Description
September,12th 2011 This was the first meeting in pronunciation practice with Maemuna Muhayyang. She explained that letters were formed by vowels and consonants. There are twelve vowels in English, they are : /i/,/i:/,/a/,/ʌ/,/e/,/æ/,/ə/,/ɔ/,/ɔ:/,/u/,/u:/,/ε/ There distinction between one letter and another to pronounce it, but it almost some to me.If we got mistake to pronounce a word,so you get another meaning. For example about pronounce “bath” and “bat”. Today we try to pronounce “A” to “Z” correctly.I got a challenge to pronounce “F”.I try so hard but it is so difficult.Mom Maemuna said that just follow her lips. Finally,I got this task.Oh,I almost forget that Mom Maemuna told us about the rule to enter her class. September 19th 2011 Today is the second meeting. In the past week, mom maemuna told us to form a small group. My group consisted of my friends, namely Uswatun Nisa, Suciati Pratiwi. And also last week, mom maemuna gave us the task to find examples of words that it contains twelve vowel letters. Every single vowels are given three examples of words accompanied by how to pronounce the word. and the meaning of the word in Indonesian. Then my friends in my tiny group followed what i'm saying for. September 26th 2011 Mom Maemuna got sick. October 3rd 2011 Today Mom Maemunah still not completely healthy. he still looks tired and kept on his desk isotonic drinks. Then., She explained about the phoneme. In a presentation made by mom maemuna, I see that : A phoneme is a class of phonetically similar sounds signals That difference in meaning. Gleason (1979: 9) describes the phonemes as a minimum feature of the expression system of a language spoken by the which one thing may be said That is distinguished from any other thing That Might have been said. And the smallest difference the which can differentiate utterances with different contents is a difference of a single phoneme.Phonemes of English have two segmentations. They are as follows: a) Segmental phonemes, for short, segmental. The segmentals comprise two major divisions or classes namely vowels and consonants.
b) Suprasegmental phonemes, for short suprasegmentals. Suprasegmentals have been explained under the topic – the sentence. There are 12 suprasegmentals in English. And Mom Maemuna explained The common spelling of (I),The spelling of (i:)The spelling of (ᴧ)The spelling of (e)The spelling of (ə) At ten minutes before Mom Maemuna leave the class, she gave us an assignment. The assignment is : we have to find three samples word each part of spelling the vowels with the sample sentence.
October 10th 2011 At this meeting, we learn about studying the phoneme. We are still learning about vowels, because in the past week, we still study it in part. So we were taught by the mom maemuna to learn the next four vowels Namely (as shown on the display presentation) The spelling of / u /: 1.Regular (book, hood, good) 2.Common (Could, Should, would, bosom, bouquet, wolf, woman. The spelling of / u: /: 1.Regular (blue, tube, new) 2.Common (food, group) 3.Single words (do, who, Whose, lose, move, tomb) 4.Exceptional words (beautiful) The spelling of / ↄ /: 1.Regular (hot, off, cross) 2.Common (want, quality) 3.Exceptional words (gone, cauliflower, cough, knowledge, through The spelling of / ↄ: /: 1.Regular (peace be upon him, fault) 2.Common (more, board, four) (a + L final): tall, wall, fall (w + ar): war, quarter
And then, we move to learn about consonants :
/p/ pin /t/ tin /k/ kin /b/ bin /d/ din /g/ gun /tʃ/ chin /dʒ/ judge
/f/ fat /θ/ think /s/ sin /ʃ/ shine /v/ van /∂/ this /z/ zoo /ʒ/ measure
/m/ mean /n/ name /ŋ/rang /r/ run /l/ lip /y/ young /w/ wait /h/ hang
It's really hard to distinguish how to pronounce /tʃ/ and /dʒ/.Every one have laugh when someone has wrong to pronounce the letter. And at the end of meeting,we got an assingnment to find Three samples word about what mom Maemuna has tell us today with the sample sentence each of the sample word. And next week,we must join with our own group to practice the samples word and the samples sentence.I'm happy because my partners are beautiful girls.I'm very excited with it.
October 17th 2011
Today I and my group practice examples of words and sentences. later, mom maemuna quickly leave the class for taking care of our accreditation majors, majoring in English education Makassar State University.
