The Apple Festival The Apple Festival celebrates one of England’s favourite fruits. It’s a family event for all ages. Children can learn about different types of apple. There are more than 60 different kinds and you can see all of them in the apple tent. You can also taste some of them as there are always delicious apple pies and apple juice on offer. This festival is a great opportunity to discover more about this delicious fruit,
but also have a great time! There are lots of games and activities during the day. Children will love making their own apple pig. What is that? Well, come to our festival to find out! This year, there’s a new activity called ‘Paint your favourite apple’. The teacher, Robert Wynter, is also an artist and a painter. The lesson costs £6 and it starts at ten o’clock each morning, so why not come along!
The Apple Festival is for young children. The festival is about 60 different fruit. There’s always something to drink there. Parents can’t play games at the festival. The apple pig is a doll. You can paint a still life picture at the festival. The painting lesson lasts for one hour.

5 Read and write A (Alan), M (Monica) or B (both). My name is Alan and I live in the outback in Australia. My life is very different from children living in a city or a village. My parents, my younger brother and I live on a farm in the outback. There aren’t any houses around us and we don’t see other people very often. I have homework every day, but I don’t go to school. I study at home with the ‘School of the Air’. I’ve got a teacher and we use a laptop and the internet to talk. We talk every morning on the computer and then I usually do my homework. I send my homework by post or by email. In my free time, I like drawing pictures of kangaroos and koalas and watching films on TV. My favourite film star is Hugh Jackman. Who ...

I’m Monica and I live in Los Angeles in the USA. My mum usually takes me to school by car or sometimes I get the school bus. I play games on my tablet or finish my homework on the way. At the weekend I like going to the beach with my brother, Zak. I’m older than Zak, but he’s better at surfing than I am. I sometimes go with my friends to the cinema on Saturday. My grandfather acted in many films and he was famous. I want to be like him, too! And I want to travel to Australia and South Africa. My favourite animals are koalas, hippos and elephants.

7 Read Vicky’s story and complete the sentences with one word. Today is Friday and Vicky is helping at home. Her mum wants to get ready for their holiday on Sunday. They’re going to the beach in California. Vicky went there once when she was very little. This time, she wants to surf and scuba dive, but today she isn’t very happy. There’s a Pink Flamingo concert on Sunday, Vicky’s favourite pop band. But she can’t go. ‘I’m sorry, Vicky. We leave early on Sunday. You can see them another time,’ says her mum. The next day, Vicky and her two sisters go to the shops to buy a pair of sandals. Their
friend Sally is with them, too. When Sally is trying on a T-shirt, she suddenly hears Vicky screaming. She runs out of the changing room and sees lots of people outside the shop. They’re standing around Bill Bryan, the singer of Pink Flamingo. Vicky is standing next to him. Her sisters are taking a photo of Vicky and Bill. She looks so happy! It’s Monday and Vicky’s on the beach. She’s looking at the photos on her phone. ‘I’m so lucky,’ she thinks. ‘I didn’t go to the concert, but I’ve got a photo with Bill Bryan!’

Hi, Leo! I hope you’re well! I’m at Kids’ Club Week this week. On Monday, I went to LoveFootball. I don’t usually like playing football, but it was great! I was there from nine in the morning till five in the afternoon. Jason, my cousin, is doing the LoveFootball activities every day this week. There are different teams and on Friday it’s the Grand Final! I hope his team wins! Yesterday, I went to the LoveGlee activities from 9am – 3pm. It was fantastic! We danced and acted like they do in the TV programme. You know I have jazz and rock ’n’ roll dancing lessons at school, so I really enjoyed it. I’m not doing an activity today because I’m helping my mum at home. My grandparents are here from Scotland. My mum wants to tidy the garden and make a spinach pie for tonight. Do you want to come with me tomorrow? It’s LoveArt day with drawing and painting lessons. The teacher, Jane Hill, is an artist from London. She’s famous for her watercolour paintings. We need to be there at one in the afternoon and it lasts two hours. It’s only £5 and my dad can take us because he doesn’t work on a Thursday. Call me or text me today, OK? Talk to you later! Paul

Who’s in a football team?
