GoodYouth GovernanceProgram The Philippines has been known as a pioneer for recognizing the youth’s significant role in nation-building. Since the 1970s, it has enacted platforms to advance youth participation in governance and community development. Today, there are at least 200,000 elected youth leaders and over 5,000 youth-led organizations in the country, each advocating for their own causes and inspiring active citizenship. The passage of the SK Reform Law in 2016 helped create larger spaces for youth participation, integrated sustainable development in long-term youth development goals and created better mechanisms for youth empowerment. ISSUES
But despite these platforms, key issues still remain: 1. Lack of awareness about platforms for youth participation in governance; 2. Vulnerability to traditional politics; politics; and 3. Need to improve SK training opportunities. Due to these issues, our own youth leaders have been hit by criticism and burdened by expectations against them. This led to a lot of youth leaders feeling disillusion, have lost motivation, and have become inactive in their communities.
GoodYouth GovernanceProgram SOLUTION
Because of this, we are launching the Good Youth Governance campaign as a solution for these problems. Specifically through these three (3) components: 1. Seal of Good Youth Governance (SGYG (SGYG)): a merit-based recognition program that will ignite motivation among youth leaders to fulfill their mandates and raise their standards of youth governance 2. ActivateGov: a capacity-building program that will complement SGYG and help our target groups in improving their leadership capacity and service delivery as young leaders 3. Youth Policy Unit: our research and lobbying arm that will engage key government agencies and officials to review youth policy implementation and forward relevant relevant reforms
