SYSTEMS ENGINEER Highly effective Systems Engineer with expertise working all technical aspects of evaluation, application and support process of network and storage products. Highly regarded for supporting VAR training, L3 OEM technical support for end users, technical marketing presentations and handling major end user issues. Focused on collaborating across multiple OEM systems engineers and technical support to ensure fixes in one product stream.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE QLOGIC CORPORATION, Aliso Viejo, CA
1997 - 2014
Manufacturer of high speed data interface cards for Ethernet, iSCSI, FCoE and Fibre Channel that were integrated into all major OEM computer systems.
Principle Systems Engineer (2003 - 2014) Supported all qualification of QLogic hardware and software products into Hewlett-Packard servers and storage products. Included Business Critical Systems (BCS) servers, Storage Division and Industry Standard (ISS) ProLiant servers, as well as target storage developed for FCoE and iSCSI for RAID systems and fibre channel tape emulation back-up known as D2D. Troubleshot and assisted in replicating hard-to-duplicate issues, and addressed critical time sensitive manufacturing issues involving firmware updates.
Created and updated tracker, and followed up on issues that enabled significant reduction in number of issues being left outstanding as well as time-to-fix cycles.
Worked with multiple high-end server platforms and identified functionality problem with HPUX systems which allowed for incorporation of changes to chip and board design enabling QLogic fibre channel cards to work in all enterprise servers.
Developed tracking system to capture major end-user issues for HP to enable appropriate escalation and facilitate proper visibility of these issues all the way to the final fix.
Assisted Field SEs and Technical Support in providing information on previously resolved issues that allowed for creating and maintaining current knowledge base.
Worked with Engineering and developed several self-pacing technical training programs using PowerPoint.
Chosen on multiple occasions to take emergency trips to assist HP manufacturing by updating NIC cards on site to current approved levels, which resolved incoming product problems and increased customer satisfaction.
Critical issue involving power cycling of systems were causing hangs. The issue was only happening on high end servers in one location. Made an emergency trip and using PCI and fibre channel analyzers identified problem with boot code and firmware interaction. This allowed for an emergency fix for HP L3 support to use as needed.
Created technical issues tracker for Program Management which facilitated offloading of the function from Systems Integration Testing group.
Worked with Systems Integration test group and duplicated a major boot problem involving a critical shipment to a major HP customer; helped identify problem for QLogic Engineering, and helped identify new testing process to capture these kinds of bugs.

Mgr. Field Applications Engineering (1999 - 2003) Requested by upper management to be first manager of Field Applications Engineering department. Increased group coverage from three to eight engineers. Supported own region of manufacturer’s rep firms. Handled interoperability testing for FCIA and PCI organizations.
Handled FICA Interoperability Testing during time when company was considered the most effective in supporting both QLogic’s target mode customers and FCIA test group at the interop forums. Developed highly effective processes due to personal on-site actions and relationships developed with multiple teams.
Supported all major tradeshows which included acquiring equipment from vendors and other internal departments, and the design and maintenance of all technical live demos. Improved overall visibility of company products.
Instrumental in defining the role of the FAE Department as well as authoring the original job descriptions for Human Resources.
Developed several self-pacing technical training programs using PowerPoint and lab equipment which allowed the Engineers to be trained on HBA product line at their own pace.
Authored all job descriptions (seven levels including management) for integration of FAE Department and the Field Systems Engineering (FSE) Department creating new Systems Engineering group. Improved recruiting and promotion processes.
Sr. Field Applications Engineer (1997 - 1999) Worked with manufacturing rep firms in the western region. This included training for support of SCSI and Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) being integrated into OEM servers and storage devices. Supported all US based trade shows and interoperability testing.
Using multiple analyzers identified timing problem on new server platform that allowed firmware engineering to develop workaround rather than undergo a $200K chip turn.
Received Presidents Award for being instrumental in landing first major PC server manufacturer contract (DELL) in which QLogic Fibre Channel HBAs were used. Overcame major interop problem with Clarion storage.
MICROPOLIS CORP / STREAM LOGIC CORP
1994 - 1997
Major manufacturer of hard drives and software and hardware RAID controllers.
Sr. Field Applications Engineer
Developed Solaris shell script that exposed weakness in both hard drive and RAID controller firmware. Increased system reliability.
