of novels. I read at any time of the day but my favourite time is reading in bed before I go to sleep.

Pres.  What’s your job, Daniel? Daniel  I’m the official photographer and artist. I’m

keeping a photo diary. Pres.  Have you kept the photo diary since the beginning of the trip? Daniel No, I was too young then! I’ve been doing it for about four years. Every day, I take photos of all the things that we’ve done and seen. Pres.  And what about you, Kate? I’m the scientist! I’m interested in nature and Kate I’ve been taking photos of all the trees, foliage and fungus we find. Then I do the research and tell the others. Pres.

That’s really interesting, but have you been to school since the start of your trip? Daniel That’s the question people always ask us! We’ve been to school in some of the countries we’ve visited. When we stop in one place for a few months, we go to the local school. Pres.  Has language ever been a problem? Not really. We’ve met lots of people who speak Kate  English, luckily. Pres.  What have you learnt from your travels? Daniel I think we’ve learnt more from visiting different countries than from lessons at school! Our parents want us to see how other cultures Kate  live. They think that this is the best way of learning about world. We so haven’t a lot of exams butthe we’ve learnt muchpassed from our experiences.

I’ve always loved reading. When I was little, my mum and dad used to read us stories a lot. Mum would take my brother and me to the library once a week. I can remember it really well. We would choose our books

Sanjay

I read a lot but I don’t usually read fiction. The only novels I read are for English lessons at school. Some of the books we read are OK but I don’t enjoy them much. I’m really into science and technology. I like finding out how things work, so those are the sort of books I read. At the moment, I’m reading about the invention of the first aeroplanes. I’ve also read some biographies about famous scientists and their discoveries. There’s loads of stuff on the internet about science and technology, so I read blogs and articles, too.  Alissa

Reading isn’t really my thing. I never sit down and read a novel. Obviously, I have to read for school, but I don’t like the classics and the sorts of books the teachers give us to read. They’re boring. I mean, I like stories but I prefer watching films. In fact, I watch lots of films. I used to buy magazines but I was spending too much money on them, so I stopped. Now, I read online: social media, blogs and all that sort of thing. Rowan

I enjoy a good fantasy novel, but I can’t say I spend a lot of time reading books. I used to read more when I was a child because my parents were always encouraging me to read. They used to buy me books and take me to the local library. In the holidays, when I’ve got some time, I really enjoy a good fantasy story and I sometimes download an ebook and read it. i t. To be honest, I now spend more time playing fantasy video games.

I live in Edinburgh, the capital capi tal city of Scotland. My dad’s Scottish but my mum’s English, so I think I feel British first. If I had been old enough to vote in the referendum, I wouldn’t have voted for an independent Scotland. I know Scotland was an independent country until 1707 but I hope it stays in the UK now. Speaker 4

I come from Northern Ireland. My country is separated from the rest of the United Kingdom by the sea but you don’t need to show your passport when you travel between Northern Ireland and the rest of Britain. Do I feel British or Irish? Well, both! My Irish culture is very important to me. I’ve chosen Irish as one of my subjects at school and I’m proud that I can now speak the language a bit. But I also feel British. We use the same money as the rest of Britain here in Northern Ireland and lots of other things are the same here too. I want to go to university in England or Scotland because I’d love to have the opportunity to find out about the rest of the United Kingdom. Speaker 5

I live in the Republic of Ireland, or Eire, which is its Irish name. My country isn’t in the United Kingdom but often people from other countries don’t seem to know that the island of Ireland is actually divided into two different countries. weird and wonderful kitchen gadgets have you found for us this week, Rajiv? Well, it’s been a good week in the kitchen shops so I’m going to talk about two gadgets today. Great. So what are they? This is a diet plate. A what? A diet plate. You use it if you’re on a diet. It helps you to control the quantity of food you eat. Mmm, I see. And what’s this? Can’t you see? It’s a coconut grater! Of course it is! We’ll start with the diet plate, I think. Right, well, it’s a white plate and it’s made of plastic. It looks like an ordinary plate but in the centre, there’s a section that is the same shape and size as a stomach. A stomach! That’s revolting! Look, there are even two canals where the food goes in and out of the stomach! So far, so disgusting! Right, so I’m on a diet and I can only eat the food that I can put in this stomach? Right! Have you tried it? Yes, I have, unfortunately. I used this plate for all my meals on one day and the result was … I felt extremely hungry all day. Only a very small portion can be put on the plate. I think it’s horrible! It looks disgusting! I wouldn’t want to eat anything from this plate. So you’d lose weight quickly! Success! I think we’d better move on to the coconut grater. Now the biggest problem with coconuts isn’t grating them. It’s opening them. They are incredibly hard and they’re full of water – my kitchen was covered in water and bits of coconut when I did it. The coconut has to be cut in half before you can use the grater. Now this grater is about the size of a coffee pot. In fact, it looks like a coffee pot with a long handle.
