Hi Everyone, I hope you’ve had a good month. The Swap-meet on Saturday March 22nd went very well. I can’t say that I sold a lot myself, but did come home with most of the money still in my wallet and twice as much as what I took to sell, but hey, it was fun. There were quite a few vendors as compared to the last one, and many more punters as well. Everyone that I spoke to there seemed to have gotten their moneys worth and had a good time. It is a shame that we are losing Battlestation Ipswich, as it was a good venue for our mini cons and of course the swap-meets. Worse still we lose Nate to a produce store, that he will be taking over in Highfields near Toowoomba. I didn’t know Nate for that long, but found him very friendly and knowledgeable. I have been informed from member John McDonnell, that swap-meets are happening on a regular basis at The Blind Pig gaming club at Holland Park.

GGG now just has to look for a venue for our next PentaCon in mid year. Anyone after more info on the Blind Pig Swap-meets or GGG’s PentaCon please don’t hesitate to ask, and anyone with information on suitable venue use for our mini cons please let us know. As our member base grows, we are of course expanding our hobby expertise. In a future issue I will be asking members to supply information about good gaming clubs and places, and also asking them to share what games they play. This is to allow us to share that information to readers that may be interested in a game of whatever you would like to promote. Any member interested in sharing, please let me know before next issue. I will only be advertising limited information and readers can only make contact with those members through Snake Eyes. The GGG Mordheim campaign starts this month. The campaign will kick off on Friday 25, and play in a similar vein to Necromunda (ie - Ladder). Speaking

of Mordheim, check out the table in this issue and next that Matt Garside built in the UK. Very inspiring and he will tell us all about how he made it. Necromunda is still ongoing so don’t forget to squeeze in a game, if you can. This can be done at your place as well so if you have the gear at home get into it. This issue also sees the first installment of GGG members collections, a series highlighting what our members have at home.

Zombicide Zombicide is a collaborative game in which players take the role of a survivor – each with unique abilities – and harness both their skills and the power of teamwork against the hordes of unthinking undead! Zombies are predictable, stupid but deadly, controlled by simple rules and a deck of cards. Unfortunately for you, there are a LOT more zombies than you have bullets.

A GGG discussion supported any miniature based game could be promoted by the group. To date the following lists the games to be played and currently playing in GGG.

In the Digital Age: PC vs Tabletop I would venture to guess that 98% of Wargamers also play digital games, either on the computer or gaming consol. What’s very cool is when you have an amalgamation of both, such as the Mordheim game mentioned elsewhere in this issue, or Talisman, Warhammer Quest and now, Space Hulk available for the tablets. The problem is that one, usually takes time away from the other. I saw many gamers fall into W.O.W. with no time for any

of their other gaming pursuits. I love a good MMO and with Elder Scrolls Online coming out this month, I know that my miniature wargaming will suffer. With this in mind as I love to do both, I find it is easiest, (as there is no easy solution if you do both), to set up a schedule. So allocate your work or study time as per normal. Then alternate your normal gaming activities with the other. I say this because it is easy to lose yourself in the digital

gaming experience and completely lose touch with your miniature gaming, coming back to find the rules have changed so much and rather than celebrate new changes with a battle on the tabletop, you decide it’s too hard and sell off your miniature collection. Share your time with work/study, family and friends, plan your tabletop games, and save that special digital game time just for you.

“There are many gaming systems out

Hints & Tips - Terrain Tables

there...all you have to do is find one that

Nothing beats a nice looking gaming table, that is full of terrain. You see it and you just want to have a game on it. Examples would be the Mordheim table in this issue, the Perry’s table a couple of issues ago, but you get my meaning I’m sure. A well set up table provides the inspiration to play, before you even decide what army you’re going to field. I used to dream of having multiple tables with different themes, such as a desert table and a snow table, a grass one and an ash wastes one, and on top of that to have all of the appropriate

terrain pieces to go with each table. To make this dream a reality meant also owning a warehouse type structure to have the space for it all. Dreams aside, you can make it possible with downsizing. I have already found that on a 1200mm x 1200mm table and using 4, 600mm x 600mm square 6mm sheets of MDF you can mount buildings etc onto the smaller boards and have 64 + variations on your table. Great for Necromunda/Mordheim style games. If you weren’t going to glue permanent terrain to the 600 x

600 pieces, the solution is to paint each side of the loose boards plus your main table base, giving you 3 different gaming tables on the one area. So in a single garage, housing your 6 foot table and 4 foot table, you can have multitudes of tables and it’s only again defined by how many board pieces (600 x 600) that you can store. Paint your main tables one colour, say green, then on one side of the smaller boards could be snow and the other side a city fight grey, just flip them depending on your wishes. More small boards equals more tables. Good luck.

suits you”

From the Collector’s Vault I’m a collector. I collect everything that I take an interest in. I used to collect model railway before I discovered miniature wargaming. Before that I collected toy soldiers and model planes, and even before that I collected Cowboys and Indians. I also collected the magazines along the way. The Airfix model magazine and whatever model railway

issue I could get my mitts on. My first White Dwarf fell into my hands in 1990/91. Issue 129. There was an article about Dark Future from memory in it, about a game of futuristic car wars. I was hooked. I was on the hunt, and found that only one store in Brisbane, stocked White Dwarf. The new issues were $6.50 but back issues were $5. I bought all that I SNAKE

could afford, (not a lot). I still have that original magazine in my collection today. I collected all of them up until they changed the magazine, and the new White Dwarf weekly was too hard to keep up with as the supply to my local gaming store was erratic at best. Non gamers would think I am a hoarder. Gamers however, understand. C U next Issue. EYES

RIVERHORSE GAMES Founder and Games Designer Alessio Cavatore and GGG member, tells us more about his game site creations...

Shuuro is the core of a new system of abstract war gaming, where you are in command of armies of chess pieces. Differently from traditional chess, you are not forced to field a given set of pieces on the board, but can choose which pieces to field, based on your skill and tactical preferences. The innovative gaming board features terrain elements that change position every time you play, so that each game introduces a different challenge. Shuuro is a game for two players, which merges the precision and rigour of chess with the creativity and variety of war-gaming. It does so by attaching a points value to each traditional chess piece and allowing the players to spend a predetermined amount of these points (say, a total of 800 points) to select the chess ‘army’ that they think makes the best use of the points. This creates a feeling of ‘ownership’ towards the particular combination the player thinks is the most effective. The ‘battle’ will then take place on a large chess board of twelve by twelve squares. This board, however, also introduces a new and unique element to the game. Each of the four six-by-six quadrants of the board contains two plinths that block the movement of the pieces. These plinths are placed randomly at the beginning of every game with the help of a dice, ensuring that every game will be different and present unique challenges. The plinths also help in balancing the game, restricting the movement of Queens, Bishops and Rooks, while at the same time allowing Knights to land onto them and using them as defensive positions (as only an enemy Knight can take them while they’re there). It is worth noting that game box also includes a normal chessboard and full rules for traditional chess, making it good to learn chess and allowing players to engage in this great classic as well as the innovative Shuuro.

LOKA is a fantastically sculpted Chess sets and a brand new take on playing Chess, brought to you by River Horse. LOKA is played with fantasy-inspired Chess pieces, each evoking the powerful imagery of one of the four elements. At its heart, LOKA uses the rules of Chess, and Alessio has some significant twists in mind in the form of new mechanics: Choose your army - Each player get to choose which pieces they put onto the board, meaning both players command different armies on the battlefield – do you field a small but elite force with three Queens, or do you go for a mass horde of Pawns? Fantasy Scenery – Change the shape of the battlefield with movement blocking terrain that alters the path you’ll take into combat. Dice Driven Combat – a simple and elegant system using eight sided dice adds some unpredictability to combat, placing extra emphasis on strategy and positioning as pieces build in power with support from their comrades."

Dark Heresy

is a role playing game set in the grim darkness of the 41st

millennium , the decaying dark future of Warhammer 40,000. Below is the continuing background story of Bekki Imam, GGG member Simon Machins’ character in Dark Heresy, continued from last 3 issues. Sister Krankies diaries Part 4 My name is Bekki Imam, I am an Acolyte of the Handmaidens of the Emperor, an Adepta Sororitas. We encountered dead guardsmen in the next section of the ship. The guardsmen were ripped apart, blood and offal coated the walls and only pieces were recognisable. After a thorough search of the area we found only one guardsman alive. He came down the corridor of his own accord. He was wounded. He struggled to reach us, limping, dragging his mangled leg. Brawn rushed to help him, putting his arm around him and supporting the wounded guardsman. As Brawn supports him he notices something odd with guardsman and forcibly pushes him away from himself. “Witchy shit in him” was all that Brawn offered. The guardsman features suddenly change, his eyes glow red and his features distend un-proportionally. We are all greeted by a daemon, who cackles and laughs at our discomfort. We all are shocked. The tech priests screams and runs away. The Duskworld guardsmen Brawn and Carno, growl and attack. Grim traumas aura, doesn't seem to affect the daemon. ‘That’s a bad sign’, I think to myself. I run to help the Duskworlders but I am still too far away. I cant shoot because my team members are in the way.

The daemon starts playing with us. Those of the team who can shoot do so, and all the shots go astray. This daemon is strong. Even the eagle eye shots of the commander count for nothing. I fervently start praying to the Emperor for strength and guidance. I pray for my team members and hope he is listening.

I manoeuver around the daemon to assault him from the flank. I see Brawn is picked up like a rag doll and thrown against the wall. The daemon is laughing and is now floating in the air. It breaths fire on Brawn. I scream at it. I can’t remember what I say but I know that I am scared. I worry not for my self but for my squad mates. I then remembered that I wear the Emperors faith as my armour, and have the Emperors will as my strength. Brawn arose and brushed the flames off himself, as though he’d only spilt his lunch on his tunic. He does it with such nonchalance as though it was a no issue to him at all. I know then that the Emperor is watching us, He is with me and my team mates. I charge the daemon and smash it with my flail that I had blessed using my last devotional candle. It ripped through daemon like it was jelly. The daemon screamed in agony and disintegrated into chucks of flesh and blood and other non mentionable bits that sloshed on the floor. The chucks of flesh and blood coagulated and flowed down the drain at the end of the corridor, absorbing the remains of the eviscerated guardsman and as it sluggishly entered the drain. We couldn’t prevent it from escaping, nor were we going to even try. We were lucky to survive at all.

The squad gathered up and I asked them to pray with me. Brawn and Carno once again joined me, and I blessed them once more with the Aquila symbol on their faces. We continued down the metal hallways of the ship until we came to a dark corridor. We encountered another dark presence.

SNAKE

EYES

The dark corridor seems to beckon to us. We followed it for a while and without any warning we encountered another daemon. It was also a very powerful entity. It chose Brawn, and it seemed to use his weakness against him. It egged him on, seeming to play on his martial pride. I am able to persuade him to resist the daemons charms. The daemon ignores us all except for Brawn. Why, I do not know. But I did notice a peculiarity about the daemon, one that was totally outside what I had learned about the chaos powers. It did not attack us even though it should of. It seemed to be bound to the darkened corridor. It did not, or could not leave the dark corridor. The squad were strangely unaffected by the daemons presence, and its evil maligned substance seemed to be contained to the corridor. After some discussion and the fact that we had a choice, we decided to leave it as we had a mission to perform, even though some wanted to try and destroy it. I prayed to the Emperor for guidance and received indication that we should continue with our mission. We eventually found the elevator up to the next level. We entered the section where we believed the ensign we were searching for should have been. We were right, encountering him quickly. He was alone except for one remaining guardsman. His name was Kharn. A pompous officer of the fleet who quickly tried to assert control over us. We noticed he had accidentally left his Inquisitorial rosette, showing. I went up him and to ascertain his demeanour in case he was not whom he said he was. Since our recent exposure to daemonic entities we were not taking any chances. My squad mates were trying to negotiate with him to ensure he was the ensign we were sent to rescue. He was not used to anyone of other ranks, questioning him and so remained non responsive. I tried to type in my data slate to express my concerns and feelings about the ensign to my team members, when the ensign tried to grab it. I quickly pulled the data slate away from him and then slapped him. He response was to strike me and demanded that I give him my data slate. Brawn was not impressed and yelled “No!” at the ensign, and discharged the brawn gun point blank. The ensign flew backward through the air and slammed into the wall. Brawn then says forcefully to the ensign, who, by virtue of the armour that he was wearing had survived the shot, "You don’t touch the sister". The lone guardsman surrendered and the Commander then negotiated with the ensign and explained who and what we are, flashing our Inquisitorial identification. The ensign reciprocated by explaining that he is also an inquisitorial agent and what had caused the fate of his escort. We come to a truce. The Arbiter and Grim Trauma take sentry duty. After a few minutes of finally settling down and working out why both Inquisitorial squads are on the Child of Destiny we decide on a course of action.

The sentries suddenly announce moment in the area. We quickly take action to secure the space. The ensign and the guardsman guard move to watch the elevator room, the squad guarding the entry corridors to the elevator room. I take it upon myself to watch the ensign for any signs of duplicity, despite his identification. Mutant goblinoid looking creatures have gathered to launch an assault on us en mass. The team gives a good account of themselves. The little mutant bastards come out of the vents and drains, trying to outflank us. One jumps out of a vent and attempts to bite me, we struggle and bring my flail in an arc, smashing his mutant skull in. I hate the mutants more than I think is possible. They are deformed monstrosities born of inbreeding and exposure to the warp. I have no pity or remorse in killing them. The are classic examples of what the warp and chaos can do to the unfaithful and sinful members of the human race. They deserve to die. We push the mutants back. The ensign manages to get the elevator working. We escape the level. We don't have time to eradicate the vermin, mores the pity, but we have a mission to perform. We enter the secure area of the ship. We use our Inquisitorial codes to gain entrance into the secure section, the Inquisitional section of the ship.

SPECIAL INTEREST - MORDHEIM TABLE PROJECT - PART 1 This issue we look at an exiting project undertaken by Matt Garside who resides in the UK. Over a period of four months he created a MORDHEIM gaming table that spurred a fresh interest in the game, now out of production. As we at GGG are starting our own Mordheim campaign this month, it seemed timely that we were able to share Matts endeavour, and after making contact with him, he shared the following photographs and explanations.

First I started a few doodles and planned out where I wanted the streets...

I bought some MDF and started creating the framework of the board. I'm very comfortable with a jigsaw, and MDF flows through my veins ..

Using a 2 mm drill bit and my Dremel tool I scored the brickwork using a steel ruler as a guide, I also placed MDF behind the archways, the archways are scored freehand. I took the opportunity to add some sewer details here and there but mainly these alcoves have doors and statues in. SNAKE EYES

11

This is how I set up my street, 4" wide and 3"deep ..

I used 6mm MDF for the board top and planned how large I wanted my buildings to be and the spacing between..

I built some buildings overlapping the street to create bottlenecks ...

SNAKE EYES

12

And separate staircases…

Adding rubble adds loads of character, I use Blutak covered with sand and PVA glue...

My bridges were made out of small timber and coffee stirrers...

James’ blog talks about the concept that went into the creation of this project...see next page for the finished product and the other piece of art that graced the box of a game that started many a gamer into the wargaming hobby, including myself.

Realm of Chaos - The Lost and the Damned, the artwork for the cover shown in a sequence of production here for one of the two books that were produced to enhance the games of both Warhammer and Warhammer 40000. Extremely hard to get books, I only managed to acquire digital copies myself. The other of

course was Realm of Chaos - Slaves to Darkness (see picture of cover above right). Both books gave background to the four gods of chaos. The Lost and the Damned covered aspects and champion traits, and warband creation

of followers of the chaos gods Tzeentch and Nurgle. Slaves to Darkness depicted similar aspects for followers of the chaos gods Khorne and Slaanesh. Although the books were published many years ago, the chaos gods are still referenced in todays games of

Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40000, and in their many spinoffs of the basic games.

Courtney’s Conversions Part 2

Here on these two pages we witness again the shameless destruction of perfectly good models, including a Landraider, Space Marine Attack bike and an Ork Trukk amongst them. We showed other photos of this conversion two issues ago, and

it’s still not finished...which means that Courtney is certainly putting a lot of time into it. Interesting for something that’s going to get very shot up on the when it makes it’s first appearance on the game board, and then again, maybe not. After all, it does all come down to the roll of the dice on the day. I hate the idea of wrecking miniatures to make another so I

Courtney has done a great job on this and it will be good to see the completed conversion. WARLORD GAMES AND ITALERI ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP “We are thrilled to be able to announce we will be working closely with scale model giants Italeri”, says Warlord Games.

The first two 1:56 scale vehicles to be made available in plastic between the two companies will be the classic M4 Sherman medium tank and the deadly Panther Ausf. A, with many more already in the pipeline. Having grown up with Italeri’s fantastically detailed kits it is with great pride that Warlord Games will be working with the talented team at Italeri to bring many more plastic vehicles and terrain pieces to the wargaming world and further enhance our Bolt Action range. “We’ve spent many hours over the years building the marvellous kits from Italeri so we’re delighted to now be working with them to bring more plastic vehicles to gamers and collectors around the world” say Warlord Games founders, John Stallard and Paul Sawyer. Giuliano Malservisi and Gian Piero Parmeggiani, the founders of Italeri say “Italeri is very proud to announce an agreement with Warlord Games, a wargames company that produces an amazing range of historical miniatures, and the right partner to develop a new line of plastic in 1/56 scale”.

Members Spotlight - Sam Corvi I have been war gaming in some form or another for the past 41 years. I started when I was 7, playing with Airfix Cowboys and Indians and 7th Cavalry. That was the 1:72 scale figures. I think I was about 10 years old when I started my first collection. These were again Airfix but WW2 in the 1:32 scale. I also collected Napoleonic's in the 1:72 scale, and included Matchbox releases as well. At the height of my collecting I owned 15000 points of Warhammer High Elves, 9000 points of WH40k Space Wolves from Rogue Trader era, 4000 points of Chaos for Warhammer Fantasy, a huge Epic collection, Man O’ War, GorkaMorka, Necrons, Imperial Guard, Necromunda, Mordheim, BloodBowl, and of

course my Airfix/Matchbox collection. I still have my Mordheim, Imperial guard, Skaven, Ork & Dwarf original and later Dwarves BloodBowl teams, Spyrers for Necromunda, my Napoleonic's in the 1:72 scale and I am collecting a Tau army for 40k. Although I am more of a PC gamer now, I do still play Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Necromunda, BloodBowl, and 40k Roleplay (Dark Heresy). My favourite gaming system is Warhammer 40k and my favourite army is Imperial Guard.
