Shem ha-Mephoresh, The Divine Name of Extension The Shem ha Mephoresh (Hebrew: "Name of Extension"), is the famed seventy-two-fold Name of Divinity. In truth, it is a collection of 72 three-lettered Names which embody the Great Wheel of the Zodiac. From these Names we derive 72 Angelic Princes responsible for the manifestation of the Zodical Forces in reality, and who act as Guides and Protectors through our world. As there are 9 choirs of Angels, there are several names, like those which are below, which descends from name of God, Exodus14:19-21

The 72-fold Name its self comes from three verses of Exodus; chap 14 verses 19, 20, and 21 outside of the fact that the latter is associated with the zodiac, and the zodiac itself is ruled by twelve permutations of the Tetragrammaton. In and of itself, the Tetragrammaton rules (among other things) the Zodiacal Forces. The four Elemental Powers of the Name are rearranged into twelve "permutations" to show forth the Powers of the Twelve Signs.

These three verses, when written in the original Hebrew, each contain exactly 72 letters. In this way does the Tetragrammaton govern the Wheel of the Zodiac. There are only twelve possible ways for a group of four letters to be arranged, and it is meant to illustrate how the Four Elements combine in differing combinations to produce four Triplicities. The twelve Zodiacal Signs themselves are traditionally divided into three parts each- called Decanates. There are 36 such Decans, each one ruled by a Planetary Force, and lasting about ten days. Just as we saw above how each Sign is shown (by the Elders) in it's Rising and Falling aspects, so each Decan has a dualmanifestation- called the Quinences. That gives us the final total of 72 "idioms" within the Zodiac. Each Quinence lasts five days, and that is the meaning of the "seventy-two fives" Agrippa describes above. Also, these five-day periods are sometimes refered to as the "day" and "night" of the Decan, instead of rising and falling. The technique of deriving Names, descriptions, functions, etc from Scripture is a longestablished Qabalistic Tradition. For instance, if an unnamed Angel delivers a message, simply take the first letter of each word He speaks and you will have the Angel's Name. Take a description of an Angel and add up the numeric value of the entire phrase, then see what Hebrew words and phrases have the same value, and you will get a clue into the function of the Angel. The possibilities are endless. According to tradition, the 72 names of God, was manifested by the Angel to Moses our father with which he performed many miracles before pharaoh and preached all his life with humility, purity and sincerity, and these sixty and twelve names, draw their origin and source from the great holy name of four letters: IOD-HE-VAU-HE. The sixty and twelve verses of the bible of which each of the said verses contain in it one of the 72 great names of God and contain three sacred characters which by the virtue of the Holy Spirit is composed of an admirable word, formed of three letters in which the Wise Men say there is an intelligence or an angel of God who carries with him the Majesty and Power of the Divine Name expressed by the three verses. The three verses are to be written in a pattern called "as the ox plows": the first verse is written on one line, from right to left; the second verse is written directly under the first, from left to right; and the final verse is written below the second from right to left. The result is three horizontal lines of seventy-two letters, which are then read in downward columns to receive 72 Names of three letters a piece. Each Angelic Name is created by adding El or Yah to the end of the Shem ha Mephoresh Name which He or She embodies

The significance of these verses is rather subtle, outside of the simple fact that they contain 72 letters apiece. The main focus is on the Angelic Presence which guided and protected the Israelites on their escape from Egypt. Exodus 23:20-21 describes Him: "Behold, I send an Angel before you, to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared .Beware of Him, and obey His voice; provoke Him not, for He will not pardon thy transgressions; for My Name is in Him. But, if though shalt indeed obey His voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy unto your enemies, and an adversary unto your adversaries. For my Angel shall go before you, and bring you unto the Amorites, and the Hittites [...etc...]; and I will cut them off." As most modern Mages will tell you, the above is a perfect description of the Holy Guardian Angel, who is set over you at birth to guide and protect you, and to lead you unto your destiny. You must follow the Voice of this Angel, for His is the voice of Karma, and to ignore it- to refuse learning the lessons the Universe has to teach you- is to invite hardship. The significance of the above is the one phrase "for my Name is in Him", because the Holy Guardian Angel holds the Authority of the Divine Source in your life. As God said of the Arch Angel Metetron (who is literally the Holy Guardian Angel of the entire Universe),"...what He will command at My bidding, ye must observe and do." The Angel of Exodus 14 is the Holy Guardian Angel of the Nation of Israel, and there is ample reason to believe that this Angel would naturally be viewed as Zodiacal in nature. The most important clue is that of the Twelve Tribes themselves. For, it is by these that Israel repeatedly defines and identifies itself in Biblical writings, and the twelve-fold power of Israelis shown throughout the Tanakh (Old Testament). For instance, the Magic used by the Patriarchs of Genesis seems always to be Zodiacal, Moses' Staff possessed a twelve-fold Power (much like the Golden Dawn's Zodiacal "Lotus Wand"), and the Holy Rites of Israel were always formatted around a twelve-fold system of some kind (such as the stones on the High Priest's breastplate- one for each Tribe). Since anything in physical reality is nothing more than a reflection of the Holy Guardian Angel set above it, then the Angel in this case must also embody these Twelve Forces. Thus by this mysterious Psalm composed of sixty and twelve verses: you would praise and adore God by the evocation of the sixty and twelve names, and attract to yourself the protection of the sixty and twelve angels; it is through their evocation that one obtains by revelation or in other ways what one requests from God. They present to Him our requests and our prayers and also mediate between us and Him.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE OPERATIONS: RITUAL OF: THE SHEMAMPHORASH USING THE COHEN CIRCLE The Operation of the Shemamphorash can be done anytime. INCENSE: The Incense to be used is Frankincense and Myrrh, in equal proportions, well pulverized and thoroughly mixed. THE TIME: Each evening, between 9 p.m. and midnight, alone in the Oratory, with profane lighting extinguished, the Operator will light a white wax candle, in the center of the circle, placing it near the letter 'SHIN', (see diagram) and will stand in the center with the Candle between his legs. CONSECRATION OF THE CIRCLE: The Circle and the Circles corresponding to the four corners will be consecrated by reciting the Psalms given further on. After having censed the circumference of the Circle three times on the first evening of the Operation, it will not be necessary to cense it again until the last night of the Operation; nevertheless, care should be taken to ALWAYS BURN A LITTLE INCENSE in the censer. THE METHOD: The Operator, standing thus in the center of the circle, and holding another candle in his left hand, will read the respective ritual, following the orally communicated instructions. The fear of Adonai is clean, enduring forever, the judgements of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Adonai, my strength and my redeemer.

At the South, cense three times and recite: Psalm 11 In Adonai put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. If the foundations be destroyed O Iah what can the righteous do? Adonai is in his holy temple, Adonai's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. Adonai trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. For the righteous Adonai loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright. At the West, repeat the Operation and recite: Psalm 15

At the North, cense again and recite: Psalm 8 O Adonai our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and halt crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. All the Psalms could be recited collectively, and a general plea made to the angels or a particular Angel could be selected as I did in the example whose help is requested for a particular purpose.
