VERSION 2 : NEW & UPDA UPDATED TED FEATURES FEATURES

SpatialXL is an add-in to Microsoft Excel 2007/2010 SpatialXL is an add-in to Microsoft Excel 2007 or 2010 which gives Microsoft Excel full mapping and graphics capability,, including the capability ability to link spatial or  graphics elements back to Excel or to other data sources such as a database.

Supported Mining Formats SpatialXL can read and display the following formats: 

Shape files

Gemcom Surpac

Microstation DGN

Excel spreadsheets

 AutoCAD DXF

Bing

 AutoCAD DWG

Images (TIFF, JPEG, BMP etc)

 

SQL Server 2005/2008  Access Database

 

Any other OLE DB Source Oracle Spatial

Oracle Spatial

Datamine

Ability to extract geometries from data

CSV

such as lines, polygons etc and a query

 Any other OGC Compatible Source

builder to work with databases.

Save your work by simply saving the spreadsheet.

Displaying Data Formats together  Whether you are loading shape files simultaneously with data from a database and displaying it over Bing, you can display any formats simultaneously with any other formats in SpatialXL. This example shows SQL Server  database data together  with Gemcom Surpac, together with DXF files together with Shape files.

Thematic Colouring Whether you are colouring by a text field, numeric range, or even using different images or  charts to display different thematic values, SpatialXL is excellent for hotspot reporting or ge neral indications of high and low values or types of data.

Borehole de-surveying •

Extract collars as points

•  Add surveys •

Extract segments such as lithologies

Build surfaces from start and end points or between points.

NEW FEATURE

Contour a variable Contour a variable as if it was a Z axis.

NEW FEATURE

Save to a database

NEW FEATURE

Save to the OGC Well Known Binary format in SQL Server or SpatialExtender and soon Oracle.

Save to the OGC Well Known Text format in SQL Server or SpatialExtender and soon Oracle.

Save to the Microsoft SQL Server  native geometry format.

Save to MineDB (www.MineDB.biz) geometry plus format. MineDB allows three dimensional data and triangulated surfaces.

Drawing and editing

NEW FEATURE

2D or 3D drawing of points, lines, polygons, and text now in SpatialXL.  Also editing of surfaces now available with ability to delete facets or vertices or flip surfaces.

Build walls and dumps

NEW FEATURE

Input transforms

Input transformations such as scales, rotations, shifts and even survey to Cartesian, will do an on-the-fly transformation of your source data. You can set up your own as well.

NEW FEATURE

Linking data between different data sources Link spatial data to non-spatial data in a spread sheet, database or file by using a particular column or columns as the linking column. You can aggregate, colour etc by linked data and also find data based on the linked fields. You can even save linked data back to the original geometry data type, as long as that type allows the additional data.

Volume, Length and Area measurement Volume, Length and area measurements are part of a simple data grid which you can paste into Excel very simply. Measurements are done in accurate lengths no matter what the current projection is with a measuring tool.

Drawing and Annotation You can draw and annotate inside your spreadsheet and can also edit geometries if the right settings are activated. Here is an example of adding a simple annotation layer.

Map Bookmarks You can go back to previous view by simply saving a map bookmark, or multiple bookmarks in your spreadsheet. When you send the spreadsheet to someone else, they can also view your  bookmarks and notes in Excel to see the map as you saw it.

Saving to original or other formats You can edit and save geometries and other  data in SpatialXL. You can save a DXF file as a shape file, or database data to shape files for  instance. You can also add columns to the data with calculated fields and save that back to the original formats or  into a different format, as long as the format allows such data.

Using projections  All projections of the Open Geospatial Consortium are included. You can also specify your  own projection and validate that.

Projection can also be done on the fly, converting layer  projections to the scene projection.

Image handling Images (TIFF, BMP, JPEG and others) can be placed using the World Coordinates accompanying the image, even the transparency can be set for the image!

Original Colouring and CAD Text For DGN and DWG files for instance, there is an original colouring in Microstation that SpatialXL follows as much as is possible.

You can still change the colours by using thematics etc, but when the changes are removed, the geometries will go back to the original colouring.

Instead of only doing labels based on attributes, SpatialXL can also draw 2D and 3D text and place these as geometries.

Layer operations Creating new layers with buffering data or selected data can also be done in SpatialXL. Here is an example of creating a new layer from selected data.

Surface Building Surface building from points or from selected lines can be done in SpatialXL.

In this example we built a surface from line strings in a DataMine file.

Contouring Contouring is also a feature in SpatialXL.

Sections SpatialXL supports sections either at single or  regular intervals in any direction.

Section graphs are now available.

UPDATED FEATURE

Cut and Fill

UPDATED FEATURE

Cut and fill done with perimeters and a breakdown into levels.
