Tortoise and Hare live in the forest. Every day Hare teases Tortoise. He says Tortoise is very slow. “I can run to that tree in ten seconds. You can’t crawl to that tree in ten hours!” says Hare.

Tortoise is mad. “I can beat you!” he says again, “Let’s race!” Hare laughs again. “You are crazy, Tortoise! You crawl so slowly!” he says. But finally Hare agrees to the race.

1 Answer the questions.

Tortoise doesn’t like to be teased. One day he says to Hare, “I can beat you in a race!” Hare laughs and laughs! “Nobody can beat me. I run so fast!” he says.

It’s the day of the race! Many animals arrive to watch. Tortoise and Hare are waiting at the starting line. Owl blows the whistle. The race begins!

The animals cheer. “Go Tortoise! Go Hare!” they shout. Tortoise crawls slowly. He’s not fast, but he’s trying very hard. Hare runs very fast. He runs ahead of Tortoise.

Tortoise crawls for a very long time. Finally, he sees Hare under a tree. Hare is taking a nap! Tortoise crawls by quietly. Hare doesn’t wake up. Tortoise keeps crawling. He’s very tired, but he doesn’t stop.

Hare looks back. He can’t see Tortoise. He is very far ahead. Hare is sure he can win! Then he sees some grass next to a big tree. He stops to rest under the tree.

Hare suddenly wakes up. The race! He runs to the finish line, but Tortoise is already there! The crowd is cheering for Tortoise. He’s the winner! Hare is very mad, but he never teases Tortoise again.
