Re-orient your work so that you are crocheting around the edge of those bobble stitches.
**Pro-Tip: You can force the bump part of the Bobble Stitch to bump outwards in the correct orientation by poking/pressing it with your finger or the back of a hook/chopstick. Make sure you are working with the the right side out: you sshould hould work the rest of this piece by inserting your hook from the outside of the work to the inside of the work, as usual. See this video for more details on right side vs. wrong side of the work work https://youtu.be/beReNFWQPAs https://youtu.be/beReNFWQPAs
The first photo above shows how to reorient your work so that the bumps aare re pointing down, and you are poised to crochet around their upper edge. The second photo points out the location of each of the three bobbles on the exact same photo. The third photo points out the location of each of the following 12 SC around that edge. 2. 3.

Stuff the Rear legs with polyfil medium-firmly up to the thigh, Pin to attach the Rear legs at the back end of the body. Verify placement. The butt of the the Sphinx will NOT be touching the ground, only the rear legs should be touching the ground. If the Sphinx does not ssit it firmly on the ground, skip to the Tail instructions and put that in place before sewing anything to attach (this is normal to need the tail tail for balance and stability). stability). Once placement is finalized, your Sphinx sits firmly and well-balanced, sew everything to attach around the edge of every part of the legs that is touching the bod body y of the Sphinx with small whip stitches. Take strong moldable wire and double it up – up – the the tail will need to be strong enough to help support the body and extended wings. Insert this doubled-up wire into the tail of the sphinx. The wire should extend at least 3 inches beyond the end of the tail to use to insert into the Page | 59

body of the Sphinx. Fold the end over itself so that the sharp end of the wire does not poke through the end of the tail. Secure the wires to itself with stri strips ps of duct tape wrapped around the wire. Split the wires as they exit the end of the tail, insert the wires into two separate holes in the crochet work at the tail area of the Sphinx (this will help with stability of the tail). The wired tail is extremely important to the balance and stability of the Sphinx body. It will not be able to balance without it.

Then take strong moldable wire and double it up – up – these these wing panels are heavier than most with three panels of long, curving feathers. I used two pieces of 18” 18g paper -wrapped -wrapped floral stem wire. Fold the end of one wire over on itself, so that the sharp end of the wire won’t be poking through through your work. Secure it to itself, and secure about half of the second wire to itself – itself – wrap wrap the wires together with duct tape for as long as the sewn edge of the wing panels.
Place and shape the wire to the edge of the sewn wing panels.

Insert the wire between the 1 st and 2nd panel and keep it against the edge that you sewed together.
Flatten the wing panels again around the wire and use a yarn tail to sew along the edge of the wing, encasing the wire in the the wing panel with your stitches. Make small stitches sso o that the stitching is not very noticeable on the wing panels themselves. I recommend using the Panel 3 color yarn tail to do this sewing.

Split the wires that exit the base of the wing, insert them into two separate places on the work to help with stability. Insert the wires into the back of the Sphinx just about where the shoulder blades would be. Pin in place. **Note: While wire is optional to the shape of the piece, the Sphinx may no nott be able to support its weight without it. If you are using a flexible curling rod: If the rod is a bright color, consider wrapping it in a dark or light neutral color duct tape to hide it inside the work better. Insert the rod into the foot of the leg, it will fill fill the whole leg out. Stuff around it if necessary, but if using a G hook h ook with worsted weight yarn, it should n not ot be necessary. Fold the top of the rod rod over on itself inside the leg and finish the last two rows to close it up.
29.
If you are using regular wire: At this point, take a wire, form a circle on the end of it the size of the inside of the bottom of the paw, secure the wire to itself with duct tape, and then insert the wire down into the the inside of the foot. Stuff the rest of the leg with polyfil stuffing to fill out the shape, force the wire to exit the yarn at this row on the “inside” of the leg. For the Right leg, that means the wire should exit the leg between stitch 2 and stitch stitch 3 in Row 29. For the Left leg, that means the wire should exit the leg between stitch 6 and stitch 7 in Row 29. (SC, Dec) x 3, SC, Sl St to beginning Stitch, Ch 1 Page | 76

TEXT ONLY: Assembly Tools: All crocheted parts of the Sphinx Darning Needle At least 2 wires for the wings and 1 for the tail
Make 1 1. 2.
Pin to attach the Front legs at the shoulder area of the body. Make sure you’ve already inserted wire into the front legs per the front front leg instructions. Do not sew to attach yet. Stuff the Rear legs with polyfil medium-firmly up to the thigh, Pin to attach the Rear legs at the back end of the body. Verify placement. The butt of the Sphinx will NOT be touching the ground, only the rear legs should be touching the ground. If the Sphinx does not ssit it firmly on the ground, skip to the Tail instructions and put that in place before sewing anything to attach (this is normal to need the tail tail for balance and stability). stability). Once placement is finalized, your Sphinx sits firmly and well-balanced, sew everything to attach around the edge of every part of the legs that is touching the body of the Sphinx with small whip stitches. See these videos for tips on sewing to attach:

Take strong moldable wire and double it up – up – the the tail will need to be strong enough to help support the body and extended wings. Insert this doubled-up wir wiree into the tail of tthe he sphinx. The wire should extend at least 3 inches beyond the end of the tail to use to insert into the body of the Sphinx. Fold the end over itself so that the sharp end of the wire does not poke through the end of the tail. Secure the wires to itself with stri strips ps of duct tape wrapped around the wire. Split the wires as they exit the end of the tail, insert the wires into two separa separate te holes in the crochet work at the tail area of the Sphinx (this will help with stability of the tail). The wired tail is extremely important to the balance and stability of the Sphinx body. It will not be able to balance without it. Layer the three wing panels on top of each other to create a Left wing and a Right wing. The final yarn tail of the wing panels will be closest to the body when attaching. Use a yarn tail and sew through the edge of all 3 panels at the same time up to the tip/end of panel 2. Weave in the end. Then take strong moldable wire and double it up – up – these these wing panels are heavier than most with three panels of long, curving feathers. I used two pieces of 18” 18g paper -wrapped -wrapped floral stem wire. Fold the end of one wire over on itself, so that the sharp end of the wire won’t wo n’t be poking through your work. Secure it to itself, and secure about half of the second wire to itself – itself – wrap wrap the wires together with duct tape for as long as the sewn edg edgee of the wing panels. Place and shape the wire to the edge of the sewn wing panels. Insert the wire between the 1 st and 2nd panel and keep it against the edge that you sewed

together. Flatten the wing panels again around the wire and use a yarn tail to sew along the edge of the wing, encasing the wire in the the wing panel with your stitc stitches. hes. Make small stitches so that the stitching is not very noticeable on the wing panels themselves. I recommend using the Panel 3 color yarn tail to do this sewing. Split the wires that exit the base of the wing, insert them into two separate places on the work to help with stability. Insert the wires into the back of the Sphinx just about where the shoulder sho ulder blades would be. Pin in place. Once you’ve verified placement, and are pleased with balance and the arrangement of the wings, sew in place using yarn tails, weave all yarn tails in. 5.
Pin the Hair to the head of the Sphinx, sew to attach using yarn tail, weave in ends. When pinning Style 1 to attach, fold the very front/forehead area of the hair slightly back on itself to create the illusion of face framing curls. See photos in full pattern. The Bun is optional for style one, and you can use it to create a half-up/half-down hair style. Pin it to the center/back center/back high on the head of the style 1 head. After you sew the bun to attach, use the longest tendril to wrap around the bun, as shown (see full pattern for photos).
6. 7.
Pin the optional Headband in place, as shown (see full pattern ffor or photos). Sew to attach, weave in ends. Pin the collar in place around the neck of the Sphinx, sew to attach using yarn tails, weave in ends. If you are using the optional leg cuffs, Pin in place, sew in place using yarn tails, weave in ends.
