ಶವಃ ಕಾ ುಕೂೇತೀ ಭವ ತಃ ರಭುಂ ನ ಚೀೇೇೀವಂ ೇೀೀ ನ ಖಲು ುಲಃ ಸಂು , ಅಾತ ಾಾಧಾಯಂ ಅಾತ ಾಾಧಾಯಂ ಂಚಾ ರಂುಂ ೇೂತೀುಂ ೀುಂ ಾ ಥೃ ಯಃ ರಭವ . ೧ . ಶವಃ - Siva ಕಾ - with Sakti ುತಃ ಭವ - when enjoined ತಃ ರಭುಂ - empowered to create ನ ಚೀೇ ಚೀೇ ಏವಂ ಏವಂ ೇೀವಃ - if the lord is not thus ನ ಖಲು ುಲಃ - indeed unable ಸಂುಂ ಅ - to even move ಅಃ - hence ಾಂ ಆಾಧಾಯಂ - you, who is worshipped ಂಚಾಃ ಅ - even by Hari (Vishnu), Hara (Siva), Virinchi (Brahma) and others ರಂುಂ - to salute
ೇೂತೀುಂ ೀುಂ ಾ - or praise
ಥಂ - how
ಅೃ ಯಃ - one who has not performed meritorious deeds ರಭವ - capable When Siva is enjoined with Sakti, he is empowered to create. If the lord is not thus, he is indeed unable to even move. Hence how can one who has not performed meritorious deeds be capable of saluting or praising you, who is worshipped even by Hari, Hara, Virinchi and others ? (Benedictory invocation to Siva and Sakti, beginning with the word Siva. Cf Sivanandalahari (SVL) Verse 1 : Benedictory invocation to Siva and Sakti, beginning with the letter , cryptically symbolising the word Siva.)
ೀಾಂಸಂ ಪಾಂಸುಂ ವ ಂಕೀೇುಭವಂ ಂಃ ಸನ ೇೂೀಕಾನಲಮ ,
ವೇಯೀನಂ ೌಃ ಥ ಸೇರೀ ಶಾಂ ಃ ಸಂುೇಯೈನಂ ಭಜ ಭೇೂೀದೂಲನ ಲನ ಮ . ೨ ೀಾಂಸಂ ಪಾಂಸು - minute dust ವ - your ಂಕೀೇು - lotus feet ಭವಂ - present in ಂಃ - Virinchi (Brahma) ಸಂನ - gathering - makes (Creation) ೇೂೀಕಾ ಅಲಮ ೇೂೀಕಾ ಅಲಮ - all the worlds ವ ಏನಂ - carries this (Preservation) ೌಃ - Shouri (Vishnu) ಥಂ ಅ - some how ಸೇರೀ ಶಾಂ - by a thousand heads (as (a s the serpent Adisesha, the tamasic form of Vishnu, who supports the world with his thousand heads) ಃ - Hara (Siva)
ಸಂುದಯ ಏನಂ - having powdered this (Destruction) ಭಜ - observes ಭ ಉದೂಲನ - sprinkling sacred ash ಂ - injunction Virinchi gathering the minute dust present in your lotus feet makes all the worlds. Shouri somehow carries this by a thousand heads. Hara having powdered this observes the injunction for sprinkling sacred ash. (The dust of Sakti's feet is the Universe. Cf SVL Verse 2 : Sivanandalahari washes away the dust of sin.)
ಅಾಯಾಂತ ಹ ೀನಗೀ ಜಡಾಾಂ ಚೇೈನಯ ಸತಬ ಬ ಂದ ಸುರಝೀ , ದಾರಾಂ ಂಾ ಗುಕಾ ಜನಜಲಧೌ
ಾಾಂ ದಂಾ ು ವಾಸಯ ಭವ . ೩ . ಅಾಯಾಂ - for the spiritually ignorant ಅಂ: - inner darkness ಹ ೀ ನಗ - the island city of
the sun (a division of the terrestrial world
from where the sun is said to rise) ಜಡಾಾಂ - for the dull witted
ಚೇೈನಯ - pure intelligence ಸತಬ ಂದ - honey of the (Kalpaka flower) cluster (of the wish yeilding Kalpaka tree) ಸುರಝೀ - flowing stream
ದಾರಾಂ - for the impoverished ಂಾ ಗುಕಾ - necklace of the Cintamani (the wish yeilding gem) ಜನ ಜಲಧೌ ಜನ ಜಲಧೌ - in the ocean of births ಾಾಂ - those immersed ದಂಾಃ - the tusks ು - the enemy of (the demon) Mura ವಾಸಯ - of the boar (an incarnation of Vishnu) l otus feet) ಭವ - it (the dust in your lotus For the inner darkness of the spiritually ignorant, it (the dust in your lotus feet) is the island city of the sun. For the dull witted it is the flowing stream of honey of the (Kalpaka flower) cluster of pure intelligence. For the impoverished it is the necklace of the Cintamani. For those immersed in the ocean of births, it is the tusks of the boar (Vishnu), the enemy of Mura. (Sakti is ಚೇೈನಯಂ. Cf SVL Verse 3 : Siva is the resort of )
ದನಯಃ ಪಾಾಯಭವೇೂೀ ೇೈವಗಃ ೀಕಾ ೇೈಾ ರಟ ವಾೀಯನಾ , ಭಾ ಾರುಂ ಭಾ ಾರುಂ ಾುಂ ಫಲ ಾಂಛಾಸಂ ೇಯೀ ೇೂೀಕಾಾಂ ವ ಹ ಾೇೀವ ೌ . ೪ .
ಅನಯಃ ಅನಯಃ - other than you ಪಾಾಯಂ - by the hands (by empty gesture) ಅಭ ವದಃ - bestowers of protection from fear and boon ೇೈವ ಗಃ - the assemblage of gods ಂ ಏಕಾ - you alone ನ ಏವ ಅ - you do not thus ರಟ - display ವ ಅೀ - bestowing of boon and protection from fear ಅನಾ - by gesture ಭಾ ಾರುಂ ಭಾ ಾರುಂ - protecting from fear ಾುಂ ಫಲಂ ಅ - and giving reward ಾಂಛಾ ಸಂ - in excess of that desired ೇಯೀ ೇೂೀಕಾಾಂ - Oh refuge of the worlds! (Sakti) ವ - your ಹ - indeed ೌ ಏವ - even feet ೌ - are expert Other than you, the assemblage of gods are the bestowers of protection from fear and boon by the hands (by empty gesture). You alone do not thus display bestowing of boon and protection from fear by gesture. Oh refuge of the worlds! indeed even your feet are expert in protecting from fear and giving reward in excess of that desired. (Assemblage of gods make empty promises. Cf SVL Verse 4 : Assemblage of gods bestow trivial boons).
ಾತ ಾಾಯ ರ ಜನ ೌಾಗಯ ಜನೀಮ ಾ ಾೀ ಭೂಾ ೇೂೀಭನ , ಸೇೂೀ ಾಂ ನಾ ನನ ೇೀೇಯೀನ ವಾ ುೀಾಯಂಃ ರಭವ ಹ ೂೀಾ ಾಮ .೫ . ಃ - Hari (Vishnu)
ಾಂ ಆಾಯ - having worshipped you ರ ಜನ - people who bow (to you) ೌಾಗಯ ಜನೀಂ - the creator of auspiciousness ಾ - formerly ಾೀ ಭೂಾ - having become a woman (ಾೂಯಂ or assimilation with Sakti, ಂ ಅ
one of the four states of Mukti or Liberation) - even Puraripu (the enemy of the three cities of the demons or the three bodies of man), (Siva) ೇೂೀಭಂ ಅನ - led to agitation
ಸಃ ಅ - Smara (Cupid) too ಾಂ ನಾ - having bowed to you ನನ - the eyes of Rati ೇೀೇಯೀನ ವಾ - with a body like a lambative ುೀಾಂ ಅ - even sages ಅಂಃ - within ರಭವ ಹ - capable indeed ೂೀಾ - (of generating) delusion ಾಂ - of great Hari having worshipped you, the creator of auspiciousness to people who bow to you, having become a woman formerly, led even Puraripu to agitation. Having bowed to you, Smara too with a body which is (like) a lambative to the eyes of Rati, is indeed capable (of generating) delusion within great sages. (Celestials sought the grace of Sakti Cf SVL Verse 5 : Devotee seeks the grace of Siva)
ನುಃ ಪೌಷಂ ೌೀ ುೀ ಂ ಶಾಃ ವಸಂಃ ಾಂೇೂೀ ಲಾೂೀನ ಥಃ , ಾಪೇಯೀಃ ಸವಂ ಹಸುೇೀ ಕಾೃಪಾಂ ಅಪಾಂಾೇತೀ ಲಾ ಲಾ ಜಗದನಂೇೂೀ ಜೇೀ . ೬ . ನುಃ ಪೌಷಂ - the bow is flowery ೌೀ ುೀ - the bow string is made of bees ಂ ಶಾಃ - the five (flowers) are the arrows
ವಸಂಃ - Vasanta (Spring personified) ಾಂಃ - neighbouring king (the traditional ally of Cupid) ಲ ು - breeze from the Malaya mountain (laden with the fragrance of sandal wood found there, by poetic convention) ಆೂೀನ ಥಃ - the war chariot
ಾ ಅ ಏಃ - even thus and alone ಸವಂ - all ಹ ಸುೇೀ - Oh daughter of the snowy mountain ( Himalayas personified as Himavaan,)! (Sakti) - some sort (inexpresseble) of compassion
ಕಾಂ ಅ ೃಪಾಂ ಅಪಾಂಾ ೇೀ ಅಪಾಂಾ ೇೀ - from the corner of your eye ಲಾ - having obtained ಜಗ ಇದಂ ಜಗ ಇದಂ - this world ಅನಂಗಃ - Ananga (the bodiless one), (Cupid) ಜೇೀ - triumphs
The bow is flowery. flowery. The bow string is made of bees. The five (flowers) are the arrows. Vasanta is the neighbouring king (ally). The breeze from the Malaya mountain is the war chariot. Even thus and (all) alone, Oh daughter of the snowy mountain! having obtained some sort compassion from the corner of your eye, Ananga triumphs over all this world. (The eyes of Sakti bestows triumph to Cupid. Cf SVL Verse 5 : The feet of Siva bestows bliss to the devotee)
ಾಂೀ ಾಾ ಲಭ ುಂಭಸತನ ನಾ ೀಾ ಧೇಯೀ ಂದರ ವದಾ , ನುಾಾ ಪಾಂ ನುಾಾ ಪಾಂ ಸೃ ದಾ ೇೈಃ ಾತಾಾತ ಾಾತಂ ನಃ ುಾೇೂೀ ುಕಾ . ೭ . ಕಾಂೀ ಕಾಂೀ ಾಾ - one who has a tinkling fillet girdle ಲಭ - young elephant ುಂಭ ಸತನ ನಾ - one curved by a bosom like lik e the frontal globes of a young elephant
ೀಾ ಧೇಯೀ - one who is lean in the waist - fully developed ಂದರ ವದಾ - one with a face like the autumnal moon ನುಃ ಾಾ - bow, arrows ಪಾಂ ಸೃಂ ಅ - noose and goad ದಧಾಾ ೇೈಃ - one who bears in the palm of her hands ಾತ - in front ಆಾತಂ - let her dwell ನಃ - of us ಂ ುಃ - of the destroyer of the three cities of the demons or the
three
bodies of man,� (Siva) ಆೇೂೀ ುಕಾ - "I" conciousness Let her dwell in front of us, who has a tinkling fillet girdle, who is curved by a bosom like the frontal globes of a young elephant, who is lean in the waist, who has a face like the fully developed autumnal moon, who bears in the palm of her hands bow, arrows, noose and goad, and who is the ``I" conciousness of Siva.p; (Worshipping (Worsh ipping the body of Sakti. Cf SVL Verse 7 : Worshipping Siva by one's body).
ಸುಧಾ ಂಧೂೀೇಧೇಯೀ ಸು ಾಟೀ ವೃೇೀ ೀಪೀೇ ೀೀವನವೀ ಂಾಗೃೇೀ , ಶಾಕಾೇೀ ಂಚೀೇ ಶವ ಂ ಲಾಂ ಭಜಂ ಾಂ ಾಯಃ ನ ಾನಂದಲೀಮ . ೮ . ಸುಧಾ - nectar ಂಧೂೀೇಃ ಧೇಯೀ - in the midst of the ocean ಸು ಾಟೀ - park of divine trees ವೃೇೀ - surrounded by ೀಪೀೇ - in a gem like island ೀ ಉವನವೀ - pocessed of a garden of Kadamba trees
ಂಾ ಗೃೇೀ - in a house made of the Cintamani (wish yeilding gem) ಶಾ ಆಕಾೇೀ - shaped like Sivaa (the Sakti triangle of the Sricakra) ಂಚೀೇ - in the bed stead ಶವ - Parama Siva (the supremely auspicious one) ಂ ಲಾಂ - dwelling in the couch ಭಜಂ ಾಂ - worship you ಾಯಃ ನ - a few blessed ones ಆನಂದ ಆನಂದ ಲೀಮ - the wave of intellect - bliss A few blessed ones worship you, the wave of intellect - bliss, dwelling in the couch of Parama Siva (himself), in a bed stead shaped like the Sakti triangle, in a house made of the Cintamani, pocessed of a garden of Kadamba trees, surrounded by a park of divine trees, tr ees, in the midst of the ocean of nectar. (The blessed ones worship Sakti. Cf SVL Verse 8 : The ignorant i gnorant do not worship Siva).
ಹೀಂ ಾಧಾೇೀ ೇೀ ುವಂ ಂ ಂ ಾಾೇೀ ೇೀ ೃುಾಕಾು , ೇೂೀ ಭೂರಧೇಯೀ ಸಲ ಾ ುಲಥಂ ಸಾರೇೀ ೇ ಸ ಾಯ ೇೀ . ೯ . ಹೀಂ ಾಧಾೇೀ - the earth element in the Muladhara, (the 4 petalled lotus yogic cakra, or the level of conciousness corresponding to Bhuloka) ೇೀ - and the water element in the Manipura, (the 10 petalled lotus yogic cakra or the level of conciousness corresponding to Suvarloka). ುವಂ - the fire element
ಂ ಂ ಾಾೇೀ - present in the Svadhishthana, (the 9 petalled lotus yogic ೃ
cakra or the level of conciousness corresponding to Bhuvarloka). ು - the air element in the heart, (the 12 petalled lotus yogic Anahata

ಾಯ - with (your) husband (Sadasiva) ೇೀ - you sport Having passed through all via the Kulapatha : the earth element in the Muladhara, the water element in the Manipura, the fire element present in the Svadhishthana, the air element in the heart, (going) above the space element, and the mind element between the brows, you sport in secret with your husband in the thousand petalled lotus. (The devotee leads Sakti to her lord Sadasiva in the thousand petalled lotus, via the six lotus cakras. Cf SVL Verse 9 : The devotee submits the lotus of the heart to the lord of Uma).
ಸುಧಾಧಾಾಾೇೈ ುಗಾಂಗೇೈಃ ರಂಂ ಂಂೀ ನ ಾಾ ಸಃ , ಅಾಯ ಾಂ ಭೂಂ ಭುಜಗಭುಯಷವಲಂ ಸಾಾನಂ ೃಾ ಸ ುಲುಂಡೀೇ ು . ೧೦ . ಸುಧಾ - nectar ಧಾಾ ಆಾೇೈಃ - with a torrential stream ುಗಾಂ - from within (your) pair of feet ಗೇೈಃ - trickling ರಂಂ - the body (made of the five elements) ಂಂೀ - infusing ನಃ ಅ - once again ಸ ಆಾ ಸಃ - from the luminous collection of nectar (the internal Moon of the Sahasrara or thousand petalled lotus in the brain) ಅಾಯ - having reached
ಾಂ ಭೂಂ - your territory
ಭುಜಗ ಭಂ - similar to a serpent ಅುಯಷ ವಲಂ - three and a half coils ಸಂ ಆಾನಂ ೃಾ - having made yourself ಸ - you (as the subtle Kundalini Sakti) sleep ುಲುಂಡೀೇ - in the Kulakunda or Muladhara cakra ು - pocessed of a hole You infusing the body with a torrential stream of nectar, nectar, trickling from within (your) pair of feet, once again having reached your territory, territory, from the Moon of the Sahasrara, (and) having made yourself into three and a half coils similar to a serpent, you sleep in the Kulakunda (which is) possessed of a hole. (The body of the devotee is drenched by the nectar of Sakti's feet. Cf SVL Verse 10 :The devotee is engrossed in the bliss of remembering Siva's feet. -

ುಃ ಶರೀಂಠೇೈಃ ಶವುವಃ ಂ ರಾಃ ಂೇೂೀನವ ಲರೃಃ , ುಾಂ ವಸುದಲ ಾಂ ವಸುದಲ ಾರ ರವಲ ರೇೀಾಃ ಾಂ ವ ಕೂೀೇಾಃ ಾಃ . ೧೧ . ುಃ ಶರೀಂಠೇೈಃ - with the four Srikanta (Siva) cakras ಶವ ುವಃ - Sivayuvati (Sakti) cakras ಂಃ ಅ - and with five ರಾಃ - seperate from ಂೇೂೀಃ - from those of Sambhu (the Siva) cakras ನವಃ ಅ - and with nine ಲ ರೃಃ - source materials of the universe ುಾಂ - forty four ವಸು ದಲ - eight petalled (lotus) ಾ ಅರ - sixteen edged (lotus) ರ ವಲ - three circles
ರ ೇೀಾಃ - with three lines ಾಂ - with ವ ಕೂೀೇಾಃ - the angles of your abode ಾಃ - come to a close The angles of your abode come to a close with forty four with four Srikantha (cakras) and five Sivayuvati (cakras), seperate from the Sambhu (Siva) cakras and (hence) with the nine source materials of the universe, along with the eight petalled (lotus), the sixteen edged (lotus), the three circles (and) with three lines. (The abode of Sakti is the thousand petalled lotus in the brain. Cf SVL Verse 11 : The devotee worships Siva with the lotus of the heart). Note : The twelve petalled Anahata cakra, is at the level of the heart, with Rudra as the presiding deity.
ೀಂ ೌಂದಂ ುಹನ ೇಯೀ ುಲುಂ ೀಂಾರಃ ಲಂೇೀ ಥ ಂ ರಭೃಃ , ಾೇೂೀಕೌುಕಾಯದಲಲಾ ಾಂ ನಾ ೀದುಾಪಾ ಾುಜಯ ದೀಮ . ೧೨ . ೀಂ - your ೌಂದಂ - beauty ುಹನ ೇಯೀ - Oh daughter of the snowy mountain (Himalayas, personified as Himavaan)! (Sakti) ುಲುಂ - to compare
ೀಂಾರಃ - the best of poets ಲಂೇೀ - are able ಥಂ ಅ - somehow or other ಂ ರಭೃಃ - Virinchi (Brahma) and others ಆೇೂೀ ಆೇೂೀ ಔುಕಾಯ - out of ardent desire to see which (your beauty) ಅ ಲಲಾಃ - celestial women ಾಂ ನಾ - attain through the mind (by imagination) ೀಃ ದುಾಪಾಂ ಅ - though difficult to obtain by penance
- Girisa (Lord of the mountains, (Siva) ( one of the states of ಾುಜಯ ದೀಂ - the position of absorption into the deity (one Mukti or Liberation) Oh daughter of the snowy mountain! the best of poets (such as) Virinchi and others are able to compare your beauty somehow or other other.. Out of ardent desire to see which celestial women attain through the mind the position of absorption into Girisa though (it be) difficult to obtain by penance. (Absorption into Siva by the mind (by imagination). Cf SVL Verse 12 : The yogin mind is absorbed in meditation of Siva)
ನಂ ವೀಾಂಸಂ ನನಸಂ ನಸು ಜಂ ಾಪಾಂಾೇೂೀಕೀೇ ನುಧಾವಂ ಃ ಗಲೇೀೀ ಬಂಧಾಃ ುಲ ಸರಸತ ಾ ಠಾ ುರಾಂಚೂೇಯೀ ಠಾ ುರಾಂಚೂೇಯೀ ಗ ದುೂಾ ುವಃ . ೧೩ . ನಂ - a man ವೀಾಂಸಂ - very old ನನ ಸಂ - unpleasant to the eye ನಸು ಜಂ - apathetic in amorous sport ವ ಅಪಾಂಗ - the corner of your eye ಆೇೂೀಕೀೇ - within range of sight ಂ - falls ಅನುಧಾವಂ - pursue ಃ - by the hundreds ಗಲ ೇೀೀ ಗಲ ೇೀೀ ಬಂಧಾಃ - with braided hair loosened ು ಲ - the pitcher like breasts (shapely bossom) ಸರಸತ ಾ - with cloth slipping ಠಾ - suddenly ುರ ಕಾಂಯಃ ುರ ಕಾಂಯಃ - waist ornaments snapping ಗ ದುೂಾಃ - with silk garments dropping down
ುವಃ - young women (personifications of
Fame, Wealth, Wealth, Speech,
Intellect, Firmness, Patience etc.) When a man falls within range of sight of the corner of your eye, (though) very old, unpleasant to the eye, and apathetic in amorous sport, young women pursue him by the hundreds, with braided hair loosened, with cloth slipping from the shapely bosom, with waist ornaments snapping suddenly and with silk garments dropping down. (The devotee is old, unpleasant, apathetic - unattractive by worldly norms. Cf SVL Verse 13 : The devotee is dull witted, blind, poor - unattractive by worldly norms).
ೌ ಷಂಚಾ ಷಂಚಾ ಸ ಸ ಂಚಾದುದಕೀೇ ುಾೇೀ ಾಷು ಂಚಾದೇೀ , ಃಷಟಂ ಃಷಟಂ ನ ನ ುಃಷ ೀ ಾೇತೀಾಯ ೀಾಯ ವಾಂಬುಜ ುಗಮ . ೧೪ . ೌ - in the earth element (of the Muladhara cakra) ಷಂಚಾ - fifty six ಸ ಂಚಾ - fifty two ಉದಕೀೇ - in the water element (of the Manipura cakra) ುಾೇೀ - in the fire element (of the Svadhishthana cakra) ಾಷ - sixty two ು ಂಚಾ - fifty four ಅೇೀ - in the air element (of the Anahata cakra) - in the space element (of the Vishuddhi cakra) ಃ ಷಟಂ - twice thirty six ನ - and in the mind element elem ent (of the Aangya cakra) ುಃ ಷ - sixty four ಇ ೀ ಾಃ - those rays that are thus (disposed) ೇೀಾಂ ಅ ಉ - even above those ವ - your
ಪಾದ ಅಂಬುಜ ುಗಮ - pair of lotus feet Your pair of lotus feet are even above those rays that are thus (disposed) (di sposed) : fifty six in the earth element, fifty fi fty two in the water element, sixty two in the fire element, fifty four in the air element, twice thirty six in the space element, and sixty four in the mind element. (Sakti is both immanent and transcendent. Cf SVL Verse 14 : Siva visualised as the relative of the devotee is immanent).

How cannot words charged with the sweetness of honey, milk and grape not be present in the words, for good people who have bowed once to you, who is pure as the autumnal moonlight, who has a tiara on the mass of twisted hair endowed with the moon, and whose hands (gesticulate) the granting of boon (and) protection from fear f ear,, (and hold) the crystal beads and book. ೀಂಾರಾಂ ಚೀೇಃ ಲವನ ಾಾ ುಂ ಭಜಂೇೀ ೀ ಸಂಃ ದುಾೀವ ಭವೀಮ , ಂ ಪೇರೀಾಯಸತು ರಂಾ ಲೀ ಗೀಾಾದ ಸಾಂ ಂಜನೀ . ೧೬ . ೀಂಾರಾಂ ಚೀೇಃ - the minds of the best of poets ಲ ವನ - lotus cluster ಾಲ ಆ ುಂ - light of the morning sun ಭಜಂೇೀ - (they) worship ೀ ಸಂಃ - those few good men ಅುಾಂ ಏವ ಭವೀಮ - you as the red dawn itself ಂ ಪೇರೀಾಯಃ - of the beloved of Virinchi (Saraswati) ು - fresher (ever fresh) ರಂಾ ಲೀ - wave of the (poetic) sentiment of love ಗೀಾಃ ಾಃ - by profound words ದ - (they) give ಸಾಂ - to good men ಂಜನಂ - (aesthetic) pleasure ಅೀ - they To the lotus cluster like minds of the best of poets, you are the light of the morning sun. Those few good men who worship you as the red dawn itself, they give (aesthetic) pleasure to good men, by profound words (like) the fresher wave of the sentiment of love (emnating) from the beloved of
Virinchi (herself). (The poetry of the devotee compares with that of the wife of Virinchi. Cf SVL Verse 16 : May the heads of Virinchi be protected by Siva).
ಸರೀಾಚಾಂ ಶ ಶಾಭಂಗ ುಃ ವಶಾಯಾಯಾತ ಂ ಸ ಜನ ಸಂಂ ಃ , ಸ ಾ ಕಾಾಯಾಂ ಭವ ಾಂ ಭಂುಃ ವಚೂೀೇಾೇೀೀ ೀೀ ವದನಾೂೀದ ುೇೈಃ . ೧೭ . ಸರೀಃ ಾಚಾಂ - with the generators of speech (Vagdevatas) ಶ ಶಾ - moon stone gem ಭಂಗ ುಃ - lustre of the broken ವಶೀ ಆಾಯಃ - with Vasini and others (the 18 Vagdevatas) ಾಂ ಸ - together with you ಜನ - Oh Mother! ೃ ಾಾೇತೀ ಹಶಾ ವ ಃ , ಸ ಸಪಾಾಂ ದಂ ುಂಾ ಇವ ಜಾ ಾ ದೃಾ ದೃಾ ಸುಖ ಸುಧಾ ಧಾಾ . ೨೦ . ಂೀಂ - scattering ಅಂೇೀಭಯಃ - from the body parts ುುಂಬ - multitude of rays ಅೃ ಸಂ - the essence of nectar ೃ - in the heart ಾಂ - you ಆೇತೀ - he fixes ಹ ಶಾ - moon stone ಂ ಇವ - like an idol ಃ ಸಃ - he, who ಸಪಾಾಂ ದಂ - the pride of serpents (poison) - he destroys ುಂಾಃ ಇವ - like the lord of birds (Garuda) ಜ ಾ ಾ - those scorched by fever ದೃಾ - by a look ಸುಖ - he comforts ಸುಧಾ ಧಾ ಾ - endowed with a (blood) vessel (nadi) streaming nectar (and not blood) He who fixes you in the heart scattering from the body parts, the essence of nectar like the multitude of rays from an idol of moonstone, he destroys the pride of serpents like the lord of birds, (and) comforts those scorched by fever by a (mere) look, endowed (as he is) with the vessel streaming nectar. nectar. ಷಾಣಂ – seated ಷಾಣಂ - the six ಅ - and (the three granthis or knots - Brahma, Vishnu and ಉ
Rudra,
seperating the cakras) – above ಾಾಂ - the lotuses (yogic cakras)

(The mind of the devotee, free from sin and illusion, perceives Siva - Sakti in the great lotus forest. Cf SVL, Verse 21 : Siva - Sakti reach the pure, lotus like heart of the devotee).
ಭಾ ಂ ಾೇೀ ದೃಂ ಸುಾಂ
ಇ ೇೂತೀುಂ ೀುಂ ಾಂ ಾಂ ಥ ಥ ಭಾ ಃ , ೇೈವ ಂ ೇ ೇ ಜಾುಜಯ ದೀಂ ುುಂದ ಬರೇಂದರ ಸು ು ೀಾಾಮ . ೨೨ . ಭಾ - Oh Bhavani! (Sakti) ಂ ಾೇೀ - on me your slave - you bestow ದೃಂ - look ಸುಾಂ - endowed with compassion ಇ – thus ೇೂತೀುಂ ೀುಂ ಾಂ - desiring to praise ಥ - says ಭಾ ಂ ಇ - may I become you, thus (by

At that moment itself itself,, you, whose feet receive the oblation of lights from the bright diadems of Mukunda, Brahma, and Indra, grant to him the state of perpetual absorption into the deity. ಸಾ ವಃ ಸವಂ ದನುಗೃಾಣ ಶವ ಸತಾಾಾಲಂಬಯ ಾಾಾಲಂಬಯ ೂೀಃ ಭೂರಲೂೀಃ . ೨೪ . ಜಗ ಸೂೇೀ - begets the world ಜಗ ಸೂೇೀ ಧಾಾ - Dhata (Brahma) ಃ ಅವ - Hari (Vishnu) protects ುದರಃ ೇೀ - Rudra destroys ಸುವ - withdrawing ಏ - this (Dhata, Hari and Rudra) ಸಂ ಅ ವಃ - even his own body ಈಃ - Isa - obscures (Isa withdraws into Sadasiva. ie universal dissolution) ಸಾ ವಃ - preceeded by the word "Sada" (perpetual) ಸವಂ ಇದಂ ಇದಂ - in all this ಅನುಗೃಾಣ – obliges - indeed ಶವಃ - Siva (Sadasiva, who is passive and in eternal union with Sakti) ವ ಆಾಂ ಆಲಂಬಯ - stayed by your order ೂೀಃ - exhibiting momentary movement ಭೂರ ಲೂೀಃ - of the eyebrows Dhata begets the world. (Sakti) ಭೇೀ ಾ ಭೇೀ ಾ - becomes homage ಾ - homage ವ ೂೀಃ - to your feet ಾ ಾ - that made ಾ ಹ - this is appropriate ಪಾದ ಪಾದ - your feet ಉದನ - supporting ೀಸಯ - of the gem (studded) pedestal ೇೀ - in proximity ಾಃ ಾಃ - (they) stand ಹ ಏೇೀ - indeed these (gods) - eternally ುು ಃ - hands held together in the shape of a bud ಉತಂಸ ಂಸ ುಾಃ - cresting (their) crowns Oh Sivaa ! that homage made to your feet becomes homage to the three gods born of your three properties. This is appropriate (for) indeed these stand in proximity to the gem (studded) pedestal, supporting your feet, with hands held together in the form of a bud, cresting (their) crowns eternally. eternally. ಂಃ - Virinchi (Brahma) ಂಂ ವರಜ - proceeds to death (dissolution into the five elements) ಃ - Hari (Vishnu) ಆೀ ಂ - meets an end ಾಂ - destruction ೀಾಃ - Kinaasa (Yama, the lord of death) ಭಜ - obtains ನದಃ - Dhanada (Kubera, the lord of wealth) ಾ ನಂ - proceeds to death d eath) ಂರೀ - are in deep sleep (of death) ಾೇೀಂರೀ ಃ ಅ - the group of Mahendras (Indra the lord of gods) also ಸಂೀ ದೃಾ - with eyes closed ಾ ಸಂಾೇೀ ಅ - in this the great universal destruction - he sports ಸ - Oh Sati! (chaste wife) (Sakti) ಃ ಃ ಅೌ - this your husband (Sadasiva) Virinchi proceeds to death. Hari meets an end. Kinaasa obtains destruction. Dhanada proceeds to death. ಜೀ ಜಲಃ ಶಲಂ ಸಲ ುಾರ ಾ ಗಃ ಪಾರದಯ ರಾಾಯು ಃ , ರಾಃ ಸಂೇೀಃ ಸುಖಲಾಾ ದೃಾ ಸಾ ಾಸತವ ಭವು ೇ ಲಮ . ೨೭ . ಜಃ - muttered prayers ಜಲಃ - speech

ದಯಂೇೀ - they die ೇೀ – all - Vidhi (Brahma) ಖಃ ಆಾಯಃ - Satamkha (Indra) and others ಷದಃ - inhabitants of heaven ಾಲಂ – dreadful - because ೇೀಲಂ - poison ಬವಃ - one who has swallowed a mouthful ಕಾಲ ಲಾ - subject to time (does not succumb to death) ನ - not ಂೇೂೀಃ - for Sambhu (Siva) ಲಂ ಲಂ - because of it ವ ಜನ - your Oh Mother! ಕೇೈಭ ದಃ - the destroyer of (the demon) Kaitabha (Vishnu) ಠೂೀೇೇೀ ಕೂೀೇಟೀೇೀ - the hard crown ಸಲ - you (will) trip ಜಹ - avoid ಜಂಾ ುಮ - the crown of the enemy of Jambha (Indra) ರರೀಷು ಏೇೀಷು - when these (gods) are paying obeissance ರಸಭಂ - impetuously ಉಾಸಯ ಭವನಂ - who approaches (your) abode ಭವಸಯ - of Bhava (Siva) ಅಭುಯಾೇೀ ೇೀ - when you rise in honour ವ - your ಜೇೂೀತಃ - the words of the retinue ಜೇೀ - may it triumph "Avoid the crown of Virinchi in front! You (will) trip on the hard crown of Kaitabhabhida! Avoid the crown of Jambhari!" May (such) words of your retinue triumph, when you impetuously rise in honour of Bhava, who approaches (your) abode, when these (gods) are paying obeissance. (The celestials pray to Sakti. ೇೀೇಯೀ - Oh one worthy of adoration! (Sakti) ೇಯೀ - Oh eternal one! (Sakti)
ಾಂ ಅಂ ಇ - you as the self (the aphorisitic declaration ಅಂ ಬರಾ ) ಸಾ - always ಾವ – meditates ಃ - he who ಂ ಆಂ - Oh how wonderful! ಸಯ - to him ರನನ ಸೃಂ - the wealth of absorption into the three eyed one (Siva) ೃಃ - as equivalent to (but a piece of) straw ಾ ಸಂವಾಃ - the great fire of dissolution - performs ೀಾಜನ ಂ - the ceremony of waving lights (as an act of adoration to the deity) Oh one worthy of adoration! Oh eternal one! he who constantly meditates on you, who is surrounded by the light rays of Anima and others generated from your own body, as the self, to him (the devotee) who considers the wealth of absorption into Siva as equivalent to (but) a piece of straw, straw, the great fire of dissolution performs the ceremony of waving lights. ಭುವನಂ - the world ಃ ಃ - desisted - that, that (to each individually) ರಸವ - capable of generating a result ಂೇಃ - restricted to ುಃ - Pasupati (Siva)
ನಃ – but ಬಂಧಾ ಬಂಧಾ - importuned by you ಅಲ ುಾಥ - all the principal objects of life (Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha) - brings together as one
ಏ ಘಾ ಸಂರಂ - independently ೇೀ ಂರಂ - your spiritual discipline (the SriVidya expounded in the Subhagamapancakam, following the Vedic path and aiming at Moksha) ಲಂ - the surface of the earth ಅಾೀ - caused to descend
ಇದಮ - this Pasupati desisted, having deceived all the world, with the sixty si xty four spiritual disciplines, which are capable of generating a result, restricted to each individually.. But, importuned by you, he caused this, your spiritual discipline individually which independently brings together as one, all the principal objects of human life, to descend to the surface of the earth. (Pasupati deceived all the world. Cf SVL, verse 31 : Pasupati rendered the greatest of help to the world).
ಶವಃ ತಃ ಕಾಃ ಥ ಃ ಶೀಃ ಸೇೂೀ ಂಸಃ ರಸತದನು ದನು ಾ ಾ ಃ , ಅೀ ೃೇೀಾತ ೀಾತಸೃವಾೇೀಷು ಸೃವಾೇೀಷು ಘಟಾ ಭಜಂೇೀ ವಾೇತೀ ವ ಜನ ಾಾವವಾಮ . ೩೨ . ಶವಃ - the word Siva standing for the syllable `ka' ತಃ - the word Sakti standing for the syllable `e' ಕಾಃ - the word Kama (Cupid) standing for the syllable `i' ಃ - the word Kshiti (Earth) standing for the syllable `la' ಅಥಃ - then ಃ - the word Ravi (Sun) standing for the syllable `ha' ಶೀಃ - the word Sitakirana (Moon) standing for the syllable `sa' ಸಃ - the word Smara (Cupid) standing for the syllable `ka' ಂಸಃ - the word Hamsa standing for the syllable `ha' ರಃ - the word Shakra (Indra) standing for the syllable `la' ಅನು ಅನು - and following that ಾ - the word Paraa standing for the syllable `sa'

(Sakti) ಾ ಅವವಾಂ - parts of (your) name Siva, Sakti, Kama, Kshiti (the words standing for the syllables `ka', `e', `i', `la'), then Ravi, Sitakirana, Smara, Hamsa, Sakra (the words standing for the syllables `ha', `sa', `ka', `ha', `la'), and following that Paraa, Maara, Hari (the words standing for the syllables `sa', `ka', `la'). Oh Mother! with the three Hrimkaras joined to the ends of these your syllables, they become parts of your name (the fifteen syllabled mantra with the sixteenth secret syllable `Srim' becomes the SriVidya mantra) (The SriVidya containing the syllable `Sri' and the most sacred mantra for worship of Sakti. ಜುಂಃ - pouring oblations into the sacrificial fire ಸು ಘ - fragrant clarified butter ಧಾಾ - stream ಆು ೇೈಃ - with hundreds of oblations Having placed these three : Smara, Yoni, Lakshmi (standing for the syllables `klim', `hrim' and `srim') in the beginning of your mantra, Oh Eternal one !, a few conoisseurs of endless great sacrifice worship you with the circles of the rosary with Cintamani gems tied by thread (and) by pouring oblations into the fire of Sivaa, with hundreds of oblations of fragrant streams of clarified butter. (The devotees of Sakti perform endless sacrifice. Cf SVL, verse 33 : The devotee of Siva worships only once).

(Oh glorious one!) (Sakti) ನವ ಆಾನಂ - one having nine parts (Kala, Kula,Naman, Jnana Citta, Nada, Bindu, Kalaa and Jiva) (Siva) ಅನಘಂ – sinless ಅಃ - therefore
ೇೀಷಃ ೇೀೀ - the Accessory - Principal ಇ - of the nature of ಅಂ - this ಉಭ ಾಧಾಾ - being common to both ಃ ಃ – exists ಸಂಬಂಃ - relationship ಾಂ - in you (two) ಸಸ - who are equipoised ಾನಂದ - Parananda (transcendent bliss or Siva)
ೂೀಃ - Paraa (conciousness or Sakti) Oh Bhagavati! you are the body of Sambhu, endowed with the sun - moon for the bosom. (Sakti is Accessory to Siva the Principal at the time of dissolution). I consider the sinless one with nine parts (Siva) as your body. (Siva is Accessory to Sakti the Principal at the time of creation). Therefore, this relationship of the nature of Accessory - Principal exists being common to both, who are Parananda and Paraa equipoised. Note : This is the view of the Purvakaulas : the relative dominance of Sakti. (At the time of dissolution Siva is the Principal and Sakti is the Accessory and vice versa at creation. ನಸತ ಂ ಯೀ ಂ ುದ ುಾ ನಸತ ಂ ಾಸತ ಂ ಭೂಸತ ಭೂಸತ ಾಾಂ ನ ಹ ಮ , ೀವ ಾಾನಂ ುಂ ವಾ ಾನಂಾಕಾಂ ಶವುವ ಾೇೀನ ಭೃೇೀ . ೩೫ . ನಃ ಂ - you are the mind (element in the Angya cakra) ಯೀ ಂ - you are the space (element in the Vishuddhi cakra) ು ಅ ು ಅ - you are the air (element in the Anahata cakra) ು ಾಃ ು ಾಃ ಅ - you are the fire (element in the Svadhishtana cakra) ಂ ಆಃ - you are the water (element in the Manipura cakra) ಂ ಭೂಃ - you are the earth (element in the Muladhara cakra) ಾಂ - when you have trasformed (thus) ನ ಹ ಮ - there is nothing else indeed ಂ ಏವ - you yourself ಸ ಆಾನಂ - own self ುಂ - to transform ವಾ - the universe ಆನಂದ ಆನಂದ ಆಕಾಂ - the form of conciousness and bliss (Cit Sakti and Ananda Bhairava or the form of Brahman preceeding creation) ಶವುವ - Oh wife of Siva! ಾೇೀನ - by intention ಭೃೇೀ - you bear
You are mind, you are space, you are air, air, you are fire, you are water (and) you are earth. When you have transformed (thus), there is nothing else indeed. You yourself to transform your own self into the universe, bear the form of conciousness - bliss by intention, i ntention, Oh wife of Siva! Note : This is the view of the Uttarakaulas : the absolute dominance of Sakti. (Sakti is the micro and macrocosmic universe. univ erse. Cf SVL, verse 35 : Siva is all pervasive, within and without).
ಾಾರಸಂ ನ ಶ ಕೂೀೇಟ ದುಯಂ ಂ ಂಭುಂ ವಂೇೀ ಪಾಂ ಾ , ಾಾಯ ಭಕಾ ಾಾಯ ಭಕಾ ಶ ುೀಾಷೀ ಾೇೂೀಕೀೇ ೇೂೀಕೀೇ ವಸ ಹ ಾೇೂೀ ಭುವೇೀ . ೩೬ . ವ - your ಆಾರಸಂ - who is present in the Angya cakra (of the devotee or alternatively the four Siva cakras in the internal Sricakra in between the brows) ನ ಶ ಕೂೀೇಟ - ten million suns and moons
ದುಯ ಂ - who bears the lustre of ಂ ಂಭುಂ - Sambhu called Para (Supreme bliss, Siva) ವಂೇೀ - I salute ಪಾಂಂ - who is touched on both sides ಾ - by Paraa Cit (Supreme conciousness, Sakti) ಂ ಆಾಯ - worshipping whom (Para Sambhu) ಭಕಾ - with devotion ಶ ುೀಾಂ ಅಷೀ - that is beyond the sun, moon and fire ಾೇೂೀಕೀೇ - in the invisible ಅೇೂೀಕೀೇ - unlike the (visible) world ವಸ ಹ - he indeed lives ಾೇೂೀ ಭುವೇೀ - in the luminous plane (the Sahasrara cakra) I salute the Para Sambhu who is present in your Angya cakra, who bears the lustre of ten million suns and moons, (and) who is touched on both sides by Paraa Cit. He, worshipping whom (Para Sambhu) with devotion, certainly lives in the luminous plane, that is beyond the sun, moon and fire, which is
invisible and unlike the (visible) world. Note : The arrangement of the verses 36 - 41 is according to the order of origin of the five elements, one from the other : mind, space, air, fire, water and earth and corresponds to the respective cakras mentioned in verses 36 41. (The devotee worships Siva and Sakti in the Sricakra within the body. Cf SVL, verse 36 :The devotee worships Siva within the body).

ಸುಲ ಸಂಲ ಂೇೈ ಂ ಸುಲ ಸಂಲ ಭೇೀ ಂಸದಂದಂ ಾಂ ಾನಸಮ , ಾಾಪಾದಾ ಗು ಾಯ ಃ ಾದೇತೀ ೇೂೀಾ ೇೂೀಾ ಗುಲದಃ ಗುಲದಃ ಇವ . ೩೮ . ಸುಲ - fully bloomed ಸಂ ಲಂ ಸಂ ಲಂ - lotus of knowledge ಂದಃ ಏ ಂ - which relish only the honey ಭೇೀ - I adore ಂಸ ದಂದಂ - the pair of swans, Ham (Siva) and Sa (Sakti) ಂ ಅ - which are indescribable ಾಂ - of great men ಾನಸ ಂ - which move in the Manasa lake of the heart (swans permanently reside in the Manasa lake as per poetic convention) ಆಾಪಾ ಆಾಪಾ - from whose conversation
ಅಾದ ಗು - enumerated as eighteen (Vedas, Vedangas etc) ಾಯಃ - systems of knowledge ಃ – developed ಆದೇತ ಆದೇತೀ - which accept ೇೂೀಾ - from sin ಗುಂ ಅಲಂ - all virtue ಅದಃ ಇವ - like milk from water (as per poetic convention swans can seperate milk from water) I adore the indescribable pair of swans (Siva and Sakti), which relish only the honey of the fully bloomed lotus of knowledge, which move in the Manasa lake of the hearts of great men, from whose conversation the systems of knowledge enumerated as eighteen developed (and) which accept all virtue from sin, like (seperating) milk from water. water.
(Siva and Sakti are in the Manasa lake of the heart. Cf SVL, verse 38 : Siva and Sakti are in the lake of the heart).
ವ ಾಾೇೀ ೇೀ ುವಾ ಂ ೀಡೀೇ ಸಂವಂ ಜನ ೀಂ ಾಂ ಸಾಮ , ಾೇೂೀಕೀೇ ೇೂೀಕಾ ೇೂೀಕಾ ದ ದ ಕೂೇರೀ ೇೀ ದಾಾರ ಾ ದೃಃ ಶಶುಚಾಂ . ೩೯ . ವ ಾಾೇೀ ೇೀ - in your Svadhishthana cakra ವಂ - the fire element ಅಾ - having stationed ಂ - uninterruptedly ಂ ಈಡೀೇ - I praise ಸಂವಂ - fire of dissolution (Siva as Rudra, the lord of dissolution or Sakti conceived as the fire of dissolution) ಜನ - Oh Mother! (Sakti)
ೀಂ ಾಂ ಸಾಂ - and that great Samayaa (Sakti) ಆೇೂೀಕೀೇ ಆೇೂೀಕೀೇ - the sight of which (the fire) ೇೂೀಕಾ ದ ೇೂೀಕಾ ದ - burns the worlds - great ಕೂೇರೀ ೇೀ - impelled by anger (of Rudra) ದಾ ಆಾರ - tender with compassion ಾ ದೃಃ - that look ಶಶಂ ಉಚಾಂ - cooling remedy - effects Oh Mother! having stationed the fire element in your Svadhishthana cakra, I praise uninterruptedly that fire of dissolution (Siva as Rudra) and that great Samayaa. The sight of which, (the fire) impelled by the great anger (of Rudra) burns the worlds, (while) that look (of your's), tender with compassion effects a cooling remedy. (Sakti's look effects a cooling remedy. remedy.

ಟಂಂ ಕಾ ಂ ಸುಾ ಸುಾಾ ಾಭ ೇೀಂದರನುಷಮ ೀಂದರನುಷಮ , ವ ಾಯಂ ೀಘಂ ೇೈ ಂ ೇೀೇೀ ವಷಂಂ ಹ ತಂ ರಭುವನಮ . ೪೦ . ಟಂಂ - as lightning ಕಾ - with Sakti ಂ - foe of darkness ಾ - flashing - shining ಾಾ ಆಭ - variegated gem studded ornaments ದ - formed ಇಂದರ ನುಷಂ - rainbow ವ - your ಾಯಂ ೀಘಂ - dark cloud ಂ ಅ - indescribable - the Manipura cakra ಏ ಂ - sole resort ೇೀೇೀ - I worship ವಷಂಂ - which showers ಹಃ - the fire of dissolution ತಂ ರಭುವನಂ - the burnt three worlds (heaven, earth and nether worlds) I worship that indescribable dark cloud which showers on the three worlds burnt by the fire of dissolution, which has your Manipura cakra as the sole resort, with Sakti as lightning flashing as the foe of darkness, (and) with a rainbow formed by (your) shining variegated gem studded ornaments. (The rain water of Sakti as the cloud cools the burnt worlds. Cf SVL, verse 40 : The nectarean water of Siva's tale causes the crop of devotion to fructify).
ಾಧಾೇೀ ೇೀ ಸ ಸಾ ಾಸಯಾ ನಾಾನಂ ೇಯೀ ನವಸ ಾಾಂವ ನಂ , ಉಾಾಯೀಾಾಯುದ ುಯ ಯ ದಾ ಸಾಾಾಯಂ ಜೇೀ ಜನ ಜನೀ ಜನೀ ಜಗದಮ ಜಗದಮ . ೪೧ . ವ ಆಧಾೇೀ ೇೀ - in your Muladhara cakra ಸ ಸಾ - with Samayaa (Sakti) ಾಸಯ ಾ - intent on the Lasya dance (dance of women) ನವ ಆಾನಂ - one having nine parts (Siva) ೇಯೀ - I worship ನವ ಸ - the nine sentiments (of poetics) ಾ ಾಂವ - the wonderful Tandava dance (dance of men) ನಂ - dancing ಉಾಾಯಂ ಏಾಾಯಂ - in these two ಉದ ಂ ಉಯ ಯ - having creation as the object ದಾ ಸಾಾಾಯಂ - who are endowed with compassion ಜೇೀ - acquired ಜನ ಜನೀ - a father and mother ಜಗ ಇದಮ ಜಗ ಇದಮ - this world In your Muladhara cakra, I worship Samayaa (Sakti) intent on the Lasya dance, with Navatman (Siva) dancing the wonderful Tandava Tandava dance (with it's) nine sentiments. This world has acquired a father and mother in these two, having creation as the object, (and) who are endowed with compassion. (Worship (Wo rship of Samayaa, the name of Sakti assigned by b y the Samayacarins who worship mentally and Navatman, the name of Siva assigned by the Kaulas who worship externally externally.. Cf SVL, verse 41 : The mind (for internal worship) and the sense and motor organs (for external worship) engage in the worship of Siva).

(Sakti) ೀ ಃ - he who narrates ೀಡೀೇಚಾಾ ಾ - lustre of the celestial orbs ು ಬಲಂ - enveloped by variegated colour ಂದರ ಲಂ - the fragment of the moon (crescent moon) I ndra (rainbow) ನುಃ ೌಾೀಂ - bow of Indra ಂ ಇ - is it? ನ ಬಧಾ - will he not compose? ಷಾಮ - in the hymn Oh daughter of the snowy mountain! he who narrates of your golden crown with the twelve suns which have become gems that are densely combined, will he not compose in the hymn that the fragment of the moon is the rainbow, enveloped enveloped as it is by variegated colour from the lustre of the celestial orbs (the suns)?

In which (face), ( face), there is a slight smile, the lustrous teeth are the beautiful lotus filaments, which is fragrant, and in which the honey bees of the eyes of Siva rejoice.

ೀೀ - your ೇೀಾರಾಯಂ - with (your) eyes ು ುಾಯಂ - beautiful as bees ೃ ಗುಂ ನುಃ - the bow with (bow) string fixed ೇಯೀ - I think ಸೇಯೀ ಗೃಹೀಂ - grasped by the left hand ೇೀಃ - of the husband of Rati (Cupid) ರಕೂೀೇೇೀ ುೌ - the elbows and fist ಸಗ ಗ - conceals ಗೂಢಾಂಂ - hidden middle ಉೀ - Oh Uma! (Sakti) Oh Uma! Oh one devoted to destroying fear of the world ! I think your slightly curved eyebrows are (like) the bow of Cupid, with (your eyes), beautiful as bees, the fixed bow string, grasped by the left hand, with the middle hidden by the elbow and the fist which conceals (it). ಜಃ - the property of rajas (red as per poetic convention) ಸಂ - the property of satvam (white as per poetic convention) ಭರ - bearing

ರೀುಂ ನಃ ು ಾೀನ ೃದೀ ದಾ ೇೇೀೇು ವಲ ಾಯ ುಃ , ನದಃ ೇೀೇೂೀ ಗಂಾ ನನೀ ುರವುಮ ರಾಾಂ ೀಾಾುನ ಸಂೇೀದನಘಮ . ೫೪ . ರೀ ುಂ - in order to purify ನಃ - us ು ಾೀನ ೃದೀ - Oh one with a heart subservient to Pasupati (Siva)! ದಾ ೇಃ ೇೀೇಃ - with eyes allied to compassion ಅು - red ವಲ - white ಾಯ ುಃ - (and) dark blue colours ನದಃ ೇೀೇೂೀ - the river Sona (red in colour) ಗಂಾ - the river Ganga (white in colour) ನ ನಾ ಇ - the river Kalindi or Yamuna (dark in colour), which are ುರವಂ - it is certain ಅುಂ - this ರಾಾಂ ೀಾಾಂ - the three holy rivers ಉನ - you bring near ಸಂೇೀದಂ ಅನಘಮ - pure confluence Oh one with a heart subservient to Pasupati! with eyes allied to compassion, (and) with red, white and dark blue colours, it is certain that you bring near
(us) this pure confluence of the three holy rivers which are : the river Sona, the Ganga and the Yamuna in order to purify us.
ೀೇೂೀೇಾಾಯಂ ರಲುದಂ ಾ ಜಗೀ ೇೀಾಯುಃ ಸಂೇೂೀ ಾಜನಯನೀ , ದುೇಾಾೋಂ ಂ ಜಗದೇೀಷಂ ರಲಃ ಾರುಂ ಂಕೀೇ ೃ ೀಾಸತವ ದೃಃ . ೫೫ . ೀಷ - closing of the eye lids ಉೇಾಾಯಂ - opening of the eye lids ರಲಂ ಉದಂ - annihilation (and) creation ಾ ಜಗೀ - the world proceeds to ವ - your ಇ ಆುಃ ಸಂಃ - thus say good men ಾಜನಯ ನೀ - Oh daughter of the royal mountain! (Sakti) ಉೇಾ ಉೇಾ ಾಂ ಾಂ - born of the opening of your eye lids ಜಗ ಇದಂ ಜಗ ಇದಂ - this world ಅೇೀಷಂ - entire ರಲಃ - from annihilation ಾರುಂ - to protect ಂಕೀೇ - I think ೃ - abandoned ೀಾಃ - closing the eye lids ವ ದೃಃ - your eye Oh daughter of the royal mountain! good men say thus: "the world proceeds to annihilation (and) creation on the closing and opening of your eye lids". I suspect that your eye has abandoned closing the eye lids to protect this entire world born of the opening of your eye lids, from annihilation.
ಾೇೀ ೇೀ ಜನನ ಪೇೈುನಯ ಾ ೀಂೇೀ ೇೂೀೀ ೀಾಃ ಫಕಾಃ , ಇಂ ಶರೀಬದ ದ ಾಂ ುವಲಂ ಜಾ ರೂಯೇೀ ಶ ಘಯ ರ . ೫೬ . ವ - your ಅೇೀ - Oh Aparna! (Sakti) ೇೀ - in the ear ಜ ನನ - whispering eyes ಪೇೈುನಯ ಾಃ -afraid of slander ೀಂೇೀ - they hide ೇೂೀೀ - in the water ಂ - it is certain ಅೀಾಃ - with unblinking (eyes) ಫಕಾಃ - glittering female fish beau ty ಇಂ ಶರೀಃ - and this, the goddess of beauty ಬದ ದಃ - closed petal ಾಂ - fastened like a door ುವಲಂ - blue water lily ಜಾ - abandons ರೂಯೇೀ - at dawn ಶ - and at night ಘಯ - having opened ರ - enters Oh Aparna! it is certain that the glittering female fish hide in the water with unblinking (eyes) afraid of slander by your eyes whispering in (your) ear. ear. And this, the goddess of beauty abandons the blue water lily with closed
petal(s) fastened like a door at dawn, and enters having opened (it) at night (so as to reside in Sakti's eyes during the day and in the lily at night).
ದೃಾ ಾರೀಾಯ ದದ ೀೇೂೀಲ ುಚಾ ದೀಾಂಸಂ ೀನಂ ಸ ೃಾ ಾ ಶೇೀ , ಅೇೀಾಂ ೇೂಯೀ ಭವ ನ ೇೀ ಾಾ ವೇೀ ಾ ಯೀ ಾ ಸ ಪಾೇೂೀ ಹಃ . ೫೭ . ದೃಾ - by (your) look ಾರೀಾಯ - which is farsighted ದ ದ - slightly blossomed ೀೇೂೀಲ ುಚಾ - with the beauty of the blue lotus ದೀಾಂಸಂ - the far removed one ೀನಂ - the poor one ಸ - you bathe (me) ೃಾ - compassion ಾಂ ಅ - me also ಶೇೀ - Oh Sivaa! (Sakti) ಅೇೀನ ಅಂ - by this, this one (the devotee) ನಯಃ ಭವ - becomes blessed ನ - and no ೇೀ - to you ಾಃ ಇಾ - loss by this ವೇೀ ಾ ಯೀ ಾ - on the forest as well as the palace ಸ ಪಾಃ - falls equally ಹಃ - the moon Oh Sivaa! bathe me also the far removed, poor one with compassion by (your) look which is far sighted and is with the beauty of a slightly blossomed blue lotus. By this (look), this one (the devotee) becomes blessed, and there is no loss by this to you. The moon falls (shines) equally on the forest as well as the palace.

Wherein the attention of the corner of the eye, having passed through the reach of the ear, ear, glittering, produces the understanding of (being) an arrow fixed (to the bow string).

Having mounted which, the great warrior Cupid, seeks to assail Siva armed with the earth as a chariot with the sun and moon for wheels.

I speak of that which is similar to the beauty of your lips, which is naturally red. Let the coral creeper bear fruit! The Bimba fruit out of desire to reflect that image (the red lips) is red. (Hence) how will it not be bashful to ascend the balance (for being weighed against the red lips) by even a little bit? Note: The Bimba fruit compared to red lips by poets is inadequate in this case. Hence an imaginary fruit, namely the coral fruit is suggested as a possible standard of comparison.

Seated on the tip of which the crystal stone (like) clearly brilliant form of Saraswati is transformed into a ruby (li ke) appearence.

Oh banner of the lord of mountains! These your breasts are the ruby containers of the essence of ambrosia. There is not a quiver of doubt in our minds (in this matter). Those two who drink from it, (namely), Ganesa and Kartikeya are young boys even today, today, unknowing of the pleasure of union with the spouse.

Having tasted your (milk) which was given by (you) possessed of compassion, the Dravidian child became a charming composer amongst a mongst mighty poets. (Oh effulgent one, Sakti) i n the upper belly ರವ - the three folds of skin in ಲವೀ ವಃ ಃ ಇವ - as if by the lavali (a yellow) creeper (with white flowers) Oh Devi! (Thinking that) it is enough to protect you from breaking (from the burden of your) breasts which on perspiring immediately split the bodice in contact with the sloping sides, which rub at the underarms, (and) which have the lustre of golden pots, (your) waist was tied thrice, as if by the lavali creeper of the three folds of skin in (your) upper belly by Cupid who made it.

(daughter of the mountain) (Sakti) ಾ - from his own ಂಾ - flanks (of the mountain) ಆದಯ ದಯ - having cut - to you ೂಪೀೇ - in the form of a (wedding) gift ದಧೀೇ - presented ಅಃ ೇೀ - therefore your ತೀಃ ೀಃ - vast ಗುುಃ – heavy ಅಂ - this ಅೇೀಾಂ - the entire ವಸುೀಂ - the earth ಂಬ - the hips and loins ಪಾರಾಃ - mass behind ಸಗ – conceals ಲಘಂ ನ - and reduces to lightness Oh Parvati! the lord of the mountains presented to you in the form of a (wedding) gift, heaviness and vastness having cut (them) from his own flanks. Therefore this your vast, heavy mass of the hips and loins behind conceals the entire earth and reduces (it) to lightness (in ( in comparison).

(Sakti) ಶ - on the head ದಾ ಧೀೇಹ - place with compassion ೌ - the two feet ೂೀಃ ಪಾದಯಂ - the water used for washing which (the feet) ಪಾಥಃ – water ು - Pasupati (Siva who bows at Sakti's feet) ಜಾ ಜೂ ಟೀ - the river (Ganga) in the mass of the matted hair ೂೀಃ - of which th e feet) ಾಾ ಲಃ - the lustre of the lac (red) dye (used as a cosmetic on the ಅು - red ೂಡಾ - the gem on the diadem of Hari (who bows at Devi's feet) ುಃ - colour Oh Mother! these two feet which are borne by the Upanishads as a diadem, place (them) with compassion on my head too. The water used for washing which (the feet) is the Ganga in the mass of the matted hair of Pasupati, (and) the lustre of the lac dye of which, is the red colour of the gem on the diadem of Hari.

ಸು ು - brightly lustrous ಾಲತವೇೀ ವೇೀ - which has liquid lac dye ಅಸೂ ಅಯಂಂ - envies greatly ಅನಾ ಅನಾ - to be struck by which ಸೇೀ - desires ಾಂ ಈನಃ - the lord of the souls (Siva) ರದ ವನ - the pleasure garden ಂಕೀೇ ೇೀ - the Asoka tree (which by poetic convention flowers if struck by the feet of noble women) We tell the word `obeissance' to this your pair of feet, to that (pair) which is delightful to the eye, which is brightly lustrous (and) ( and) which has liquid lac l ac dye, by which (feet) Siva desires to be struck, (and hence) envies greatly the Asoka tree of the pleasure garden.

ಅಂಃ ಲಯಂ - the thorn (of hostility) within ದನ ೃಂ - was burnt ಉನೂವಾ - by one who has had (the thorn) plucked pl ucked out ುಾ ಕೂೀೇಟ ಕಾೇೈಃ - by the jingling of the anklet ಂ - a sound of joy is made ಈಾನ ಾ - by the enemy of Isana (Siva), (by Cupid) Your two lotus feet hit on the forehead of the husband, bowing in shame after having falsely (teasingly) comitted the blunder of calling (you) by a wrong name. A sound of joy is made (then) by the jingling of (your) anklet, by Cupid, who was burnt, and who has had the thorn (of hostility) from within plucked out after a long time.

Oh Mother! your two feet which are beautiful even when residing in the snowy mountain, which are manifest (open) at night as well as in the last l ast part of (the night), (and) which bestows wealth (on) the followers of the Samaya school, triumph over the lotus, which is destroyed by a mass of snow, which sleeps at night (and) which wishes to be the (passive) abode of Lakshmi. What is the wonder here?

ಶರಂ ಅಂ - riches incessantly ಅಾ ದದೌ - which (the feet) give instantly Oh Candi! your feet with the moon like nails (which cause) c ause) the closing of the lotus like hands of the celestial maidens, which instantly give to the poor auspicious riches incessantly are as if laughing at the celestial trees which give fruits (only) to (other) celestials by the tender shoots of the tips of the(ir) hands.

Oh one pocessed of a beautiful life! the resident swans with a mind to commence the practice of the sport of placement of the steps, (though) they trip, do not abandon play play.. Therefore for their instruction, the auspicious gem (studded) anklet of the lotus feet, under the pretext of jingling, perhaps teach (them).
ಗಾೇತೀ ಂಂ ದುರಹುೇರೀಭೃಃ ಶವಃ ಸಚಾ ಚಾಾ ಾ ಘಟ ರದಃ ದಃ , ೀಾಾಂ ಾಾಂ ರಫಲನಾಾುಾ ೀೀ ೃಂಾೇೂೀ ಸ ಇವ ದೃಾಂ ೇೂೀ ುುಮ . ೯೨ . ಗಾಃ - have become ೇೀ ಂಂ -your bed ದುರಹ - Druhina (Brahma) - Hari (Vishnu) ುದರ - Rudra ಈ - Iswara (Maheswara) ಭೃಃ - servitors (with authority to create, preserve and destroy) ಶವಃ - Siva (Sadaasiva tattva, the subtlest of the twenty five categories representing Siva and Sakti in the evolved state) ಸಚಾ ಚಾಾ ಾ - white lustre

The servitors, Druhina, Hari, Rudra (and) Iswara have become your bed. Paramasiva, disguised as the coverlet made of (his) white lustre, by the reflected red colour of your lustre, seems like the sentiment of love embodied (and) yeilds joy for your eyes.
