Program / Project / Sub-project
Program A project marked as a program becomes a program. The difference then is that it can be opened only in read mode and is used to manage a portfolio of projects under it.
Project A project is a set of activities designed to achieve a specific objective. Its key elements are tasks, which define project work, and staff, who perform it.
Sub Project A sub project is also a project. It is known as a sub project only if it is added as subproject to any project. Information Systems Group (ISG)

Resource Assignments Resources can be assigned in two ways: 1. Through Spreadsheet You can drag a resource row and drop it over a task row and vice versa to assign a resource to one or more tasks. Similarly you can also select one or more task rows and drop them on one resource or select one or more resources and drop it over one task to make multiple assignments 2. Through Task Property Dialogue Box You can double click a task row header and select the resources to be assigned to the selected task but not vice versa
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Resource Release
The only way to remove resources from a task, is using the dialogue box. We will remove Heather from this task. Select Heather using the row selector. Click on Release, and Heather is removed from the Assigned Resources list. Note: You are not allowed to release a resource if they have actual usage.

Estimated Time to Complete (ETC)
Estimated time to complete is a projection of the time and / or effort required to complete a project activity Estimated time to complete is a value that is expressed in hours of work required to complete a task or project During the initial stages of project planning one of the main objectives is to get a realistic estimation of time to complete. Estimating the time to complete is one component of the project plan
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Estimated Time to Complete (ETC) ETC defines the number of hours that are estimated to complete a project or task. Once a project or task is underway, ETC reflects the number of remaining hours estimated to complete the project.
Once a resource is assigned enter an ETC
Information Systems Group (ISG)

Constraint – Locked Task
The Start date of a locked task will not change even if the end date of its predecessor task changes
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Constraint – Fixed Task
This will allow you to distribute this ETC of 8 hrs over two days instead of the default one day distribution
You may increase or decrease the duration of a Task irrespective of the ETC assigned by checking on fixed and changing the duration manually
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns
There are 5 loading patterns: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Front Back Contour Uniform Fixed
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Front Examples on each Loading Pattern 1.Front: Allocates usage in the task as early as possible
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Front After Autoschedule
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Back 2. Back: Allocates usage in the task as late as possible
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Back After Autoschedule
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Contour 3. Contour: Attempts to allocate the same usage amount for each day of the tasks duration, contingent on resource availability
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Contour After Autoschedule
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Uniform 4. Uniform: Allocates the same usage amount for the days within the task’s duration. During “Autoschedule”, a uniform-loaded task may be shifted to a later date in the schedule, if there is an over commitment of resources
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Uniform After Autoschedule
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Fixed 4. Fixed: This pattern is used to allocate resource usage to meet your specifications
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Fixed After Autoschedule
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Contour v/s Uniform Difference in Contour and Uniform when Fixed Loading Pattern comes into Picture
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Loading Patterns - Contour v/s Uniform After Autoschedule
Information Systems Group (ISG)
Autoschedule Autoschedule will NOT: • Change the duration of a fixed duration task • Reassign resources • Change the total usage of a task • Move Completed tasks, tasks that are Locked for scheduling, or Fixed Loaded tasks

Baseline Baseline creates a snapshot for later comparison with the then current plan in order to track variances
You may do either of the following : 1.Baseline the entire project To be done when the “as-of-date” plan is created 1.Baseline only the selected tasks To be done when there are additions to your original base lined plan. Select only the newly added tasks and baseline them. These baselines will be appended to the original baseline thus maintaining only one baseline
