OVERVIEW OF STEPS TAKEN TO CREATE THE FINAL PART:
OVERVIEW OF STEPS TAKEN TO CREATE THE FINAL PART: From Drawing to CAD Model: The student should examine the drawing on the following page to understand what part is being created in the tutorial. From the drawing we can decide how to create the geometry in Mastercam.
Create the 2D CAD Model using: The student will create the Top 2D geometry. Geometry creation commands such as Create Rectangle, Chamfer, Arc Polar, Circle Center Point, Mirror, and Join will be used.
This tutorial takes approximately an forty five minutes to complete.

SETTING UP THE GRAPHIC USER INTERFACE
GEOMETRY CREATION
STEP 1: SETTING UP THE GRAPHIC USER INTERFACE Please refer to the Getting Started section to set up the graphical user interface.
STEP 2: CREATE RECTANGLE NOTE: The drawing is symmetric about both X and Y axes. You will create only a quarter of the geometry and then use Mirror command to complete it.
In this step you will learn how to create a rectangle given the width, the height, and the anchor position.
Step Preview:
2.1 Create a 1.25" by 1.25" Rectangle CREATE
Rectangle.
Enter the Width and Height as shown. Press Enter after typing the values to see a preview of the rectangle as shown.
NOTE: Make sure that neither the Anchor to center or the Create Surface icons are selected. Anchor to center sets the base point of the rectangle to its center and draws the rectangle outward from the center. Create Surface creates a surface inside of the rectangle. Surface creation and Surface toolpath are covered in Mill Level 3.

Make sure that when selecting the origin, the visual cue of the cursor changes as shown. Select the OK button to exit the Rectangle command. Use the Fit icon to fit the drawing to the screen.
NOTE: While creating geometry for this tutorial, if you make a mistake, you can undo the last step using the Undo icon.
You can undo as many steps as needed. If you delete or undo a step by mistake, just use the
Redo icon. keyboard.
To delete unwanted geometry, select the geometry first and then press Delete from the

CREATE A CHAMFER
STEP 3: CREATE A CHAMFER In this step you will create the 0.25 X 45 degrees chamfer.
Step Preview:
CREATE Chamfer. Entities. Enter the distance 0.25 in the ribbon bar and ensure the chamfer style is set to 1 Distance and Trim is enabled.
Select the two lines to create the chamfer as shown in Figure: 3.0.1. Figure: 3.0.1

CREATE THE CIRCLE
TUTORIAL #11
NOTE: A preview of the chamfer will appear when you select the second line as shown.
Select the OK button to exit the command.
STEP 4: CREATE THE CIRCLE In this step you will create a circle given the diameter and location. To use Create Circle Center Point you need to know the center point and the radius or the diameter of the circle. You need to know the Cartesian Coordinate System to understand how to create geometry. A Cartesian Coordinate System is a coordinate system that specifies each point uniquely in a plane by a pair of numerical coordinates, which are the signed distances from the point to two fixed perpendicular directed lines, measured in the same unit of length as shown in Figure: 4.0.1.

CREATE POLAR ARCS
TUTORIAL #11
STEP 5: CREATE POLAR ARCS In this step you will create two polar arcs given the radius, the center point, the start angle, and the end angle.
Step Preview:
CREATE Arc. Arc Polar. Enter the values in the Ribbon Bar as shown and press Enter after all values are entered.
[Enter the center point]: Select the Origin.
Select the Apply button to continue with the same command.

The part will appear as shown once complete.
NOTE: If the arc is not generated as shown, from the Ribbon bar, use the Flip button. Enter the values in the Ribbon Bar as shown and press Enter after all values are entered.
NOTE: When entering the values in the Ribbon Bar, first type the radius in the radius field. Then you can use the Tab key on your keyboard to move to the next field. Note that the diameter will be automatically updated once the radius is input.

MIRROR THE GEOMETRY
TUTORIAL #11
STEP 7: MIRROR THE GEOMETRY The Mirror command allows you to complete the geometry. You will mirror the geometry about both X and Y axis.
Step Preview:
XFORM Mirror. [Mirror: select entities to mirror]: From the General Selection toolbar, select the All button.
Make sure that All Entities is enabled to select all entities as shown.

NOTE: When performing a transform function (Xform), Mastercam creates a temporary group from the original, highlighted in red, and a result from the transformed entities, highlighted in magenta. These two colors will stay in effect until you use the Screen, Clear Colors function or perform another transform function. SCREEN Clear Colors. The geometry should look as shown.
NOTE: The lines and the two big circles are broken in 2 and 4 segments due to the mirror command. To be able to select the circle for the circle mill toolpath you will have to join the arcs.

JOIN THE ENTITIES
STEP 8: JOIN THE ENTITIES Join function allows you to join collinear lines, arcs that have the same center and radius, or splines that were originally created as the same entity. EDIT Join entities. [Select entities to join]: Make a window around all entities as shown in Figure: 8.0.1. Figure: 8.0.1
NOTE: To make a window, select a point to the upper left corner and drag the cursor to the opposite corner and click. All the entities inside of the window should be selected (dashed lines in yellow and black). Press Enter to finish the selection.
NOTE: The entities are automatically joined.
