School Of Electrical Engineering Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering especially electrical Power is an indispensable as it drives the life of people around the world. It has revolutionized our lives and working. I believe this is an incredibly exciting and empowering subject that will allow me to make a difference to the world and change it in a positive way. MY PERSONALITY: My name is UMAR FAROOQ, and I am applying for the admission to master’s program in Electrical Engineering under Chinese Government Scholarship. Here is my brief statement of purpose. My academic career has proceeded in the best possible way so far. I passed out from one of the finest colleges in the city, Government College Layyah, district Layyah, Pakistan. I was always interested and good at in physics and mathematics and it was this similar and precise logical nature of those principles of Physics and Mathematics led me to pursue my career in Electrical Engineering. As a culmination of my efforts, I qualified for admission into the prestigious Government College University Faisalabad, Pakistan. I have completed my Bachelors of Electrical Engineering from Government College University Faisalabad, Pakistan. I have shown good academic performance in my under graduate degree program by securing excellent CGPA of 3.49 out of 4.0. I was up to the mark and honored in the top 3’s list of 132 students in my undergraduate class. My undergraduate education has exposed me to a wide range of excellent courses with applications like Electrical Technology, Electrical Machines, Digital Logic Design, Network Analysis, Measurements and instrumentations, Electrical Appliances and safety Techniques, Microcontroller, Power Electronics, Industrial Electronics, Power Transmission Techniques, power System Protection Techniques, fundamental of Space and Communication Technology, Power Plant Technology, Electrification and Energy Auditing, Renewable Energy Technologies, Technology Management, High Voltage Technology and Linear Control Systems. In addition to these, I had the opportunity to work on several laboratory experiments and simulation tools like MATLAB (Introduction to MATLAB / Simulink for Modeling & Simulation) that helped me to learn the practical and theoretical aspects of Electrical Engineering.

I did my final year project on “Power Protection Schemes for 420 MW Steam Turbine Two Generators, Installed in one unit at THERMAL POWER STATION MUZAFFARGARH, PAKISTAN”.

In this I have studied and written the various protection schemes and control actions adopted for the 210 MW of 2 steam turbine generators installed by the Harbin Electric Machinery Company China at the Thermal Power Station Muzaffargarh (largest thermal power plant in Pakistan). Future Plans for Studies: My major subjects of interest are in following priority order. 1 High Voltage and Insulation Technology. 2 Power Systems and Its Automation. 3 Power Electronic and Electrical Transmission. 4 Power Quality control So I would like to explore and Master one of them and continue up to PHD level. During our course study in Bachelors we were taught about Circuit Analysis, Circuit Designing, Control System Power Electronics and High Voltage Technology. All these pure electronic research fields are of my interest. Whether in the form of radar, satellite communications or electronic warfare, RF and microwave technologies have provided the military and the defense sector the components and systems needed to keep military operations at the forefront — and to help them achieve the dominance needed on the battleground. Unlike digital electronics, which has witnessed exponential improvements in the last two decades, analog has progressed at a much slower pace. Advances have been made in super heterodyne and direct conversion techniques, but the basic analog transmitter has changed little in almost 100 years. Transmitter frequency ranges and bandwidths have been limited by the use of band-specific analog components. So I would like to continue exploring and making development in field of digital electronics which is most important pillar of latest technologies. Expected outcomes: Under the professional and excellent environment of university and well equipped labs the success rate of outcome will be very high. Research Methodology: The research methodology is the most important technique and it determines the design of the study Is often considered the most difficult portion. The research methodology is the scientific portion of the study undertaken. It will be analytical in nature and usually based on a quantifiable and testable theory and result. It will be systematic and exact therefore I will employs specific methods that are universally recognized as legitimate ways to test that which has not yet been proven. The goal of our good research project, especially at this level, is to come across a theory or hypothesis that has not been tested as of yet.

Bachelors Study Experience and Projects: 1. Internship at Thermal Power Station Muzaffar Garh. 2. DG Khan cement company limited .

In internship Worked in Boiler ,FD Fan, ID Fan, oil indicating system ,lubrication pumps, cooling tower, steam cycle, water treatment, 220kv switchyard, There are many projects in my Bachelors study water level indicator to cheeked in projects Indication of high, medium and low water level using logic gates , Design inverter 12v DC to 220v AC SPMW 1000w invert in multisim, Home Remote control fan and lights using sensor Device, Induction motor control with star-delta 2. Research paper solve: My final year assignment of Research paper solve following paper shanghai university of Electric power

Modeling and Simulation of PQ Disturbance Based on Matlab Wu Zhu, Wei-Ya Ma, Yuan Gui, Hua-Fu Zhang Shanghai University of Electric Power, 2103 pingliang road, Shanghai 200090, China

The main aim of this study is to explain the effects of Harmonics in the Power System and steps to reduce the effects of Harmonics. This study will also explain Harmonic distortion is one of the most important problems associated with power quality and creates several disturbances to the Power System. It includes the Harmonic reduction techniques to improve the power quality and it also includes the simulation model for the harmonics distortion. To reducing the harmonics distortion we use the control device such as thyristor and Insolated Gate Bipolar Junction Transistor (IGBT) is used. The results shows the considerable improvement in reducing the harmonics. In this study we explain, how harmonic reduction will reduced and compare our simulation results with pervious research work we found that control device thyristor give the enhanced results of power quality by reducing harmonics while universal diode give high total harmonics of power system. Simulation model is also developed for the reduction of harmonics which occurred during the fault occurrence. Keywords: Control devices, Power system, IGBT, Harmonics, power quality.
