Ellipses Here's an exercise to do: Draw a bunch of ellipses and then find the minor axis. Forget about the major axis forever. It's not important. Ha! Take that, Chongers.

10-15 PAGES

After drawing a few pages of ellipses, go back and find the minor axis. After drawing a few pages of these, switch the steps around. Lay down a bunch of minor axes, and then draw an ellipse.

Here's a trick. Watch the position of your forearm in relation to the minor axis. You'll probably find that your forearm and the minor axis are parallel. Pretty cool, no?

Other Exercises 1. Draw a bunch of dots on paper or using a tablet. Try to connect the dots with a straight confident line. 2. Draw three dots and then try to connect the three with a smooth curve.

Proportion The golden proportion again.

Line Weight

1 - 1.68 proportion or,

Where the curve is moving, the line should be thicker to accelerate the line.

The golden proportion again.

Line Weight

1 - 1.68 proportion or,

Where the curve is moving, the line should be thicker to accelerate the line. This is a notion taken from life drawing.

Trick for finding the last vanishing point. Picture cutting a plane through the part that is perpendicular to your line of sight. Draw a horizontal line A, then vertical B, then horizontal C. Connect the last vertical and find the last point. Try to rewrite this better later.

Scott Robertson's tools of choice Pilot Hi-Tech C, 0.03 - 0.05. Has a steel nib. Keep a tissue nearby to clean nib as you draw. Keeps drawings clean. Power Tank by UNI
