ARMIES OF THE

41st MILLENNIUM STARTING & FINISHING A NEW ARMY

THE BASIC ARMY PAINTER TECHNIQUE

Starting a new army of miniatures has always been a daunting task at best. The following pages will show you a few of the endless possibilities of colour schemes for Space Marines and a few of their adversaries. Using the simple steps shown below will make it very possible to paint an army in a week or two – compared to months before.

The Army Painter has developed a simple technique to knock down the time spent on a trooper to mere minutes. Simply follow the BLOOD ANGEL example below, repeat it 60 times and you are done! Check our website for video tutorials and to see all the sprays, Warpaints and basing available:

SPRAY

DRAGON RED Spray the model with a Colour Primer PRIMER after assembly.

QUICKSHADE VARNISH/BASE

BASECOAT

Only basecoat the miniature with flat Acrylic colours.

3 different tones, DARK tone used in this example.

Dip or “Splash-on” Quickshade for great shading effect.

Antishine after 48 hours & then base the model.

OPTIONAL!! MASTERCLASS

Add one or two simple highlights for great effect.

The same technique as above can be used on vehicles and walkers. Use the “Splash on” technique and remove Quickshade pools immediately after. The Dreadnought has been sprayed with PURE RED Colour Primer and dipped in STRONG Tone Quickshade. It has not been Masterclassed.

Unit of Bl

This Sergeant in this Blood Angel unit has been “Masterclassed” to raise the overall standard. A unit like this takes about 1½ hours (excluding drying time/basing) to finish as above. The Blood Angels are primed with Dragon Red Color Primer and dipped in DARK tone Quickshade.

TOURNAMENT STANDARD…

ANY ARMY – NOT JUST SPACE MARINES!

The basic technique gives great looking miniatures, perfect for Wargaming. Sometimes though, players want to participate in tournaments and thus something extra is needed to stand out. Bases will do a lot, but one simple edging highlight, especially on darker miniatures, will make a world of difference. See difference below.
