I’d like to start by saying ‘Happy New Year’ to you and add that I hope you had a Merry Christmas. I have some great info to share with you in this issue, with Simons Apocolypse game, photos from our own tournament, PentaCon and some very cool reviews on tabletop and board games. 2014 will see GGG trying and revisiting a variety of games. Whilst Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and 40K roleplay will continue, Necromunda is set for 12 rounds per player, with the Spirelord announced later in the year. Bolt Action will be on the menu as a new entry. I’d like to see fantasy make more of show this year in the form of Warhammer, Mordheim, Warhammer skirmish and Man O War. Boardgames will include the Axis & Allies Pacific & Europe editions, BattleCry will be back, and Dreadfleet to name a few. A love of all types of miniature war gaming is something I believe that ties all of the GGG members together, and from there

lasting friendships have ben forged. I was lucky enough to count many gamers I had the opportunity to meet and game with in 2013 amongst my friends. I am looking forward to that same privilege in 2014. Because we are not a club with a set location, our Garage Gamers Group can be anywhere. For example our most distant GGG member Alessio Cavatore, and creator of LOKA, SHUURO and TAROT of LOKA, lives in Nottingham. Wouldn’t it be great to have a group of gaming friends all around the world and be able to visit and have a game? That’s what one of our aims is for GGG...

time, GGG may well host a couple of similar events in 2014. Nate of BattleStation Ipswich was instrumental in the success of PentaCon and I can’t thank him enough by allowing the use of his venue AND supplying many of the great random prizes. For those who missed it, on top of having a great time on the day, every member who played in PentaCon, walked away with a prize. And so, as the minutes of the clock tick towards the midnight end of another year, I will leave you with a quote… “May the Best of your past, be the Worst, of your future”.

Speaking of members our group keeps growing. Any GGG member can post items for inclusion in Snake Eyes, and as long as it doesn’t breach any ethical issues, I will happily add it to the newsletter, so feel free to send pictures or rules or gaming advice to the gmail address.

Happy 2014.

Because PentaCon was such a success given its small amount of creativity

See You There...

PentaCon 2013...How it went down The challenge was there...five games to play, one hour on each, for a win, loss or draw. The five games selected for the one day tournament were Warhammer 40k, Necromunda, Flames of War, Star Wars X-Wing and Old West. Designed for ten gamers, only eight managed to show on the day. It meant that some gamers would face each other twice, but no other problems were foreseeable. I had to consider that some of the gamers had never played some of the games and had to match them with gamers that had. This could not always be the case and so we had to see how it would go. Game points were allocated as 10 for a Win, 7.5 for a Draw and 5 points for a Loss

Round two paired: Steven Vs Tim - X-Wing - Winner Steven Cameron Vs Sam-40k - Winner Sam Courtney Vs Simon - Western Winner Sean Vs Zach - Necromunda - Winner Sean After the second round we broke for a meal. Scores had Tim at 10 points, Cameron at 12.5, Steven, Sam, Courtney and Zach at 15, Simon at 17.5 and Sean in the lead at 20 points.

GGG members Glen Taylor, John Ross and Sean O’Hanlon, who for various reasons could not play on the day, turned up to wish everybody well and catch up with old friends. The gamers, Sam Corvi, Steven Azzopardi, Tim Prenzler, Courtney Halvorsen, Simon Machin, Cameron McCormack, Sean Federoff and Zach Seib, were ready for the day of gameplay.

Who’s a little sugar pot then??

Round three had: Zach Vs Simon - 40k - Winner Zach Cameron Vs Sean - X-Wing - Winner Cameron

The first round was as follows.

Sam Vs Tim - Flames of War - Winner Sam

Steven Vs Sean-Western-Winner Sean

Courtney Vs Steven - Necromunda - Winner Steven

Tim Vs Courtney - 40k - Winner Courtney

Points were now Steven, Sam, Sean and Zach equally in the lead with 25 apiece, Tim with 15, Courtney with 20, Simon and Cameron with 22.5.

Simon Vs Cameron - Necromunda - Draw Zach Vs Sam - X-Wing - Winner Zach The first round scores had Steven, Tim and Sam with 5 points each, Cameron and Simon with 7.5 points and Sean, Zach and Courtney on 10 points.

Warlord Miniatures - Bolt Action Guess what I got for Christmas? A nice big box of Assault on Normandy. It’s a starter set from Warlord Games. Comes with Bolt Action American and German miniatures, a core rulebook, 8 orders dice, and

some terrain of a ruined hamlet. I have wanted GGG to expand into WW2 gaming and Bolt Action looks very cool. Their system uses 28mm figures, that are a great size for painting and gaming. I won’t go too much into the rules as I am not overly familiar yet, but there will be an exploratory mission of the box set later in this issue. The set box cost $110 plus P&P and is available in Australia. Warlord

has many additional items for Bolt Action, including armies for Germans, Americans, British, Russian and Japanese, with supplemental material for French and Italian forces. I’m looking forward to a battle report in the near future.

Hints & Tips Terrain...unless you like that green sheet over books and coke cans look on your table, then one day you will want to invest in some terrain. This can be the pre manufactured terrain or stuff you have made yourself. This all depends on aesthetic taste and budget. You can now buy beautiful terrain for your tables. Most game producers have a selection of terrain for the systems that they sell. Local games stores will usually have stock or can be ordered by them. Some boxed sets even come with a little terrain, and are a great starting

“When the

point. As much as I love the plastic and laser cut MDF terrain, I still enjoy breaking out the foam core, polystyrene and thick cardboard. It’s cheaper and it allows you to make whatever your skills and imagination allow. Essential tools are hobby knives and a hot wire foam cutter (You can even make these-Ed) Hills made with Styrofoam can be quickly cut to size, and stacked and glued to create your required height. Make sure you leave the edge on each level for your miniatures. You will have to hand paint these however

as Styrofoam doesn't like spray paint unless you give your hill a glaze of watered down wood glue like aquadhere. If sealed and dried it will take the spraypaint. Airspray with water based acrylics can coat your hill without it needing to be sealed. Buildings can be easily made with foam core bought in a metre square sheet from art suppliers from around $10. You will get a few buildings out of that amount. Trees are harder to make and I suggest a guide if you haven't done them before. Otherwise Ebay model railway trees.

are alternatives”

From the Collector’s Vault As a collector I find it hard when I buy something that is part of a greater collection...that is, I must have them all. I am envious of people who can afford to buy two of everything, who then store one and use the other. My budget has been limited by the income at the time and the willingness of said partner who let me spend it. My limit therefore varied. When it

came to buying paints I had to watch that collector bug as I started buying paints to paint up a model that I had bought. Colour suggestions on the box, create an impulse to buy that colour or colours to make it part of your collection. Unfortunately, I didn’t put that model together straight away, and some not for several years. Left in their original box the

SNAKE

model lasts forever. Paint however does not, and I found out the hard way. Although there are mediums on the market now that are good for refreshing some dried paints in their pots, it won’t help those that have been tossed away as a lost cause. Suggestion? Only buy what you need to paint the models at hand. This will save you those extra dollars for those extra minis.

The Collector is a gamer with 24 years in collectable games and wargaming...

Apocolypse at Simons Shanty Sam, Peter and Nick won the roll for first turn. Imperial guard, Ultramarines and Blood Angels confronted the ten thousand points of an Ork and Necron alliance. After setup, the enemy failed in their bid to steal initiative, but Simon pulled his sneaky Necron manoeuvre forcing the forces if good to fight their first turn in night fighting. This would impact on their turn as well. With their 3+ cover save only a few Orks and Necrons went down. The bane blade fired, disintegrating a small hill and the scarabs and Orks that were clambering on it. Courtney, Zach and Simon playing Ork, Ork and Necrons started their turn one. Faced with night fight as well, they had to formalise a battle plan that allowed them to return sufficient fire. Courtney tried to curry favour by offering Nick a tea. The Ork seethed forward like a quick flowing lava of green, opting to run forward instead of shooting. Wanting to bring the fight to the attackers. Defenders the Ork/Necron alliance may have been, but it appeared they didn't relish that role. The Imperial alliance watched as the Ork Skull Hammer Battle Fortress grumbled forward towards the buildings housing Blood Angel scouts and imperial guard veterans. The battle fortress could roll right through the ruins and destroy them and the imperials. The Stompa fired its super gattler at the leading Razorback, stunning the crew. It then fired its death ray at the Shadowsword and the shot penetrated the front armour and managed to immobilise it. Zach cried when Nick farted, claiming it burnt his eyes. Courtney's Deffcopters buzzed through

the ruins unleashing their big shooters (48 twin linked weapons) at the Blood Angel scouts and annihilated the squad with their over shooting. The battle fortress fired, destroying utterly the building the scouts had been in. Two veteran imperial guard survived, and miraculously held their ground. Turn two started with muffins. Savoury muffins to be precise. The imperial forces demanded vengeance, and they got it. Using their strategic asset of coordinated assault, Blood angels deep strikes behind enemy lines, accounted for destroying one squad of looters, and reducing the other to one Ork, and taking a wound off the enemy warlord. The Stormraven fired all four blood strike missiles into the looted Ork basilisk, but only managed two hull points. The Imperial Guard Valkyries caused two squads of Orks to flee from the firepower. Between the Stormshadow and 2 orbital strikes, the Ork Stompa and one of Zachs Ork warlords trucks including the Ork warlord, were devastated completely. The Ultramarines deep strike put them in between the Orks and the Necrons, killing some of both. The Imperial guard took hull points off the super heavy battle fortress and caused a shaken and stunned result on the crew, stopping Courtney's plans of disembarking next turn. Concentrated tank fire chewed through Ork bikers and buggies like a bulldog eating custard. Final firing from the Storm Lord killed Courtney's bikers. What would the Orks and Necrons do to recover in their turn 2? The enemy turn two saw flyers abound entering the battle from the Ork/ Necron side. Two Annihilation Barges, two Ghost Arks, a Nightsythe and Doomsythe, and four Ork flyers

SNAKE

screamed in from the enemy reserve edge. Sam opened up immediately with anti air flak, however Zach saved, the flyer jinking out of the path of the fire. Simon then played his evil bastard move, deep striking Necrons into the imperial deployment zone and dropping troops from his dark shroud to fight the blood angels on the hill. Necron wraiths moved up to charge the Blood Angels as well. The Annihilation Barge started a round of firing, targeting the rhinos nearby. The barge hit, taking the last hull point off one of the rhinos. One ultramarine died with the vehicle. Zachs Orks turned against the Ultramarines, shooting at them. The Ultramarines stoically stood firm against the Ork fire, rightly reckoning on their lack of skill with the shootas. The Necrons had a shot at the Ultramarines as well, and in the end sent nine marines to the Emperor. Courtney's looted Ork wagon fired at Sam’s Imperial Guard, missing them and firing into their own fortress, immobilising it and killing four Orks that were milling around the vehicle. Simon shot into Nicks terminators, wounding four but they made their saves. Zach's Ork fighter shot into one of the Valkyries, taking two hull points. His Ork Bommerz flew in to target the Shadowsword. The bomb inflicted minimal damage, taking a hull point off the behemoth. Simon killed a razorback from his flyer, and sent his warriors charging into the Blood Angels on the hill. His other warriors smashed into the back of the Ultramarines. The marines lost the combat but stayed firm. One Necron went down only to reanimate after. Zach and Courtney sent their Killakans in to attack nicks blood angels land raider, tearing it apart in an orgy of Ork violence. The terminators inside exited the vehicle unscathed, ready to deal with the enemy.

Apocolypse at Simons Shanty Avoiding the Necrons, Nicks Blood Angels went after any Orks available on the field. Having been able to deep strike with perfect precision due to the strategy cards, put the Blood Angels in a position to take an objective from the Orks, and with the other objectives contested or controlled, the end result was a decided draw. This article was recorded by a bias Blood Angel, and other views may have been slightly different, depending on the player. As my first game of Apocolypse I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dark Heresy

is a role playing game set in the grim darkness of the 41st millenni-

um , the decaying dark future of Warhammer 40,000. Below is the background story of Bekki Imam, GGG member Simon Machins’ character in Dark Heresy. Sister Krankies diaries Part1 My name is Bekki Imam, I am an acolyte of the handmaidens of the emperor, an Adepta Sororitas.

I am an orphan, my parents were murdered when I was 6yrs old. My father was a security advisor assigned to an inquisitional safe house and my mother was a kind and loving women. Both my parents were very devout members of the Emperor, we prayed together as a family morning and night.

The memories of my parents were of loving mother and father who never laid a hand on me. My parents was very loyal to the Emperor and the Inquisitor whom they served. My last memories of them were my father were of him hurrying me and my mother through the main house. He made us enter the forbidden room, the Inquisitors room. Mother was urging me to be quiet and asked me to remember the game used to play, the silent game, where we don't make a noise no matter what. I play that game well. I heard my father say he loved me and that the Emperor would protect me. I always believed what father said because he was always right. Mother kissed me and made the Sign on my forehead. I remember hugging her and then daddy. He hid me in the closet and locked the door. I saw a box in the closet and crawled in there. After a few minutes I heard some voices and my father telling my mother that he loved her. Mother told my father she loved him as well, and then a loud crashing noise happened. I remember a lot of gun shot noises and then silence. I remember hearing my father yelling and crying at the same time. He yelled "Kalien you bastard I’ll make you pay in this life or the next" and then I heard a strangled gasp and pop and then silence. That name I will never forget. I remember being so scared. I wanted to call out. I wanted my mother and father. I was so worried and scared. I waited and waited for so long. I cant remember how long it was until I heard Uncle Gelly's voice. Uncle Gelly was always able to find me when I played hide and seek. He found me in the box in the closet. He was so kind to me, he took in his arms and carried me out of the room to his car. I saw two plastic covered bodies as I was carried out, and I knew in my heart who they were. My father and mother gave their lives to protect me from the evil one. He wrapped me in a blanket and touched my forehead with his a kiss and I knew no more until i woke up in a room much later.

I stayed with Uncle Gelly for a while. He was very kind and important. He had so many people working for him. I stayed for a few months. The day came, when a kindly lady met me in my room. Uncle Gelly told me she would be my new mother. He said she would train me to be a servant of the emperor and teach me all I could learn. I asked the lady her name, she told me she was Mother Canoness Superior Araceli Cortés of the Order of the Golden Light. A minor order she explained but one that was proud to serve the emperor no matter what. I asked Uncle Gelly if he was coming as well. He smiled and said “No my child but i will visit from time to time”. I asked the Canoness what she would teach me, and she explained she would teach me about the Emperor and the Imperium. I thought about this for a while and then I asked the Canoness, "Will you teach me to defend my self and punish the wicked"? She asked "What do you me my child?". I replied "Uncle Gelly told me my parents died protecting me from enemies of the emperor, will you teach me to defend my self as I never want another child to go through what i did". The Canoness looked toward Uncle Gelly and then replied "Of course my child".

Not long after that I left on a ship to the world Pasiphae, a beautiful fertile green world with several deep blue oceans. The convent was located at one of poles. The Order of the Golden Light. It was responsible for protecting a relic of dark age of technology, a astronomicon relay beacon, maintained by the adeptus mechanicum. The order was set as outpost away from all civilians to protect and maintain the secrecy of the relic.

My time in the order went quickly, i excelled at all my classes and quickly became the best and most promising adepta sororitas they had seen in years. The Canoness Superior was true to her words and treated me fairly. She was a tough fair mistress who scolded often but gave praise where it was due. I never stopped thinking of my parents. I always kept the Emperor in my thoughts as well and I secretly prayed I would find the mysterious Kalien one day and make him pay for his crimes.

Uncle Gelly visited me from time to time, as he promised, and he always remembered my birthday by sending a card. The school progenium class mates used to call me Sister Kranky. I never cared for the title, but the title stuck. I never had many friends, but I cared little as the Emperor was with me always. When i was much older I found out what the "I" symbol was that my parents and Uncle Gelly wore around their necks. I realized that the enemy was more powerful then I first perceived, and so I tripled my efforts to learn and excel. I enjoyed the martial disciplines of the order the most.

The night I took my vows of silence I was visited by Uncle Gelly. He came with a full squad of inquisitional guards and did me singular honour by being present at my most holy of vows. That night I became a bride of the Emperor and I became one with Emperor. My Uncle Gelly presented me with an Inquisitional seal. I remember this even now, the pride i saw in his eyes when he looked at me. Soon after, the Senior Canoness informed me that I would be leaving the convent and joining the inquisitional forces of Inquisitor Lord Gelt, my Uncle.

Members Spotlight - Zach Seib I started gaming when I got hold of Heroquest, in around 1990/91 and soon after Space Crusade (those games are awesome!) I started playing GW games when I became involved with the original Epic 40000 (the one with the box showing Ultramarines fighting Chaos with a huge Warlord Titan in the background). My brothers and I played all three games to death. Then it all changed again when I got my paws on Advanced Space Crusade...it blew my poor little mind… Warhammer 40k is now one of my favourites. I collect Tyanids and also have a small but growing force of Space Marines. I also have a big Warhammer Fantasy army of Vampire Counts...oh and Necromunda kicks a@#e. I am now running Warhammer 40k roleplay at Sam’s place. We play once a month on a Sunday. I

enjoy the Gamesmaster role of the game and have the players on their toes, as much as they keep me on mine actually. When you are GM for a seasoned group of role players you have to be prepared for anything so I return the favour when I can.
