Description
Saptarishi Nadi & Timing of Marriage – Part 4 By yenbeeyes Rule as given in Nadi Saturn, Jupiter, Mars and Venus are the planets to be considered for this purpose. Saturn is a Karma karaka. Jupiter is the Jeeva planet representing the life force. Mars is taken as the karaka planet for marital knot. Venus is for marital life. Compared to mars and Venus, while the former indicates the actual marriage, the later indicates the whether the marriage will be a blissful or otherwise. Rahu and Ketu are the other planets which may hinder the marriage. Transits: In Nadi astrology, importance is given to transits of Jupiter and Saturn. When there is a connection between the karaka planets (in this case Mars and Venus) in the natal chart with the transit position of Saturn and Jupiter the event (here marriage) fructifies. The 7th house from the Lagna indicates the marriage partner. 7 th sign Mars is also important and a similar treatment is to be given to that sign also. When Jupiter and/or Saturn transits the 7th sign from the Lagna and/or from Mars and/or aspects these signs event is likely to happen. Here transits of planets are involved. In Saptarishi Nadi charts, it will be difficult to ascertain the actual position of transit on the date of marriage as we are not given the exact date. Only the age is given. The balance of dasa at birth is given. In view of this I have in my earlier parts, tried to connect the running dasa, Antardasa at the time of marriage using various techniques found in the classics. However, there is a method in Nadi where a rough calculation of movement of planets is being calculated. Jupiter takes one year to move from one sign to the next sign. Saturn takes 2½ years to move from sign to sign. The movements of these two planets are forward. Rahu and Ketu takes 1½ years in the backward direction to move from one sign to another sign. With the aid of these we can fix the sign wherein the four planets Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu will be can be ascertained. So during their transit when Jupiter and Saturn establish a connection with Mars, the karaka for the marital knot, the event will take place. But such a situation may arise many times and it is not essential that every time under such a situation marriage will happen. So the difficult task is to select that particular transit which will lead to marriage. Here the principle of ‘Desh, Kaal, Paatra’ or ‘Place, time and situation’ comes into play. In India the marriage normally happens after 18 or 21 years. In very rare case the marriage goes beyond 35 or 40, which might even be the second or third marriage.
Based on this, we can say that Jupiter in its second round which is between 13 and 24 or the third round which lies between 25 and 36, marriage is likely to happen. Saturn takes thirty years, so the first or the second round will decide the issue. Rahu takes 18 months for one round and hence second round which is between 19 and 36 will suffice. In exceptional cases it may extend to the third period. Readers might be well aware of the Bhrigu Chakra Paddhati (BCP) rules about which lot of articles have appeared in this magazine. A similar approach is applied here with only the difference that the planets are rotated. In Nadi Astrology transits in Navamsa are also given due importance. However, we will not be taking them into consideration here as Navamsa chart is not available in the Nadi. The next point is the retrograde planets are to be placed in the previous sign and results ascertained. This will also be not taken as the retrograde positions are not furnished in the Nadi. Next is exchange of houses by planets. Whenever there is exchange of Mars with another planet, it is to be considered as if Mars is placed in its own sign. There are some more additional rules also which I am not taking up as we cannot use them for these charts due to absence of birth details. To summarise: 1. Check whether Jupiter during transit ascertained as above conjoins or aspects natal Mars or the 7th sign from Lagna or Mars. 2. Saturn’s transit is also to be ascertained as above. 3. The 12th and the 2nd positions of Jupiter/Saturn also influence the planets in between them. So marriage is likely if Jupiter or Saturn is placed either in the 12 th or 2nd to Mars during transits as calculated above. Rahu/Ketu is not taken into consideration as normally they put obstructions to marriage. It is true that with these three rules it will be very difficult to arrive at the correct result. If the above three rules are applicable in Navamsa, then also the event is likely to fructify. I am not linking the dasa-antardasa as the method itself is only a rough one. However, I am giving the running dasa-antardasa at the time of marriage so that readers can satisfy themselves using other methods already explained in the previous articles or can use their own methods. And the verification of this rule in Navamsa is also not possible as Navamsa cannot be calculated due to absence of birth details.
Chart No. 31 For this chart the birth nakshatra is Uttaraphalguni and the balance of dasa at birth is of Sun which is of 1 year 3 months.
The marriage will be in his 30th year. Hence Mahadasa running at that time will be of Rahu. The Antardasa of Mercury will be over when the native is of 28 years and 9 months. Ketu Antardasa will run till his 29 year, 9 months and 18 days. The next Antardasa will be of Venus.
Ju-30 Years -
Transit of Jupiter: In the 30th year Jupiter after completing 2 rounds consisting of 24 years would have travelled 6 more signs and would be in Cancer. Transit of Saturn: Since 30 year is the full time of one round for Saturn, it will be in its natal position. Result: Saturn is conjunct Mars and placed in the 7th house from Lagna and aspects the 7th house from Mars. Jupiter from Cancer has no link with Mars or the 7 th house from Lagna as well as from Mars. Chart No. 32: Marriage will be in his 18th year. Balance of dasa at birth is not given in the nadi. 18th year Jupiter will be in Taurus where natal Mars is placed. So the 7 th house from Mars will be aspected by Mars. Saturn will be in Aquarius from where it will aspect Scorpio which is the 7th from Mars.

If we take the birth date as 10-05-1889 we get the following chart from Jhora with Lahiri Chitra Paksha Ayanamsa.
Since Jupiter is retrograde here as per transit in the 18 th year it should be placed in Aries which will be the 12th from Mars. There will be no change in the position of Saturn and it will be in Aquarius during his 18th year aspecting the 7th house from Mars. Here since the Navamsa is available we can take up the rule regarding Navamsa in respect of the transit. 1. During the transit if Jupiter aspects Navamsa Lagna or the Navamsa Lagna lord, marriage is likely to materialize. 2. Transit Saturn if it aspects the Navamsa Lagna or its lord then also marriage will materialize. The Navamsa chart for the above is also given above. Jupiter from Aries (in transit) will aspect Navamsa Lagna Leo as well as its lord Sun placed in Sagittarius. Saturn from Aquarius will aspect only the Navamsa Lagna. There is an exchange between Venus and Mars. But since Venus is retrograde we cannot consider this as exchange as Venus will be moved to Pisces. Whenever there is an exchange between Mars and another planet, Mars is to be considered as if it is in its own sign.

Native will marry in his 20th year. Balance of dasa at birth was not given. Jupiter in the 20th year will be in the 8th from its natal position which will be Aquarius wherein Mars is placed. Saturn will be in Taurus from where it will aspect Mars. For a birth date of 13-04-1896, we get a chart from Jhora which is given below. (both Rasi and Navamsa). Ayanamsa taken is Lahiri Chitra Paksha Ayanamsa.
Transit Jupiter will be in Aquarius but Saturn’s position will change due to retrograde movement. Putting Saturn in Virgo 20 th year will be represented by Aries from where there is no link with Mars or its 7th house. With Saturn in Aries there is no aspect on Navamsa Lagna Gemini nor on its lord Mercury. Jupiter has conjoines Navamsa Lagna Lord Mercury. Chart N0.34 Sa-23Y

Let us use the rules and try to fix the marriage time. It will happen during the 2 nd round of Jupiter and the 1 st round of Saturn. In 16th year Jupiter will be in Cancer conjunct Mars when Saturn will be in Taurus aspecting Mars. That is the conclusion that we will arrive at. But the nadi states that the marriage will be at the age 19. At this age Jupiter will be in Libra and Saturn in Gemini. Transit Jupiter has no link with Mars or the 7th from Mars. Saturn will be in the 12th to Mars. Another connection is the placement of Jupiter in the 7th house from Lagna. So we cannot say that the rule fully applies to this chart. This is the difficulty in using this rule for predictions as this is only a rough method. Jupiter dasa balance at birth is 2 years and 5 months. At the age of 19, Saturn dasa will be running. Rahu Antardasa will be from 16 years and 12 days to 18 years 10 months and 18 days followed by Jupiter Antardasa. Between April 19, 20, 21 in the year 1869 we get the planetary positions as stated above. But the position of Mercury is not as per the Nadi. Mercury goes to Pisces. Also the Janma nakshatra which has to be Punarvasu moves to Pushya. In Raman’s Ayanamsa the nakshatra comes correctly but the position of Mercury is in Pisces. Hence further analysis not done. Marriage at the age of 18. Jupiter will be in the 6th house Virgo from where it will aspect Capricorn which is the 7th house from natal Mars. Saturn will be in Leo from where it will aspect the 7th house from Lagna and there will be no link with Mars or its 7 th house. The birth is in Chitra nakshatra and balance of Mars dasa at birth is 2 years and 2 months. (This seems to be wrong as Moon is stated to be in Gemini and hence the nakshatra and dasa must be wrong). On 08-08-1904 with Lahiri Chitra Paksha Ayanamsa, the planetary positions tally including that of Moon. The nakshatra at birth can be Mrigasirsha and the position of Moon will tally with the nadi chart. Balance dasa at birth will also be Mars. However for the details as per given below chart the balance dasa does not tally. It comes to 2 years 10 months and 28 days on a 360 day solar year.
Transit Jupiter will remain as stated before. Saturn being retrograde will be moved back to Sagittarius and in the 18th year of the native it will be in Cancer where natal Mars is placed. But in Navamsa lagna the rule fails. Chart No. 37

This is the horoscope of a female. Majority of the charts in Saptarishi Nadi are of male. Female horoscopes are rarely found.
Marriage will be at the age of 10. Such early marriages are common in those days. Even in male horoscopes we have seen that the marriage has happened very early and we can easily infer how young the spouse will be. At birth Venus Mahadasa was running. Balance period not given. Jupiter will be in Scorpio from where it will aspect the 7 th house from natal Mars which is Cancer. Saturn will be in Gemini and except placement in the 12 th house to the 7th house of Mars, there is no other link between Saturn and Jupiter. Chart No. 38 This native is of a male. He was born in Bharani Nakshatra 2 nd pada. Venus dasa balance at birth is 12 years and 8 months. Marriage will be held when he is 17 years old. Transit Jupiter has to be placed in Gemini and Saturn in Aquarius. Saturn aspects natal Mars and Jupiter aspects the 7th house from Mars. Native will be running Sun dasa. Saturn Antardasa will be starting at 15 years 6 months and 6 days and will run up to 16 years 5 months and 18 days. Thereafter Mercury Antardasa for 10 months and 6 days. Ju-17Y

This native is a male and he will get married in his 16 th year. Balance of Venus dasa at birth is 10 years and 4 months. At the time of marriage Sun dasa will be running. Under this Mercury Antardasa will be over by 14 years 11 months and 24 days. The next Antardasa of Ketu will be over by 15 years and 4 months. This will be followed by Venus Antardasa. In this chart our rule totally fails. Jupiter will be in Taurus and Saturn will be in Cancer.
Chart No. 40
The native who is a male will get married in his 19th year. Balance of Ketu dasa at birth is 6 years and 5 months. Venus dasa Rahu Antardasa ends at 16 years 7 months. Next Antardasa of Jupiter will be up to 19 years and 3 months. Transit Jupiter has to be placed in Taurus and Saturn in Cancer. Jupiter is placed in the 2nd to Mars. Saturn aspects Mars.
Conclusion: Normally in Nadi Astrology Venus is taken for wife and Mars is taken for husband as Karakas. But this method takes only Mars as the deciding factor for deciding about the time of marriage which is stated in nadi as tying the marital knot which is the custom prevalent In India especially in the South. To go through the remaining 38 charts analyzing the marriage time with the same techniques will definitely be not in the interest of the readers. Hence I stop here analyzing the remaining charts. As we have lot of limitations due to the absence of birth details, many more techniques cannot be applied to justify the time of marriage given in the nadi. Similarly for the other Lagnas from Taurus to Virgo I will not touch upon this subject.
