• What dance form is shown in the movie? -

Almost all of the modern dance forms were shown in the video especially the street and hip-hop dance styles. Specifically, these are B-boying, locking, popping, krumping, tutting, shuffling, and waacking.

The two dancers here are dancing in the final round of The vortex. They are from The Grim Knights. This is an example of B-boying.

This guy also showed B-boying on the showdown of The Grim Knights and The Mob.

Vladd, the human robot they met on the plaza was actually doing popping.

In the video submitted by LMNTRIX, here is the example of locking.

The Santiago twins also performed locking in one of their rehearsals.

LMNTRIX and The Mob also performed krumping on a scene lead by Moose.

The girl from The Grim Knights and Vladd performed popping on the grand finale of The Vortex.

Sean did tutting on one of their rehearsals.

The Mob performed waacking on the elimination round of The Vortex.

These two guys performed shuffling on the audition held on the first part of the movie.

LMNTRIX together with The Mob demonstrated waacking on the grand finals.

• What is a street dance? -

“Street dance” was actually a term formed to describe dances that developed outside of the studio setting and in a social space like streets, clubs and parks. The original street dances in include Breaking, Popping and Locking. For me, it’s like a spontaneous dance performance of a group that is being held outdoors. They bring a huge boom box, plan things, and wearing their awesome suits, they perform in front of the crowd with confidence and synchronized movements. In other definition, it refers to contemporary vernacular dance forms that evolved in urban and suburban areas, such as towns or cities, as part of some urban culture. It's not exactly known when the term was first introduced. However, it is known that all street dance forms derives from past folk, tribal, fad and freestyle dancing. Street dance is popular amongst young people, especially

those of African-American descent. Here in our country, street dance are popular when there are feast, barangay contests, and even on televisions.

• What is a hip-hop dance? -

According to wikipedia, Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping which were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States. As I understand, it means that it’s like an evolved version of street dance. There are many dance movements added and upgraded. Hip-hop music also incorporates a number of iconic elements, most notably DJing and rapping, along with things like beat boxing, sampling, and juggling beats on turntables. When I hear the world hip-hop, I immediately think about cool people with hip-hop suits, dancing on a street with graffiti on their background. But not only that. Hip-hop is not just limited on performing it on streets. Dancers like Dytto, Matt Stefanina, Misha Gabriel, Adam Sevani and more perform on studios and stages. Sometimes they dance individually or by group. Unlike street dance, this dance style has enhanced movements and more tricky steps.

• What particular movements/steps strike you? Show them. #3

This guy from The Grim Knights is so amazing. His bones are so flexible. In the whole film, this is probably the most superb dance move because this is so unique and this skills are hard to acquire.

#2

I love Moose’s solo performance when LMNTRIX strolled the night life at Vegas. His dance moves are so smooth and it’s so calming to watch. Also, he looks cool and entertaining on how he execute his steps.

#1

This is the most breath-taking and the best dance step of the film. I got goosebumps on this part knowing it’s like the grand ending of all the Step Up films since Step Up: All In is the last film of the series. It was the best part because it was really unexpected because Andie is afraid to do this stunt again because of the fracture that she experienced before.

• Can street dance and hip-hop dance improve fitness? How? -

Of course, it depends on the capability of the person to do these. For example if you’re too old enough, you may find these hard to execute. Therefore you can’t use these to improve your fitness. But when it comes to our generation, absolutely it is. Like the zumba dance, these can also improve our fitness because we move our body by dancing and expressing ourselves. But unlike the zumba dance, these are way more complex and requires more practice. Aside from that, we should be careful in doing or dance movements because like in the film, a wrong move can lead us to injuries. Doing street dance and hip-hop dance don’t just improve our physical fitness but also our social, emotional, and other aspects of our fitness because these also boosts up our confidence to express ourselves.

• Can we use street dance and hip-hop dance as our recreation activity? Why and how? -

Like my answer on the previous question, it still depends on the person. But for me, absolutely yes. As a matter of fact, whenever I’m bored, I sing and dance though I’m not good at any of these. Doing street dance and hip-hop dance can also be our stressreliever especially if you like to dance. Example, those people who do Just Dance is a proof that dancing can be our recreational activity. I’m not good at dancing but I still try to. It’s not all about being good at it. The fact that you enjoy it and you recreate yourself through it, never be afraid to do it and express yourself.
