SCOPE This procedure provides minimum requirements for slings and rigging equipment used for hoisting and material handling.
2.0
DEFINITIONS COPI – ConocoPhilli ConocoPhillips ps Indonesia Qualified Inspector - - an experienced CONTRACTOR craftsperson or engineer, acceptable to the COMPANY, who has a MIGAS certification.
3.0
INSPECTIONS 3.1
Periodic - Slings and rigging equipment shall require quarterly and annual Periodic inspections by a Qualified Inspector. 3.1.1
This quarterly inspection shall be indicated indicated by the following following color-coded color-coded tape system or its equivalent refer to COPI document number ID-G-BU00000-00000-00315 00000-00000-00 315 - “Lifting Equipment Certification” Certification”
3.1.2
Employees using slings slings and and rigging equipment must ensure ensure the marking system remains legible between inspections.
3.1.3
Slings or rigging rigging equipment equipment with illegible illegible marking systems shall be considered unsafe and shall be removed from f rom service.
3.1.4

3.2

Slings, shackles, and other similar equipment must have a safety factor of five (5). 4.2.1
4.3
Safety Factor = “Nominal failure load” / “Rated working load” load”
Only quenched-dipped and forged lifting equipment attachments will be purchased for use. use. (Without this manu manufactured factured process, the a attachment ttachment will not not show deformation under heavy loads)
5.0
APPROVAL AND STAMPS All spreader spreader bars, eye pads, and other custom lifting dev devices ices must be engineere engineered d and the design stamped by a Registered Professional Engineer.
6.0
5.1
No makeshift devices are to be used.
5.2
CONTRACTOR shall control the issue of all lifting and hoisting equipment.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 6.1
Slings shall not be shortened with knots, bolts or other makeshift devices.
6.2
Sling legs shall not be kinked.
6.3
Wire rope slings must be 1/2" minimum diameter.
6.4
Slings used in a basket hitch shall have the loads balanced to prevent slippage.
6.5
Slings shall be securely attached to their loads.
6.6
Slings shall be padded or protected from the sharp edges of their loads.
6.7
Suspended loads shall be kept clear of all obstruction.
6.8
All employees shall be kept clear clear of loads about to be be lifted and clear of suspended loads.
6.9
Hands or fingers shall not be placed between the sling and its load while while the sling is being tightened around the load.
6.10
Shock loading is prohibited.
6.11
A sling sling shall not be pulled from under a load load when when the load is is resting on the sling.
6.12
The use of si single ngle leg slings with hand tucked eye splices is prohibited. Hand tucked types used in pairs will be acceptable. Slings with Flemish Flemish eye splices with pressed on fittings are preferred.
6.13
Slings that are damaged or defective shall not be used.
6.14
Both slings and rigging certifications can be seen on COPI document document number IDG-BU-00000-00000-00315 G-BU-00000-00000 -00315 - “Lifting Equipment Certification”
6.15
Slings and other rigging rigging equipment shall be assessed, determined, determined, applied and utilized by qualified or trained riggers in rigging of lifts greater then 100 kg.
