Acknowledgement Firstly, I would like to be grateful to the Almighty One and Only God, Allah s.w.t. Without HIS guidance and permission, none of these would have happened in the first place. Ultimate appreciation goes to my parents, without the sacrifices that they have made in order for me to be able to study, I would not be able to study in Petronas university of Technology in the first place. They are the ones that have been supporting me in all kinds of supports a child could ever have even though I have many downs rather than ups. I would like to thank Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd for giving me an opportunity to have an internship here. Special appreciation goes to both of my supervisors, Haji Salleh Amri bin Zahid playing the part as HC Company Supervisor and Mohd Zulhilmi Paiz Ismadi playing the part as Petronas University of Technology Supervisor. With their help, I was able to undergo this internship without having to face too much problems that may cause inconvenience in in the internship course or any personnel involved in the process. To conclude this acknowledgement, I would also like to thank you the engineers and staffs at Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd who have been helping me during the course of my internship programme.

As for the safety of the workers that work in the yard section at the back of the office, they have different rules needed to be followed compared to the office workers. The main rules concept is that to ensure the safety of the yard workers in case of any unavoidable incidents or accidents that may occur. The yard safety rules are almost similar to any field site workers in any Oil & Gas Industrial safety rules except the rules are not as strict. The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must always be worn by any worker in the yard section regardless of any worker. An office worker must comply with these rules if he or she wants to go to the yard section. The minimum PPE equipment that must be worn to enter the yard area are a set of coverall, a hard hat, and a pair of safety boots.
Standard Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) consisted of a Hard Hat, a Coverall, & a pair of Safety Boots worn by Highbase Strategic workers when doing any work that involves risks of having accidents or injuries.

Work Environment Team Work Team Work is a very important factor in any major companies especially engineering companies. Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd is also not excluded of in need for a good team work among the staffs in the company. A good team work is very important in order to ensure the work flow is as smooth as possible. A good team work also prevents late due date submissions on necessary document files, halt of projects, delay starts of projects, financial loss, and the most important, customer satisfaction. Most of the work that is need to be done in Highbase Strategic need a very good team work value. This is because most of these works needs everyone in the Operation & Maintenance Department to use each of their specialized skills in order to complete the whole project. Pressure Vessel Maintenance Team Chart
Work Pack Execution for any Involved Projects In the Operation & Maintenance Department, the department firstly need to make a work pack file for any project before starting it. The Work Pack file alone has several sections inside it such as work site survey reports, site photo reports, certificates and clearance passes of the field workers, approval from the project manager or CCO, and even some extra data that may varied across different projects.
20
Wan Muhammad Noraiman

Mechanical Engineering Department
So in order to complete these files in the Work Pack. The Operation & Maintenance Department has divided the tasks among the workers to finish each type of the section so that the whole work pack can be done faster, more accurate, and less mistakes done. The engineers in the Operation & Maintenance Department will collaborate with each other to obtain the necessary files needed for any of the field site report sections such as Field Site Photo Reports, Field Site Work Survey and similar files. The other staffs in the Operation & Maintenance Department such as the admin executive, the head resource executive, and the yard quartermaster will ensure the completion of other necessary and essential files such as the certificates and clearances pass of the incoming field workers for the project, the making and checking of the competency cards of incoming, and the amount and type of tools that are needed for any files involving others that the field site report. Then, for finalization processes, the files obtained from both side of the working team will be combined and compiled into a file. Hence, the work pack for any involving project is completed in a faster and better manner. The files are then checked by thee project manager for final approval process. After being approved, the work pack will be considered pass and done. Customer Service The Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd is also committed in giving the best possible customer service for the clients whether for only asking thee price packages for certain projects or even any related questions about Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd. The staffs from different sections will work together on this matter. For example if a client calls for a price package for a certain project, the engineers and the resources manager will determine the price that is suitable for that time without jeopardizing the quality of the service. These steps are necessary as the pricing of the services may vary across as the consumable supplies, the economic condition, and even the contract prices for the field workers may vary at different times.
21
Wan Muhammad Noraiman

When the data is obtained, the price package or any related answers asked by the clients earlier is sent directly to them by their preferred methods of emailing or calling them directly. Team Work Essentials & Maintenance Although team work can enable a certain company to be able to do things in a faster manner, an unorganized team work can cause the team to perform poorly and may cause even more problems in the work process such as conflicted files, wrong file sections, and even late synchronization between the teams. So, in order to avoid these, the Highbase has made some necessary rules that are needed to be followed by each of the team. The rules are rather simple and effective. The rules are that the work must be done within the period of time given by the clients. But the team can decide whether to submit their parts early or just in time for the deadline due date and time given. Highbase Strategic is also quite unique in maintaining the efficiency of the teamwork in the company. Weekly, a meeting known as “Super Meeting” is conducted and it involves every single workers in Highbase no matter what their rank and position are. The meeting would discuss some things among each other on how to improve the current team work efficiency for best work production possible.
As a result, the workers will be always be reminded that the Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd always put work quality first for their clients as goes the saying made by the Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd, “Together We Make It Better”.

Work Experience Skills Gained The Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd has taught many skills that are necessary in order to be able to work in a working environment effectively. The skills gained from the Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd are mostly enhanced skills that are already possessed in the first place. The difference is that the skills are honed and to be upgraded from an amateur level to professional level. Working Skills Learnt The technical skills such as doing proper files management such as doing work pack procedures and proper closed out reports taught the importance of making the files presented to the clients company to have as much useful information for the involved project but at the same time being compact and professionally arranged format. The files will represent the image quality of the management of the Highbase or any company that uses this method of presentation. Other technical skills learnt is the ability to read complicated engineering schematics diagram given by the engineers. This improved ability will surely help to work better in any engineering working environment as the information being taken out from the diagrams can be done in a faster and more efficient manner. Others than the technical skills given earlier, passive no technical skills are also learnt such as good file managements, effective communication process, and time management ability are also obtained. Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd taught these passive skills. As a result, managing files has become much more efficient and will not take up any unnecessary excessive time taken for editing, printing and compiling the files needed for a certain project whether before (Work Pack) or after (Closed out Report) project.

Communication Skill Communication skills is one of most fundamental skills to mankind but also currently the most important skill needed for any working environment. Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd always encourages all staffs to practice good professional communication skills to anyone while working. This is to ensure that the social status of the Highbase can be increased among the society or maintained properly. Communication Skills among Workers The communication skill is not only about how to speak professionally or in some sort of office style communication only. The communication skills taught at Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd is more to what communication skill is most effective for a certain communication circumstances while doing business and projects. For example, engineers will communicate among the engineers by using standard communication by using ISO standard files such as standard CAD drawings, standard calculations and standard code names for materials according the world ISO standards. This is the most effective communication among the engineers as the items, dimensions, and the necessary procedures needed to be done are explained very accurately and has no communication flaws or errors. But, different kind of communications are executed between engineers and the field workers. This is because the work needs to be done quickly rather than the need for super accurate results as long as the work done is within the acceptable range. This is important as the more time taken for a certain project to finish, the more money or financial value goes to the drain. So, the engineers simplified the communication skills such as making rough easy to read sketches, direct names of the products and items needed for the operation and the purpose of the project is stated out. This is to ensure faster and more efficient working procedure as even though the field workers know how to read the standard engineering procedures and such, it will still take time for them to interpret the data and this will cost time and eventually money.

Communication Skills among Clients As for the communications skill applied to the clients, the workers at Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd will adjust their communication skills as per needed according to the clients’ need. For example, the clients will tend to ask for the prices, packages of services provided, and time taken for the project to finish. So, the question will be sent to the engineers by the admin executive and will be analyzed. The engineers will find the proper procedures, items, and the time needed to finish the project as per asked by the clients. After all of the data are obtained, the data will be simplified and then sent to the admin executive in order to be sent to the clients through their preferred channel such as email, messages, or calls. If the client is dissatisfied with the packages offered by the Highbase, the engineers will explain whether a compromise can be done or simply the request was just not achievable or being too risky. If both side of the party, clients and Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd, agreed to the terms made earlier by both sides, the work pack for the project will soon begin and the project will be executed according to Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd standard procedure. Time Management Highbase Strategic taught that time management in a company is very important. This is because a good time management will ensure the work done to run smoothly and according to the due date or period of time given. If the time management is bad, the projects involved may be in a risk of not being executed and may cause problems even if are able to be executed. These problems may cause financial loss to the Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd or even worse, a bad reputation in terms of business social status.

The fingerprint attendance provided by Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd is very flexible so that the workers can choose the time range given earlier as long as the full 9 working hours is fulfilled.
The finger print attendance system used by Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd. The fingerprint attendance will take the time of coming in and out of the office. Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd Working Time Range The workers at Highbase Strategic values time management very much. They follow the procedures and the working process for the particular time quite strictly. They do not practice lateness or any delay in their working process that may cause delays in projects or even worse the dismissal of project contracts. Even so, the workers also set the maximum working rate for a certain working procedure. The time will vary among the working procedures according to their work size, needs, and priorities. This is to ensure that the works being done is not too quickly executed. Works that are done too quickly and may surpasses the 29

human limits of the workers will tend to have a lot of errors and mistakes that may cause problems for the projects in the future. Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd Working Leave At Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd, the company treats the workers as humans rather than fully fledged compulsory working people. The workers can ask for unpaid leave relatively easy as long as the reason is stated and being logical and acceptable. This procedure of unpaid leave is very important and needs to be done before the leave as the works can be rearranged among the workers to fill up the temporary absence. Personal Time Management Skills Gained from Highbase Time Management Process The personal skills obtained from Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd was to be very adaptable to time managements according to the circumstances at that particular time. That being said, one must always be punctual in their work so that the work flow will not be interrupted but must not be too quickly executed in order to avoid unnecessary errors made in the too fast process. Other personal skills obtained was to make the notice of absence earlier to prior date. This is also very important as the workers will be notified earlier and can adapt to the temporary change accordingly. Initiative Initiatives Honed The first initiative honed during working at Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd was to be able to solve the incoming challenges in a new work environment. The challenges provided by Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd should be done in a professional manner so that the professional skills may be enhanced for a better working experience and results in the future. The second initiative is the independent working data collection. This initiative was gained in order to enhance one knowledge without in need of excessive tutoring or help from any third parties as much as possible. This initiative will help oneself to be able to provide to the self independently in terms of any

interrupted and may cause damage physically or financially. The basic summary information some of services will be explained later. Pressure Vessel Cleaning & Maintenance Services Maintenance services offered by Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd is consisted of basic maintenance that may be needed for long term running vessels or tanks systems that are used by the Oil & Gas Company. This measure will make sure the operating tanks and vessels will always be able to perform at the highest capacity as possible without the risk of having any incidents or damages that may occur during their continuous operations. This section is consisted of three sub-sections:
Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd also offers replacement and fixing services for the vessels and tanks in the Oil & gas industry. Any partially non-working vessels or tanks that can be fixed will be tuned up and adjusted so that the vessels and tanks will perform at its peak condition again. If some parts of the vessels and tanks are damaged, the damaged parts will be replaced with the new ones so that the vessels and tanks can operate again without the need of replacing the entire tanks or vessels. This method is very favorable as it is very effective but also vey cost and time efficient. Highbase Strategic offered consumables, tools, equipment and even manpower needed in order to finish a certain project. Clients wishing to make a 33

contract project with Highbase can discuss on the suitable budget needed for the all in one package offered by Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd. Through this discussion, Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd will be able to execute the project without the need to involve third party suppliers. This method helps Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd to be able to do the project more swiftly, less time consuming and the most important is to be able to be on schedule. Tank Cleaning & Maintenance Services (Fixed & Floating Roofs) This section is focused to clean or maintain the Fixed or Floating Roof systems that most of the tanks in Oil & gas industry Companies have. The fixed roof is a very general thing for any tank to have. It is basically just a roof system at the top of the tank with no advanced feature that the floating roof has. It is just a basic rooftop protection against weather and environmental hazards that may cause impurities inside the stored liquid in the tanks. Floating roof is consisted of two sections which are Internal Floating Roof and External Floating Roof system. The internal and external floating roofs are designed to minimize vapor zone coming from thee fixed roof storage above any stored liquid in any tank system. The system reduces emissions and evaporative losses that may cause the products to be reduced in terms of stored liquid amount in the tanks. Both internal and external floating roof have the seal that prevents the vapor from escaping from the stored liquid tanks. The major difference that can be seen between the internal floating roof and the external floating roof system is that the internal floating roof system has the seal inside of the roof while the external floating roof has the seal outside of the roof.

Stored Liquids
Floating roof that will change vertical position depending on the level of the liquid stored inside the tank.
The internal floating roof system has the seal inside of the roof while the external floating roof has the seal outside of the roof as shown in the figure above. Cleaning & Maintenance of Heat Exchanger, Column, Stripper, CPI, and Reactor Heat Exchangers:
Information. Heat exchangers main purpose is to control the variables in terms of heat in the liquid that passes through it. Effects. A poorly maintained heat exchangers can cause fouling in the process such as particulate, corrosion, biological, crystallization, chemical reaction and freezing fouling. This may affect the production rate or the cost of the final product.

Column:
Information. Columns (Fractionating Column) are responsible for the process of fractional distillations that are performed to produce different oil types at different sections. Effects. A poorly maintained column can cause the oils not meeting the production rate target for each different section and may cause the impurities of the final products. Stripper:
Information. The stripper main function is to execute the process called stripping. The stripping process is a physical separation process where the liquid stream is treated with a vapor stream in order to remove any components inside the liquid stream that can cause impurities in the liquid stream. Effects. A poorly maintained stripper will cause impurities to present inside the treated liquid and hence will reduce production rate and final cost of the product.

CPI:
Information. CPI (Corrugated Plate Interceptor) is a type of oil separator that works based on relying on the gravity of the earth. This method is suitable for oily wastewater treatment for reducing or eliminating hazardous wastes inside. Effects. A poorly maintained CPI will cause higher untreated liquid ratio. The ability to reduce construction cost and the ability to facilitate maintenance are reduced. Reactor:
Information. The reactor or known as the Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) is an equipment that converts high boiling and high molecular weight of the hydrocarbons inside the petroleum crude oil that is practically unusable as fuels into usable oils such as gasoline, olefinic gases, and other consumable products. Effects. A poorly maintained reactor or FCC will produce undesirable results of the final oil

products. The oils may have impure hydrocarbons left inside them and will cause the cost and the production rate to decrease. HAZMAT Monitoring & Decontamination Services
. This service is mainly focused on contamination detection and the decontamination process if necessary and needed in case of areas present with contamination. The contamination can be present in all kind of states whether they are solid, liquid or in gaseous state. Contamination is more to hazardous materials rather than dirty materials. Contaminated areas can be determined by seeing if the substances involved are hazardous to biological beings such as humans, animals and even the environment. If the area proves to contain hazardous materials that can harm biological beings, the decontamination team will come in and decontaminate the area by neutralizing the area with neutralizing chemical substances so that it will be safe or just simply removing the contaminated objects in the area and sent to proper facilities to dispose of them.

Completing Task Given On Time During the internship course, the host company, Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd always encourage people not to submit any work later than the designated time given for each task. Even if the work does not need to be rushed, Highbase has taught that submitting the work tasks early but still maintaining a good speed ratio of doing work is better than submitting the work last minute. This culture is heavily practiced at Highbase because the mistakes in the work tasks can be detected if any is present. The work tasks such as making work pack or closed out reports, taking out supplies, and managing manpower will be easier to make and will have less errors than the conventional deadline submission type work. However, doing tasks in the last minute should not be done as it will tend to cause a lot of mistakes and errors that may cause inconvenience when the task is continued later or may even burdening the work colleagues.

Discussion on Sustainability Common Practice & Future Recommendation Environmental Sustainability Although the oil & gas industry is very important to the modern world as the industry provides the fuel necessary for our vehicles and electricity, the environment quality and perseverance is also as important as the industry itself. Highbase Strategic believes that if the environment is not maintained properly or even worse totally being neglected, disasters and hazardous circumstances will tend to happen that will not only harm the individuals in the damaged environment but also damaging the industrial sectors in terms of financial, social status, and the most important is the level of civic consciousness. Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd noticed the importance of maintaining balance between the industrial work and the environment. Highbase Strategic implements its beliefs by making a few company rules that must be followed before, during, and after doing any projects that is involved in Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd. The work that involves wastes being made before, after, and while doing the work must have the wastes being disposed properly according to the standard procedures according to the international standards.
The wastes that are typically produced after a certain project are consisted of two types of wastes, domestic waste and scheduled waste, domestic wastes are the normal non-hazardous wastes that we can see every day even in normal neighborhood areas such as excess woods, papers, plastics and any other normal non-hazardous wastes. As for chemical wastes such as chemical sludge from cleaning a tank that need to be disposed are not allowed to be disposed directly into the environment whether on land, in water or sea, or even in air. The chemicals must be properly enclosed in designated containers given by the health sector and then sent to the

nearest certified company at specializes in disposing the dangerous and harmful chemical properly. Highbase also tightly implements a very good final housekeeping after any work whether the work is hazardous or just normal harmless maintenance. Highbase Strategic believes that an excellent housekeeping will keep the work area clean and easy to maneuver as well as preventing risks of accidents that may cause pollutions to the environment such as leakage of wastes and hazardous chemicals. Economical Sustainability Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd has been contributing to the oil & gas industry development in Malaysia for a long time and will continue to do so. In fact, many oil & gas giant companies such as PETRONAS, Shell, and Buller prefer Highbase Sdn Bhd for their oil & gas maintenance and other services. This achievement is possible thanks to Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd workers always striving to achieve the best result possible at an affordable service for their company clients without compromising the final work quality at all. Highbase believes that even if profit is very important for any company, the quality must not be compromised. This is because if poor quality is made in the final work result because of irresponsible acts such as using low quality materials to minimize purchase price or even works that are not done properly according to the procedure will tend to cause issues that can halt the operation of the clients company or even worse major issues like working disasters, chemical leakage, and similar circumstances. Political & Cultural Dimensions Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd has always been keeping its political status as neutral to any kind of politics that may occur in this country. Highbase Strategic Sdn Bhd also does not allow excessive and unnecessary political discussion, display & similar events that may cause discomfort among the workers or even create the risk of the workers arguing with each other in a bad manner. However, Highbase Strategic always encourage its workers to be open minded and accepting to others’ culture. Highbase encourages its workers to respect
