“Ritmos” es un libro que se hizo con el propósito de exponer al bajista a ritmos un poco más complejos, más sincopados, y como una herramienta vital de nuevo material para lectura a primera vista. Gerardo Colón Ortiz, tiene sobre 25 años de experiencia tocando el bajo y sobre 18 años arreglando y componiendo salsa y jazz latino. Nacido en Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, él recibió un grado de bachillerato en educación musical de la Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico en 1988. Mientras atendía al colegio, él también tocaba con grupos como la banda de jazz de la Asociación de Músicos de Puerto Rico. Después de graduarse, Colón comenzó a enseñar en las escuelas públicas de Puerto Rico, mientras era conocido entre músicos de la salsa y el jazz, tocando con orquestas como; Marvin Santiago, Eriguá, Mickey Cora, Joey Hernández, Cuto Soto, Sammy González y Yambaó. Más tarde se unió a la Banda Guardia Nacional y dirigió la banda de jazz latino. Hoy día vive en el area de Virginia Beach, VA y toca profesionalmente con su grupo “The Latin Jazz Note”. El también imparte clases privadas (bajo, cuatro, teoría e improvisación) y funciona como instructor de bajo del, “Armed Forces School of Music”. También ha escrito artículos para las revistas; The Latin Beat, Downbeat y El Boricua.com. Libros de su autoría; Grooving Low Ultimate Grooves for Bass y Mambos for the Salsa and Latin Jazz horn section.

Gerardo Colón Ortiz has over 25 years experience playing bass and over 18 years arranging and composing salsa and Latin jazz music. Born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, he received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in 1988. While attending college, he could also be found playing in such groups as the Musician's Association of Puerto Rico's Jazz Ensemble. Following graduation, Colón began teaching in the public schools of Puerto Rico, while gaining recognition among local salsa and jazz musicians by playing with such bands as Marvin Santiago, Eriguá, Mickey Cora, Joey Hernández, Cuto Soto, Sammy González and Yambaó. Later on, he joined the National Guard Band and led its Latin jazz ensemble. Currently, he lives in the Virginia Beach VA area and plays professionally with his group The Latín Jazz Note . He also gives private music lessons, (bass, cuatro, theory and improvisation) and functions as the bass instructor at the Armed Forces" School of Music. Also he is a contribuitor writer for Latin Beat , Downbeat and El Boricua.com magazines. Books of his authorship; Grooving Low Ultimate Grooves for Bass and Mambos for the Salsa and Latin Jazz horn section.

3 Prefacio “Ritmos” es un libro que se hizo con el propósito de exponer al bajista a ritmos un poco más complejos, más sincopados, y como una herramienta vital de nuevo material para lectura a primera vista. Los tiempos de cada canción son moderados. Por supuesto que si quiere exponerse a un reto mayor tóquelos a tiempos más rápidos. Los estilos, los “Ritmos” incluyen ; chacha, son, salsa etc...También se incluye un CD, con acompañamiento en un canal y el bajo en el otro para que así pueda tocar con la grabación. Están escritos en notación y tablatura. Espero lo disfruten, Buena suerte y gracias por apoyar a un autor independiente. También quiero agradecer a mi familia, mi esposa Clara y mis hijos Astrid Carolina, Gerald Alex y Anna Paola por todo su apoyo durante las largas horas que me tomó preparar este proyecto. Preface The purpose of “Ritmos” is to expose the bassist to more complex, more syncopated rhythms and as a vital tool of new sight reading material. The tempos in each tune are moderated. Of course if you want to expose yourself to a bigger challenge play them at faster tempos. The styles that “Ritmos” includes are; cha cha, son, salsa etc… Also a CD is included, with accompaniment in one channel and the bass in the other so you can play along with it. All the charts are in notation and tablature. I hope you enjoy it, good luck and thanks for supporting an independent author. I also want to thank my family, my wife Clara and my children Astrid Carolina, Gerald Alex and Anna Paola for all their support during the long hours that it took me to prepare this project. Los ejemplos dados de deben tocar con el CD. Si quiere oír el bajo solamente oiga el canal de la izquierda, el resto de la banda está el el canal de la derecha. También se proveen 10 pistas sin bajo.

-The given examples should be played with the CD. If you like to hear the bass only listen to the left channel, the rest of the band is in the right channel. We also provided 10 tracks minus bass.

-The assigned tempos are preferred but if Los tiempos descritos son los you want to challenge yourself a little preferidos pero si quiere retarse un more play them at faster tempos. poco más tóquelos a tiempos más rápidos.
