Engineer a Convincing Cover Letter 1. Step 1 Start your letter by summarizing your electrical engineering work until this point. If your primary area of expertise is in the maintenance of electrical equipment or circuitry, you should state that and provide a quantitative account of the length of that experience. 2. Step 2 Write about your experience in a supervisory capacity. As an electrical engineer, you may have had valuable experience in identifying project milestones and coordinating the efforts of other employees and contractors. 3. Step 3 Focus the attention of your target company on your grasp of technologies directly related to electrical engineering. You should write about software applications in which you have training, as well as any design practices, such as computer-assisted circuitry design, with which you have experience. 4. Step 4 Indicate your level of education. Depending on the job description, you may need as much as a Ph.D. in engineering for many positions.
