Ricoh’s new Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 are advanced black-and-white multifunctional products. Designed for mid volume applications, they are secure document workflow solutions which will meet all customer document needs including printing, copying, colour scanning and fax communication. They succeed Aficio MP 4001 and MP 5001 in Ricoh’s black-and-white A3 MFP range. The new MFPs look strikingly different from their predecessors and offer significantly enhanced functionality. The tilting colour touch-screen display simplifies operation. Ricoh’s new I-Style design has a contemporary feel which works well in the modern office environment. Operational areas - the functional parts of the MFP - such as the operation panel and delivery area are emphasised in grey. Exciting new features which streamline document processes and safeguard document security include the facility to run embedded workflow programs, browse the Internet, preview and print from USB/SD memory cards, add mandatory security information to printed documents and scan documents in full colour, creating digitally signed PDF archive copies. Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 are available in AD and SP configurations. AD models provide copier functionality.
SP models provide copier, printer and colour scanning functionality. AD models can be upgraded to add printing and colour scanning. Other function upgrades include PS3 printing, IPDS printing and fax. AD and SP models are supplied with an ARDF, duplex, 2 x 550 sheet paper trays and a bypass. A modular design means that Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 can be tailored to meet operational needs. The standard paper capacity of 1200 sheets can, for example, be increased to 4400 sheets with the addition of a 2000 sheet paper deck and 1200 sheet LCT. Finishing can be automated by adding a high capacity stapler finisher or an automated booklet finisher. Suitable for use in secure environments, the SP models ship with an integrated 128 GB document server and utilise Ricoh’s Data Overwrite Security and HDD Encryption solutions to safeguard document security. The new models will undergo Common Criteria Certification testing and are designed to meet IEEE2600.1, the highest level of common criteria certification. Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 succeed Aficio MP 4001 and MP 5001 in Ricoh’s black-and-white A3 MFP range. Incorporating Ricoh’s new two-tone I-Style design, they look strikingly different from their predecessors. Striking looks are matched with stunning performance. Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 incorporate new features and functionality which add value and set them apart from the competition. New features which streamline document processes and safeguard document security include the ability to customise the home screen, browse the Internet, preview and print from USB/SD memory cards, add mandatory security information to printed documents and scan documents in full colour to create digitally signed PDF documents. Colour Scanning
I-Style Design
SP models, and AD models configured with the printer/ scanner option, scan in full colour. Colour scanning was not an option for basic versions of Aficio MP 4001 and MP 5001. Users can easily scan documents in high resolution colour and forward them directly to email, save them to the integral document server or to another network location. One-Click Drivers The functionality of RPCS, Ricoh’s easy-to-use singleclick icon-based print driver, popular with users, has been incorporated into the standard PCL driver of SP models. The PCL driver and optional PostScript driver feature graphic icons which allow single click selection of complex settings such as duplex printing, booklet pagination, stapling and folding. Scheduled Print
Ricoh’s I-Style design concept is both eye-catching and effective. A tilting colour touch-screen display - the centre piece of the MFP - simplifies operation. The white and grey colour scheme has a contemporary look which works well in the modern office environment. Operational areas such as the operation panel and delivery area are emphasised in grey. 10
The Scheduled Print feature enables users to specify when documents will be printed. Using this feature, it is possible to schedule long print jobs - invoices, statements, reports etc - to run overnight, when they are less likely to inconvenience other users. The time is specified within the print driver and can be amended using the operation panel or WebImageMonitor.
Layout and Booklet Printing with Mac OS
Accessibility
Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 support booklet printing with layout settings such as 2 in 1 and 4 in 1. Using this feature multiple pages are automatically tiled and paginated by the MFP and printed ‘N-up’ in booklet format. Using this feature it’s possible to save paper by presenting large documents such as multislide PowerPoint presentations in a compact booklet format. For the first time, this feature is supported in Mac 0S as well as Windows environments.
MFP Web Browser (option)
Envelope Feeding The top paper tray has been designed to simplify printing onto envelopes. The tray can be adjusted by the user to feed envelopes. Printing directly onto envelopes eliminates the need to print and attach labels and improves the effectiveness of postal communication by enabling the user to print logos and other marketing messages onto the envelope. Letterhead Printing The letterhead printing feature synchronises the simplex and duplex paper paths of Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 so that a single tray of pre-printed letterhead paper can be used for both simplex and duplex pages. Whether printing single or double sided, Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 will leave a border at the top of the first page to avoid printing on the letterhead.
Using the optional MFP Web Browser*, users can browse external websites and print out the displayed page directly from the operational panel of the MFP. Webpage addresses can be registered as bookmark icons on home screen. Using this feature, users can print Google maps, e-tickets and coupons without needing to access a PC/Mac. It should be noted that this feature does have some limitations. Because of the way they are compiled, some web pages cannot be displayed within the web browser and web pages consisting of multiple frames cannot be printed. Unfortunately it is not possible to ascertain in advance which web pages are supported and which are not. *Requires MFP Browser Option, HDD and Printer or Printer/ Scanner option
Customisable Home Screen The home screen of the MFP can be customised. A corporate logo can be inserted at the upper right corner of the screen and the desktop customised to include preferred function icons. Individual users can also create their own personal home screens* to include a programme shortcut which automates frequently used settings. *In combination with User Authentication

Banner Page Print
The USB/SD card reader, provided as a standard feature, is particularly useful in walk up environments such as schools, colleges and libraries where it enables users to print PDF documents and JPEG / TIFF images without needing to open them first on a PC. JPEG files can be previewed in colour on the MFPs operation panel.
Using the new Banner Page print feature, a job sheet is printed at the start of the print job identifying the originator. This feature makes it easier to identify work in a busy environment, reducing the risk of work being mislaid or duplicated. The Banner Page includes the originators username, the date and time of printing, the originating computers hostname and a job name.
Governance Quota Scheduling Quota Setting allows the administrator to limit the output of individual users and user groups. By setting page count and user count limits, the administrator is able to control the print environment and reduce cost. A new Scheduling feature enables the administrator to set the point at which individual users and group print quotas are reset.
Administration Preference Settings Import / Export Users can output preference settings such as System Settings, Application Settings and program shortcuts from Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 to an SD card or a local folder on a client PC using WebImageMonitor. The settings can then be applied to other supported Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 MFPs. This feature simplifies setup as the administrator can quickly apply the same settings to multiple devices. Auto Job Promotion This feature reduces downtime associated with paper size mismatch and other print errors. With Auto Job Promotion enabled, Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 will promote jobs that can be executed immediately over jobs that would otherwise cause the print queue to stall. Skipped jobs can be reprinted from the operational panel or Web Image Monitor once the error has been resolved. AZERTY and QWERTZ Keyboard The default soft keyboard setting for Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 is QWERTY (English layout). French speaking customers can easily switch the default soft keyboard settings to AZERTY (French layout) and German speaking customers can easily switch the default soft keyboard settings to QWERTZ (German layout). External USB Keyboard Support A Windows OS compatible external USB keyboard can be attached and used in place of the soft keyboard. The external USB keyboard connects to the USB port on the operation panel or the USB port on the back of the controller board. This feature will prove useful to customers using Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 to scan and index documents for EDM.

Eco-Information Screen Mandatory Security Information To encourage eco-friendly printing, an eco-information screen can be displayed as a pop-up on the operation panel. The pop-up advises the total number of pages printed by a user and shows any reduction made in paper consumption through use of duplex and N-up printing. The pop-up has a free type area for a corporate environmental message.
The Mandatory Security Information feature enforces document security by automatically appending security information to every document produced. The security information added to documents includes the name or user ID of the originator, the date and time the job was printed, the IP address of originating computer and the serial number of the MFP on which the job was printed.
Remote Fax Using the Remote Fax function, users can send or receive fax documents via an Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 which is not configured with a fax option by sharing the fax option attached to another Afico MFP on the same network. This feature saves money by reducing the initial investment for fax options and eliminating the running costs of maintaining multiple fax lines.

Security
To reduce the risk that inbound fax messages are left sitting in a catch tray where they may be read by unauthorised personnel or inadvertently picked up along with other documents, the administrator can set a time schedule for fax output. Inbound fax messages received overnight or at the weekend can be held in memory and automatically printed at a predetermined time.

Unauthorised Copy Control
Suitable for use in secure environments, SP models are equipped with Data Overwrite Security and HDD Encryption as standard. AD and SP models will undergo Common Criteria Certification testing (the International Security standard for IT systems and software). Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 are designed to meet the IEEE2600.1 standard, the highest level of common criteria certification.
This feature enhances document security by preventing unauthorised copying of confidential documents. A text pattern, such as ‘No Copying’, is embedded as a watermark on the original document. The watermark is repeated on subsequent copies making them difficult to read. Ricoh MFPs equipped with the Copy Data Security option recognise the watermark and grey out the copy. Additional User Codes
Data Overwrite Security overwrites temporary data held on the MFPs hard drive with random data. Data can be overwritten up to nine times to ensure that the original data cannot be recovered. This method of overwrite is the USA Department of Defence standard. HDD Encryption
To answer the needs of large organisations, the number of unique user codes has been increased from 500 to 1000.

Bates Numbering
PDF/A and Digitally Signed PDF
Bates numbering is used in the legal, medical and financial markets to place identifying numbers on documents as they are scanned or processed. Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 enables Bates numbering to be applied as a stamp by selecting it in the copier/ document server menu. The feature saves time by automating the numbering process.
PDF/A is a file format and an ISO standard for the longterm archiving of electronic documents. The format locks the document to maintain its originality and records within the document a ‘Device Certificate’ which identifies the scanning device. Digitally signed PDFs are a regulatory standard for electronic invoicing and a preferred compliance standard for electronic document management. Enhanced Encryption Level
Another new feature enables the user to select more secure encryption algorithms when encrypting documents saved to PDF. Government and industry compliance regulations may require the customer to adopt one or other enhanced encryption level. The supported algorithms include AES256bit (used by the US government, NESSIE in EU and CRYPTREC in Japan) and SHA-2 (used by the US National Security Agency).

Function Configuration Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 SP models are supplied as network ready black-and-white printers/copiers and colour scanners. The print controller features the new one-click icon-based PCL driver. There is a USB/SD card reader and PDF Direct printing is a standard feature. A 128GB hard drive provides document server functionality. Data Overwrite Security and HDD Encryption are standard security features. Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 AD models are supplied as black-and-white copiers. There is a full upgrade path from the standard configuration to SP configurations which allows the machines to be configured for printing and / or printing and scanning. The document server is also available as a function upgrade option. Additional function upgrade options include PostScript printing, IPDS (host) printing, MFP Browser and Fax. In 2010, Ricoh sold more than 14,000 mid volume black-and-white machines (A3, 40 to 59 ppm) to customers in Western Europe, achieving a market share of 23.2%. Fuji-Xerox sold just over 13,000 machines, achieving a market share of 21.4% and Kyocera sold just under 10,000 machines achieving a market share of 16.1%%. No other manufacturer managed to achieve more than a 15% share of the market. Versatile Multifunctional Systems Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 are mid range MFPs. The A3 engines deliver immaculate black-and-white output at speed whilst providing the facility to scan hardcopy documents in colour and communicate via fax. Both machines are highly productive. Aficio MP 4002 can produce 2400 A4 prints an hour whilst Aficio MP 5002 can produce 3000 A4 print an hour. Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 are available in AD and SP configurations. AD models provide copier functionality. SP models provide copier, printer and colour scanning functionality. AD models can be upgraded to add printing and colour scanning. Other function upgrades include PS3 printing, IPDS printing and fax. AD and SP models are supplied with an ARDF, duplex, 2 x 550 sheet paper trays and a bypass.
AD and SP models are equipped with a high capacity 100 sheet ARDF. This unit can be used to feed single and double sided originals for scanning and copying. Originals are scanned at a speed of 61 ipm mono / 31 ipm colour. ‘Scan once copy many’ digital technology means that originals are scanned once and returned to the operator with copies reproduced from memory. Full Speed Duplex The new models are equipped with a full speed duplex which automatically cycles paper to produce smartly presented double sided output without compromising productivity. The interleaving design means that there is no restriction on the number of duplex copies and prints that can be made. The duplex unit is an integral part of the MFP design and takes up very little space. 2 x 550 Sheet Paper Trays
The modular design means that Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 can be tailored to meet operational needs. The standard paper capacity of 1200 sheets can be increased to 4400 sheets with the addition of a 2000 sheet paper deck and 1200 sheet LCT. Finishing can be automated by adding a high capacity stapler finisher or an automated booklet finisher.
Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 are equipped with two high-capacity paper trays. The trays can be adjusted to feed paper formats from A5 to A3. With two paper trays, it is easy to hold different paper formats online. The new models are able to automatically select the right size paper and switch between paper trays in the event that paper needs replenishment.
Automatic Document Feed Active 100 Sheet Bypass The integral 100 sheet bypass can be used to feed stacks of non-standard media including card stock of up to 220 gsm. Use of the bypass saves time by reducing the need to remove and replace media held in standard trays when printing onto non standard media. Envelope Feeding The top paper tray has been designed to simplify printing onto envelopes. The tray can be adjusted 21
by the user to feed envelopes. Printing directly onto envelopes eliminates the need to print and attach labels and improves the effectiveness of postal communication by enabling the user to print logos and other marketing messages onto the envelope. Letterhead Printing The letterhead printing feature synchronises the simplex and duplex paper paths of Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 so that a single tray of pre-printed letterhead paper can be used for both simplex and duplex pages. The Scheduled Print feature enables users to specify a time at which documents will be printed. Colour Touch-Screen Panel Although the new machines look radically different from older Ricoh MFPs, they feature the same colour touch-screen panel. The common interface makes these machines ideal for a mixed fleet installation where users will find themselves instantly familiar with Ricoh’s simple intuitive interface. The colour operation panel is brightly lit and has intuitive menu systems that make operation simpler than that of most competitor machines. In addition, the colourful operation panel has advanced accessibility features which make it easier for visually impaired and / or wheelchair bound operatives to operate the machine. Intuitive Menu
Ricoh’s I-Style design concept is both eye-catching and effective. A tilting colour touch-screen display - the centre piece of the MFP - simplifies operation. The white and grey colour scheme has a contemporary look which works well in the modern office environment. Operational areas such as the operation panel and delivery area are emphasised in grey.
The menu system is intuitive and easy to use. Even seemingly complex tasks like producing booklets and magazines are made easy with press button selection. A button on the right of the control panel switches the colour display to a simplified setting allowing users with visual impairment use the machine more easily.

Customisable Home Screen

The home screen of the MFP can be customised. A corporate logo can be inserted at the upper right corner of the screen and the desktop customised to include preferred function icons. Individual users can also create their own personal home screens* to include a programme shortcut which automates a frequently used operation.
This new feature enables users to screen out colours when scanning. This enables users to remove information such as handwritten notes from the document before storage or reproduction. As well as cleaning up the appearance of documents this feature will enhance OCR capability improving the effectiveness of electronic document management systems.

WS Scanner WS Scanner is a new feature compatible with the WSD (Web Services for Devices) protocol introduced with Windows Vista and continued with Windows 7. The feature allows users to pre-configure scan settings at their PC and scan documents to PC using the specified settings without having to change scanned parameters at the MFP. High Compression PDF
MFP Web Browser (option) Using the optional MFP Web Browser*, users can browse external websites and print out the displayed page directly from the operational panel of the MFP. Webpage addresses can be registered as bookmark icons on home screen. Using this feature, users can print Google maps, e- tickets and coupons without needing to access a PC/Mac. This feature does have some limitations. Because of the way they are compiled, some web pages cannot be displayed within the web browser and web pages consisting of multiple frames cannot be printed. Unfortunately it is not possible to ascertain in advance which web pages are supported and which are not.
Conventional scanners have difficulty maintaining a balance between file size and image quality. The Aficio range uses High Compression PDF for single and multipage documents with the optimum file size determined by the scanner depending upon the ratio of image to text. Generating compressed PDF files reduces network traffic, particularly if printed using PDF Direct Print. Encrypted PDF Transmission

PDF documents scanned to email or saved to the document server or to another network location can be encrypted and password protected to ensure they are read only by the intended recipient. Colour Scanning

SP models, and AD models configured with the printer/ scanner option, scan in colour. Colour scanning was not an option for basic models of Aficio MP 4001 and MP 5001. Users can easily scan documents in high resolution colour and forward them directly to email, save them to the integral document server or to another network location.
SP models are equipped with a 128GB document server. The document server can archive up to 9,000 pages or 3,000 documents for print on demand convenience. Documents can be scanned directly to the document server and received by fax, email or IP transfer. Regularly printed materials such as expense sheets can be saved and printed on demand, eliminating the need to hold stock of pre-printed documents.

Search and Preview
The functionality of RPCS, Ricoh’s easy-to-use singleclick icon-based print driver, popular with users, has been incorporated into the standard PCL driver of SP models. The PCL driver and optional PostScript driver feature graphic icons which allow single click selection of complex settings such as duplex printing, booklet pagination, stapling and folding. Documents in the document server can be searched by file name or by thumbnail. The thumbnail feature can also be used to preview and confirm the document’s content. Previewing scanned documents before transmission allows users to check the appearance of scanned data. Users can check the file name, file size, original paper size, colour mode, scanning direction and image quality.
Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 support booklet printing with layout settings such as 2 in 1 and 4 in 1. Using this feature multiple pages are automatically tiled and paginated by the MFP and printed ‘N-up’ in booklet format. Using this feature it is possible to save paper by presenting large documents, such as multi-slide PowerPoint presentations, in a compact booklet format. For the first time, this feature is supported in Mac 0S as well as Windows environments. Letterhead Printing
LDAP Addressing With LDAP support (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), uses are able to select email and fax addresses from the control panel of the MFP. Fax numbers and email addresses are updated automatically from LDAP servers. Users can search for fax numbers at the MFP control panel. Addresses can be searched by name, email address, number, company and department name.

The modular design extends to functionality were a broad range of function upgrades are available to tailor Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 to document workflow and security needs. Function upgrades include the option to handle multiple fax lines, print directly from mainframe computers and integrate the MFP into the workflow using intelligent embedded solutions such as Streamline NX.
With the IP-Fax feature, users can send faxes to, or receive faxes from, any IP-Fax machine connected to the same network using TCP/IP protocol. Senders use the IP address to specify the destination machine, or the alias number when using the gatekeeper. User can also send faxes to the G3 fax machines connected to PSTN via the VoIP gateways. No email server is required as IP-Fax communicates directly with destination fax machines connected to the same network. The transmission speed is faster than using G3. LAN Fax
Multi-line Fax Option With the addition of the fax option, the new models become communication hubs, capable of scanning a document in less than a second and transmit it in just two seconds using JBIG compression. With the addition of the G3 option, Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 will handle three fax lines simultaneously. Adding fax functionality can help when presenting total cost of ownership savings since the page cost is much less that than of a stand-alone fax machine. Internet Fax With the addition of the fax option, Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 can be used as internet faxes. Faxes can be transmitted to, and received from, other internet faxes using T.37 internet protocols for reduced transmission cost and faster transmission speeds.

The LAN Fax feature allows users to transmit fax messages directly from PC without need to print out and re-scan, reducing the number of steps taken to send a fax and increasing desktop convenience. Remote Fax Using the Remote Fax function, users can send or receive fax documents via an Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 which is not configured with a fax option by sharing the fax option attached to another Afico MFP on the same network. This feature saves money by reducing the initial investment for fax options and eliminating the running costs of maintaining multiple fax lines. Network Ready SP versions of the product can connect directly to wired network for shared use as a network printer/scanner. Print from USB/SD The USB/SD card reader, provided as a standard feature, is particularly useful in walk up environments such as schools, colleges and libraries where it enables users to print PDF documents and JPEG / TIFF images without needing to open them first on a PC. JPEG files can be previewed in colour on the MFPs operation panel.
A genuine IPDS option, unique to Ricoh, enables Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 to print host data such as invoices and statements directly from IBM AS400 / iSeries mainframe systems. With this option the new machines can be used to replace dedicated line printers as well as more conventional imaging devices such as standalone printers, copiers, faxes and scanners.
Mail to Print
IPDS (Intelligent Print Data Stream) is a page description language generated by mainframe computer systems. Other printers handle IPDS data streams by converting them to a language which the printer understands. The conversion process can lead to errors and may slow the print process. Ricoh is the only manufacturer currently able to provide a genuine IPDS option.
Mail to Print is a new feature that enables users to send an e-mail with attached data directly to a postscript enabled MFP for printing. This feature is likely to prove useful in environments where use is made of handheld PDAs. Using Mail to Print, messages and attachments received on a PDA can be printed directly to the Aficio MFP without need to open them on a PC and print via conventional means.
The genuine IPDS option enables bi-directional communication with the mainframe computer system. The native page description language is managed at page level for error free production at full engine speed. Competitor devices, which use filters to convert data streams, slow significantly when printing from mainframe computer systems and are only able to monitor print at job level.
PDF Direct Print
Ricoh’s genuine IPDS option supports intelligent mail barcoding (IMB), the latest barcode system developed by the US Postal Service. The barcode, which is generated by the main frame computer, can be printed onto address labels, direct mail pieces and envelopes. Other print devices either do not support IMB or require additional software.
PDF Direct Print enables PDF documents to be printed directly to a postscript enabled MFP. Although PDF files are relatively small, when processed they become larger and can place unnecessary load on the network. A 325 kB PDF file can, for example, become a 2.18 MB print file when printed using a standard Windows driver. Using PDF Direct Print documents are processed by the MFP rather than the PC, reducing network traffic and

Intelligent Workflow Solutions SP models are equipped with a VM card. The VM card can be used to run intelligent embedded software applications which can be used to automate, streamline and govern the document workflow. The Streamline NX option, for example, provides the means to authenticate users, restrict access, record usage and hold print securely until released. Mandatory Security Information The Mandatory Security Information feature enforces document security by automatically appending security information to every document produced. The security information added to documents includes the name or user ID of the originator, the date and time the job was printed, the IP address of originating computer and the serial number of the MFP on which the job was printed.
Banner Page Print Using the new Banner Page print feature, a job sheet is printed at the start of the print job identifying the originator. This feature makes it easier to identify work in a busy environment, reducing the risk of work being mislaid or duplicated. The Banner Page includes the originators username, the date and time of printing, the originating computers hostname and a job name. IEEE2600.1 Compliant
Quota Setting Quota Setting allows the administrator to limit the output of individual users and user groups. By setting page count and user count limits, the administrator is able to control the print environment and reduce cost. Fax output is not restricted. A new Scheduling feature enables the administrator to set the point at which individual users and group print quotas are reset. 28
Suitable for use in secure environments, SP models are equipped with Data Overwrite Security and HDD Encryption as standard. AD and SP models will undergo Common Criteria Certification testing (the International Security standard for IT systems and software). Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 are designed to meet the IEEE2600.1 standard, the highest level of common criteria certification.
Data Overwrite Security and HDD Encryption
PDF/A and Digitally Signed PDF
Data Overwrite Security overwrites temporary data held on the MFPs hard drive with random data. Data can be overwritten up to nine times to ensure that the original data cannot be recovered. This method of overwrite is the USA Department of Defence standard. HDD Encryption protects information by encrypting the address book, authentication information and stored documents.
PDF/A is a file format and an ISO standard for the longterm archiving of electronic documents. The format locks the document to maintain its originality and records within the document a ‘Device Certificate’ which identifies the scanning device. Digitally signed PDFs are a regulatory standard for electronic invoicing and a preferred compliance standard for electronic document management.
Output Switch Timer for Fax To reduce the risk that inbound fax messages are left sitting in a catch tray where they may be read by unauthorised personnel or inadvertently picked up along with other documents, the administrator can set a time schedule for fax output. Inbound fax messages received overnight or at the weekend can be held in memory and automatically printed at a predetermined time. Eco-Information Screen
Enhanced Encryption Level Another new feature enables the user to select more secure encryption algorithms when encrypting documents saved to PDF. Government and industry compliance regulations may require the customer to adopt one or other enhanced encryption level. The supported algorithms include AES256bit (used by the US government, NESSIE in EU and CRYPTREC in Japan) and SHA-2 (used by the US National Security Agency).
To encourage eco-friendly printing, an eco-information screen can be displayed as a pop-up on the operation panel. The pop-up advises the total number of pages printed by a user and shows any reduction made in paper consumption through use of duplex and N-up printing. The pop-up has a free type area for a corporate environmental message. Bates Numbering Unauthorised Copy Control This feature enhances document security by preventing unauthorised copying of confidential documents. A text pattern, such as ‘No Copying’. is embedded as a watermark on the original document. The watermark is repeated on subsequent copies making them difficult to read. Ricoh MFPs equipped with the Copy Data Security option recognise the watermark and grey out the copy.
Bates numbering is used in the legal, medical and financial markets to place identifying numbers on documents as they are scanned or processed. Aficio MP 4002 and MP 5002 enable Bates numbering to be applied as a stamp by selecting it in the copier/ document server menu. The feature saves time by automating the numbering process
