Star Trik (The Next Revelation)

The following routine has been used in my act for many years. It is very strong and always receives excellent reactions. It is with great  pride that I hand hand the workings of this fine routine over over to you! Effect

The performer hands twelve index cards to a spectator. The cards have all twelve signs of the zodiac printed on them individually. The cards also have four statements printed on them, and are said to be relevant to somebody of that particular star sign. The spectator reads aloud the four statements from the card showing their star sign, and they are asked to comment on how accurate the statements are to their personality. The spectator, appearing mildly impressed with the accuracy of the statements is then asked to shuffle through the cards and to read aloud the four statements that are printed on any other card. The new four statements are seen to be identical to the ones previously read, and further study shows that all twelve cards have the exact same statements printed on them. “This,” continues the performer, “Is  because we are all very m much uch the same. We We all have the same basic needs and desires, for we all want to be liked, admired and respected for just being ourselves, ourselves, and this is exactly why horoscopes work.” The performer goes on to provide a small reading for the spectator and then amazingly reveals the exact star sign belonging to the spectator. Method

The method is very well hidden in the wording of the statements on the cards. Although they read as identical, they have slight differences in the wording which helps to build a numerical total, and identify the correct star sign. The four statements are as follows...

Each of the four statements has a twin statement that although reads identically, has a small difference. The alternate statements are as follows...

need to succeed. su cceed. It is very easy to remember whether the statement is in its primary or secondary version, as the first letter in all four statements are alphabetical as described below.

       





 

The first letter in statement one is either an A or B. The first letter in statement two is either a C or D. The first letter in statement three is either an E or F. The first letter in statement four is either a G or H.

The primary version of the statement is ignored when heard, and no adding takes place! The secondary version however, calls for the  performer to mentally mentally add up a running total. The totals to be added are... The value 1 if statement one is in its secondary version, the value 2 if statement two is in its secondary version, the value 4 if statement three is in its secondary version and the value 8 if statement four is in its secondary meaning. The total is then matched to the below chart, and the spectator’s star sign is known. The below chart is memorised by myself, using

 

simple memory techniques, but there is no reason why it couldn’t be attached as a crib to a pad of paper, or even on the side of a marker  pen or thumb tip. tip. 1) Capricorn 2) Aquarius 3) Pisces 4) Aries 5) Taurus 6) Gemini 7) Cancer 8) Leo 9) Virgo 10) Libra 11) Scorpio 12) Sagittarius When performing I sit with my feet flat on the floor with my hands resting on my thighs. This seating position allows me to use my hands and feet as a prompt when working out the numeric nu meric value for the statements read. My left foot is allocate allocated d with the value of 1 (statement one), my right foot is allocated with the value of 2 (statement two), my left hand is allocated with the value of 4 (statement three) and finally my right hand is allocated with the value of 8 (statement four). When hearing the appropriate statements from the card, I wait to see if it is in its primary or secondary version, and then slightly raise the appropriate hand or foot. After all four statements have been read, I return to my hands and feet and total up the values of any that are raised. Obviously the raising of the hands and feet are very slight and should not be raised massively, making everything look rather unnatural and strange. Let’s look at an example... The spectator is under the star sign s ign Cancer, and reads the following four statements. 1. Born survivor who cares for others.

 

2. Definitely see you have great potential, po tential, learn to master it. 3. First experiences need to be cherished as if it was the last, because one day it will be. 4. Get homed in on your goals and dreams, you have everything you need to succeed. It can be seen that statements 1, 2 and 3 are in their secondary version, and these values need to be added, to form the final numeric total to reveal the spectator’s star sign. Using the aid of the body, the  performer will will have slightly rai raised sed their left left foot, their right right foot and their left hand. The values can then be added to identify the correct star sign. Left foot for statement 1= Value of 1 Right foot for statement 2= Value of 2 Left hand for statement 3= Value of 4 1+2+4=7 So the value of 7 is looked up on the star sign crib, and indeed  proves to be Cancer. Cancer. The performer then asks the spectator to shuffle the cards and to turn to a new star sign, reading aloud its statements. Attention is drawn to the fact that they are identical to the statements  previously read read aloud. Although the statements are all virtually identical, a little audience management manageme nt is required to ensure that the cards aren’t thoroughly examined. This is easily achieved by ensuring that when the cards are in the spectator’s hands you are constantly giving them new instructions to follow. They only look when you want them to look so to speak! For clarity we’ll look at another full run through. The spectator s pectator is an Aquarius and reads aloud the following statements…

 

1. A born survivor who cares for others. 2. Definitely see you have great potential, learn to master it. 3. Every first experience needs to be cherished as if it was the last,  because one day it will be. 4. Get homed in on your goals and dreams, you have everything you need to succeed. On this occasion, only statement number two is in its secondary version, causing the right foot only to be raised. Totalling the value of the right foot would equal 2, and this can be seen to be accurate as Aquarius on the star sign list. The spectator would then be instructed to shuffle the cards, and read another four statements from a different card, proving that they are all identical. Once it has been established that all of the cards hold the same four statements then the performer would move into the following script… “You see the statements are all exactly the same, and that is why horoscopes work. They draw on the fact that deep down we all have the same needs and wants in life. We all want to be admired and respected for just being ourselves, and few of us really want to be remembered remembere d as just being average. “So my advice to you is, don’t worry about what other people think, allow them make their own choices and mistakes. You should concentrate on your gifts and talents, and focus on how you can use them for your benefit and the benefit of those around you. I think you would be very good at looking out for ‘The Outcast,’ the person that society says is different, and if you choose to develop it, one of your finest qualities would be the ability to encourage. This is  perhaps because you fall under the sign of… (Add star sign sign here!)” Added Reading Ideas

I have added a few ideas for placing into a reading for a spectator with that particular star sign...

 

Scorpio is a person with a real sting in their tail. If their loved ones are being ill-treated they are likely to lash out with vicious or defensive words. Aquarius has a real calming spirit, their words seem to sooth, calm and refresh. Pisces is a hard worker, willing to put the effort in to get upstream, upstr eam, where many are satisfied to just go with the flow and be swept along with everybody else. Aries has the ability to break down stereotypical views that the world perceives as fact. They don’t just believe something because an authority figure says so! Taurus has such inner strength, they do need to actively control their emotions at times, or things can get messy. Gemini is always quick to get alongside somebody in need. They easily make lasting friendships, and pride p ride themselves on loyalty. Cancer is somebody that doesn’t let go of their dreams. When they Cancer set their mind on a goal, they usually achieve it. Leo speaks of bravery, and how that doesn’t mean the lack of fear  but quite the opposite, doing iitt anyway. The These se people will spea speak k the truth even if it isn’t the easiest thing to do. Virgo is pure of heart and mind. The world will try and snuff out their flame, so they need to be nurtured and cared for. Libra is well balanced and they know what they want. Their at times, outward silliness is not to be mistaken for loss of control. Capricorn, as Aries... has the ability to break down stereotypical views that the world perceives as fact. what is needed to bring those things into the lives of themselves, and those they care for. Long Distance Version

I used this routine over the telephone for a local radio station. I  posted a set of the cards to the the host, with instruc instructions tions to not open open the  package until asked to live on air. I then completed the routi routine ne as instructed receiving a fabulous reaction. There is a chance that they may study the cards after the show and learn a little of its secret, but that risk is worth taking for the fantastic response that it will certainly receive. Note
